Ok, now I remember. I should have figured that out for myself. Duh. I read on a thread somewhere that Dmj has her La iris under a deciduous tree because they really only need full sun in the winter when they are in their growth spurt. That's a really interesting idea. That way they have shade in the summer and don't get stressed out by the heat. I'm going to try that with some of my treasures from the RU. I might take the irises out of the pond that haven't bloomed too. Hmmm, lots of news ideas blooming in my head.:)
RU food!!!
Sheila, thanks for the pictures. They are beautiful and will really add a lot of color to my yard. How tall do they get?
The yellow about 4 foot blades, but the stems go wild if not staked. The other one around 2 1/2 to 3 foot.
Who made the tropical macaroons? They were really really addicting!! May I have the recipe?
~ Marylyn
I think it was Ampy.
Josephine.
Me too....yummy....Jo
It was Ampy, she was a real baking fiend! Actually, that would be a baking friend, since she graciously shared with all of us, lo.
Little Ampy baked those Macaroons? ...my goodness that child can teach us oldies a lot. I think she is just precious!
Sylvia
Yes she is, isn't she?
Lol, I agree, I love her. Wonder how she feels about being called "little Ampy"? She and Kim were easlity the youngest members there, I hope all us "old folks" didn't scare them away, lol.
You didn't scare me away! I'm still enjoying the days I can be called young. Soon I'll be 30 and starting down that slippery slope....lol. You guys were great!! :)
Kim
Now now Blue_eyes, if you at 30 will be headed down the slippery slope, Where does that put me at almost 51? ROTFLOL
Looking forward to your answer. :o)
Blessings,
Sandy ^8^
Sandy...I'm not Kim....but does "Over the hill" ring a bell?
Jo./..one who has been there for years now.
Lol at Sandy and Jo! Hmmm....I look at it this way...you're only as old as you feel. Of course...that means somedays I feel 40... Grad school is adding years to my life!
:) Kim
Jo I understand, But from the way kim said it I am almost at the bottom of the hill. where will that put me in just a few more years?? LOL
Can't help but tease. I am younger than dirt...
Sandy....with your sense of humor you'll never grow old! Jo
How does that song go? "I don't wanna grow up,...." Me neither! And if you try to make me, I'll hold my breath!
:-)
Well at 59, I will soon be at the top of the second hill! LOL!
Do we have to discuss age? I dont want to go there...lol
Ok Sylvia, fess up, what are you about 53?
Okay, Sheila, that explains why I am so tired! Climbing that second hill can wear you out! lol I am ready to coast for a while, just hope the bumps in the road will be small ones.
Patricia
God willing he will let me climb this last year. My body is giving out on me. I am ready for a coast too.
Sheila-
I don't believe for one second that you are 59!
I am not giving my age anymore! But ... anyone saw me limping at the RU can pretty well tell I aint no spring chicken... at this point I will always be fortynine. ;)
Sylvia
lol Sylvia, I tried the forty-nine thing too. I gave it up!
Pat I cant ... I am still dating! LOL
Oh, Sylvia, I wouldn't have the energy! You go, girl!
Hi Trish! Thanks for the doubt, but I am pushing that last hill as I said. They say 60 is the last one that means anything, after that I guess we are just tickled to still be getting older! LOL!
Dating?? That tells me you are a lot younger than I am Sylvia!! I can't imagine starting that again!
I'm 52 and whether I feel it or not depends on what I'm doing. If I'm at work I feel atleast 52, usually older than that. If I'm home working in my yard as I did today I feel atleast 10 years younger.:)
Marylee when I saw you for the first time, I said you were a lot younger than I thought ... the plaitnum hair mislead me in your pics. Marylee you are a baby! When I was 52 I was hot! LOL If I could start over at any age it would be forty or fifty. Its the prime time of a woman's life ... its when you become aware of self and all its glories .... you start breaking down at 62 ... this is when you get stronger ... you start blowing off all those different aches and pains you get, because you will probaly have a different one tommorrow ... in a different location ... you call the doctor ... tell him you dont want to hear anything about Age...just give me something to fix it!
Sylvia, lol I really enjoy you! I agree with you about wanting to be 40 again, but only if I could keep the "wisdom" I have accumulated. Whether it's really wisdom or not, time will tell, but I think I've learn a few things. "Wisdom" is a relative term and rarely recognized face to face.
I'm going to stick with that old tried and true cliche--only my hairdresser knows for sure.
;)
Debbie
Sorry to be replying to this so belatedly, but I really did shoehorn the RU into one of the most hectic times of the year at my job. I'm glad people liked the Tropical Macaroons-they go over well at my job abd they're super easy to make. Macaroons are always the cookies we make when we're in a rush and are short on the cookie count. I use the Silver Palate recipe and mix in some chopped up dried tropical fruit (the stuff in those was the mix in the bulk bins at H-E-B...pineapple, banana, mango, papaya, I think.) You can dice it small with your knife or use your food processor, if it's strong enough (we've burned out the motor on food processors doing similar things). Here's the base recipe:
Silver Palate Macaroons
Flour 1/3 cup
Coconut 2 1/2 cups
(Sweetened, shredded)
Salt 1/8 tsp.
Condensed Milk 2/3 cup
(Sweetened)
Vanilla 1 tsp
Oven @ 350 degrees
Mix coconut, flour, and salt together. Add condensed milk and vanilla. Mix together. Drop onto pans lined with greased parchment. Bake for 15-20 minutes.
*If desired, mix in mini chips or chopped dried fruit (apricots, pineapple, mixed tropical fruit), or drizzle or dip in melted dark chocolate.
Thank you, Amy!!!
Ah, no problem, sorry it's so tardy in coming!
Amy, you didn't say how long to bake.
Thank you for the recipe, they are delecious.
Josephine.
I am sorry Amy, you did say how long, I don't know what I was thinking.
Josephine.
