Hi there!! Where is everyone? I'm sure you will all be here before I finish typing!!
I had a busy day running around yesterday. I may need the 2x4....trying to get my sister to agree on what to do with a piece of property my parents left in all three of our names. It's 111 acres of vacant land. My mother died 18 years ago. I keep paying the taxes on it, /DS would never let me buy the whole piece so I could use it, but she refuses to buy out DB and me either although she herself is very wealthy. She also refuses to sell it on the open market and has said she will prevent my doing so. Finally got an attorney and am having to force her to either sign SOMETHING or a judge will order it auctioned off. As DB said, the real estate market is good right now, we're all getting older, and for pete's sake she's had 18 years to decide! I think she just wants to keep me under her thumb.

Okay, that was my vent du jour!

9kitty~Congratulations on getting your wheels back! The dentist thing was crazy! I can't believe how much time I spend waiting there, but never as bad as that. LOL about the pee fest - they must smell things from outside that make them need to mark their territory. I know it's not really funny, it's a pain, but the way you wrote it was funny

Oz~no offense but can't imagine a deaf husband being any different than a hearing one, marriage wise. I've never heard of one that hears what the DW is saying anyway. Probably would just mean close captioning for the favorite tv shows...only difference. Sort of like teenagers....they don't hear anything you say either.

defoecat~hope you get to chill out today, after the day with DM! LOL at the Miss boots car rides. I have a big longhair cat, DInah, who caterwauls endlessly, and loudly, so it makes your ears hurt. She prefers to ride on the dashboard directly in front of the steering wheel! Add to that allergies and my sneezing continuously, and you've got one fun carnval ride to the vets!

Ann~yes the hospital sounds very different there. Here you'd probably have drive through surgery. So it seems alarming that he's still in, I have to remind myself it doesn't mean bad news, it's just Canada! The rest of your schedule just makes my head spin!! Still prayers for DHs speedy and complete recovery.

Elaine~too many posts go missing these days!

Mc Cool~wow that's a lot of hair to take care of!! You must keep it up? I'd have it full of paint, spaghetti sauce, toothpaste whatever...

sarv~oh, go with meezer and whover to someplace warm!! LOLOL at the"how come I have to sit home envy"!! And the DH not figuring out you're not speaking to him!! I'm sure my DH would think I was being extra special NICE if I were not speaking to him...nope, wouldn't catch on either.

m5~reading everyone's kid troubles with trepidation. These years really age you. I guess so far I'm fortunate, but I'm probably just like sarv's mother, not quite afraid of my shadow, but such a worrier. I guess that's why God made pets! All my smiles seem to come from the kitties, dogs, horses....don't have to worry about their grades, getting jobs, marriages...just enjoy them. Could you imagine if Sammi was a kid and you had to get him to school every day! I bet you'd be getting calls from the principal's office!! LOL just imagining it!

Mary~Oh AmandaPanda with her little chirping! What a sweetie! I just love her and here I am 3000 miles away.
Glad the lambing is quieting down and that the little lamb seems to be making it. The barfy camping trip sounds especially hideous...glad I never had one of those. I used to love camping, by the time I had 3 kids was too hard to enjoy anything about it....My friend who boards the baby horse called last night and said Tully (baby) now bows on command!! She said 4 times she told her, and Tully bowed, the fifth time she bowed as asked, then lay down and there was no budging her!! Lisa was laughing so hard describing it. I can't wait until it's warm enough to really get playing with them. So get out riding and post pictures!! I need inspiration! (sorry for putting pressure on)

suzieq~hooray for you and your new computer. We have Macs too, DH got sick of all the virus problems. I don't do any of the setup or maintenance, just ask DH...he's the whiz.

lauri~hi there!

Molly~yup, you win the prize for most new toys and plants!!

Woofens~hope the plague has spared you and DH and that everyone else is over it.

Robert~WOw I can't wait to see what you do with the rocks.

Hi to whomever I missed, I will hopefully get back later!!

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

Morning everyone - cold, gray, gloomy here today - do I sound like a broken record?

DR- I hopped on the scale (what a downer thing to do in the morning...) but will record the poundage on my private calendar - I am going to increase my cardio at the workout joint....I'd post the weight on here, except I don't want any spewing on computer monitors...so sorry - you'll just have to guess.

VI - hosptials here have open visiting hours - go when you want. Much nicer than the regimented ones in my opinion. Hospitals fascinate me - I'd love to work in one and have thought about volunteering to be one of the gofers, but all my fun stuff gets in the way! I am too happy just puttering around... Plus I am at the hospital often enough with my MIL - speaking of which, she called and I need to take her to the heart doc on Mon - that doc is always in a snit. I was on a morphine drip and the push button as needed when I had my appendix out- slept the best I had in my life!!

9kit- ohh hellebores. I have a few, but they sure don't blossom for me. I keep waiting for some reseeding, but I suppose you have to have blossoms first!! This will be their third year in, so I'm hoping that maybe this year will be the year!! I try always make my dentist appt the first one of the day - then I don't run into the 'waiting game' - do the same with my docs. (his nurse told me that one!!)

McC - that's one long mane of hair- have you ever worn it short? Turn around and have DH snap a couple - I showed my mug, now it's your turn...

Well, I'm off to find where my computer is - love that you can track things!!

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Well, I am dressed and ready to head out the door. Hope that we don't encounter any delays, bad attitudes or such.

Will not comment on anything now, but when I return.

It is colder here today, and overcast. So out into the gloom I go.

Hurray ... I'm actually here before noon!!!

I know y'all don't want to hear it, but it's going to be another *gorgeous* day. The sun's out and it's already 62 degrees.

LW ~ sure hope that neck gets better soon. Hate to have a stiff neck.

DMC~ I have one of those ... and I *know* she is going to be a pain one day. I have told my DM if she wants me to have anything ... she'd better have it in writing or give it to me now. I so hate stuff like that. Sure feel for you.

Sarv~, isn't that just the neatest thing to be able to track packages like that? I *love* it! LOL

Maria~ hope you are feeling better today. Wish I were closer and could make you a pot of soup or something.
{{{ hugs }}}

Defoe ~, good luck this morning and happy travels!

Am waving at everyone else. I slipped in here before I fed the baby. That's no fair and she's fussing. Gotta go.
~~~ ... Elaine
Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)
I made a list last night of things I wanted to get done today. I thought I might be more likely to meet my goals if I had a list to keep me on track.
Now, where is that list???????
Oh yes, Jeremy will work on the pumphouse soffits and I will rake the wood debris from the rest of the veggie garden area. We want to get some more seeds planted while it's still cool enough.
It's a little over cast today which will be great for sweat work. So I better get to it then!!!!
Good morning everyone,
Slept in a bit this morning, but woke earlier with a bit of a headache. Seems better after breakfast.
dmc - do you mean that YOU have been paying the taxes on that land all these year without help from your siblings? If so, do you have the records? That should entitle you to a larger share if the property is sold. If she refuses to sell, can it be divided? Where is is it located? Seems to me that finding a lawyer is the thing to do. Where does DB stand on this issue?
Susan - glad to hear you are able to drive again. Independence!
Bummer on the dentist. If they are going to run that late, they should advise you of a delay and give you an option of staying, leaving and coming back in, say 40 minutes, or rebooking. I once, years ago, left a Dr. for just such a reason and told them why! (Today, family Drs are in such short supply that I probably couldn't do that).
In regard to husbands not being able to hear, I was LOL. Mine can't hear either. And he complains about hearing a few other places, but I notice he's always got the volume level on the kitchen TV turned down really low. I like it nice and loud so the hum of the fridge or banging of pots doesn't obscure the sound.
In regard to hospitals, I think it varies by surgery and by doctor. patient a bit. New mothers are barely in over night if that. A friend's wife was out in three days last week after a hysterectomy. In DH's case, it's pretty major abdominal surgery and he'll have a catheter for about 3 weeks. I don't think they'll release him until he's well educated on looking after it. But certainly, a great many procedures are done on day surgery basis these days.
sarv - I wondered whether we were going to have to report our weigh-in weights. I've also weighed myself, but didn't write down what it was yesterday. I've also found that with my digital scales which weigh in tenths of a pound, that certain bodily functions can make close to a pound's difference. So DAILY weigh-ins can sometimes be a bit mis-leading unless all the conditions are equal - hard to do.
Anyway, I'll write down what it said today.
The visiting hours in the hospital in general are a bit more open, I think than in the "Surgical Constant Care Unit".
But get this - this is what the sheet actually says:
Quoting:
Visiting hours are from 11:30 A.M. to 8:30 P.M. daily , exception for the following rest periods:
11:30 A.M. to 2:00 P.M.
4:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M.
7:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.
Now doesn't that say exactly OPPOSITE to what it should be saying?
Am trying to track down who is responsible for the lousy English! (This hospital is in the far west end of the city; so French shouldn't be a factor. If it were the Ottawa General or Monfort, I would think that it had been written by someone whose first language was French.
I've also been told by friends who frequent hospitals more often than I do that the visiting hours rules are generally ignored or only guidelines.
defoe - good luck. We'll look forward to your comments when you return.
Well, it's 9:20. Should call hospital to see if DH has been moved to a room yet. May stop by aquafit for coffee about 10 and then head in to hospital with a short stop at a shopping mall en route.
I got to a yarn store yesterday and picked up a few more colors for grandtwins' afghans. Also stopped by the Walmart in my daughter's neighbourhood which is a friendlier one than the new one near me. I think I'll get the yarn for the edges of Amy's afghan there - they have HUGE balls on beige and white quite inexpensive. Will also stop by Michael's Craft store which I go right by on the cross-town expressway and check out what they have. Still don't have the colors I want for Nolan's afghan, but the Red Heart yarns that I saw at Walmark have the best primary colors that I've seen so far.
Have to have my picture taken this afternoon by a good photographer in relation to the award for which I was nominated. The e-mail said they'd have a make-up artist. I sure hope I can disuade them from piling up mounds of make-up on my face. I HATE it. I'll allow as how a bit of concealer in a few spots might be worthwhile, but.......
I asked whether the photographer did passport photos, but she doesn't. My passport expires in a week. Maybe I'll get that done as well. My hair is shaggy and I don't have an appointment to get it cut until the 14th. May change that. But no tip again this month. It's been shaggy too long.
Hi to everyone else who I didn't address directly. Hope you all have a good day.
Ann
Gravois Mills, MO(Zone 6a)
Molly what is that picture about??? Do not tell me you forgot. I do not know your age but your getting older if you froget things. I sure hope you still have your teeth and don't need glasses if your getting forgetful. I mean eating apples and driving blind is tough if you can't find your esentials.
Ann you see that is what I mean about wife have to put up with it. Now there are times when she tells me she wants me to do something and I know exactly what she wants me to do. However, if I do not want to do it I can say "huh" are better yet get outta there as fast as possible. See with the latter way she does not know if I got it, and she might forget about it herself. Then again it comes in handy if I was suppose to do something a week ago and didn't. I can say " WHAT you never told me." Ahhhhh seee that way you can almost reverse the blame. Trouble with all this stuff is it does not work much after 42 yrs.
Starkville, MS
Well, its a little cooler here so far today, but is warming up nicely. The last few days were high 70's and full sunshine. I got a lot of prep work done in the new butterfly garden, and actually have a real plan for placement of some of the plants I want to add. I seem to be behind though, as I had at least three butterflies looking around yesterday! I put out some sugar water to try to pacify them for awhile. The mineral puddle is there for them too, so hopefully they won't give up on me.
sarv - I tracked my laptop several years ago - from Japan to Alaska to Texas to Alaska and headed for Japan! Then, I guess it jumped ship and it showed up in Tennessee and from there it took 5 more days to reach here. I decided that reading the tracking was *not* good for my heart rate! Good luck with yours, and don't panic if the record sends it astray - chances are, it is just where its supposed to be and will arrive safely.
~~ing to all. I'm headed for the great outdoors for the day. Prayers and best wishes for a wonderful day for all. ( IO1 - what sound have you decided to use for the ~wave? )
Susan I bet the cats peeing in the laundy has something to do with disatisfaction about something. Either with you are your husband. Are they selecting whos dirty laundry to go in. We went to St louis last time and Lady the dog came with us. we were gone overnight and when we got home the next evening the cat did not run up to greet us by the garage. I did not know where she was and we went in the house and came back out again and no cat. I happened to look on the rattan couch out in the florida room and there she was. did not want anything to do with us for about 1 1/2 days. Pouting because she was not taken with us. I have no idea what kind of trouble were going to get into when we go to Ohio for a week this summer. would take her but my daughter has 3 male cats and they are all a lot bigger than she is.
Albany, OR(Zone 8a)
Good morning all.
Is sunny tho it froze hard last nite. But it is sunny!!!!
So I can compete with Elaine with the sunshine but not the temp. tho.
Want to make some comments from yesterday.
Sheila, I want to tell you that I just LOVE that pic of Sammi snuggled under and between the pillows!!! Talk about a darling pic. He must have gone around the back of the pillows and then came thru with just his 1/2 of his body showing. SO SO cute!
Suzi, your pic of the Mac computer is just like my sister. She just got one like about 1 month ago. Unreal on how small it is. She loves it. So enjoy it!
Mary, yes, my son can take that test over and over. It is just a placement test to see where you are and what classes to take at the community college. He did realy bad, the scores were off the chart. We both couldn't believe it.
But Sarv won't like what I am going to say now, but....
I feel that the public school has failed him. He has really learned nothing in the past 4 years of high school, he says. He says he can't retain or comprehend material.
We have known this and have tried to work with it but.... He has struggled all his life with school and sure is coming to head now.
What is strange is the school keeps giving him like A's and B's most of the time. A lot of the points are for like coming to class, doing extra credit, and all kinds of non-related to the subject.
So we shall see what he will do. It is strange that I have one son who is graduating from college in May with high honors and going onto to dental school and the other son is so low on the chart that can't be read..... I feel for him so badly.
Robert, I hope you didn't hurt your back with that huge column. What you have set up so far looks great. Can't wait to see it in real daylight next time I come by.
Sarv, ok, guess we don't want to shock these guys here on our weight loss, hehe. As Ann said, we shouldn't weight each day. Let's do it like every Sunday or one day a week. You pick a day, ok?
Tho you know, I made some oatmeal cinn. chip cookies last nite. They are so so good!
I have been looking all over for the cinn. chips again. My mother really wanted to make the cookies so we looked all over the stores in Bellingham, WA and couldn't find them. I found them here in town at the Great Harvest Bakery. The guy sold me 10 lbs of them. So am now going to send them to her.
About your hellebores, are they in good soil and in the shade most of the time? I have had mine for just 2 years and they are loaded with blooms this year (don't mean to make you feel bad, but am so shocked on how many blooms I have on them). But I have very good composted soil there plus they are in mostly shade all year long. Will try to post a picture of them later.
Well, I got my tax refund deposited directly in the bank already! It only took 2 weeks! Am real surprised. The direct deposit is the way to go, I see. Think I am going to do this from now on. No more paper checks from the IRS.
So am going to celebrate somehow. Maybe go to the store and see what I want to buy, hehe. Like some good food for a good meal tonight.
So all have a great day today. The weekend is coming up so enjoy it!
Carol (DR)
Hi all
Just came in for a quick bite and to throw a load of clothes over in the dryer. Just had to come in here and see what's been going on in my absence. I've been sweeping, weeding, planting more seeds and watering. I'm so so sorry ... but oh it's so pretty out. I'm in shorts and sandles today. For those who don't like me ... you'll love this. Picked up the hose and wasn't paying attention. Turned it on full force to wash out a flower pot and hit myself square in the fase!! So there ... you don't have to send the 2X4 after me for enjoying the weather. LOL
Genni, I assigned a sound scheme called MSN switch. Can't describe it ... but it's just *perfect* !! ~~~ What a happy sound!!
OZ, I *never* take advantage of being blind *wink* If I leave something laying around ... I just say ... Oh you know how it is ... out of sight out of mind. LOL Now we'd make a pair. I couldn't see anything you did, and you wouldn't be able to hear anything I said. ;)
Okay, back outside!! ~~~~~
... Elaine
Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)
Oz, that picture is the uncleared end of my veggie garden. I need to get it raked and ready for seeds. It's the other end of this area in this photo.
And Oz, I am 52, need my glasses more often all the time and suffer from CRS frequently. My hearing and my nose/sniffer are still in good working order. Lost a few teeth in '04 but had one planted back. My heart is perfect, my lungs still working having quit cigs in '02, and I am a woman with a bad attitude. Resume is over. :^))))))
I can't believe how fast today is going. I just looked at the clock and was surprised to see that it is after 12:00. Wish I could say that time was flying cause I'm having fun, LOL.
Started out this morning by finding out my car has a big scratch in it. When I was putting my stuff in the car leaving for work i found a scratch about a foot long in the rear passenger side door. grrrrrr. The car will only be a year old in April. It got it's first boo boo when I had only had it for a month. DGS was camping with us and decided to "color" on the car with a stone. If his mother had been watching him better that one would not have happend.
It was really pretty here this mornign. We had rain / freezing rain yesterday. Everything froze overnight and when the sun come up this morning, everything just glistened.
As far as bailing out stepdaughter. If it were up to me, she would still be sitting there. Stepson did 6 mo in jail and it was the best thing that ever happend to him. Definately not something he wants to ever repeat.
Sarv - Have you ever flown? The first time I went was 4 years ago when I went to St. Louis for a business conference. I was scared to death. The co-worker I flew with had flown before, but was more scared than I was. I ended up calming her down and loved it. I love being above the clouds and looking down on them.
Oz - the males in my household have "selective hearing".
Molly - that looks like a huge veggie garden.
Elaine - That hose story was too funny. See what ya get for teasing those of us northerners. Wait until summer when your baking in the heat and we are still nice and comfy, lol. (just teasing ya a little because I'm really jealous).
Susan - So glad to hear your progress. It feels like such freedom to be able to drive yourself where you want to go. Sorry about the problem at the dentist office.
Gotta go for now. Be back later.
Yep, Suzie ... I'll be complaining soon enough! ... just wait and see! LOL LOL
Right now I've run out of steam! More coffee, please! Got to look for a recipe for a lactose free ranch dressing for the DH while I rest up.
... ~Elaine~
Dillonvale, OH(Zone 6a)
Afternoon everyone!
Elaine, I an so jealous. We have a coating of snow, had an inch or so last night but it is melting in the sun. It is only around 27 degrees though.
Sue, I wrote you a dmail a few minutes ago... talk to you soon!
Molly and Jeremy and Darius, you guys have done so much in such a short amount of time!! Its really great. Want to come help me next? LOL
VA, hope hubby continues to get better. I don't know how you do so much! Seems like you are constantly on the go. It wears me out reading it LOL
I am missing alot of people I know but I got screaming kids here arguing. Yes they are feeling better, and I have a nagging headache :(
Hugs to all, and talk soon
Janis
Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)
Well, you all have been very busy today. I am not going to comment on anything, as I have to get to the kitchen and make a meat loaf for the DGD, who will be here after school. Surfice it to say, I have read all, and snorted a couple of times, and grinned. Hope all who are sick/ailing are feeling better, and those with yucky weather, hope it gets better soon, and for those fortunate enough to be wearing shorts, hope you put on some sun screen.
Well, this morning was no better than yesterday. I think I am operating this week on a very short fuse!! Picked up DM to go to the cardiologist. She is supposed to take fluid pills every day, well she remembered to not take it yesterday, as she was going to be at the church meeting. Well, just as soon as we got in the car this morning, she had to go to the bathroom, so back in the house we go. She walks with a walker, and moves at a snail's pace. Well we got back in the car, me knowing that we were going to be late, and I drove faster than usual. Got 2 miles from the Dr.'s office, and she has to go again. Pulled into a mini mart where DS girfriend works, and she went there. Got to the Dr's office, and when they call her back, has to go again. The plan was that we were going to leave there and go across the street, where she would wait for me to get the blood drawn etc, and then go home. Well I knew that she couldn't do that, as the restrooms are too far for her to walk. So brought her back home, and raced back to the hospital to get my tests done. The trip is 15 miles one way. So I have been racing around all morning. Got so aggrevated that I vowed to call my older sister, and just say, okay, I have had it, now it's somebody elses turn to do what I have been doing for years. I have been doing everything for her for about 4 years, with no help at all.
Rats, I am off the soap box, now. Have a whopper of a headache and am going to lie down to see if I can get rid of it before DGD arrives. Please know that there is no way I can crawl through this computer and hurt anyone, so please don't be afraid of me.!! The good news was, while I was gone, DH vacuumed the whole house for me. Sort of mellowed me some, wasn't that sweet?
Later
south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)
Afternoon - just got back from the workout joint, pharmacy, post office, tax preparers office, gas station, car wash, hobby store, and favorite garden store and MIL. Phew, need to put my feet up!! At the garden store I picked up another heat mat, seeds, vase and plate that was 75%off. Everything I got was on sale - ahhh that's the way I love to shop!
DR/vi - I weigh myself every morning just after getting out of bed and using the 'jon'. If I don't weigh daily, I have a tendency to overeat...How would Friday morning work??? I will still do the daily weigh in, but will report on the Friday weight. (that way we can cheat on the weekends!!)
DR - don't worry about offending me re schools. I saw so many kids slip thru the cracks while I was working- about broke my heart. If they didn't learn to read in elementary, it was almost hopeless that they would pick it up further up the pike. Just doesn't happen, unless drastic measures are taken... I had a couple of students go for private/daily tutoring and that did help, but most people can't afford that. My friend tutors and charges $30 for 1/2 hour. I just couldn't charge that....plus transportation home was usually a problem... Now I feel guilty about not volunteering my time now that I am retired....Sure hope things work out for him - was he ever identified with a learning disability? Kids who have that get special consideration in our local 2 yr college - extra tutoring, quiet rooms for testing, someone reading the test to them etc Has he ever considered a tech kind of school where they learn a trade? Hope things work out for him...
Talk about selective hearing!!! I leave notes for DH because then I can prove that I told him!! It used to irritate him that I did that, but he's gotten used to it now. If I really am ticked, I talk in a soft voice.....shame on me.. LOL
I think we should take a poll here- how many wear glasses/contacts? I bet we all do!!! I have to keep mine in the same spot everynight, because I can't see to find them! I once took them off to slip a sweater over my head, forgot where I was and had to wait for DH to come home so he could find them!! I need to get in to get the old eyes tested too - been three years in June. (remind me to do that will ya?)
suz - if your car is all dirty like mine was, you don't see the scratches so much!! Now that it is washed, there is a huge scrape where some knucklehead backed into me. No, I have never actually gotten off the ground in a plane - got on one and freaked out and had to get off. Was dating a guy that worked at the airport at the time - years ago...Maybe with a couple of stiff drinks and a few xanax I could tolerate it now.
IO1 - glad you got wet.....LOL - snowing up here- ugh
DH is home, gotta go!
tgif - that was some trip your computer went on. I just got notified that mine will arrive on Tues at 10:30am - of course I have a hair appointment at that time - how can they be sure it will be that time...?? I'm sure they won't leave it on the front porch either. I think I may leave a note to take it next door to the neighbors.
Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)
Hi there,
Quick update. DH was moved to his own room today - probably just after I phoned and they told me he'd still be where he was. I had to do a little walking around to find him. He now has a phone; so he's not cut off. And he says they stopped trying to sell him morphine. Still on a mostly liquid diet - they say, until the bowels move. And I said how are they gonna move if you don't give him something to go through the system. Nurse said maybe she could find some prune juice.
Will go back this evening with his coat (which I brought home for safe keeping (just in case DD brings him home on Sunday while I'm playing the church service), a battery operated radio, some real slippers rather than the cheap hotel flip-flops which he took because if wouldn't matter if they got lost, and a few other items.
Got the picture taken. But not the passport ones - gotta wash off some of the make-up for a color photo. Found some yarn at Michaels, but will have to go back to Walmart for sure. Too bad I can't seem to find all the colors at one location.
That's about it for now. Will respond to others later.
Ann
Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)
Hi everyone. This morning I took a test, a fun test. A website @ www.realage.com has a test that will show you if you are older or younger than your actual calendar age, based on heredity, diet, exercise, safety and other factors. It tells me I am 1.7 years younger. It also tells you why your age score is what it is, so you know what to work on. Take a look. When you get to the page the link to get the test is in the lower section of the page, small print, they want you to read all of the above info first.
Another unbusy night at the lamb barn, so I got a lot of sleep. My first nap was a couple of hours sandwiched between two cats. We were all nice and warm! The little weak lamb seems to have learned from his new sibling how to get dinner out of his mothers udder, so all seems to be well there. Another ewe has lost her lamb probably due to weather factors, they had been turned out into the pasture for a few days, so she is in the barn contributing milk (my job again) until she gets a replacement lamb. Now we need another set of triplets so she can have one to raise. The birth rate is really slow this year, only 4 ewes lambed yesterday, only 2 the day before.
Speaking of cats, our 15+#er sneaked into the house recently. Neut always looks for a chance and was probably in here for 10 minutes before I noticed that the kitten was all puffed up looking defensive under a table and behind chair legs. The big cat was just strolling along casually (he is more casual than most cats) and not being threatening at all. It was their first meeting but I am sure she has seen him through the window or when somebody opens the door, but for a 7 pound kitten to meet something that big in her turf was kind of traumatic! He just stolled down the stairs to the back door and I let him out and that was that. Now, when the weather gets warmer and she is out in his yard and garden, things are likely to be more exciting! He runs the yellow kitty out of the vegie garden, that is HIS space. Good thing she is young and agile, but he can move surprisingly fast for a tubby guy.
Here's a suggestion for you dieters if you don't want to post your starting weight publically, just start at X and then tell us if it is plus or minus for the week. Or a goal weight loss could be handled the same way and you could say G plus 20 for instance, and when you loose a couple of pounds it would be G plus 18. Just a thought. I probably didn't explain that very well. Goal weight plus whatever number you still want to loose. That way we could all see your progress and cheer you on and you would spare yourself some embarrassment.
Elaine, LOL at the squirt you got. That's confusing enough when a person can see.
Oz, I can see some advantages to not hearing, but I would never tell your wife. She's probably got you figured out by this time anyhow.
Dmc, I am sure that your inherited property was left to you all to have some benefit. You've been patient but gee, time marches on. I agree that she should sell it to you or just agree to sell it. Probably the legal action will not be too good for your family relationship, but it doesn't sound really good anyhow. Has she paid any of the taxes?
VAnn, I hope your hubby can get into a regular room soon. The way I see it, the visiting hours are actually 2 to 4 and 6 to 7. I'm sure that is not what the intent is, but that's the way I read it. Good thing there are phones. Possibly they have it posted that way so they can oust some visitors who stay too long for the good of the patient. He's likely to be kind of out of it for a couple of days anyhow, and as long as he is doing well and not having problems he probably appreciates the time to sleep. When my hubby had some surgery he didn't even know I was there until the 2nd day, asked me where I had been, wasn't aware that I was there when he woke up, and again a few hours later. After he got into a regular room he had a horribley sick roommate who was a very noisy sleeper, coughed a lot, sounded like he was gonna die, and my hubby didn't get much sleep, so was glad when they let him come home.
Going to the dentist and waiting and waiting, no fun, and very inconsiderate of them to not at least say we are having some problems, can you wait or do you need to reschedule? Sorry you need aditional work. I'm (not) looking forward to the crown I need to get soon. My stomach gets tied in a knot every time I go, even just to the hygenist. My early history with dentists was not good.
Dcat, the timing of the water pill was a bit off! The buildup from the previous day probably contributed to it. Has anybody told her that they will wash the potassium out of her system which can cause muscle weakness (including the heart). A friend had just that problem and now is on a potassium supplement. She was being treated for a long standing heart problem that turned out to be nonexistant after she went to a cardiologist and had tests. 3 doctors and 20+ years ago, one had prescribed a bata blocker and every time she moved and got a new doctor they just gave her the same thing, no tests, pretty irresponsible I think.
Sarv, I recall that some of the students (term used loosely) that graduated with me could barely read. How do they fall through the cracks for that many years? I'm glad you see the problem instead of being defensive about it like so many teachers seem to be. I remember 2 boys in my school who were mentally retarded, they got pushed along until after 8th grade and then disappeared, there was no mental health tests or treatments available in our small school system in the 50's. One kid could fix anything mechanical, so he maybe had some kind of future, but the other boy just made spitwads and slept until recess or lunch. He was never called on, sat in the back corner, and basically just didn't exist as far as the teachers were concerned. Thankfully he was not a troublemaker.
I'm going to go for a ride before it gets any later. I see clouds moving in, hope to stay dry. Back later.
Hi,
First off, to answer questions about my hair (and challenges about the camera-shy bit) ---- yes, I usually either have it tied back in a pony tail during the winter and in a braid for the summer. If it's really hot out, I put it into two braids and wrap them around my head. I don't think I've managed to get spaghetti sauce in it yet, but I did once manage to get it sucked up into the air intake on an electric drill and didn't know it until the drill socked me in the face. Ow! Oh yeah, and I once managed to get it caught in the rollers of one of those antique washing machines ---- that was fun too. Good thing I never worked around heavy machinery. Yes, I have had it short --- exactly three times so far. Once because I got sent to summer camp (what a fiasco), once because I was forced into getting a haircut by my mother (and it was such a bad haircut that even she agreed that I'd better wear a hat for a month or two) and once when I decided that I wanted a Beatle haircut. The last one had the extra benefit of giving dear old dad heartburn.
On the photo thing ---- no fair, sarv, YOU look good in the photograph! D'cat, no ski mask, I promise! I actually don't look bad (especially for my age) in person and even at least 80% of the time in the mirror, but on the rare occasion when a photograph has been taken, Yecchhh! My first reaction upon seeing such is "Please crawl back under the rock" and my second reaction is to be extra depressed for the rest of the day.
9kitty, an annual kitty pee party, that's a new one on me (thank heavens). I don't know whether or not it would help, but have you tried a citrus scent fabric softener? It might deter them from the clean laundry at least. Oz, yup, I've witnessed the same sort of behavior from cats (and have heard about friends' dogs acting much worse) when they're in a huff about being left behind.
Janis, glad the kids are getting better (I think). Hope you've escaped the bug yourself.
D'cat, hope you've lost the headache by now. You probably mentioned it before, but what operation was the blood test for?
Vann, glad that your DH is on the mend and apparently not in as much pain as was expected.
Who asked about how many of us wear glasses or contacts? I used to wear contacts, but can't seem to manage that anymore. The bi-focal contact lenses are awful. Of course, I've been wearing glasses or lenses since the fourth grade anyway. I'm sure I needed them before that, but was a little slow on the uptake ----- thought the world looked blurry to everybody, I guess.
This is turning into a novelette again, so will just use the little ~ symbol and wave goodbye for now (especially to all those I didn't mention by name).
Mary, he GOT into his own room. And re the visiting hours, you read it as I read it and as the way it was written.
But they actually mean that visiting hours are 11:30 - 2, 4 - 6 and 7 -8 with breaks from 2-4 and 6-7. Somebody needs a good English lesson.
I remember when I was in the hospital I didn't want ANY visitors!! The first time we were on a camping vacation (appendix) and I felt so awful, sick to my stomach etc, that I didn't want to see anyone. My DH went back to the campground and told everyone that I didn't want visitors. My parents were camping with us and they insisted they had to come up to see me- DH got very vocal about me NOT wanting visitors - of course they came anyway - and I looked awful and my mom left in tears...they left the campground early..LOL
Second time I had to have my gallbladder out and after three days of misery, they finally admitted me but I was a stand in for surgery. I told DH to go to work and come up afterwards - I was alone all day and the nurses were aghast that my DH wasn't with me. I could have cared less....took me into the operating room and still no DH. They were all whispering behind my back and again, I didn't give a hoot. He was there when I woke up and that was good enough. Told him not to waste $$ on flowers, I wanted some manure instead! We're a good pair!
When I had our first child DH was with me the whole time and spent the time snoozing which about drove me crazy..
Tonight is stinko wrestling, so I am going to retire to my bed/tv and read a good book. I have to call my sister as I won't be home tomorrow morning - GARDEN CLASS!!! --with a boxed lunch -= yuck.
What ever happened to the kidney stone??? and where is MARIA?????
Sarv,
Maria is a bit under the weather. Talked to her today ... said she is feeling better than yesterday ... but she still sounds a bit stuffy to me. :-(
Drat ! Got the stone moved, after a bout with Apple and their poor phone help. Then the pictures show up in my photo library and album, but not when I try to post them on DG. GRR
Surgery ain't no fun and you all have my deepest sympathy. hope DH is doing OK Ann.
Done wore plum out so's I better have me a wee dram, get wet all over, put city clothes on and head for the Concert. Everett Symphony is doing excerpts from Wagner's Ring and something from Tolkien's Lord of the Ring thing.
Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)
Hi There,
Went to visit again. DH has his phone hooked up and is happy. The ventilation system spews out cold air and there aren't any adjustments in the room. Nurse or orderly or someone (I haven't a clue who is who) said the best best was to put a blanket over it. And he's got yesterday's paper, and two papers from today that he's prepared to put over the blanket if it still filters through. I told him it's better than too hot. You can always ask for more blankets if you get chilly. For some reason they are still reluctant to put him on a regular diet. He says he's getting nauseous from all the apple juice. Too sweet. We found him some cranberry juice in the "galley" fridge. One of the volunteers had found some for him this morning before I got there, but nobody else seemed capable of finding any. Good sign if he's complaining about the food! And his walks are getting longer and more frequent.
Came home and found a message on the answering machine which I followed up on. Our church has been left $300,000 at the minimum and apparently there is more coming when something gets settled. They are going to undertake a series of meetings with members to decide what to do with it and they want me to be co-chair of the ad-hoc committee that is being struck to oversee the process. Do I want to do this? Especially when I want to secure a measly $1000 to buy 5 small handbells and their case - am I in a conflict of interest? The money is serious money, but not enough to invest and do something with the proceeds of the investment. Gotta think about this one.
Hope you enjoyed the concert, bal.
Who was it asked about glasses or contacts? I'm blind as a bat w/o my glasses. One eye is about 20/200 and the other one not quite so bad. Got hard contact lenses when I was 17 (1961) and wore them until about 1990. By then I had so much astigmatism that it was hard to get the newer gas-permeable lenses to work well in my eyes. Soft contact lenses were never an option. One day I decided I wasn't seeing as well anywhere - distance or for reading - as I wanted, and went back to glasses. I sometimes think about having laser surgery - at least on the really bad eye if for so no other reason than to reduce the cost of my glasses. LOL So far, I just think about it.
Good night all.
Goodnight, Gracie.
Bartlesville, OK(Zone 6a)
It was a very nice day here today. Still that 'chance' of rain they dangle over us and then say oops not this time.
I got out and pruned a few things, the honeysuckle, most of the clematis and the rose bushes. One rose bush looks like it may have croaked. I have terrible black spot anyway that I fight constantly. Maybe I should plant a resistant variety.
I raked leaves again and pulled that muscle again under my buttock. I don't know what that is, but it sure does hurt. I happens when I am leaning over and raking one handed with my left hand, my back is breaking and that spot is burning. Hurts even now in my nice computer chair. I am just destined to always hurt somehow because I want to actually do things. imagine that???...
After I uncovered the crocus under my tree flower bed that were buried in 6 to 8 inches of leaves, the next day they started to bloom all over. It is very pretty. I need to get some pictures tomorrow before alll that heavy rain messes them up. uh huh
Somebody asked about the kidney stone. I would like to know the answer to that question too. It just quit hurting one day, hasn't hurt since and she is so busy doing all her stuff that she hasn't went back to the doctor either. It is almost time for the thyroid surgery, March 15, so now we are thinking about that I guess. The insurance is giving her a hard time saying it may be a preexisting condition and won't pay for it, so she is getting worried about that, and saying maybe she won't have it. She NEEDS to have it done. She says she doesn't want to lose her house with a giant medical bill she can't pay. It's always something. Oh and Jessica (DGD) has a bad ear infection again, green/black stuff coming out, very painful, Friday night of course. BUT last time she had it, they gave her double the correct prescription, so she has a full prescription left and has started her on it. Guardian angel again??? We all, Thank GOD have them. Always have, I can even talk to mine. OK, I will not go weird on you. LOL
Ann, how long does your DH have to stay there? I thought that was a quick in and outkind of thing? And he needs to eat for goodness sake.
I will be glad to see Maria back here. I hope she gets better really soon. We miss you Maria!!
Where's Kelly????? Hope she's OK too and not down with something.
Elaine, you are toooo funny. For those of us who don't like you INDEED.....We all love you....
It was funny though, tee hee
Off to do the daily,
Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)
You all can't go to bed and leave me here all alone. I am scared of the dark!!
I haven't had time to post individual comments to each and everyone. But rest assured that I have read all, and have thoroughly enjoyed it.
McCool, the blood tests are not in preparation for surgery but for a colonoscopy on Tuesday. I hate them, but about 6 weeks ago a close friend went for her first one, and they discovered cancer. She had surgery, and did well. She is currently taking chemo. I do not want to have that scenerio repeated. I had one 3 years ago, and they did find and remove some polyps, so this is just a check, and then if everything is clear I won't need one for another 5 years. So if anyone hollers for me on Monday, there will be a 99% chance that I am visiting the throne!!
Mary, the water pill was indeed ill timed. My DM is slowly loosing her thinking/reasoning power. It just kind of ticked me that she would remember not to take it yesterday, and then take it today, knowing that she had that appointment. I had told her that she should wait and take it when we returned from the Dr. I have called her general practioner, and told him that I am having trouble with her not taking her meds as prescribed. She has congestive heart failure, with a pace maker, and is to take the fluid pill every day. I just cannot seem to make her understand the need for it. So he is going to talk to her about it when I take her in for a check up. She takes many meds, and I always prepare them in the little pill holders by day. Well, she ran out, and the other day was there, going to sort the meds, and she had already filled the containers. Had all her "night" meds in with the day meds. So I asked her what she had planned, and she said not much, and I answered that I sure am glad, because you will be sleeping most of the day!! That is another thing, sometimes I am a bit late getting the meds separated, and she will inevitabely try to do it. I tell her to just leave them alone. Well, I don't want to have you do any more than you have to for me is the answer. Parenting children is a lot easier than parenting parents!!
Okay to all who are still having cold/bad weather, hope it improves, to those who are sick/not feeling well, hope you get better pronto. To those who are starting seeds/ hope they jump overnight.
( I had some do that last night)
Oh, I did have to comment on glasses/contacts. Have worn glasses since the 3rd grade. Went to contacts years ago, but when vision changed, and need bifocals, did the glasses thing. I leave them in the same place every night, and they are the first thing I do in the morning. I can see without them, but it is (sometimes) better with them. If there is plenty of dirt/clutter, I leave them off for awhile.LOL>
Well, I am ~~~ goodnight to all. Hope I can do better tomorrow and answer every post. Have a good restful, warm night.
=^..^=
Okay, now don't y'all all go weird on me or nothing. Just gonna tell you my story about glasses. When I was born,the doctors knew my sight was *really* bad but back then it was hard to test and know exactly what a little baby could see. I got my first pair of glasses before I was 1 year old. My Mama said when they put those glasses on me I would sit in her lap and run my hands over her face like I'd never been able to see her before. She said that when she got me out of my crib in the mornings I wanted my glasses first thing. She always talked about how I wandered around touching and looking at things as if I'd never seen them before, so they know from these things that my sight was very bad even way back then. God blessed me so to let me keep my vision until I could get out of school and meet the help mate he had in mind for me. Anyway, I started wearing glasses before age 1. My Grandma took me to a hospital in Detroit, but I don't know what it was. I have had surgeries all the way down to Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami. It wasn't in God's will for my sight to be restored . He knew my DH would need it much worse later. I'm glad He's seen the big picture and has made the decisions accordenly.
Sorry if I've offended anyone or stepped on toes or opinions. Didn't mean to at all
It's late and I'm waving to those I've not spoken to . ~~~~
Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)
101, if anyone dares pick on you, you just let me know.
I understand, I have a friend who is epileptic, and has a service dog. She was very bitter, when I first met her, but now has learned to live with the disease, and is grateful that there is so much help for her.
We just all need to accept the gifts/limitations that God has given us. And learn to live a joyful, fruitful life around them.
I used to moan about not having talents, but god has given me a greatful heart, and willing hands, so I do what I can with them.
Happy, restful night to all.
Bonnie
