Coffee and...For Thursday, March 2, 2006 =^..^=
Oops. Susan slipped in and put up today's thread while I was posting. I'll go ahead and put my other pics up here. This one is my side of the family. From left, my DB, DS, DM, me, my DH holding DD, and my DS. This is my sister Nikki who I was talking about before. As you can see by the fact that our children are in the picture with us, we went about the whole family thing a little backwards. The honeymoon was a nice break away from kids.
I am so happy that your sister got to be with you for your wedding. What a wonderful memory that makes. You were beautiful and your DH is so handsome. I'm sure you are still just as beautiful, it wasn't that long ago. LOL
Susan
=^..^=
It's not been that long, but I've changed alot!! I've put on about 45 pounds since then. I guess I should be going on the diets with the others. LOL
Mornin' evenin' not sure which, since I haven't been to sleep yet.
Warning!! If you have a weak stomach, skip this post, and just know the flu has hit our house.
Put the kids to bed at 8, was looking forward to some quiet time, at about 8:45 DD 7 yells, "I threw up". Everywhere in her bed. got her up, bathed her, changed her bed put her back to bed. 9:10 I hear feet running the the bathroom. sick again. Bring her downstairs, give her flat pop and Pepto. That stayed about 20 minutes maybe. At midnight, we went to the ER. Told me to expect it from the other end (eugh) and that we would probably all get it. Wonderful. Goes on to say, "If your lucky, this one won't get it back as the last one gets over it". Even better. Thanks so much.
Yada yada yada. Take sick DD to the grocery store, cause I'm a mom and I know that I'm not leaving the house except to go to the ER again for a few days. Spent $50+ on gatorade, juice, popsicles, chicken soup.... you know the things.
Came home, got in the door and saw the trail of vomit coming down the stairs (double eugh... carpet) and saw DD 9 on the couch. She woke up sick while I was gone. Yippee. Told mornin_gayle on the phone I'm gonna tape buckets to both DS's heads like feed bags so I don't have to worry about them missing.
Wish me patience and good health. Boy! What a week huh?
LOL
hugs to all
Janis
Flowerchild~you're just a baby!! Beautiful pictures, beautiful family....I've been enjoying all the weddings! I'm glad your sister got to enjoy it with you,
Janis~yup, ugh, ewwwww and all that... one of my worstest parent jobs was being the barf cleaner....for some bright reason we had puppies when the kids were little and between them on the carpets and kids illnesses I longed for a tiled house with a drain in the middle that I could just hose down....hope they get better soon, or their aim improves at least, and that you don't get it!
Ann, dcat, Elaine, dr~continuing prayers for healing for your DH, DMIL, and DFs.
Mary~Your rides always sound so great, I hope I get to ride at the farm soon. I don't know how far you can go on 175 acres, I guess not far compared to the open range you have, but it will be more than I've had yet, and it will be all new to me. Hoping too for the lamb....I can imagine it was cold, the chill really settles in.
gotta get kids out, bbl~
(((( Woofy ))))
Distant hugs so I don't catch it! This brings to mind a song from the movie Gigi...."Ah yes, I remember it well" And so I do!
Flat Coke and soda crackers is still my remedy, and for worse cases, Coke syrup on ice. In fact, just had to test it out last week and it still seems to work!
Sleep when you can, and I hope it runs it's course quickly.
~~ to everyone else! (love that wave)
Pati
Good Morning - breakfast report for bal and m5- meat loaf pie - new recipe I tried last night and it was a keeper. Although if I had read woof's post sooner, I would have skipped breakfast!! Yuck, I hate the stomach stuff. When my kids had it they managed for the most part to make it to the bathroom and the few times they didn't, DH took over - I cannot stand clean up duty - give me a dirty diaper anytime!
The coughy, sinus crud is going around big time in this area. Closed school because of it. Local doc was on the radio yesterday telling he had never ever seen so many sick people coming to his office. Even the people with the flu shot. I was surprised to hear from him that even if you get the shot you could come down with the crud, the shot protects you so that you don't 'die' from it. Hmmm, puts a whole new slant on the shot for me.
Flower - you are a baby!! What nice pictures. How old are the kid now?
We are having 'crash city' on the roads this morning - ice came overnight. Many schools closed and just as many on a 2 hr delay. DS/DIL are both teachers and have to teach today - they'll be complaining!
Have to go hop in the shower- be back later...
Good morning,
FlowerChild - lovely pictures. Have to agree with the others about your being young. And I bet you still look young even if you have put on weight. You did REALLY well on your wedding expenses.
Janis - my thoughts are with you as you suffer through the barfy flu epidemic in you house.
dmc - I'm with your thoughts on being a barf cleaner. Fortunately, DH had a better stomach for that than I did. But he travelled a lot and managed to miss a few episodes. Oh the joys of parenting! LOL
Sarv - lots of colds going round here but a report on the news last evening indicated that confirmed cases of flu are down from over 7000 in 2004-2005 to under 2000 this season. This is partly because our medical service provides free flu shots for everyone. And I think more people got the shots this past year with all the hype about bird-flu even though regular flu shots would have no effect on a bird-flu.
Have a good day everyone.
Ann
Oh Geesh, I never met a man who could stomach listening to that stuff let alone clean it. Do you think that's a ploy to get the women folk to take care of it?
Little chilly out this morning but getting better. Went out of town and picked up lots of new plantings. Will work up a little sweat putting them in and getting the veggie garden expanded for more seeds.
Now, I need to quit buying plants, or go to work. Guess I better find some work to go to.
:^)))
I'm sure you won't have to look far, Molly!! We'll need more pictures soon with all that greenery going in!
Ugh, poor you Woofens! That's the one thing I can't clean up, my kids learned from the time they could toddle they better make it to the bathroom because clean up was almost as bad as the initial spew. Maybe the recovery will be as rapid as the onset, we can only hope!
Loved the wedding pictures, FC, kids look adorable. And you are as cute as can be. I'm going to go look for one, we've racked up twenty years this October, so it won't look much like todays photos! Aha! Found it. Boy, you can see how much digital photography has improved the quality of pictures, this was taken with a 35mm.
Hey Sarv,what's in that meat loaf pie? Wanna give out the recipe? I'm always looking for casseroles to get away from that tuna noodle one that DH thinks is fine cuisine. I bought a four pound pkg of ground beef last week and made it all into patties, because it freezes and thaws faster that way.
~~ to everybody, will come back later and try to respond more individually, have read, but need to get busy so see you later....
Sheila
Everybody made such beautiful brides!!!!!
Molly
:^)))
Lovely wedding pictures, flowerchild and M5, you look stunning, Mizzer, wonderful expression on your face, very sweet.
I am sitting here with a horrid case of cold and feel bronchitis coming on just hope it will not turn into pneumonia as it did last year. Guess I just will rest today and wish for it to go away soon.
Yard is full of Robbins, they have come out of the woods, Samson thinks he can catch one, LOL
PS just received a notice from a goverment agency to be carefful about buying mulch at a very inexpensive price. It may come from trees that have been demaged from the hurricane and cut down, chopped then to be sold as mulch . It contains Formosan termites,
So beware
Hi all, I am quickly posting this am. Due to leave in about 15 minutes to take DM to church meeting. Will comment on all when I return.
((woofens)) hope it all goes away soon.
Wow, Maria, thanks for the note on the mulch. I have heard about don't buy cars from the south due to the hurricane but this muclh sounds bad with termites. Hope you don't get too sick with that cold. Stay warm and drink lots of fluids to flush it thru you.
Janis, am so sorry you are dealing with the nasty flu. Geez, when my boys were like that, I made them carry a bowl around with them all the time.
Sheila, love the wedding pic of you. You do look so sweet.
FC, your wedding pics are great. You guys must have scanned them up. Guess I need to do that to. Good idea. Tho my marriage didn't last as of 2 years ago, but I love to look at the pictures.
Molly, yes, guess you need to finally make some money, huh? But I think what you have done has been good for your body and soul. Took a good break, got Jeremy up and running and happy, and made a wonderful place for you guys to live. Keep it up!
As for yesterday's post,
I forgot to mention that I got to see and meet Robert's puppies. Immy was a wild case. She was so excited to see me that she had to be put in a room. Tinker was just a nice mellow pooch.
Ok, Sarv, do we weight each day and post it here or just say we did it? I am glad that you and Ann will be my "lard" buddies on this weight lose.
I was good yesterday. Didn't eat too much, tried to walk around and get things done. Wanted to go on a walk with the neighbor who wants to lose some weight too but she couldn't go. So I piddled around the gardens for a bit.
Then my son came home and he was very depressed about not doing well on a college placement test. So I asked him to go for a walk and he actually did!
So we chatted a lot. It was actually very nice for once. No yelling or screaming, just talked about his future after high school.
Dmc, thanks for asking about my son and his neck. Nothing so far. He needs to go see the doc. again to see if it would be ok for him to lift weights again. But just normal living, he is fine.
Well, the sunshine is gone. It is cold and windy again today. So guess will get a lot of inside things done today. Would like to get some more seeds started tho.
Have a good day everyone.
Keep the flu and don't pass it here please.
Hope all get over this stuff tho. It is time for SPRING!
Carol (DR)
Been busy today trying to figure out new functions on this computer. It is a iMac G5 for anyone familiar with Macs
DH just called. He and lawyer took stepdaughter to answer for one of her warrents. They kept her and he is on his way home to get bail. She may still have to spend the night. Lawyer wasn't expecting this since they started procedings in another county. They have two more counties to go through yet. The other 2 are in PA, so I don't know what that will mean. Very stressful stuff.
Planning on leaving work early today. Roads are very icy. My work is a little south of home and it's just enough difference to make a big difference in the roads.
See everyone later!
Hi all
I love this weather!!! I've been out pulling weeds ... and my oh my we *have* a *lot* of weeds! I went to Lowes last night and looked at flowers ... then went to HD ... yeah yeah ... we went to WM too! Okay so I made the rounds. I want a Daphne Adora but can't find one, so I'll just keep looking. Anyway, I found my first hosta. Well, it's the bulbs, and called an Elisabeth hosta. Can't wait to see what she's gonna look like.
Woofens ... so so sorry to hear about the kids. You have sure had a *lot* on your plate lately. Hope it will be over as quick as it came on.
Maria, tell Samson he'd better take *good* care of you and be a good boy! LOL
Ann, glad to hear your DH is getting along okay. Please keep us informed to his progress.
Carol, I fear I've been negligent in asking about your son but am glad to know he's adjusting. Am still remembering your Dad.
M5, how'd it go without the DH last night? Any extra treats ... good movies ... hot relaxing soaks? Mon, fess up, girl!
Sarv, please do share that recipe. Sounds so good. Sounds right up the DH's alley.
Pati ~~~ you were sick with that stuff and didin't let us know?
Well, I haven't gotten a thing done inside. Need to find something to eat, but I'll close with this story ...
I got up one morning to get the coffee, and when I came in the kitchen ... my girl had been sick *everywhere*. I didn't want to track all over my carpet, so I just stood there and hollared ..."the baby's been sick" Poor DH got up ... came in here and started cleaning up. He got so so sick he had to call in sick to work!!! Men ... they just aren't made like women! LOL LOL
~~~ Elaine
WELLLLLL Miss Molly Mac I read the sick post and further I have cleaned it up when my kids were sick a few times. And I can guarantee you I am full blown funtional male with all the related problem you associate with males in spite of my 66 yrs.
Sorry Oz, That was kind of a sexist comment. But not really, it just has to do with the kind of fellas I used to hang out with.
You know what they say, all the good ones are taken. :^)))))
Molly
I was teasing you molly. I take no offense at anything. as long as it is not discrimination. That was not what i consider discrimination. mostly true anyway
Good late morning, everyone!
I've been up since 0530, but been busy around the house. I still have a few things to do, but I'm taking a tea break and catching up on the thread. DH leaves for Japan in the wee hours and I've been making sure all his stuff is laid out so he can come home this afternoon and pack it. He has his "military" system of packing his uniforms, so I just let him have at it. LOL He's going to try getting away from work a little early so he has a chance to take care of some business. He's supposed to be at a luncheon with all the Ombudsmen of the base from 1100-1300 and is going to try to get away after that. He's got his stand-in in place and I keep telling him, quit trying to fix all the problems before you leave, there will always be others waiting when you get back. Make the stand-in do your job, that's why they are the stand-ins. LOL
Everyone's wedding pictures are so precious. Even us older ones, you can see the difference between the photos, the colour has faded a bit, but the happiness we all felt on our special day was still there. Shoestring budget or the works, it matters not. It's the intent of making your covenant with the one you love that's important.
Hugs to all, I have to get going on the bill paying.
With care, ~Babs~
Afternoon - brr couldn't get the darn woodstove to take off - it got down to 63 deg in here- much to cold foe me!! DH just came home and got it going good. He walked in the door saying 'oh, I feel awful' - but as I looked at him just now, he is eating a snack...hmmm something isn't right here... LOL
Just got an email that my new computer is being shipped - yahoo!! Now you all will have to help me with the anti-virus stuff- never worried about it with my mac. Oh suze has a new computer too....and a mac!!
I did end up going to the huff/puff and felt better because I did. How can sweat make you feel good? Roads were fine, but now we are having snow and wind. Who had the warm weather??? Give it the boot up here will ya!
Here's the recipe: Meat Loaf Pie
2 eggs
1/4 c chopped onion
1 c milk
1 3/4 c bread crumbs (I used stuffing mix)
1 t. salt
1/2 t rubbed sage
1/4 t pepper
1 1/2 lb ground beef
Mix all of the above in a bowl - press into the bottom and up the sides of a 9 in deep dish pie plate (I used a square dish) - ungreased
Bake 350 deg- 40 min - drain off any grease
1 box butter and herb mashed potatoes (I used both envelopes) make according to directions, stir in 2 t prepared mustard. Spread potatoes over baked meat dish, top with cheddar cheese - I used 1 c.
bake 3-5 min longer and let set 5 min.
next time I'll just make 'real' potatoes. It was tasty - just as good leftover!!
Now tonight I have nothing planned for dinner - I think it is DH turn! I'd just a soon have a grilled cheese, but he is a meat/potatoes kind of guy.
Maria, thanks for the heads up on mulch. We buy from a local joint and their prices have remained the same or a bit more for several years. I like to buy locally if possible.
Molly - fess up - what treasures did you come home with??
Even my seeds are being stubborn about sprouting this year..sob
suzieq2761, I'm a Mac persdon from waaaaay back. So ask away at questions.
A Mac place I use a lot is 'apple.com' then go to 'support' then 'discussions'. But Darius is here, and probably has a lot more experience than the people on the discussion forums.
How ya' doin Darius? You guys are sure going to town on building and planting. Would persimmons do well there ? Haven't heard how 'Shoe's tree is doing. Boy, I'd sure love to have a tree full of Hachia's in the backyard.
Well I got back from the rock store and unloaded the 375 lb. basalt column, 24" square cement slab and a couple basalt rocks for cover, all without mishap. Now to build the pond and wrestle that bighunk in place. The sunshine is fading and rainclouds coming in. May be better this weekend.
The meatloaf pie sounds great for breakfast Sarve. Might be a good choice for dinner tonight, with leftovers for breakfast!! DW is off to her meeting out of town the 18th so there's my chance to have a good Norwegian breakfast of lovely fishcakes and all the rest of the goodies. House should be aired out by the time she gets back. How she can like lutefisk and not fishcakes is beyond me, but then we don't have lutefisk for breakfast.
Just checked my seed list and there are 67 varieties so far, and another 60 from the NARGS second round selection. Things could get a little crowded this year, and we haven't even been to the Nursery yet ! HELP
Sarv, DR, and others doing the pounds off, good luck. My weight has a genetically coded return address and never stays away very long. Sure would like to shuck 60 pounds and leave a "do not forward" address on it.
Hoping all the ailing folks are healing and the kids quit their 'urping'. Time to get back to work.
Robert, that's an IMPRESSIVE array!
Thanks for all the compliments on my pics from everybody.
Sarv- The kids are now 5 and 8. I can really sympathize with Woofens, because mine are just the right age for that stuff too.
Hope everybody sick gets better soon. I've got a touch of the sinus thing myself, so maybe we can all eat some chicken soup for supper tonight and get some extra sleep.
Well, got to hurry for now. I have to take DD to basketball practice. She's only 5 and already has me running. Talk to everybody later.
Oh my I feel the need for pine-sol here...LOL kidding. T's and P's for every ones loved ones hope things are getting better soon for all. can't stay long too hard to type standing up. Tweeked my neck so I roam here and there trying to get comfy and not succeeding to well. Gotta find my wedding pic too. Take Care all and I may roam back thru.......Lauri
I just typed a big long howdy and nothing appeared...odd
Thanks Maria, I was probably watching my step so I wouldn't fall on my face! (DR, don't let the sweet expression fool you...) The wedding was nice but some of our friends who were there are divorced now and that makes me sad. Maria, we won't see a robin for quite a while, but the crows are still hanging out, keeping us company.
Suzie, I'm sure you'll get familiar with your new Mac in no time. I have a flat panel screen now and there's room for all three cats behind it with all the extra space. Not that they are allowed, but they still try.
Ann, did they send your DH home yet? They boot them out pretty quickly these days. Poor mothers get 24 hours (or less) after delivery, which I think is just awful. Next they'll have them squatting in the lobby. Sounds as if his case went well, and he should have a good recovery.
Sarv, your casserole sounds similar to a hamburger pie I used to make when the kids were small, Use the burger mix for the "crust", and mashed potatos for the filling, and run a tunnel of veggies around, and cover with either gravy or cream sauce. Cheap and easy. Haven't used the pkg potato mixes in forever, and don't plan to, unless they start tasting like real potatos..
Oz, you are an exceptional man, my ex wouldn't go near a sickie, a dirty diaper, or even a dirty dish, for that matter. That was *women's work* although he never objected to me bringing home a paycheck which was supposedly his work. He never had a problem spending it either!
Robert I was admiring your tiles until I saw your rocks and the column you picked up, it is absolutely gorgeous!!! How did you manage to move it?
Woofens, are the kiddies getting better.? They need to understand that the proper direction to go in for barfing is NOT towards their mother, but the bathroom or the bucket!! Tell them you can't make them NOT throw up! Is the boy still at home? What a tough situation for you. You've certainly given it your best shot, maybe this will teach him that there are consequences. I'm a firm believer in Tough Love. They'd probably throw me in the slammer in today's politically correct world.
Dmcd, that was my dream house too, a hose and a drain for clean up. Still isn't a bad idea.
DH is stuck in Detroit for another night due to their bad weather icing up the roads. Said he'd rather drive home in daylight. Can't say I blame him. Cats enjoyed sprawling all over the bed last night... can't say I did much to take advantage of my mini vacation, except I went to see Match Point, and stopped at a rib joint for a big slab of BBQ ribs. They're pretty good. Having the rest of them for dinner tonight.
Hey, did I tell you I have free long distance now with the digital phone service? I need phone numbers!!! Come on Maria, Elaine, Sarv, give 'em up!!
Dcat, I've found you can't rely on family members for accurate medical updates, everything they repeat is either altered or colored by their own experience or emotional reactions. And they keep passing it on so that someone else can add their misconceptions to it. It does sound as though they are treating your MIL properly, and we'll keep her in our thoughts.
Let's see, what else....oh, yeah, on behalf of those of us freezing our butts off while you are basking in temperatures over 65 degrees, "Shut Up". Thank you. Phew, that feels better.
OK, where's GG, Okus, Blooms WS, Ernie, etc??? Maybe busy and just lurking...so hello and
~~ to the rest of the gang.....here's your Sammi fix....note his exclusive possession of the coveted between-the-pillows spot, while Souky and Mini keep their distance to avoid surprise terrorist attacks. The bed is one of his favorite combat arenas. .
LOL Sheila!
You double posted!
Kids are getting better.. no heaving or the other end for a couple of hours. Tori is VERY weak. But better,has kept a couple popsicles down. Sarah hasn't been sick since ilike 2 AM, so hopefully.....
Neither one of the boys is sick yet, aor DH or me Keep prayin LOL
DS 15 is home, but we are waiting on his court papers to be served. He is also seeing a behavioral therapist. Onlt time will tell now. We told him we have done all we can, the next move is up to him... be it good or bad. The friend of his that was with him Sat night when the paroblems got out of control is also in BIG trouble, he set a garage on fine yesterday! What do these kids think of?
Will try to post to you all later got to find a chicken soup recipe.. been looking all day, nothin looks good
Hugs
Janis
Geesh, I hope I have not moved too far north. Don't want that barf flu to get me. I have only got that once in 30 years, in Florida because my sis's friend came down on the tail of it and brought it with her. Gave it to all of us. I think it's too hot down here to GERMinate properly.
Robert, I think persimmons must do really good down here because they are selling them everywhere. I haven't bought one yet. What is a persimmon anyway?
Oz, ya got me!!!!! :^))))))
Let's see, I have a written list of what I got at the last place yesterday, then the first place I will have to go on memory, the tags are out in the yard.
We got 5 Formosa Lavender Azaleas, 2 Pink Fountain Grass, 2 Miscanthus Japanese Silver, 2 holly ferns, 2 confed. Jasmine, one variegated, 2 east Indian holly fern. At the first place, 2 love grass, a couple other different miscanthus, LA Iris, a variegated hot pepper plant, 2 blue fescue grasses, Arizona Sun gaillardia, and a few herbs.
It's so nice out today. I sat in the arbor listening to the miriad of wind chimes thinking about the chores for tomorrow. I have a plan.
Molly
:^)))
Meeze, the postings are weirding out and we are all double blathering. It's okay.
Molly
:^)))
Janis the postings are reeeallllll slow tonite. Hope all goes better with your DS and he makes the right move and the others get better and you don't get it. Try chicken meat, chicken broth and fine noodles nothing to heavy. That is my DS's favorite when he is sick..LOL or healthy...Lauri
Sammi looks so much like the Chessie cat!!
