Thanks for the welcomes. It is 86 in big D right now. I am just lovin' it!
Coffee and...For Wednesday, MARCH 1, 2006 =^..^=
To NCgarden, yes it was warm here today. I think up to about 68. Coming home from the grocery, even switched on the air. Don't know if it was the weather or one of the female heat waves. The weather guy is just telling me that points north (mich, Ny, etc) are in for snow and ice. Hope you all can survive another one.
To those who are wondering. SPRING IS OFFICIALLY HERE IN PLEASUREVILLE, KY. I know, because DH went fishing today. So it is official, don't even consult the almanac|!! He caught some bass, but was really wanted the crappie.
See Darius, I know things before hand. Do you call that phychic. So do they get planted tomorrow?
Vann, so glad to here DH is doing well. Thanks for letting us know.
Sarv, don't let a little failure stop you from trying new recipes. I just love to read a cookbook, but have to have an idea that it will be good before I try it.
101 Really enjoyed our talk today too. Not being selfish, DMIL's situation has been going on so long, and your DF,s is new. So I understand.
Folks, I thank you all for thinking of DMIL. Word is that she is doing some better. As big as this family is, unless I am actually present and hear words from the Dr's mouth, I take each report with a grain of ______, fill in the blank. You know the game where you sit in a circle and tell the person next to you something, and by the time it finishes the circle the story, may or may not even resemble the original version. Well, this is what I am dealing with. Depending on which family member the news in a given day could be good/bad, she will be there XX number of weeks, she may be released by the weekend etc. etc. Since I have not seen her since Thursday, I really don't know. 101 and I were talking about this today. Some people are bad news junkies, and can't be happy unless there is bad news close to them. Some of DH's siblings are very pessimestic or negative, some do not have a clue, and some are so pollyanna, that they can't grasp the situation. Around here we call some folks like these DRAMA QUEENS!!.
I will probably visit the last of the week, and I will give you my true assessment of her situation. I think most of the problems are that not a one of this family understands medical terms, treatments etc. When something is wrong with me or my family members, I make it a point of becoming knowledgeable about the situation. Another problem, these people accept Dr's statements, without asking any kinds of questions.
Okay off my soap box now.
Well, I decided not to attend Bible study tonight. Have a stack of paperwork to be done, and then taking DM to a church meeting tomorrow.
So I am off to do some checkbook balancing, bill paying, filling trades, etc. Will check in later.
To those of you I did not address, I am waving~~ (just love that little symbol) Somebody explained it, it made sense, but I am calling it my wave symbol. So there.
Whew! I'm done baking and done cooking. I have supper in the oven and just staying warm until DH gets home from the base so we can take the food I've prepared and head over to Mum's for our every Wednesday evening supper with her. Along with the Stuffed Baked Sole (stuffed with shrimp), fresh asparagus with homemade hollandaise sauce, and baked potatoes. I made a fresh fruit salad and a baked rice pudding. Mum just adores a baked rice pudding or a baked custard. Sounds like a Scotswoman, doesn't she? LOL She only eats enough to feed a bird, but she savors every bite. I always make a portion for her that's smaller, but I try hard to make a good balanced meal for her. She's diabetic so I cook/bake with Splenda and try to keep her on track.
VAnn: I'm so grateful your DH has come through the surgery so well. Praise be!!! I'm sure you're rather relieved as well. I'm very happy the surgeon was able to maintain nerve integrity, he should have no problem with continence once he's healed up. Whisper the word "Kegel" in his ear and tell him it's his turn to perform them.
Robert: Happy Birthday!!!! I used to resent getting older, but you know, it beats the alternative of not getting older. I even tell the truth about how old I am. Don't I look good for having just celebrated the 26th anniversary of my 25th birthday last month?!? LOL Those tiles you've been making are fabulous. I'm intrigued. Your DW must be a happy lady having all these wonderful goodies you make in her home.
Maria: I'm blowing kisses your way, luvvie.
Sue-Z-Q: You're welcome to come for scones any day you want. I do so love them with clotted creme or butter and jam. My favourite are the cinnamon/toffee scones I make, but when there are fresh fruits to be had, I make them with fruit.
DCat: I'm chagrined. You're right. I'm a BAD Babs for not remembering to bake up more biscuits for Mum. I've made up for it hopefully. I made her a batch of the lemon biscuits and a batch of shortbread. I even used the new cookie stamp DH got me for Christmas :-)
To all the newcomers, welcome! You'll never find a warmer, kinder bunch than we have here in Coffee and..... They are the finest folks one could ever read about in VR. They each have something wonderful about themselves, they share themselves with others. It's a blessing and a gift, accept it and you'll be just as welcome as everyone else here.
To any others I may not have mentioned by name, never think you are any less thought of. I'm terrible about remembering every detail about things, so I send my apologies....Mea culpa.
The poochies are back to chasing each other through the house just now. I've got to get into gear and pack our supper up and get it ready to take to Mum's. I hope everyone has a wonderful evening and can enjoy their time with their families. Hugs to all.
With care, ~Babs~
*edited for a goofy mistake.....just chalk it up to my being a blonde......Oy vey!

Ann, so glad to hear DH's surgery was good. Hope recovery time is short and soothing.
Sorry Sarv, but I refuse any and all possible birthdays. The cake is a good idea though. Egg and toast- egg and toast-egg and toast!! What a boring breakfast. Sauteed fishcakes, pickles, cheese and bread sounds 'more normal', could toss in an egg too I guess. What's the world coming to? Egg and toast! LOL
Suzie, the "pizza box" is wonderful. That G-4 and huge monitor I used to have weighed a ton and took up huge ammounts of desk space. That little 'mini-mac sounds interestiing too.
Boy Darius, you guys are going to have a really fine garden and landscape. Keep up the great work, but don't overdo it.
Done for the day and it isn't even 4:00 yet. Got the fig stump out as well as the 4 azaleas and replanted 2 of the azaleas. Heavy work for an old fa**. Picture is the denuded corner where the basalt fountain will go. I gotta go fix a single malt, comb Tinker's rump, relax in the sunroom and figure out what to make for dinner besides asparagus. I'd wave to ya'll but my tilde is lost.
balvenie: I'll have a couple of fingers of Dalwhinnie in honour of your birthday after I return home from Mum's. I love a single malt scotch too, neat. My second favourite is Dalmore. I'm not too keen on the smokier scotches, but I have a litre bottle of Oban that I've never opened. Maybe someday I'll hop over to Marysville and drop it by. ~Babs~
Hi all
First time on the computer today, lots of catching up.
Ann~glad DH came through fine, will continue prayers for his complete and speedy recovery
defoecat~ I was scanning for news on DMIL but since we don't exactly KNOW what the news is, will just continue prayers for healing
carol and I01~prayers for the DFs healing as well, and carol, how is your son doing? I might have missed the news but please keep us up to date
For all those who have it WARM~ It was 22 when I went my jumping lesson this morning, but only 9 with the windchill. For the first time ever all the doors to the arena were firmly shut, so it did help a lot. I might not have ridden otherwise, or at least not for too long.
Still prayers for FC and family as well
sarv~my younger daughter Renee donated 10" of hair to Locks of Love 5 years ago. She had long thick hair, came out with a bubble cut (really cute) and the salon also gave her a manicure and one of the stylists ran out and bought her a mylar balloon. They made such a big deal out of it, she was thrilled, and I told her it WAS a big deal to contribute something so personal...it was really neat.
Maria~ I too enjoy your stories and loved your day-before-wedding photo. If you ever want to share more of the old photos, I'd be fascinated to see them. You have knowledge of all sorts of things I've never heard of (as well as those fabulous desserts).
bal~the tiles are beautiful!
welcome nc and trunnels
Mary~did you get to ride today? I so hope the little lamb gets nursing. Glad you're getting a break from all the deliveries
9kitty~ Could you send us a few degrees???Pretty please?? I'll send you some rain!
Robert, Love the tiles! (Even if it is NOT your birthday!)
Happy Birthday! Age is mind over matter... I don't mind so the age don't matter!
Sorry about the idiots getting so little time! I believe everyone gets what they deserve eventually! Hope you get to see them fall but please don't make yourself sick waiting around for it!
It took my lunchtime today and awhile tonight to catch up. Had to drive to Ohio and take DSM to dr yesterday. They think have caught early stages of breast cancer. Will have appts soon to do better rays and radiologist use a needle...
Not something I am looking forward to, for sure! She's 75, lost my DF in Sept 04 and is taking it very well.
Hmmm - I MUST set up my appt for mammogram!! Gotta hit the sack; I'm exhausted! Waves and hugs for all, esp (((Janis))) and (((Flower))).
Night all!! ~ Suzi :)
Hi everyone,
Okay, Happy Un-birthday, Robert! Hope you enjoyed the day anyhow.
Every positive thought I can manage to muster goes out to all the ailing ones. Vann, glad to hear that the surgery went well. Bonnie, hope the confusing reports are right this time and that your MIL is actually getting better. At least they did the tests instead of chalking everything up to the plausible anxiety attack theory.
Welcome to the new people. This is a good place to "hang out".
I haven't been keeping up on the cyber goodie side lately, but I made a "Swedish Apple Pie" the other day and it's nearly gone now. There's one serving left so it's up for grabs. I tried substituting 1/2 cup of olive oil and 1/4 cup of butter for the 3/4 cup of butter that was called for and it came out pretty good. My mother is supposed to be on a very low-fat diet and I figure it couldn't hurt DH and me to be on one as well.
FC, all I can say is that I'm very sorry for all you and your family have gone through.
There's been so much talking going on that I find myself not remembering more than a fragment here and there. Sorry!
I managed to get my mop of hair washed today and got a PITA jewelry repair finished (hurray!), but that's about all except for coming up with a kind of stir-fry type dish for supper. I didn't manage to get any seeds planted, which was the other project I hoped to start today. Oh well.
I don't mean to slight anyone that I didn't mention. I'm thinking of all of you and have read every post, but I'm tired and going kind of numb in the brain, I'm afraid. So, goodnight all ---- have a warm and restful one!
Greetings again,
Just checking in before I call it a night.
sarv - shall we have a competition to see who does the best at getting rid of some of the lard? Looks like we both have May objectives.
Elaine - glad to hear your dad got a good report from the Dr.
darius and all the rest of you in wawrm climes - I'm jealous. Will be at least another few weeks before the snow melts here.
Defoe - interesting account of how family news travels.
My sister e-mailed on hearing of the surgery today and wondered about updating family medical histories. It's amazing how much we don't know. Even about our parents. And I'd have to say DH's parents were the same. They didn't share a lot of information.
Babs - Stuffed Baked Sole (stuffed with shrimp), fresh asparagus with homemade hollandaise sauce, and baked potatoes. Would you like to come and cook for me? Mouth watering. Do you have local aparagus yet? I'll definitely whisper "Kegel". Don't think he did them as well as he should have before the surgery.
I'm also with you in preferring to admit to my age (in most cases). A computer guru in my high school class has set up and Internet mail list for our class. Not a lot of traffic on it, but now and then it crackles to life and it certainly did the year we all turned 60. And we concluded that, as you said, it's a whole lot better than the alternative.
I also enjoy single malt Scotch. A couple of years ago, we spent about 10 days in Scotland and made a point of ordering two different single malt Scotches each evening and testing them thoroughly. Noting the flavour, adding water and tasting again and making copious notes which DH may still have some where. But we did conclude that we weren't too fond of Islay Scotch. Too peaty for our tastes. Maybe I'll have one before bed.
Got a bit of yarn today for the new afghans for the grand twins. Must remember to take a pic of the nearly finished one. I'll get to another yarn store tomorrow which is near DD's house.
Had a call from the hospital this evening (after visiting hours) saying DH had been up, was thoroughly bored and doing really well. We had agreed that I wouldn't trek way across town to the hospital this evening unless he requested it, but maybe I should have done. (That decision was confirmed when I spoke to the Dr. earlier. He didn't think DH would really want any visitors.) Anyway, sounds like he'll be out of the constant care unit and in a room by the time I get there. visiting hours start at 11:30. won't have too long because I'll have to get the twins from their baby sitter by 12:45 to go to Kindermusik. I'll check on what time they let me visit in the afternoon - they seem to have strange hours. I also have bell practice at 6 tomorrow as well and we play on Sunday evening for a special service.
Anyway, was up really early this morning. Think I'll turn in a bit earlier than usual.
Ann
Nice to hear such good news Ann. Very sorry to hear that Sarv fell off the Weird Breakfast wagon and ate such a boring meal. Babs, do some baking for me, I just cleaned the range and I don't want to get it all crudded up again.
HI, trunnels, long time no see. Grab a cuppa, and find somewhere to sit. The kitchen is pretty crowded these days, there are so many coffee lovers.
I'm so sleepy I'm sagging, ~~~~~~~~~ to everybody, I'll catch up in the morning.
Sheila
Hello again everyone.
VAnn, I'm glad to hear the good report on your husband. He will be more than ready to come home when the doctor finally releases him.
Family medical history is sketchy here too. I do know at least what my parents died from. Not sure about the grandparents, like some of yours, the family didn't talk much about illness.
Babs, that sounds like a tasty dinner. I bet your Mum looks forward to Wednesday all week.
Dieters, go for it, we'll cheer you on!
I don't try to hide my age or my gray hair or wrinkles. It's all natural stuff and I have never been into pretending about anything, so what you see is what you get.
Darius, could anyone here have predicted that Molly would not come home with plants? Not likely! Have fun planting! You've made so much progress there in such a short time.
Yes, I did go riding today. The recent rain was just enough to make things very slick out there so I spent a bit of time riding cross country just picking our way through the sagebrush without trails, climbing a lot of hills at a walk in the mud is great exercise. I saw a badger who was waddling through the brush, he had seen us first and they would rather be hiding. He was not far from where I saw one last year. We also saw a lot of deer, several groups of 10 or so, and a few lone ones standing in the sagebrush not moving with just their heads showing. We have mule deer here, they are much larger than the ones in other parts of the country.
I didn't go to the barn today although I did ride past it on my way home, so no update on the lamb. Sometimes they just figure it out all of a sudden, we can only hope this one does. If I had seen anyone outside when I rode by I would have asked, but they were busy inside. I was getting quite cold by then, the wind was blowing pretty hard and the sun was behind the clouds so it was chilly. Really it never was very warm, but it was warmer than dmc had for her jumping lesson.
Time has gotten away from me and I need to get some sleep. So far I am keeping up.
Well, after spending several hours dealing with bill paying, and balancing check books, I am back. I found that a CD that I purchased 3 weeks ago has not been deducted from one account and has not shown up on another. So a trip to the bank tomorrow is mandatory. I don't mind losing a few dollars, but this is big bucks, and I want an accounting of where it is.
M5, I am with you, I have been feeling so bad all day, knowing that Sarv had eaten a traditional breakfast. Wonder if she had a Traditional day? LOL I live for her to post what breakfast was, so I can try to avoid it!!
To those of you who enjoy a wee dram, bottoms up. I don't drink the hard stuff, but certainly am tolerant when one wants to partake.
Babs, didn't mean to make you feel guilty about dear mum's biscuits, hehehe, but got you in gear didn't it? That meal sounds so DELISCIOUS. Can I join you on any given Wednesday to help you eat all that good stuff. Heaven forbid that you have leftovers that you needed to store!! You are a good daughter.
Vann, sounds like your schedle tomorrow would give a secretary fits. Be here, then there, Yikes how do you keep up with it?
Bal, would you come on down here, I have some bushes that need to be moved, and I am so little and weak that I can't do it by myself. LOL.
Mary, glad you got that ride in today. Hope that tonight is a slow one, and that you get lots of sleep.
McCool, major job washing the mop? Why don't you post a pick and let us see what you deal with?
Briar, sorry about DSM, hope all turns out well. Now girls, let us not get so busy that we put off our annual check ups. So important.
dmc, yes, just keep on praying. DH went this afternoon, and since I have been married to him for 41 years, I think I can trust his judgement, he said that she is much better. As I said, I will go and see for myself the last of the week. Yikes, the last of the week is almost here.
Would you believe that our temps got up to 74 this afternoon. Coming home from the grocery, I even turned on the air in the car. Didn't realize it was that warm, just thought it was the flashes again!!
Well, I am about ready to turn in. Tomorrow, taking DM to a church meeting and pot luck. We are meeting in the home of a new member, and am anxious to see her place. She is a manager on a horse farm, and she is beginning to have foals, so she warned us in advance, that she may have to excuse herself to check on any mares in labor.
Well, to those I didn't address, don't take offense, it just may be the brain fatigue from wrestling with all those figures earlier or it may be something more serious. But hey, I am not gonna worry about it. If I suddenly loose mental facilities, I probably won't know it. You all may, but not me!!
Night All.
Ann, I am glad to hear the good report on your DH.
Mary, your life sounds wonderful. Lot of work I guess, but enjoyable most of the time. LOL
I attempted to uncover a patch of flower bed that was buried under way too thick a pile of leaves. Using only my left hand, I thought I was going to die after going about two feet. LOL My back was breaking, the left thumb ached and the whole left arm hurt. How in the heck am I going to take care of 3 acres of garden like this. ugh... BUT, I found a ton of crocus trying to get their heads above the leaves and even the echenacia is sprouting. I didn't get all the leaves off, but enough that they can develop now I think.
Bonnie, I want your DMIL to be better so bad. I have memories all the time of my DMIL when she finally had hospice. I loved her like she was my DM, wonderful woman. Still keeping your DMIL in my prayers.
dmc, I would love to send you about 20 degrees for 5 or 6 inches of SLOW rain. LOL or even more degrees if you want.
Maria, I love your stories and your pictures. You warm my heart every time.
Better go get tomorrow's daily up for you guys.
We are cooling off from our 89 º chance of rain (yeah right) holding my breath (yeah right) LOL
Already miss my little gnome visitor Hinne. Boy that visit was over quick.
Have a dentist appointment tomorrow at 3 and then PT at 4:45. May have 45 minutes in between to goof around somewhere. Hobby Lobby????? Maybe a local garden nursery, hummmmmm which do you think???
Susan
=^..^=
Here is the daily for tomorrow, hope everyone has a blessed day.

Thank you all for your hugs and prayers. It definately is cheering to see that there are still people who care about others in the world. (((((everybody)))))
We did some shopping today and that helped to cheer me up too. We bought a new lawnmower which was very needed. Our old one was starting to blow black smoke out the side, so we decided it was time to retire it. Also bought some new anti virus and spyware program, so it has been tying up the computer most of the day running scans.
It's kind of late, but I made chocolate chip muffins today if anybody wants some. Maybe good for breakfast in the morning. Calorie free for the dieters!!
I loved reading about everybody's weddings. There were some really interesting stories. I thought mine was low cost, but you all have me beat. Mine happened in 2000, though, so maybe I can mark the cost up to inflation. We spent less than $5000 for both the wedding and the honeymoon, so I guess it wasn't too bad since we stayed in a cabin in Gatlinburg for a week. I'm a little late, but I thought I would share some pics with everyone. This first one is my DH and me.
kittymom, I vote for the nursery. Hurry and do all the therapy, so you will be able to get out and garden soon. Thanks for your thoughts and prayers for DMIL. She is a super lady, and said the other day, that I would do more for her than some of her daughters. Now that is a compliment.
FlowerChild, you look radiant. And so young. Thanks for the muffin, I have taken one for tomorrow morning.
defoecat, thank you. I put some other pictures up on tomorrows link already. I'm never sure where to post at this time of night since I'm not sure who else is still up.
