Ann, that was the best information I could ever receive about prostate cancer infection. I had actually wonder if he had a virus or flu-type thing. So am cutting and pasting what you wrote and sending to my dad via e-mail. Thanks so so so so much! I had spent time the past couple days looking up things about prostate cancer and can't find much about the PSA level go sky rocket fast.
But we all went to his doc. It was actually kind of funny. My mom, my sister, and me along with my dad entered the room. The look on the doc. face was kind of funny tho. But we are all very concerned so....
He was a GP doc today. Dad wanted to find out more about what was going on plus about his diabetics too.
My dad has an appt. with an onocologist on March 6.
So we shall see what is going on real soon.
It seems like a lot of people here needs lots of prayers and good thoughts. I do send all mine everyone's way!!!

For a good note, I stopped by Balvenie (Robert) tonight on the way back down to Oregon. Had a very good visit with him and his sweet wife. He needs to post pictures of the neat tiles he has made at a class he is taking. They look great!
Came home to some tulips, daff., and hyanthics (sp?) blooming already. So that was kind of neat to see after being gone for 6 days.

So hope everyone here has a good day today (even tho it is midnight here and am writing so late).

Good Morning Everyone!

VAnn, I'll be thinking about your dh today.

Wow - the first to post other than the REAL early birds?

Well, maybe, I guess. Depends on how long I keep typing.

Good weather helped ensure good traffic as I drove DH to the hospital and myself back. His surgery is scheduled for 9 - 1 EST. They don't recommend that I hang around the hospital and I'm just as happy not to do so. Biggest challenge so far was getting out of the hospital parking lot which took my paid parking chit, opened the gate and then closed it again before I had time to drive out. Had to go find a security person to let me out.

I plan to go to aqufit and in to the FC to volunteer and the Dr. will phone me when surgery is done. We are all thinking that DH may not really want a visitor today, but he will let me know if he does. It's about 27 km over to the hospital; so I'm not going to be flitting back and forth, but rather will go when wanted and/or needed.

Carol, keeping fingers crossed for your DF. Good to have an appointment fairly soon. If it turns out to be prostrate cancer, there are a variety of treatment options depending on the health and age of the patient. There are good books and a number of web sites with lots of information too. Prostrate cancer does not generally progress quickly; so there is time to educate yourself and make the appropriate choices of treatment.

Hope you all have a good day.

Happy Birthday, Robert, many, many healthy ones more

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

Happy Birthday Robert - let's see your cake...I'm sure it is beautiful!!

I was here much much earlier, but couldn't connect- drat computer or someone!!! Do you know how this throws a moneky wrench into my day! I have a regular routine - get up, turn on the computer, use the facilities, grab something to eat and sign on....

Oh well, better late than never! I have nothing planned today - gonna do the routine pick up stuff, plant some more seeds etc. I started some mexican sunflowers - says they are easy to start and I've had no germination, so I'm trying some more. Anybody every tried these? They are orange and bushy when grown and flower non stop for me.

Been watching the 'locks of love' thing on the today show (where they cut off 10 in of hair for those that need wigs) What a wonderful thing to do. If my hair wasn't so thin, I might try it!!

Defoe - I cannot believe that guy didn't get any jail time. He took a life for heavens sakes!!! Something is not right!! Here is one thing that I don't understand. Here where I live, a man killed a police officer and has had the book thrown at him - jail time etc. But at the same time someone else kills a human and no jail time. It sounds a if they are putting move value on one life than another - I don't feel that is fair. (off the soap box)

Well, I am allowing myself only 15 more min. on line. so I am gonna bamboose for now!

GM everyone!

DH is off to work, I'm up and about and the poochies are chasing each other through the house. First of the morning ritual for them.

VAnn: I'm praying for DH and sending all my strength your way. I'm sending prayers up for the surgeon and staff to be guided well as they work on your DH's behalf. I'm also crossing everything I can cross (eyes, fingers and toes) as I wish to leave no avenue open for ill luck.

MG: Yep, you're the early bird today, so you get the worm! LOL

DR: I'll be praying for your Da that all goes well with him.

M5: I hope the cable guy is at least cute (wink). If he's not, then let's hope he doesn't have plumber's crack to make the issue worse. LOL

Maria: I have to say this. From what I've read over the last few months of belonging to DG, I have to admit I agree whole-heartedly with the sentiment that you are an elegant LADY. I so enjoy your posts. I think often how eloquent your statements are and how much I admire your strength. I am grateful you can share your pictures with us and give us a glimpse into your life. I know how much you must miss your DH, but please, never stop giving us the blessing of his love for you. I read it in every post you mention him in and I'm happy you can look back at your life and realize he's still with you and always will be. ((((hugs))))

I have to hop into the shower once the bathroom is warmed up. I have to make a commissary run this morning and pick up a few things. It's Wednesday and I make supper for Mum, DH and I. She called last night, asked what we were having for supper today and I told her, "Baked Stuffed Flounder" with fresh asparagus and rice pilaf. She asked if I would be sure to bring her some lemon biscuits as she hasn't had any with her tea in a few days. Oy vey, I feel like a heel. I usually make enough dough when I mix up a recipe that I freeze the extra and bake her biscuits each week, but I messed up. I've been working so hard on getting my lectures ready for the first time ACLS takers that I FORGOT to bake Mum some biscuits. Poor Mum has had to resort to packaged biscuits with her afternoon tea! Ack!!!! I did manage though to score some wonderful burp-less cucumbers at COSTCO on Saturday, so I'll have plenty for the Comfort Keeper lady to make Mum her cucumber and creme cheese sammies.

Well, I'm off to mix up a batch of scones. I have some fresh blueberries I picked up at COSTCO too and I've been hankering for some scones. DH has been nagging too and since he's leaving for Japan in the wee hours of Friday morning, I'll make some fresh scones for he and the skipper's trip to Seattle to catch their flight. I told my next door neighbour I'd bring over some scones this morning, so I'll get after that soon as I shower. I guess I'll be baking for the next couple of days.

Take care everyone, I send my heartiest wishes for each of you to have a marvelous day. With care, ~Babs~

*edited for typos....."Oy vey!"....*heavy sigh*

Good morning everyone. Just popping in while I have a chance. I'm getting a new computer here at work today. Guy is supposed to be here to set it up between 11 and 1. It's supposed to be smaller so it won't take up so much desk space.

Forcast this morning is calling for rain/ice in the early morning hours. Yipee (NOT) I would rather have a foot of snow.

Defoe - That's unbelievable. Only one night in jail! It's no wonder our crime rates are so high. Criminals have nothing to be afraid of if they are caught.

Babs - Love scones. Made them for the first time this christmas and they were good. GIve mum a little squeeze for us. She sounds like such a cutie. Send us a picture if you can. If you did earlier, sorry, I missed it.

VA - Will be keeping DH in thoughts and prayers today.

Susan - Glad to hear the PT is going well.

Gotta get back to work hope to be back later.

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

Babs, a special thanks for telling me how you feel about what I post and of course every one else who has been so very kind with their response.

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Hi There,

Happy Birthday, Robert.

Just popped in from aquafit. You know it's cold when your hair freezes before you get to the car. LOL Have to get it dry and then head in to the Food Cupboard. No news is good news at this point. Surgery was scheduled to have begun at 9 and continue until about 1. Everyone says the Dr. is very fine; so we are hoping for the best.

Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers.

Albany, OR(Zone 8a)

Ann, I am thinking of you today too. Hope the sugery goes well. My father does have prostate cancer and has been taking that lupin? (hormorone) shot for 4 years. He gets to feel our "hot" flashes, hehe, he loves them. He may just be progressing with that cancer. So far, no pains like for bone cancer tho.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ROBERT! You should have told me last nite! Hope you have a great day. It is sunny down here so hope it is up there so you can work outside.
I want to tell all about your beautiful wood carving. I got to see it! It is great! It is like 1 1/2' wide and about 10' long. So much beautiful carving on it all.

Babs, those blueberry scones sound so good right now. With it being winter, frozen blueberries are so nice to have to use.

BUT

I am going to be grumpy the next 2 months. I have decided that I am going to lose weight to get into that swimsuit! So to lose the next 8-10 pounds is going to be tough for me. It doesn't sound like much but for a person who is only 5 feet tall, it is alot for me.
So am going to cut my eating and either work in the yard more (tho is hard when it gets dark soon after getting home from work) or walking EVERY DAY!!! Rain or shine!
I am not fat but have a good roll now on my tummy and my butt needs to be trimmed down quite a bit!
So you guys have to push me.

Have a good day everyone!
Carol (DR)

Hi all
Looks like I just can't get here any earlier anymore. LOL

Ann, am sending prayers that all goes well for your DH. He's probably already had his surgery by now ... but hope his recovery is uneventful.

Robert ... did I hear someone say birthdday? .... well happy birthday to you!!

Babs, give your Mum a group hug from us. It would probably surprise her to know she's a member of a coffee group on a computer chat group. LOL

Suzie ... ~~~ hope you like your new work computer.

Maria, I agree with what everyone else has said. The love you and your DH had for each other shinds in all your posts and that in itself is such a testimony to what an elegant LADY you are. I couldn't see your beautiful picture, but one doesn't need to see a picture to see that. You have a remarkable gift for writing. Many hugs to you.

Dr. please know that your Dad is in my thought and prayers especially now. I hope you get the information needed along with treatment options. This day and age ... even though we're the information society ... I think it's difficult sometimes.

Well, I know others have posted since I started this, but I've just *got* to get up, so I'm not going to preview. Will just wave ~~~ for now. Hugs to all I've not mentioned. Please know I'm sending prayers to you Kelly, Woofens, Flower, Defoe and anyone else I may be forgetting in this senior moment. :)

Sorry, forgot earlier, HAPPY BIRTHDAY ROBERT!

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Hey, Robert's home DG page lists his birthday as February 31... pulling our leg(s)??

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

lol, Robert, are you one who has a real birthday only every four years?

If that's the case ... then he's *too* young to be in coffee!!! LOL LOL

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Happy birthday Robert!! Have a wonderful day, and enjoy every minute. Lucky DR got to see your carving up close!

None of us would worry about a weight problem, if we had to generate the power to our computers via treadmill or bicycle! Wouldn't that be fun? Puff, type, puff type puff.....etc. No exercise, no computer! I have lots of good ideas which never get put into effect.....wonder why...LOL

The cable guy turned out to be a cute, competent, energetic little blonde female, accompanied by a guy she was training, and a third joined the party. With all the knowledge, they did manage to get everything up and running properly, sure am glad I'm not having to pay for these service calls.

DH is off to Detroit. Won't be back until tomorrow night, late, so today I'm hitting a movie, a lunch at a BBQ rib joint, which should provide leftovers for tomorrow. If I can swing this with no cooking at all it will be perfect! Tomorrow night I might be going to a sort of anniversary party with my DIL and DS, maybe, not sure yet. It's a local radio station and the morning hosts have been together on air for twenty years so they are having a big shindig, and DH is hoping to snag an extra ticket for me.

MG, I hope you are putting that worm in your garden, and not just carrying it around to show your friends and family what a prize you won.

Dcat, and FC, those are tragedies, for sure. Most miscreants like those continue the same way and usually have miserable lives because the guilt will eat away at them, even if it doesn't show. There is no justice for the loss of a loved one, no amount of prison time is enough. I think a memorial garden is a lovely remembrance, and could bring some peace of mind.

Did someone turn up the thermostat? I am having one heat wave after another this morning....whew....off with the shirt, on with the shirt, gimme a break!

I'm like Sarv, that's my morning routine too, turn on the computer, get my coffee, waste an hour or two, then get dressed. Because I got interrupted by cable maintenance this morning, I took all the grates, etc. off the range top and gave them a good scrub, loaded the dishwasher, and then I quit because I didn't want to over do the cleaning stuff .....LOL

Later

Thank you for the birthday wishes, but it isn't my birthday. Quit recognizing it many years ago. Body may be old and feeble but the mind (what's left of it) is still young.

Such a treat to have Carol stop by on her long trek home.I hope next time there will be daylight and a chance to stay longer. Hoping for good results with DF's testing and treatment. Just read the other day that a course of action for treatment in older guys (gee, is that me already?) for some stages of prostate cancer is no treatment at all due to its slow growth rate.

In addition to her visit the other good news is the tiles are out of the kiln. Layering Ozaki green over Vincent's Starry Night was supposed to result in a much different color.Thickness and eveness of the dips is all-important, and I were'nt very good at it. Only two more to go, hope they will match.

Babs, becha' didn't know there is a neat little Tea Shop in Marysville. Not Miss Cranston's Tea Rooms, but a nice break from Starbuck's. Your scones and biscuits sound delicious.

What's for breakfast Sarve ? I've found some leftover yellow split pea soup with hamhock, and a couple hardboiled eggs. Time to put gardening shoes on and get back to digging up the last three 20 year old Azaleas before the rains start again. At least the ground is soft.

Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)

Good morning/almost afternoon. The weather is sunny today, not windy or freezing and I'm going riding unless a nasty storm gets here first. Yesterday I saw another one coming at us but the satelite picture was showing it over southeast Alaska where our son was not enjoying it. I tell you, that is a very stormy place to live, and I am glad I don't live there anymore.

No new lambs last night so I made 2 quick runs to check them and got a lot of sleep. The weak lamb is with his mother but still being tube fed and they are hoping he figures out how to suck. He stands there, pokes her udder with his nose and even when somebody puts the teat into his mouth and squirts a bit of milk in there he doesn't try to suck. Sad. He must be brain damaged from a difficult delivery, he was a breach birth. The ewe is so good and patient, she loves him and stands like a statue waiting for him to drink.

VAnn, adding my good wishes and prayers for your hubby.

For those of you whose lives have been personally effected by serious crimes, the laws vary from state to state, but the amount of prison time sometimes depends on the circumstances, for instance, premeditation, or as part of another crime, the use of a gun, negligence, etc. Sometimes the trial is by jury, other times the defendant waives his right to a jury trial and the judge decides, sometimes there is a plea bargain where the defendant pleads guilty to a lesser charge and it is accepted by the court to keep from having a very expensive trial (some counties just can't afford a big one with transportation and housing costs for a lot of witnesses, etc) and sometimes the evidence is not strong enough to insure a conviction on more serious charges. I know it is sometimes confusing and heartbreaking for the victims families, but that is our system. We can work for better laws and vote into office judges that favor giving the maximum sentences.

Oh my Babs, blueberry scones sound wonderful. Your poor mum, having to eat packaged biscuits with her tea, she will appreciate the home baked ones (baked with love) from you even more now.

Gotta go now. Here's a wave for everyone I missed (most of you). ~~~ Back later.

Bloomingdale, OH(Zone 6a)

My apologies! I saw you had listed 2/31 as your day and I thought it was a joke, so I picked it up and ran with it.

Happy Un-Birthday to You!!

Hi all. I lurk over here whenever I have a minute because I love reading all of the things you so lovingly share. You are one brave lady. :-)

Ahhh, just listened to the Overture to Rienzi on the radio, which I haven't heard for years. Took me right back to playing the bassoon for it in high school! (Please note: I AM NOT musical, just have a fondness!) : )

Molly and Jeremy have gone to Orlando for the day, and to my envy, also visiting a large and well known nursery. Sigh.

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Hey Darius!! I saw your name pop up and wanted to say HI!! Florida still treating you well? I hope so!! Don't forget you have a place to stay if you want to come for a visit!! I won't be doing the GA Roundup this year but hopefully we can at least see each other this fall.

I have been a LAZY gardener this season so far.... No seeds started, finally pruned, and still have about half my grasses to cut down.. SIGH.

I bet you are in gardening HEAVEN in FL though huh? :)

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Nicole, Thanks. I have to schedule another CT Scan in early May in Asheville. What's the driving time from you to there?

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Well, I was going to start my post by wishing Bal Happy Birthday, but don't guess I will. Since we don't really know when it is, what the heck "happy birthday anyway.

Vann, have your DH in my prayers today.

DR, your DF too.

New computer Susieq, that is great. Hope you get used to it soon.

Mary, have a good ride.

Meezer, when you said a cute blond, I just knew it was going to be a girl!! Didn't have to see the plumbers crack.

Sarv, don't you just hate it when your day starts off wrong, even something little like that just throws me off.

Babs, get to baking, can't believe you are treating our dear mum like that!.

Morning gayle, love the quote. So clear???

Maria, thanks for steering Trunnels our way.

NC garden, good to see you too.

Darius, when Molly and Jeremy get back, please have the spades out and ready, cause you all are going to be planting again.

101, what's slowing you down in getting here early? Sleep clock messed up.

Well, I am waving to everybody else, just got back from the grocery, and need a bite to eat.

I'll be back.

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Hi defoecat! Is it as warm in KY as it is here today? WOW!! It's awesome!!

Darius - I swear I think it's 4 hours. However it always takes me longer than everyone else!! HA!!
Maybe you will swing somewhat close to me ? No biggy if not - I'm not going anywhere! And you go EVERYWHERE so it's just a matter of time! LOL!!

Hope the scan goes well!

Hey my new computer is here. It's not hooked up yet, but sitting on the desk next to mine. They call it the pizza box because that's about the size of it. Looks like a pizza box on a stand, LOL. I will try to bring in my camera tomorrow to show you pics. Can't believe something so small can hold so much. Now I have a big monitor and a tower. I will have soooo much more desk space.

Hi to the two new people who popped in.

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Hi Everyone,

The good news is that DH's surgery is over. The Dr. called me at the FC and said everything went well. He was able to spare all nerves and it was basically a textbook case. He'll be in hospital until Monday morning, most likely. Thanks to all who held him in your prayers.

Welcome to 2 newcomers. Glad to see that people are talking over here. This was the ONLY thread that I'm following which had any action today. (Maybe I should be following a few new ones).

Mary, glad you got a good sleep for a change. Hope that weak lamb comes through OK.

suzieq2761, congrats on the new computer. Hope you get it set up faster than I have. Mine is three weeks old and I"m still using the old one for Internet. My music notation program for which I ordered an upgrade came today though. But I'll have to get Internet working soon to be able to register everything.

VA - So glad to hear everything went well for DH. I don't set the compouter up myself. Still waiting for Steve the MAC guy to come over to my office to set mine up. We got 3 new computers for the office. Mine will be the last one set up. At this point probably won't get to use it until tomorrow :(

Bal - too bad. We've declared today as your birthday - suck it up man...that's what you get for being so secretive..You still owe us a cake, so you better get a baking! By the way I had a normal breakfast- egg and toast-

Scones, who is making scones. Oh I wish I could have one....I don't dare make a batch as I would eat them all. DR - I will be your diet partner- my lard needs to go down a few pounds too. I have a wedding out in Philadephia the end of May and I would like to look slimmer. I'll get weighed tomorrow morn - you do the same.

Thinking of everyone having surgery - hope it is quick and painfree.

Oh poo Darius, couldn't you ride along??? I hate being stuck at home when everyone else is plant shopping. At least you got to listen to some decent music!

Mary, what do you do with a mentally impaired sheep? Will it ever get the hang of sucking?

M5- lucky you with DH traveling!! I wouldn't fix a meal either! I've been freezing all day - east wind... I'll take an extra hot flash or two. Glad to hear the cable stuff got repaired - takes a good woman to show a man how to do it (excuse me Robert!!)

I got a new Quick cooking annual book in the mail today - so I'm off to try a new recipe. It was my goal to try one new recipe a week -haven't been keeping up...had such a failure on Sun, that I have cold feet about trying again!

See ya later!!!

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

Vi - good news on the DH - phew...glad it is all over for him..

Excuse me for being rude: WELCOME to nc and trunnels. Tell us all about yourself and pull up a seat at the table. There's a plate of fresh scones somewhere....

VAnn ... so so glad to hear all went well with your DH. *sigh* Am holding both of you close in my prayers.

Have talked to my sis and also Dad this p.m. and am relieved that Dad got a good report from the doctor today. His white count is still below 11 and will have to expect some fatigue and easy bruisibility ... but he'll be followed closely, and for now there is no indication for treatment ... which I am *thankful* for. PTL

Hi Darius Am waving ~~~ and hoping you'll stop by when you go back north for your next test. You *do* sound soooo relaxed down there goofing off while Molly is gone. *evil grin*

Hi Defoe ... I enjoyed our talk today ... and am sorry I didn't ask about your MIL. Think I was being a bit selfish today with Dad on my mind. :-( Am sending hugs her way.

Mary, how is the poor little lamb doing? I keep wondering if he is okay. Did you get to go for a ride?

Babs, whew ... you'll need a break after all that baking. Aren't you glad you didn't turn into a wet noodle and opt for that extra nursing duty? :)

To all the rest ... am waving for now ... must get up from here. I don't have to cook as I have left over's to pull out tonight. *clapping hands* ... but I still need to make an appearance that I've accomplished *something* today. LOL LOL
Hugs to all

Bonnie (Defoecat) you are absolutely correct! Molly just called and said she has a van full of plants but still room for more IF she sees another nursery!

Didn't do much today but water, loaf a bunch and draw plans for a building permit for a screened porch.

Elaine, I'm sure I can arrange to stop by going north in early May!

Suzie, which new MAC did you get? I have a dual G4 but hesitate to upgrade although I'd LOVE a laptop for travelling!
