Flower, what a shock to see him driving when you thought he was still in jail. I agree that 4 years was not enough time, neither would 8 years have been but he was probably sentenced according to the limits of the law. My opinions are very strong about such things, my hubby is a retired cop who now works as investigator for the district attorney. The other thing is that this fellow will trip himself up quite soon I think. As a convicted felon he cannot be in posession of a firearm, has to report to his parole officer, etc. and when he fails to comply with the rules he can be put right back in prison to serve the rest of the sentence. I can only guess what you are feeling with the loss of your sister and now this.
I'm thinking it would be nice if you could make some type of memorial garden for her. Ask your dad if you could have some or all of the ashes to do that with, plant a tree and some flowers that she liked or at least some in her favorite colors, add bird feeders or statues that she would have liked, and have something positive to fill the void a bit. What do you think?
Hugs to you and my prayers too.
Coffee and...for Tuesday, February 28, 2006, =^..^=
Mary the laws are rediculous. sometimes you think the law is made to help the bad guys. I have several retired police around here that i know including the former Chief of Kansas City. But I do wish sometimes you could open season on these people and get rid of a few. I know that is what happens to some drug dealers that wind up found dead on the street. People have a right to protect there home and loved ones. My wife was threatened by a relative who was in a mental hospital. Well they let him out and had him in a halfway house on the other side of the state. He just disappeared and was suppose to be heading beck to St Louis to "GIT" his family. A police Lt came out and talked to us. I told him if he showed up I would shoot him as soon as he became threatening. He said just make sure you drag whats left of him in the house and you will be home free.
Well, folks back from the mystery dining experience. This was a Long Horn steak house, and had the most delicious meal. Peppercorn, portbello fillet, luscious salad, baked potato, and a huge apple dumpling kind of thing. I ate 2 bites of it and the rest is sitting on my counter. This dessert would feed 6 people!!
Mary, I second the idea about making a memory garden. Flower Child are you listening?
I really don't have all this super energy. But I can only go so long without knowing that my house is clean. For most of the year, I dust and run the sweeper, and keep the cobwebs knocked down, but then, I just need to know that all the cobwebs under the furniture is gone, that the windows are clean, the curtains are taken down and laundered, the baseboards wiped and spots on walls are erased, and the carpets cleaned. I have hired help before, but have not found the person that works to my standards. Not that picky, but I want someone who cleans BETTER than I do during the year. I don't want to pay someone to do the same things I do during the year!!
Flower Child, I know just how you and your family feel. Let me relate an abbreviated version of something that happened in DH's family in November 1973. It was the beginning of deer season, matter of fact opening day. DH and of his brothers, 2 BIL's and 3 friends had been hunting on his grandfather's farm. Don't know deer hunting that well, but evidently the best times of day are early morning, and late afternoon. So they were camped around a barn, and for recreation was playing quarter ante poker. DH had come home to feed livestock, so wasn't there at the time. An argument broke out between DH's oldest brother and his BIL, a hot head, who was only tolerated because of the marriage to DH's sister. It was started over who had anted up, with all saying that they had. Well the hot head BIL, grabbed his gun, threatened DH's brother, who also had a temper, and one thing led to another and BIL shot and killed DH's oldest brother. DH' brother did not have his gun with him, there were 5 witnesses, and to make a long story short, when brought to trial, it was ruled manslaughter, and 5 years probation given. The only jail time the guy did was that night and the next day, when bail was arranged. You wouldn't believe the turmoil it caused within the family. There was talk about finding him and doing something to him, but as far as I know, no one ever said or did anything. I was grocery shopping about 2 months ago, when I rounded a corner, and came face to face with him. He dropped his head, went past me without saying a word. He still lives in the same county, but seldom see him. He has been in trouble several times over the years, even shot his brother's ear off several years ago. I know that he lives a miserable life, and maybe that is God's punishment for him.
So I guess the lesson that this family learned, is take the high road, you just have to rise above the trash and scum that inhabits this earth. Forgiveness is necessary, but it does not come easily or quickly. As I said time heals all wounds.
Now to say, DR, sorry that your dad is having problems of a different nature. Hope he goes to the uriologist and follows his orders carefully. As Vann said, prostrate cancer has a very good rate of successful treatment.
Vann, hugs and prayers for your DH as his surgery approaches Monday.
101, now am adding your DF to my list of persons to pray for.
Maria, Just wanted to say, wow you were a beauty, and I am sure that time has only softened those features, and that you are an elegant, dignified lady, with a girlish inner self.
Well, I didn't get to comment on all posts, as the night is quickly fading. Keyi, Sarv, M5, DR, Oz, dmc, darius, susieq, Babs, lauriewilson, kittymom, I am letting you know that I have read all, but I have almost used up my quota of words for the day. So am waving ~~~ frantically to you all. Will try to catch up more tomorrow. BTW, tomorrow is grocery shopping day, so won't be home until about noon.
Good night everyone.
Hi Everyone,
Mary - still more fascinating info about your lambs. I still think you should write a book. I hope you've kept copies of your posts to these threads.
Enjoy your new chair. A comforatable chair can make a world of difference. Much better for you back, not to mention your elbows and wrists to have a good chair at the computer.
I am in Eastern time zone here in Ottawa. I'm off line at the moment; so I can't test this out for you, but I think you can change the way time shows on your screen if you want to. Go into "My Info". I think somewhere in there, you have an option to display the time differently.
As I mentioned earlier, the concert went well. Maybe the intonation, especially in the winds was not as precise as usual - that often takes longer for a wind player to perfect and since the Youth Orchestra was with us for half of the program, the winds were all doubling their parts. For the strings, there were just a lot of us. For the Shostakovich, the afternoon practice paid off in the awful passage. Most difficult was a real change of mood between the barn burners of the first half and the Shostakovich.
Lauri - hope you didn't have too sever damage with those strong winds.
dmc - did you go to the riding lesson? (Now I've come to the post where you admit to not having gone.)
defoe - I'd love to have you come and clean for me. After having had a cleaning lady for a number of years, I find it difficult to get back into the swing of things. How is DMIL doing. I'm also keeping her in my prayers.
sarv - I have difficulty imagining anyone budgeting $3500 for booze at a wedding period. Whatever happened to a cash bar? Glad to hear you went back to Huff & Puff.
sheila - want to put a coat on my kitchen table while you're at it? I've been looking at it lately and think it needs one.
Was the surgery for epilepsy successful for your friend? If she's prone to falls or seizures, she would do well to be in some assisted living. A former volunteer at the FC died last summer after falling and hitting her head. she had a seizure. If someone had been with her she might still be with us.
Good luck with your technicians.
Maria, your "Gugelhupf" is delicious. You're a wonderful cook. I also wonder how you stay small.
Babs - listen to your gut when it says not to work more. You sound like a very special dedicated nurse. Do what you can to avoid burn out because everyone will lose.
Enjoyed the wedding pic. And what a buy on the dress!
(((Janis))) sometime we have to make difficult decisions in regard to our kids. If there's a risk of your DS hurting someone, you did the right thing, but I hope that he gets all the help he needs.
Mary, your picture of Amanda Panda reminds me of my dear Tasha - the cat of a life-time who we had to put down in March of 2001. I still miss her. We used to watch birds together at the kitchen window.
Elaine, sorry to hear you had difficulty posting. I hope it has been sorted out. Will be thinking of your Dad tomorrow.
FlowerChild, I don't know how I would react in your situation but I sure hope your DD and DB don't do anything rash.
Maria - it must have taken a great deal of courage to come to a place where you didn't know anyone at such a young age. What a nice picture of the two of you.
Well I've made it through the first 41 posts. Wonder how many more got written while I've been off line. Will connect and send this off. Tomorrow will start early as DH has to be at the hospital for his surgery at 7 am and it's not one of the hospitals that are close to us, but completely on the other side of the city. Please keep him in your thoughts.
Ann
I have added your DH, Vann to the prayer list, and 101, your DF. Hope all goes well for both. Vann, please post as soon as the surgery is finished.
Well I am off to bed, as grocery day is tomorrow, and senior day to boot. So will be batteling "little grey haired women" through the aisles, I am praying for patience in that situation, and compassion and tenderness as well. Always end up helping someone find a certain something. Know that I will be there one day, and want someone to offer to help me. Can you image these long haired, baggy britches kids now, helping us little old ladies in the future. Scary thought huh. Remember, be nice to them, they will be the ones taking care of us in our old age at the nursing homes!! Puts a whole new perspective on it right? Didn't mean to give anyone nightmares, but the truth is the truth!!
Night all.
Well, I drove myself to PT today. My first time solo in the car since January 12. How did I survive? LOL
I actually missed DH being with me for my PT, I am used to him watching. It seemed odd. He was happy though, because he was planting spinach, peas and lettuce. He does love to work outside, but he said it was too HOT. It was only 80, what's his problem???? Tomorrow we are shooting for 85, isn't that too warm for spinach, peas and lettuce......??
Here is a picture of my favorite therapist, Keith, yesterday when I took Hinne the gnome to PT with me. Do not start with the laughing. He was glad to pose for the picture.
Tomorrow is my grocery day too, DH still has to go on that trip. His favorite.....sure.....
They aren't going to start any strength training until April, so I will have four weeks to work up to the 12 hour Indiana drive. He says I will be able to do it. BUT that it will take months more to get full strength back. That's OK, as long as I can do my visit I'm OK.
I'll be back in a bit to do the daily for tomorrow.
I have everyone on my prayer list too, seems that it gets longer everyday. I love this group, I feel like I know everyone.
Susan

you are an elegant, dignified lady, with a girlish inner self
Couldn't have said it better myself, Maria!
Just wanted to stop by and give hugs to all that need them and send prayers to those who are sick or otherwise down and ...
Susan ... am jumping up and down for you *clapping hands also* with joy over your progress!!!
I hope everyone will forgive my short post tonight. Am waving frantically. ~~~
... Elaine
Such a wonderful and very flattering response form all of you who cared to post it, I Iaccept it with much apprication.
True, I was only 18 years old but neither my husband nor I at that time felt particularly young, going through a war for several years one grows old fast of mind and with a heavier hart then contemporaries of another more peaceful world.

Maria, I am sure that is so true. But isn't it good to look back and find wonderful memories that none can take away. There are sad memories and then the good ones. Mostly the good outweight the bad. Just wanted to let you know that the trip plans are moving right along. Our trip will be June 19-24, have booked air line to Hartford, and am working on an iteniery. If you have any input, please let me know.
Well, off to bed, hopefully to rest peacefullly, and not be an early riser.
