Anita, the tag on this Heather says its good in zone 10 but no frosts
Coffee's On Again
well folks - I am so tired - I have to go to bed - nite!!!
gee...I think that's what Dave calls a cross posting!!! Why don't you keep it as a houseplant?
Al, your lace cap is pretty, any suggestions before spring rolls around and I plop mine out in the yard?
Anita, thats the plan, but if I keep buying house plants, I'm gonna have to move into the shed.
Dena,
my macropyhlla's are duds and I totally switched to paniculatta's, but you are warmer than me. I haven't really bought any during dormant season, what does it look like - is it leafy or dormant?
hang on Al, I'll go get you a picture of it...brb!
Very nice, boy what are you 4-6 weeks from being able to plant them?
They would totally not be happy going out into the cold. I would guess that if you have a cooler place like garage or something to keep in, with some light, that would be best until then.
My house isn't all that warm, I thought I'd put it in my daughters sunny window, till its warm out then I will plant it.
I need to go to bed, I'm pooped and I have a job interview at Home Depot, tomorrow, if the guy calls me back...talk about a fox in the hen house.....
Got back too late. Glad you had fun Dena.
Most of the heathers I'm familiar with winter-over at the mall.
See everyone tomorrow!
Geez, I'm having a hard time trying to keep up with you guys! Must be this 50+ brain :) Which reminds me - Dena is that you buried in all those gorgeous pics of the garden show? OMG, you're just a baby!!!! :) Oh yeah, good thing you got the Latin on your "heather" - I remember attending the Boston Flower Show every spring - I swear 75% of the people walking out of that show were carrying bouquets of that Erica! I found this link which might help you: http://www.rogersgardens.com/Heather.asp
bigcityal, re: your link above - 'ya think "frogbutterfly" needs to take a chill pill???
Andy, how can you possibly find the time to visit another gardensite?? I have enough trouble trying to catch up here :) Oh yeah, I tried to "watch" your other Photo Shows, darn dial-up froze on me - can't imagine why because I remember how much I enjoyed your first one - which reminds me, if I remember correctly, aren't you fairly new to this whole computer thing? Amazing what you've learned in such a short time - it's taken me years and probably wouldn't know half as much if it hadn't been for my teenagers "educating" me!
Anita - just wanted you to know I took the "quiz" - says I'm TWISTED!!!! But what can you expect from someone whose DH treats her to morning coffee and Grateful Dead at 5:30 in the morning!!!
Great DH!!! I'd keep him. Greatful Dead---is he a dead head?????? I on the other hand have to make my own - so the pot's on - - - - - coffee that is...
Well I did part of morning ritual, which is to check all the house plants. I haven't gone downstairs yet. I need to finish this cup of coffee first. So I am checking out here to see what's been happening here and to see what coming up in the form of shows [googling]. This show looks like it might be fun http://rochesterflowershow.com/sitemap.htm too bad it would take 6 hours to get there!! Other than that, seens like I'll have to wait until April. I am going to the Orchid Show at the NY Botanical Garden next week. http://www.nybg.org/
Well - let me go check on the plants downstairs and put in another load of laundry... See you on cup #2
Morning all! Extra large cup for me, I think I might have a coffee hangover.
That'll do it, need to remark my territory anyway.
I was thinking that Dena was a baby too, haven't looked up your hydrangea yet - I have Dirr's book from the library here right now!
I have two lacecaps that I obtained by cuttings from my friend's Mom's [Carol] plants...I can't wait to see how they do this summer. Very sentimental as Carol died over a year ago. She loved my garden and I loved hers.
I ordered this one from Wayside last year, so I am also curious to see how it does this year. http://www.waysidegardens.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/StoreCatalogDisplay?storeId=10151&catalogId=10151&langId=-1&mainPage=prod2working&ItemId=47022&PrevMainPage=textsearchresults&scChannel=Text%20Search&SearchText=hydrangea&OfferCode=S3H
these do better for me, do winter dieback

Needer,
nice, I would love to see an actual pic of that this year - will it be big enough to flower?
I'll let you know. I hope so! Gosh - I have spring fever so BAD!!!!!
I also cleared out the back part of my yard. I had let it overgrow with Rose of Sharon and forsythia, because I didn't want to see my neighbors mess. They have since done a rehaul on their yard so I cleared it out. Now I have a whole canvas to play with!! In the fall I loaded it up with some bulbs. I'm not quite sure what I will do this spring, but I am looking forward to playing with it.
Is that corner shady? Looks like a cool spot on the summer, that I don't have :(
It doesn't get midday sun. Morning/late afternoon sun. I have huge 100' oaks surrounding me. I am hoping it will be a fun bed to work with. ~25' x 15'. That area is a natural path for water heading to the lake in heavy rains and does tend to pool up in severe rain, but seems to asborb back into the ground pretty quickly. I am hoping it won't be too moist for some of the plants. Again - I have to play
Rick,
you sell plants?
what do you have for coneflowers?
Al
who's Rick?
rcn48 I believe, from his homepage
anita - didn't put any more bulbs in last fall, I'm rearranging a lot of beds this year and didn't want to disturb them, I love the giant allium
Yes - I did too. I saw the one by your front step
Late to bed, late to rise, makes a man miss everyone on DG.
I believe that was Ben Franklin who said that.
Out-of-sync Dave
rcn, Thanks a huge bunch for that link! I'm not sure what qualifies as a baby but yes that is me in there with the much preferred over me pictures of the flowers! LOL!
I'm 33, and I've been through an amazing amount of anguish in my short time... I'm glad I had the chance to learn such lessons at such an early age, I believe it made me love myself, learn about who I really am, and appreciate my family and my friends (including those of you on DG whom I have grown to love and trust). Besides I don't have any wrinkles yet.....HA HA HA HA HA HA! Oh, and coffee and the DEAD go hand in hand! Coffee and Rob Zombie, not so much.....
GOOD MORNING ALL! : )
boy guys - reminds me of a scene from 'The Big Chill'
Michael: Did I miss Karen and Richard?
Sarah: Just Richard, Karen's staying for the weekend and he went back to be with the kids.
Michael: Ohhhhh, interesting. What did Richard have to say about this?
Sarah: Michael, if you're going to sleep this late, you're going to miss a few minidramas.
Michael: I just hope you'll wake me for anything really nasty.
Good morning Anita! Never thought I'd be in the Michael role!
How are you??
Dave
good - been busy -
wintersowed a couple of containers;
did 3 loads of laundry [yeah, yeah - I'm single so where's all the laundry from??? I save it until I have nothing to wear cause I hate doing laundry!]
Watered all the house plants
Now I'm ready to eat something. I always forget to eat in the mornings on the weekend until I start getting woozy and realize...gee...maybe I should eat? It's amazing that I'm not skinny!
So how's your day so far??
Didn't wake up till nine! That's a big deal for me.
We made plans for our Disney vacation in March and then I came here.
I was off yesterday so I caught up on a lot of routine chores then. But mostly I'm being a bum.
I never forget to eat!
trust me - I'll make up for it! We are going out to eat tonight for the 'Birthday Dinner'. My brother, sister-in-law, sister, aunt , the girls and future brother-in-law go out to a 'nice' restaurant twice a year. 3 of us foot the bill for one dinner and the other three pay for the other.
Disney...I love that place - tell Mickey I said hi! We are thinking of going next year. Where are you planning on staying. We like to stay on the property. Last time we went we stayed at the Contemporary, which I thought was a bit outdated. The time before that we stayed at Dixie Landings -loved that one. Next year, my Aunt wants to stay at the Polynesian...
The Polynesian is supposed to be great. We've stayed (in the park) at The Dolphin, Carribean Beach, Fort Wilderness and a couple of nights at an All Star.
This time we are renting a house. You may want to check it out. Most come with their own screened in pool attached to the house. Here is ours:http://www.privatevacationhomes.com/home_ON2604A.html
rcn, Al, Sorry you can't view the Shows. Yes I'm relatively new at PCs and digital photography. Maybe it was because I had no one to instruct/rescue me with the PC that I picked it up as I did. There was a lot of pulling hair and bad language as I fumbled around.
I really MUST do the same with the camera, I'm an "auto" setting user, that is too limiting for me but I haven't a clue about other settings, LOL.
I participate on a photography site where we get assignments, submit pics for critique and hopefully improve.
This weeks assignment was of all things, FOOD.
This mornings breakfast looked like this, an over-sized blackberry pancake & eggs. They are going to have a field day critiquing this one, it's all fun though.
I titled it "A Mans Breakfast" yummy.
Anita, that's a nice corner for you to work on. think about thirsty plants like Hibiscus if there is enough sun. I'm sure you will fill it up beautifully.
Andy P
Wow Andy looks yummy!
How can you eat that much in the morning?
My breakfast consists of toast or a muffin and a cup of coffee or three, then later on when I have room for more, I eat some fruit.
Actually I usually have a bit left over, I did it up today for the pic.
I always have a good breakfast, can't start out on an empty tank, lol.
