Coffee and...For Tuesday, February 21, 2006 =^..^=
Hiyaa Susan! Just found your coffee threads. Am I welcome? Hugs to you regardless. Getting ready for sleep. Had a wonderful day with the pets. With all the snow (the whole inch of it, but that's lots for here) they are all cuddly and wanting to be loved on more than usual. --Mich and crew
Good very early morning. 12:30 here and I'm between shifts at the barn. Have to go back in a few minutes. The first trip out I brought in a set of twins, the ewe wouldn't follow the cart more than half way to the barn so after the second try I took the lambs in and then brought the whole flock into the barn where I had enough light to find her in the crowd. I spotted her in the flock and let about half of them out the door so she would have room to move around. That operation is like doing a dance remotely with about 100 partners. She found the corner pen where I had parked her babies, I got her fenced in there and let the rest of the flock back outside. Tonight it is very dark and starting to snow, it feels warm at 20 degrees with no wind after all the nights with temps around 0. When I left the barn to walk to my pickup which was parked across the road from the barn door I almost ran into it before I saw it. It's light blue. My flashlight wasn't working. Verrrry dark out there.
Welcome keyi, come back anytime and often. We like new faces, got two of them yesterday, Loretta, hello, I didn't see you until I checked the rest of yesterday's thread just now.
GG, what a pain! She sounds like my MIL (departed now) who could never find anything to suit her, complained about the quality, the styles, the sizes, the colors, the shapes (hers was most of the problem there), would finally buy something and then when she got it home she didn't like it and wanted to exchange it (for what?) and so the next trip was the same thing. To this day I do not enjoy shopping. I want to go in, get what I need and leave. She didn't drive and there was usually nobody else to take her. God forbid that I get like that.
Did anybody watch the Olympic Ice Dancing the last 2 days? There were some spectacular falls but the interesting thing was that one couple stood on the ice with their hands on their hips staring daggers at each other for about 30 seconds which is a long time when they were the only ones in a large arena and being watched by a packed house. All day today they wouldn't talk to each other, didn't do their warm up together, etc, then went out there and skated like they were in love. After the skate they kissed and made up (crowd loved it!) I went to bed before the results of the evening were announced. There is always so much drama at these high profile events.
Well folks, it's time to check the sheep again and then I get to go back to bed for the rest of the night.
Sheepishly yours, Mary
Morning all!! Got up and had to grease my feet up - cracks are a coming back!!
Mary, I love watching ice skating - and those two that glared at each other was something. Glad they did a good job and made up in the end. Do you watch skating with the stars too? We get a kick out of that. How in the world do you bring a whole flock of sheep into the barn - isn't that a load of bodies? Don't they sleep at night?
GG - shopping nightmare!!! When I took my MIL she said 'all this stuff made in China' - 'I'd rather order from a catalog!' - didn't tell her that the stuff she gets in the catalog is from China too! LOL I keep thinking she enjoys getting out, but maybe she would rather sit at home. I however love to shop and could go every day!!
Maria, you are on dial up??? And you can post pictures? Now how can that be? I thought my problem was dial up. You must tell me more....
M5- new drapes look nice. I am envious of anyone who can do things like that. I used to sew, but somehow lost the knack..
I've put another leaf in the table, it was getting crowded around the table. Get more goodies out gals/guys - to welcome out new comers. Bal, where are you - you know you have to post daily about what you are doing!!
Oh Keyi - you must tell us all about yourself...
Morning all.And Hi Keyi. I think I'm here only one cup in me and a mental list of things to do that is toooooo long, and chat opening in 10 hours my time. 28 degrees here again and too many plants covered up. LOL my yard looks funny as I took bales of straw ,busted them and covered everything I wanted to save and now have mounds everywhere. Hope everyone is feeling better today and is warmer than you have been. I went out at noon and did my holler and Gladys(dog) took out the door barking hysterical at what, she did'nt know, looked at me when she was done, sneezed and then walked back in the house. DH said something about having me committed to a quite room far far away shook his head and went back in too. Well off for now going to start doing something....Here's Gladys the other day looking pitiful...Lauri
Good morning all. Hi Keyi, and Lauri, glad to have you, Sarv good Idea putting a leaf in the table, we are getting to be quite a big group. Good thing everybody doesn't come in at once.
Sheepishly yours, Mary, got a kick out of that. Sounds like last night was a relatively quiet one. Good that happens once in awhile. I hate to go out at night without a flashlight. I am just blind in the dark. Several years ago, we had just moved into this house, was used to an outside security light, here we have none. I went out in the summer, and it was very dark. I heard something running toward me, and grunting, scared the bejebbers out of me. Come to find out, our neighbor had a pot bellied pig, who was not the friendliest creature, and it had escaped and was in my yard. The owner said that he was just looking to be fed, but it sounded like he thought he had found his meal ME!!
Sarv, sorry that MIL had an attitude shopping yesterday. That is why I like to go by myself, if I gripe and complain, it doesn't upset anybody but me.
Keyi, Gladys is a cutie. So she thought you had lost your mind? My Jack Russell (Mr. B) knows by now that I am crazy, and he just stands and looks at me, like would you cut it out!!
Well, I have an appointment this morning to get a hair cut. So have to get dressed and out the door. DH has gone to the hospital this morning. I sent DMIL Northern Beans and cornbread. She likes good country cookin. Hope she enjoys it.
I will check in again about noon to see what you have been up to.
Now play nice today.
Just dropping in to ask the crowd about Julie88. I don't see her posting anymore. Just wondering if she is alright. I know she used to post here everyday.
Excuse me ladies I am on the way back out. Have a good day.
Jim
Hi Jim! Stay awhile!
Hi Keyi Lauri sarv 9kitty and dcat!!
Mary, you are too funny!! Now don't feel sheepish!!
I'm off to my horsie jumping lesson so hopefully I'll be back, It's been a couple years since my last trip to the emergency room.....LOL I'll be alright probably. I have a great horse.
It's almost 30 degrees here...SUMMER!!
Okay, see y'all later.
Julie88 has gone into a digitizing trance, and only posts occasionally now. Since she got her new embroidery machine she has been MIA, but is having a great time so it's all good. She drops in once in a while.
Welcome newcomers. I'm sure you'll enjoy our company if we don't drive you crazy.
I'm still working on those drapes, but I'm only doing the narrow taupe on the outside. The white ones were a super bargain at Penney's warehouse, someone had them custom made and then returned them and I got the best end of the deal at about 80% off... Hard to find 90" long ones, most are 84". They weren't quite wide enough, so that's why I'm doing the side pieces, to fill the 10" gap, instead of making new holes for the drapery rods and having to patch and paint.
Which means if I am going to finish them today I need to unglue myself from this chair and get busy!
Waving to all, on my way to keeping myself out of trouble......
need a Sammi fix? A few seconds before this he was riding Mini like a cowboy on a horse.
Sheila
ok friends. I took some new pics using the lowest pix size. Was able to send them to myself, but when I tried to post them in the 'test' forum this is what I got
Warning - failed to open stream. No such file or directory.
Now there IS such a file as I sent it to myself before I tested it. Any help??? this is frustrating!!
Morning Keyi, nice to see you and Lauri. Jim we have men around, so you're welcomed to drop by any time. This isn't just for women. We have several guys that post and help to keep us well rounded. :) Please come back again.
Well, all but 4 of my tomato seedlings have started their second set of leaves. It seems like it has taken forever! I think they're liking their new home the DH fixed for them.
Speaking of which ... y'all I thought this was soooo funny. I walked in the kitchen last night, and the DH was going through my seeds. He said "I've borrowed one of your seed trays and am planting some dill seed." I just smiled and said "Sure, hon"
Hi Defoe, so glad your MIL is feeling a bit better. You got another bowl of those Northern beans left? I sure do like them, and that cornbread too! :)
Mary, tooo funny. How much longer does lambing last? I just keep on a singing "Mary had a little lamb".
Darius, how are you feeling today? Sure hope you're not getting sick.
Kelly, so sorry your day turned out so horrid yesterday. It's too bad she doesn't realize how fortunate she is to have someone who's good and kind to do that for her. You're a sweetie for being willing. Hugs to you
, guess I'll get up from here and get something accomplished this morning. Am waving to those I've missed. Hope everyone has a blessed day.
... Elaine
Sarv, go to browse and enter on it, then to "look in" and choose the directory where the file is stored and enter on it (be sure it's highlighted). Then go to your list view and choose your pic and enter on that. It might take several seconds to load. (are they jpg files or bmp? just wondering.) Now go to preview. Then send. I hope these are good directions. That's what I do. :) I'm not an expert. I'm just trying to help you. :)
... Elaine
GM! everyone,
Many Welcome's to the new comers! Grab a cuppa coffee or tea and whatever's up on the virtual counter and set a spell. We are all a rather chatty bunch around here.
I hope everyone had a nice day y'day. DH was home from work for a day, being it was President's Day and we had some nice time together. We went to Home Depot and picked up a couple of small things for the continuing project of the master bathroom. He was able to get the orange peel texture on the walls and then primer the walls, so next project is to paint the upper walls and put the wainscoting , chair rails and baseboards in. YEEHAW!!! We are getting closer! As Mum would say, "I canny wait 'til I've had a shishi (Japanese for tinkle) in the toidy!"
I have an early appointment today with the Ophthomologist to have punctum plugs placed in my lower tear ducts. I've had a pair in for the last 4+ years, but one came out a couple of months ago and I've had nothing but troubles since. So, my doc is going to pull the remaining one and put in replacements, but ones that should work even better than what I have now. These will be blue coloured as well so they can be easily transilluminated for inspection purposes. I'll also be having a visual field study today since I'm on medications that can be hard on one's retinas. I'm to the point now that I have to have checkups every 6 months instead of every 2 years. Eh, it's a small price to pay to retain one's vision. I don't mind a bit.
I'm taking Mum out for luncheon today and will take her to her podiatrist appointment afterwards. She goes every 3 months to have her feet inspected and her toenails trimmed as with the diabetes, I feel it's best. I used to do that for her all the time, but it's better to thave the podiatrist handle it these days. I feel better knowing he would jump on any possibility of infection or problem getting started. Mum is pretty awesome, she's managed to keep all her appendages despite being diabetic for 45+ years and insulin dependent for 38 of those years.
I've been giving Mum her weekly Procrit injections for the past 4 weeks and drew her blood on Thursday last. Her doctor called me yesterday and told me her H & H (hematocrit and hemoglobin) counts are up!!!! YAY! She started out at 8.9 / 25 and is up to 9.9 / 29. I have been noticing she's had more energy lately, her colour is better and she's mentating better as well. Now I can cut her back to every other week. Whew!
I also bought her a "Novaform Elite Memory Foam Mattress Topper" at COSTCO for her hosiptal bed, plus a pillow made of the same thing. She's really liking it and says it's taken the achiness of the regular mattress out of her back. I'm really glad as it was only $89.99 + $29.99 instead of $500+ for a whole new mattress. I have a Tempurpedic mattress on our bed and I love it, but it cost like the dickens too! I was a bit concerned getting her a new mattress as they are so thick and as short as Mum is (4'8") a new mattress would make it almost impossible for her to get into her bed. As it is now, we have the bed frame on the floor and not even on the casters because she's so short and it's hard for her to hop up into the bed. Even a 10" mattress on the bed would have made it almost impossible for her to get into bed.
I'm posting a quick picture I took yesterday morning. I scooted down the beach a bit from where we are for a better picture of the bay and Mt. Baker in the background. I managed to get a nice shot while the mutts were playing with some seaweed that had washed up on shore.
I've got to hop into the shower and get ready for my day. I send everyone the best wishes for a wonderful day.
With care, ~Babs~
IO1 - I have a mac and things don't work the same as a PC. Hey Darius, could you add any thing to help me get things working on piece of ****. (I know Dar. has a mac too) I just don't understand why I can send it to myself and it works, but it won't work in the test form.....
Sarve what program are you running. It might might be incompatable with something in DG program. DG runs linux so it might have something to do with it if it is a real old program. I am not sure. seems i haerd my daught mention something about old programs and Linux. You could always contact DG that terry for help.
Wow, Babs, what a pic! Thanks.
Reminds me of my favorite mountain too. Used to go camping at Mt. Baker as a kid and I really enjoyed those days.
Welcome to all the new gals and guys.
Hi, Mich, good to see you here.
Carol (DR)
Hey Keyi, welcome to coffee. We have a great time in here, I feel like I have made a great bunch of friends here. We are allowed to vent or rejoice or whatever we want. LOL
I seldom post this early, I don't get on until 10:45 or so and everybody else has gone to bed. That's OK, they catch up the next day.
I haven't done my exercises yet today, I need to get off of here and do that.
Our 'snow' is still on the ground and we might get above freezing today.
Welcome all the other newcomers too.
Susan
=^..^=
Nice shot Babs. We do have some awesome beaches don't we. Your Mum sounds like a kick in the pants. A 'shishi in the toidy' ? what an imagination. Best wishes to her.
PITA shopping ? I love shopping, but have to do it alone, no help, no suggestions, no complaining, no interference. DW and I have vastly different interests. I'm a roam-and-explore and she is a get-in-and-get-out. I'm bored with clothes and she's not interested in tools. We did spend a couple hours together at the big outlet mall getting the kids christmas present.
Dear one has to work today and I have a pottery class tonight so we won't meet till late. If I'm REALLY lucky the tiles will be out of the kiln and I can see if the glazes are what I had in mind. Have to take the backyard plan to be copied in prep for thursdays visit from the landscape designer. There was a thought that this year I could have everything cleaned up and looking like a real home instead of a junkyard. Got to work on that. The carpenter's knee surgery should be healed before long so he can get to those things I'm no longer able to do. Need to find a pair of comfortable flat-soled garden shoes, if there is such an animal. Hate tracking bitty pieces of dirt into the house, and everything seems to have "traction" grooves on th soles. Who needs traction in a flat garden?? Too cold in the shop to do any carving now that the propane tank is empty. Should bake the Jumble dough today too. As tough as it is I might be better off using it in the shed to plug up air leaks. The next attempt will be better.
Sarv, was it thou who asked about a picture of the carving? It's on my diary thing in the Journals.
Mary, hope you get a break from lambing soon. That's a whole bunch of kids. What is the total of you and the neighbors together ?
Everyone else, new visiters, lurkers, Carly, Fancy, Baily, Darby and all the other Sheltie kids, Immy, Tinker and I wish you all the most perfect day ever.
Sarv, more postings while I was rambling. First off, do you have iPhoto? It comes with the iLife software. The latest version is suppose to have some improvements over the '04 version. I love my iMac, but am running OS10.3 (panther) and fear updating to Tiger and iLife 5 because of the problems Ive read on the Apple Discussions forums about lost and screwed up data. If you get a new Mac the Mac store can transfer all your stuff to the new one and install Tiger and iLife at the same time. The 'local' Mac store has been a big help in getting stuff from the G4 to the G5. If you go to the Apple Discussions site there are heaps of threads and people to help, just like DG only for Macs.
Hi There,
Back from Aquafit. I forgot that I wasn't going to go on Tuesdays anymore now that I can go on Wednesdays. (Wow! 4 typos in one sentence. I'll have to shape up my typing.)
I'm going to TRY to catch up from yesterday. Apologies in advance if I miss commenting on your post.
Sheila - loved the doggeral. ;-) The curtains look GREAT. You do well typing with Sammi's help. LOL
Sarv, Hope the migraine is better today. I don't rightly know why you can't send pictures. What format are they in on your computer? Dial-up wouldn't have anything to do with it except that if you don't resize your pics yourself, they will take forever to upload. I have dial-up until I get my act together to complete the forms for high speed on the new computer.
Congratulations on the decision to get a new computer. I would resist the temptations to buy too small a machine. I've bought too many that were on the small side and were outdated too quickly. If it's got lots of memory it will keep you happy longer. And if the stores work the way they do here, you might well get a better buy on a brand name package which is put together by a large store than if you buy the components separately and have someone put it together for you. At least that's what we found. The new computer here is now 12 days old and still only partially set up.
We ended up with an HP system from Best Buy. We didn't like the printer that came with it and bought a separate one IN ADDITION and still paid less than if we had bought the components separately. (Will give the extra printer to DD and SIL). Staples had exactly the same system but started balking when we asked them to match the price (even though signs everywhere said they would); so Best Buy got the sale.
One more thing, new systems don't have 3 1/2" floppy drives anymore unless you add one. The best option (aside from having someone do it for you) to moving your data from the old computer to the new one is to get a memory stick. You'll be able to download the software to make it work on the old system. DH borrowed a 1 GB one from work but I went out last night and bought a 512 MB one for ourselves. With instant and mail-in rebates, it was less than $40 before taxes.
Kelly, sorry about your PITA shopping trip. Sounds like a couple of challenging shopping companions.
Defoe - posting pics of pets doesn't have to exclude those of us with dial-up as I mentioned above. But you might need to learn how to resize some of your pics. Your version of Windows undoubtedly has something which will work to do the job.
Glad there is some improvement in DMIL. Am still keeping her in my prayers. I with you on shopping by myself. But I'm not a patient shopper. I tend NOT to shop for bargains, but to shop when I need something and then I can scour the mall in an hour.
Susan, keeping my fingers crossed for DD. No pain is a good sign, but...
keyi - welcome. Pour yourself a cup and join us regularly.
Mary - glad to hear of more healthy lambs. I'm still amazed by your dedication.
I missed the ice dancing. Something has to give. And if I procrastinated about practicing all day yesterday, I had to do it last night. The concerts this weekend will come on schedule and I'd better know the music. But I really forgot all about the ice dancing. I also like to watch skating.
Just reloaded today's thread. Four more messages while I was writing what is above. Chatty bunch today.
Hi Jim - have you stopped in before? Good question about Julie. anyone know the answer?
Elaine, I'm jealous when you talk about starting tomatoes. I won't even think about starting them here until early April or they'd get impossibly leggy before I could put them out.
Babs, glad your project went well. What do punctum plugs do?
Your Mom IS doing well for all those years with Diabetes, but I bet having good care from you has helped a lot too. Loved the pic. We really enjoyed our trip out that way last September when my niece was married in Hood River.
Oh Sarv, discount all my advice above. I don't know anything about Macs.
Talking shopping, the sum of mine yesterday - Bulk Barn to use a coupon worth $3 on a $10 purchase. Got a number of items I needed and some pistaschios just to make sure I was up to $10.
Then to Canadian Tire for a cheap garden spade which will help us get the ice off the sidewalks and driveway. Plastic shovels don't cut it. And my good garden spade (not that I'd let DH use it on ice anyway) is snowed into the garden shed in the back yard and inaccessible. Then to Staples where I bought the memory stick and I needed hanging file folders for my handbell music. the church would have ordered some for me, but their catalogue didn't show legal size in more than one color. I have my music color coded according to the number of octaves of bells required. (2 or 2-3, 3 only, 3+). We have four octaves of bells, but sometimes we only have enough people to play 2 or 3 octaves at any given time.
Need to get out the afternoon and see if I can get a new bathing suit before the present one is completely rotten. I know what I want - a basic Speedo. Just have to find it in my size. Or maybe they will order it for me. Anyone else HATE trying on bathing suits?
Hope the rest of the day goes well for everyone.
Ann

Hi Everyone,
Keyi,
Welcome to coffee,,,glad you are joining us.
Mary,
Gran's Usually not that bad,,,I think it was cause it wasn't all about her yesterday,,,,,when her and I went off by ourselves to find what she wanted,,,she got a little better. My Aunt will be retiring at the end of the week, so she will start taking her and that will give me a rest. LOL I LOVE her and spending time with her,,but she was just in one of those moods yesterday. I have been watching the Olympics every chance I get,,,,I saw some of the Ice Dancing but not all of it. I'm glad the one American couple got a Silver Medal.
sarv,
LOL @ the catalog stuff being made in China too,,,but, what she doesn't know, won't hurt her. Good luck with the pics,,,,it can be frustrating. I usually save my pics in my Documents folder, when I want to put a pic up on a thread, I click Browse, then go to My Documents, then My Pictures, hi-lite the pic I want to post then click open. When you look at the box next to browse it should have the path to the pic in there,,,,just hit send. Forgive me if I'm repeating,,,can't remember what the others have told you. I save my pics in JPEG format.
laurie,
LOL, tell DH the white room doesn't sound so bad,,,I didn't do it cause I didn't know about it,,,and I was shopping at the time. Gladys is such a sweetie!
dcat,
Sorry but I Had to LOL @ the pig,,,they can be kinda mean,,,good thing he didn't get you,,,,,LOL I think I would have messed myself if it was running at me and I didn't know what it was,,,ewe
Jim,
Pop in anytime. Yep, Julies holed up in her basement making digitized embroidery patterns and lovin' every minute of it,,,LOL
dmc,
Have fun with the horsies.
M5,
They look nice,,,but of coarse, we'll need a pic when they're done. Sammi and his antics,,,,Poor Minnie,,,LOL
Elaine,
Glad to hear the maters are coming along nicely. oooo, DH getting in the seed starting mood also,,,,good,,,lol Gran does thank me all the time for *putting up with her* (her words, not mine) she just gets in her moods. She settles down.
Babs,
Glad to hear you'll be getting all fixed up with your eyes,,they'll be good as new it sounds like. Glad your Mom is doing so well with her health,,,sounds like she is really something,,,LOL That's great! Gorgeous pic, thanks for posting it.
Well, it's been quite a while since I started this,,,I better get my substantial rear out of this chair and into the shower,,,,hopefully I'll get calls to fill in more today and the rest of the week.
See ya later,
Kelly
Welcome, Lurkers, and stay a while, lots of fun here with even more gab fests then any where else
Sarv I have cable msn9 dial-up, comcast is my provider, wish I could help you more but know hardly anything about computers, my SIL alway helps when I seem to have a problem or want something new he does what ever needs doing
Babs, Albeert Bierstadt from the hudson River School could have painted the photo you posted. I have seen a few of them in New Egland but think most of his paintings are some where in a museum in the north west, but am not too sure about it.
Some one asked for a picture of Samson, was it magoobu?
Here he is with a toy from this morning.
Does this look like a lawn, of course not it is frozen grass
Whoohoo Maria yes it was me asking for pictures of handsome samson and thank you!!!! Too cute I love him~~~
Wow I had to do some cleaning up on my computer MG was kind enough to talk me through it but has the computer stuck doing that all night and now had stuff to do this am and look at all I have missed.
It took me awhile to catch back up and know that I read it all
Waving and giving hugs to everybody!!! Have kid home sick today so will pop back in again today .
Welcome to Loretta Lauri and Suzi
KEYI wonderful to see you here !!!!!!!!!!!!! :-)
Anne/Mags
Hi everyone! I give up on trying to keep up with everyone over the weekends. I spend 8 hrs a day at a computer at work and on the weekends, I really don't want to look at mine. But I do miss keeping up with everyone here. I'll try to go back and catch up with what's happend over the last few days.
Got MIL moved this weekend with no incidents. She moved into a 2 year old mobile home. Really cute. Kitchen is big and sunny.. I think she has more kitchen closet space and counter space than I do.
Somewhere I read that Darius was ill. Hope you are feeling much better today.
I see we have some new faces at the table, Welcome! It's a great place.
I'll try to catch up and be back later.
Well, I am back with my brand new hair cut. It looks really good. Had tried to let the back grow a little longer, but it just wasn't working out, so I am back to a style that I have worn for years. Hey, I'm not stuck in a rut, I tried change, but it didn't work!! While I was out, stopped by Lowes and bought 2 florescent light fixtures that were on sale, my plants are gonna love me for this. They had all kinds of bulbs, but didn't but anything but 2 rhubard bulbs.
GG, talk about being scared, When I heard that noise, I took off running as hard as I could and got in the house. It scared the c*** out of me. Sort of a grunting, snorting, heavy breathing sound, then the sound of feet in the grass. Glad to hear that the Aunt will be taking Gran out shopping when she retires.
Someone asked about Carat. She was going to her new home over the presidental holiday. Probably home now, but am waiting to hear from her too.
Vann, hope the computer set up is complete soon. It is a tedious task.
Maria, hello, great pics of Samson.
Mags, those computer clean ups are necessary. Also time consuming.
Bal, I hear you about garden shoes. Can't find any I particularly like. Jumble dough, to fill cracks, hehehe.
Babs, what a picture. I love it.
Ozarkian, Hi there, got any more fish stories?
Kittymom, get those exercises done. Want to be in top shape for your trip and spring gardening.
dmc, good luck on the jumping lesson. Don't even think ER on the same day as a lesson
M5, those are great looking drapes. Wish I could be as creative. Sammi is a hoot!! Love his pics.
101, yes I have more of the beans and cornbread, just didn't want to set them out for breakfast. Sarv might be the only one to enjoy them at that hour.
Jim, stop back by. Men are welcome. You just might learn something from all these chicks.
Sarv, some of the computer tasks are very frustrating. Sometimes trial and error is the only teacher.
dr, when is your trip to Hawaii? Say you are going to visit the folks soon. Hope your dad is doing well.
Well, I am going out to the garage and put up those light fixtures, and have everything ready to put those seed trays out there.
I will be back later, try not to talk so much this afternoon, too hard to catch up.
Hi susieq. Glad to hear that MIL is moved. Is she happy there? A big sunny kitchen with lots of cabinet and counter space. I have a big kitchen, but not near enough counter space. Will have to redesign the kitchen in the next house we build. I say everybody shoud build 3 houses in their lifetime. The first to just have a new house, the second to correct mistakes in the first, and the third to downsize because by then, you don't need all that space!!
Hey everyone - just got back from computer shopping!! Went to 5 different places. The first was Office Depot - there a very nice young man came right up and offered to help me (he needed dental work tho!!) He directed me to a HP 1024MB memory 100GB hard drive. (is that ok???) I went to Best Buy next and no one there would be bothered to help me - so I left - their loss. Other places were ok, did offer help, but I think the office depot place had the best deal.
I went back there to buy it - AND THEY DIDN'T HAVE ANY!!! Can you believe my luck!! The nice sales guy told me he could order me one, it would take at least 2 wks...Now I am going to wait until my brother can go with me on Thurs. Gives me some time for feedback from you all! LOL
Stopped for lunch at Wendys and sat in the car and looked at all the ads I had taken with me - great fun!!
def0- I would love a new house. We first moved into a centennial farm house that we redid on a shoe string, then moved her - put on a big addition, redid kitchen and I'm afraid I'll stay here until I croak. Great neighbors, nice yard etc and paid for (that's the best!!) The only problem is that everything needs to be redone again...
defoe - glad to hear about the nice haircut. That's a picker-upper.
Re the computer, I just have to deal with about 4 pages of forms from the Internet company and send them in. Then wait a few days. Otherwise, it's quite functional. I don't plant to get rid of this one except for Internet. Oh yes, I'm waiting for a new version of my music notation program to arrive in the mail.
Sarv, those specs on the computer seem strange to me. What's the processor speed?
The one we ended up with is a 524 chip with 1.0 GB memory and 300 GB hard drive. Most of the ones we looked at had 200 GB hard drive. The chip varied a bit. You might want to have a look at the HP web site. BTW, when I was at the library in Rochester a few weeks ago, I noticed that their computers were HP's. I asked whether they had many problems with them and they said no.
Coming from a MAC - do you want to go to a PC? I know a lot of Mac users would never change.
Ann
Whew, hadn't checked in since early this a.m.--who asked us not to talk so much? Good luck with that! Spent the morning covering a little bench the cats sit on to look out and chatter at the birds, and did a bit more on the remaining drape until I made a stupid mistake and now I have to rip a four foot long seam because I did it wrong. Using teeny tiny stitches, Grrrrrrrrrr. Threw it on the sewing machine and left it before I make an irreversible error. Work on it tomorrow.
Babs, would your mum use a little step for getting into bed? She has done wonderfully well for having had diabetis for so long. Says something about your good care.
I woke up at 4 this morning and only dozed off and on after that so I'm feeling sleepy now....Think I'll take that book I started and find a cat to keep me company. And if I should happen to doze off, I won't mind.
I'll check in to say good night, but I'm off for now. Killed the laundry monster, too. Serves him right.

Hey Sarv, I echo Ann's question of going from a Mac to a PC. It was a present for my 65th birthday, give or take a couple years, that my beloved son helped get a PC for me. I was instantly confused and bewildered. A year or two later, give or take a few, I bought my nieces G4 Mac when she up-graded, and was instantly confused and bewildered. Now I have a beautiful space conserving iMac 1.8GHz Power PC G5 with 1 GB DDR SDRAM and I am totally confused and bewildered, but at least I can post photos on DG and what more could anyone wish for, except to be not so confused and bewildered.
It's your choice, but I think Mac's are cuter than PC's and everything else is irrelevant as long as you are confused and bewildered.
Me again. I only slept until about 7 this morning although it did take me a while to get back to sleep after the 2nd round of sheep checks. I was home by about 2:45. There were no new lambs on the 2nd check. We had a little snow falling in the wee hours but not enough to cover the ground. Same thing today.
Sarv, you asked how I bring all those sheep into the barn, actually it is pretty easy. They move away from me and so I just steer them. Sheep are panicy animals, virtually without protection, so they like to stay close together. When they get moving it is like one solid mass of wooly bodies. They can be steered by the light on the 4 wheeler and the flashlight. So, I just moved them into the corral and shut the gate so they can't go back to the pasture, and from the corral they went through a wide doorway into the barn. They know there is hay in there. Then I shut the door until I was able to locate the ewe I wanted in the flock, she was over near the right hand side from where I was standing with my back to the door. I backed up and slid the door open while keeping her in sight, then walked toward her and the sheep nearest the door decided to leave and started around me to the left. When one goes they all want to go, it's a controlled semi panic. I let the ones go out that I didn't want until about half of them were gone and I had lost sight of the ewe. So I backed up, the sheep that were on their way to the door stopped, and I closed the door.
Then the sheep were moved around in a circle until the ewe realized where her babies were and she went into the pen, I put up the gate and opened the barn door, shooed the other sheep out (some of them were snacking on hay in various parts of the barn and didn't want to leave). Closed barn door, opened corral gate and shooed them back out into the pasture. Yes, they do sleep, but not hours and hours at a time like people do. And we keep disturbing their sleep every couple of hours when checking for newborn lambs.
Question, what do sheep count when they have insomnia? When I can get a sheep to talk I will let you know.
Robert, all the sheep belong to the neighbor, we don't own any anymore. I got experience with our flock and had sold them before we moved here. That experience has come in handy since the neighbor needed some help and I needed a part time job. He has 120 ewes this year and they will produce about 200 lambs. Your puppy is almost as big as the adult dog now, they sure grow fast.
Babs, beautiful picture! Tell us more about the plugs for the tear ducts. I never heard of them. I'm sure that your mother still has all her appendages largely to the excellent care you give her. When the bathroom is done will you bring her to your house so she can use it? I think she should be first!
Elaine, funny how your hubby wants to grow something now! I think I see that set of shelves being outgrown very soon. I'll be busy with the lambing for a couple more weeks, then we will just be down to the stragglers and the weather will be warmer.
Have a great day everyone. How does spareribs with saurekraut sound for dinner?
Oh Mary, that sounds wonderful! What do you serve with it? I had a friend who gave me a recipe like that and she always served the krout with creamed potatoes. Would you share your recipe? The one she gave me calls for slow roasting the ribs in the oven ... pouring off the grease and then adding the kraut, celery and onion along with some water and seasonings. That makes a delightful gravy for the potatoes. Would love to hear how you fix yours. :)
And yes, my shelves are filling up fast. It's so warm here, though, am able to keep a lot of things outside ... even at night.
Babs, so glad to hear your Mum is getting along so well. She has surely been blessed ... both with good health and to have such a wonderful daughter. :)
Hi Suzie ... am waving at you!
M5, you certainly are smart to be able to turn a scarf into curtains. You'll have it done in no time!
Susan, how did your exercises go today? And what about your DD? Didn't she go to the doctor today? If so, hope she got good news.
Well, my girl is nudging me for her supper, so will check back later.
... Elaine
Spareribs and sauerkraut sounds wonderful , Mary, had to make it quite often for my husband. Recently I discovered my SIL likes it a llot, of course, had to make it right away
Sarv, sorry they were out of it, many times when I finally decide what I want I am told they are out of it, :-( mine is a Dell PC and the same for a laptop, never had a problem except when a virus struck it down
Babs, just like Mary asked what is this about tear ducts??
Meezer, making mistakes sewing is such a pain in the neck, have done it many times, especially in quilting all that hand work going down the drain
Oh Bal, I will be confused no matter what kind I get!! My sons both have PC's and will help me - they won't even look at a mac. And macs are more expensive than pc's and I am watching my pennies!!
VI I am going to email you with all the specs - don't want to bore everyone on here...
Here's a good one for you. I happened to call my mom and tell her I was computer shopping (remember she gave me $$ for one) Anyhow she said my brother called her last night and in talking, told her that they had to cancel their vacation as I was not able to stay at their house. It is rescheduled for next Oct. He told her he hoped that I would be feeling better and could do it then! (I told a little white fib about why I couldn't do it....) Now he never mentioned not going to me - he is taking me computer shopping on Thurs....oh dear....guilty.......
M5- that's why I don't sew!! ripping out causes immediate migraines!!
Okay, skipped many threads that I will want to go back and read...
BUT... Sarv, send me a Dmail with your real email address and I will try to help you with Mac photos and posting them.
Sarv, please understand despite the higher cost of Mac's, I AM a dedicated Mac person (I am on my 5th or maybe 6th Mac since 1987). I maintain 2 regular PC's and the Mac's simply have fewer problems and are much more User Friendly.
Rats, rats, rats! Had a semi-long post nearly completed, hit a wrong key and sent the whole mess into neverland.
Okay, once again. M5, thanks for asking for the link for my candles. If anyone wants to see them they're at http://www.silverandstone.com.
Your drapes look very nice. I'm afraid that if my mother weren't living there we wouldn't have a single set of curtains anywhere ---- just shades or blinds for privacy's sake. Once upon a time a roommate and I decided that we'd do up our living room in grand style with burgandy velvet drapes, wicker peacock chairs, etc. We got as far as painting the walls lavender and buying a couple of plants with fuzzy, purplish leaves ------ and that was that! Oh yeah, also meant to say that I enjoyed your "poem" and that I also didn't know what the heck they were talking about at first.
That reminds me, Lauri, I think Gladys just wanted to get her own two cents in. Go Gladys, go! (Any furkid that does a "search and destroy" on Japanese beetle grubs is okay in my book.)
Keyi, you "look" familiar. Have we met on the pets forum perchance? Welcome to the coffee klatch.
Maria, the pictures of Samson are great. The second one looks like, "Aw, Ma not ANOTHER picture!" (Or was he just tired out from all the excercise?)
D'cat, glad the haircut worked out well. I hope you have good news on your MIL too later today.
sarv, is there a Circuit City near you? We've done quite well there in terms of both price and sales help that actually knew what they were talking about. I was going to give you some info on a photo editor that DH downloaded free, but it dawned on me that I haven't a clue whether or not it would work with a Mac.
Hi Robert, glad you decided to share your daily happenings (and the pictures of your cute furkids) with us again.
Magoobu, hope the sick kid gets better pronto.
Mary, hope you get a chance to catch up on your sleep (and to keep warm!)
Okay, I'm sure I've forgotten some people, but I keep getting interrupted here and I'm afraid to press my luck and lose this post as well. May be back later.
SARV Anytime you buy a computer you need not worry about the guys teeth are how helpfull they are because they are selling what is in the machine. There are a couple other things the first and foremost is the processor. Intel makes most of the processors. this is a overall program that your Windows will be working with. It will have something to do with the speed of your computer. I think the best processor is Intel Pentium 4. I am not sure of that. Have them tell you what processor is the fastest. Then there are a few things about Windows. I would think you would be getting the XP version. Well there are a couple of versions within that version and not all have things like a spell checker. You will also have free virus software offers. Take it but you do not need all the stuff like a firewall and god knows what else. I have a basic coverage. It takes care of anything coming in provided I do not go and open a lot of attachments. you can get stunbg opening attachments no matter what you got in there for protection. I do not open any even if it is coming from the Lord. You are only going to get what you paid for SARV there is not many real deals out there. There are a lot that appear to be deals.
Wow, lots of reading to do in here. Well, for those that don't know, I'm Mich and I'm a petaholic and a new daylilyaholic. Nice to meet those I don't know, and big hugs to those I do. (They already have my cooties)
Today being Tuesday, it's chemo day for my lovely doggie Ranger, and movie day for the humans. So all the pets and people pile in the living room and snuggle and get lovins while we watch whatever dvd fare is new for the week.
Let's see, we have 7 dogs, 7 cats, 2 sugar gliders, 2 rats and a ball python petwise, 3 teenagers (one is moving out soon! Yippee!), my best friend and 'caretaker' Rob and her hubby Rick (whom we never see because he is an onlinegameaholic when he's not at work)
