What happened to the previously PERFECT forum search???

Deer River, MN(Zone 3b)

I was sooooo pleased and grateful when Dave tweaked the programming to create the PERFECT forum search to facilitate plant trading the way I like to do it, but to my great chagrin, when I just visited the forum search, it's all gone! Apparently I can no longer search on a member's name, a specific forum, and a type of plant simultaneously. Gone is the ability to use the search function to help figure out trade options.

What happened? Was this one of those, "If it seems too good to be true, it'll be taken away from you" things?

Why, Dave, why?

Here are a couple threads-in-progress on the status of the search engine:

It's baaaaaaaaaack!

Well, almost. It's back the way it was before Dave so kindly included thumbnail pics in the search returns. Sadly, the thumbnails I so appreciated are now gone. Is this permanent, Dave, or are you still working on including thumbnails again?

Laurie

Laurie,

It's funny you noticed that. :) There are some things left to be done with the search, and adding thumbnails back is one of them.

Excellent! Thanks, Dave, for keeping the thumbnails alive and well in the forum search!

Laurie

I did work on the search this morning and the thumbnails are back in.

Also the forum slow downs we had during the past 24 hours should hopefully be fixed now.

Thank you again, Dave!

Happily. :)

Dave, would it be easy to program (and easier on the search engine and servers) to add radio buttons under the search to specify whether we want to search just the forum we're in, or all forums?

There are times I can't think of a really unique word within the thread I'm hunting, so I wind up waiting for the system to return thousands of search results, just so I can re-run it for a specific forum and/or poster's name.

(Give us an inch, and we'll ask for the whole "back forty" acres ;o)

You can always click on "Search" in the menu bar to access that function. It's a pulldown menu of forums to choose from.

HAHAHAHA! Oh mercy. I WORK here and I didn't know that clever little trick. When did you add that, oh great webmaster?

Chuckling. I think I put it there when I moved the site to the tab format that it's currently in (when was that?)

Good grief. Shaking my head....

Okay, c'mon - show of hands. How many of y'all knew it was there???? (I'm probably the lone member who never bothered to try that link.)

Deer River, MN(Zone 3b)

Uh, I knew. In fact, I'm quite certain it was you who taught me how to use that search, Terry.

Umm...I knew it was there too. The blue down arrow is the clue. :)

No, really - I didn't know this (see screenshot) would take you to this: http://davesgarden.com/forums/search.php

I may have given you tips on using those other search fields, but I always arrived at the place where you can access all three fields by using the search box (now with the "(: search :)" button beside it, then narrowing down my search.

I love that search option.......I found it a long time ago too. Sorry Terry!;)

Well Terry, I'm with you. I didn't even realize there was a search option available in the menu bar. Before the seach button got put in, I would just put my cursor in the seach box and hit enter. :-)
