Valentine for Hubby?

Decatur, GA(Zone 7a)

Here it is 2 days before the Big Day and I have no clue as to what to give dh for a Valentine present. I have a card and an empty brain. Chocolate is out, as is jewelry. Any suggestions? We've been married 25 years and I swear it gets harder and harder each year.

south central, WI(Zone 5a)

Flowers, gift certificate for a massage, computer games?!

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

I was going to tell you to wrap yourself in red saran wrap and buy a bottle of wine but that might not be appropriate so I won't say that.

How about cook his favorite meal, take him to his favorite restaurant or rent his favorite movie and pretend you like it? :)

Decatur, GA(Zone 7a)

Good suggestions, but not there yet. He is so into Neopets that he has no computer time for anything else. Plus, he is an excellent cook and I can't come close. Still thinking...

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

a new cookbook!!

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Oh Neopets! My kids love those! Has he found Tamagotchi's yet? If he likes one, he might like the other.

Decatur, GA(Zone 7a)

You mean Tamagotchi has a web site, too? No way I'm telling him about that. hahahaha!

What he'd really like is an afternoon of cooking with Rachael Ray. lol

Brewers, KY(Zone 6b)

how 'bout some new bbq utensils with gourmet sauces?

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

Music? An old album he remembers fondly, but does not have? Many old recordings are available on cd now.

Payneville, KY(Zone 7a)

One time, (a very long time ago)....I got rose petals and made a trail from the front door to the bedroom...where I was waiting ;) I had "love" signs up here and there...i.e. go this way...be careful...love abounds, etc. Wow, was he surprised. (I had arranged for the kids to go to a neighbor's)

For my DH 50th birthday, I paid for a classic biplane ride for him and our son over Louisville. I knew it was something he'd never do for himself or again....He loved it. I bought them each a camera (disposable) so they could take pictures while in the air. (Open cockpit plane).

Perhaps you could arrange for a friend that cooks well to make you a great dinner and serve it to you restaurant style; you could reciprocate it sometime. :)

Silver Lake, OH(Zone 5b)

What about the videos Rachael Ray has out? Or her cookbooks?

Decatur, GA(Zone 7a)

These are great ideas. Maybe a video of RR would be good. I love the romantic ideas, but at our age I don't know.

Since I hate to go out to eat on holidays, I always make a lovely dinner at home for V-Day. If I can find nice live lobsters, I make those, otherwise get super-large lobster tails & other seafood to make a nice platter, or do jumbo shrimp stuffed with crabmeat or something like that. I also plan to start the meal with escargot-stuffed mushrooms.

Husband always brings me flowers & books/DVD's; & I've already bought him several nice books I know he wanted or would enjoy. Just have to pick up wrapping paper & a card tomorrow.

I've always found books &/or DVD's or CD's to be perfect gifts for my husband, as I can gear them to his interests, & they bring repeat enjoyment. And since we're both old/classic film buffs, DVD's bring us both enjoyment.

Hillsburgh, ON(Zone 5a)

How about candle light, a chilled bottle of wine, nice music in the background, and a lovely dinner served picnic style on the living room floor. Oh yeah, make sure the kids are away! LOL!

Culpeper, VA(Zone 7a)

Well, I just got back from the market, & they did have lovely lobsters, so I bought 2 pound-&-a-halfers, as well as some baked clams for an appetizer. Also picked up a package of Hershey's Kisses with Almonds to tie into a bow on his book package.

Except for the cooking (which will be really minimal), my V-Day tasks are done - lol!!!

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

So what did hubby get?? AND, what did YOU get?

Culpeper, VA(Zone 7a)

Husband brought me a dozen lovely long-stem yellow roses (I prefer the other colors to the red), along with the boxed DVD set of old "The Thin Man" movies with William Powell & Myrna Loy, which I REALLY wanted.

I gave hubby 2 huge coffee-table-type books that he loved. One is a complete compedium of all the James Bond films to date, complete with lots of photos, interviews, & behind-the-scenes stuff; the other is another huge book about Mt. Everest, since hubby likes reading about moutain-climbing stuff. (I was lucky in that I caught him perusing the book at the book store when we were there last month, so hustled back the next day & bought it.

Dinner was delicious, & in fact I'm making Lobster Roll sandwiches for dinner tonight with the lobster that was leftover - they were just to big & full to finish!!

Where did Carmen go? Still celebrating? :)

Decatur, GA(Zone 7a)

Hey, I'm here! I wound up giving him 3 jazz CD's that the owner of the shop knew that he would like. He loved them, and is outside smoking a cigar, enjoying a cocktail, and listening to one of the CD's through the outdoor speakers I gave him three years ago. The man does seem to have everything!

He gave me a wonderful card, and a beautiful blue Venetian glass necklace with beads all around. The beads are all hand blown and there are several different styles. Intersperced are tiny silver charms, like a fairy, a cat's head, a moon and star, etc. It is just beautiful!

My 17 YO dd's card actually made me cry. On the outside is a blue hear holding a bunch of roses in front of his face and it reads: Hey mom, you know all that love you give? Inside, the bear is all smiles and reads: Well, right back at you, and more!! Aren't kids wonderful? (sniff, sniff)

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

It sounds like you two had a lovely day! And it sounds like the day is still going on. :)

I can't wait until my kids get big enough to give me real, heartfelt cards like that!

You and breezy both had very good days!

Decatur, GA(Zone 7a)

And, didn't you, Badseed? Tell us about your day.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Oh I had a lovely yet simple day. :) Hubby brought me home chocolate covered cherries with the chocolate truffle filling instead of the usual sugary filling. He left for work around 2 and the kids came home at 3 and 4, bouncing off the walls from Valentine's Candy. LOL I won a couple of daylily bids, ate dinner, went to chat for a few minutes and called it a night. The kids and I finally fell asleep around 9pm and I got back up at 1:00 and drove an hour to our other house. I tiled the eat in bar I built in the kitchen, worked on drywall, did some cleaning and then did some gardening. Apparently I missed quite a few bulbs in the soon to be lawn area and left some of my species hems in the side yard. I came home around noon, took a three hour nap and was back to chores here. Hubby came home around midnight and found his bag of Hershey Mini's. It's not an exciting life, but it's mine. :)

Decatur, GA(Zone 7a)

Wait a minute - you got up at 1:00 in the morning, drove an hour to tile, drywall, clean and garden?!? In the middle of the night? That's amazing! I'v never seen anyone as dedicated as you are. And, congratulations on winning your daylilies! :-)

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

LOL Yes, sad but true. :) We are hoping to put the other house on the market next month and we haven't gotten down there to get much done for the last couple of months with hubby working seven days a week. I was going on the weekends but taking the six girls with me was sort of unproductive. Going in the middle of the night by myself, I don't have six whirlwinds moving behind me. LOL

Lewisburg, KY(Zone 6a)

Having four kids, I remember the middle of the night workshifts. Laundry, ect. My husband has always worked swing shifts. Sometimes, I feel like I do. Back up at 2.00 and wide awake.
