invasive species forum?

Dave, would you consider a forum for the discussion of invasives, native and alien? PLEASE????

Garden Foes

Yes I say garden foes too but I also understand Kathleens feelings.

I did have some more to say but have decided against it but I did want to say I do think the feel of the IP forum has changed.

This just seems to crop up way too often, and causes a lot of bad feeling. I've been through it too many times. I have very few forums here that I'm comfortable in and I'd hate to lose another.

Hang in there, Kathleen! With reason and perseverance we can sort this thing out, don't you think? Your suggestion might help us get there!

Terry has presented to me some good ideas and we've decided to create the invasives forum. There will be strict rules, however, and perhaps the forum will even lead to a banning or two for those who can't follow the upcoming rules.

When the forum is created, I'll post within that forum what we expect from the users of it.

Dave - I can see red flags all over this one... it might be a lot of work on your part but if you feel up to the challenge most of our members are great folks who can agree to disagree. I am more worried that peoples feelings will be hurt buy some of the harsh ways some folks deal with people talking about plants they hold to be invassive (and no second chances given). I can see a lot of better ways to talk about these plants in the forums that are already here.

I dont envy you on this one.

Seems like some folks just love to hear the sound of their own voices.

In the past, those who have bullied or been particulary nasty towards others have been given several chances to reform, and then shown the door if they did not mend their ways. I sincerely hope that this policy continues.

In the fall of 2004, we were "invaded" by several disagreeable persons. This place was a zoo for about two months, and we lost several good people because of it. Even I unsubcribed for awhile. As we grow, I think it is going to be very important to be vigilant about those who can't play nice with others. I would really hate to see us lose the friendly, tolerant tone that we have had here up to this point.

This should separate the wheat from the chaff. Those who don't want to play nicely will thankfully be removed from the site in a real hurry.
