Mid-Atlantic Forum: Any interest?

Fredericksburg, VA(Zone 7a)

Any DGers interested in a Mid-Atlantic forum? From what I have found, Mid-Atlantic is defined as including Virginia, West Virginia, Washington D.C., Maryland, Pennsylvania, Delaware and sometimes New York and New Jersey.

Thanks,
Garity

I'd have to say I'm interested. I'm trying to keep up with all the new forums and especially the Northeast, Ohio River Gardening and Carolinas, but Mid-Atlantic gardeners are left out. Although our growing conditions are similar to all of these, it would be nice to have our own forum to share botanical gardens and events to visit as well as share our own quirky weather/soil conditions.
Hopefully others will join in here.

I'm interested, I like the Northeast forum but to many Pennsy people there.

Hmmm...let me think about that...YES, YES, YES!! I have been meaning to post this same request for the past few weeks. I would love to have a forum to talk with other Mid Atlantic gardeners.

YES!!!! Definitely YES!

I would love to participate!

That used to be one of my favorite Forums on "GW". It was so nice to know that everybody was, kind of, in the same boat weather-wise and when you mentioned some famous Nursery or product, everyone knew what you were talking about
.
I think it would do us "northern southerners" a big favor!

I was thinking today that it looked like VA, WV and MD had been left out in the Regionals...good luck...I hope you get it. Jo

I was so intrigued by the name I had to have a look - I thought you'd be people from the Azores LOL ;o)

Glad to see the responses here. I've alerted everyone I can think of to visit this thread and offer their support - hopefully we'll be seeing more votes in favor of a Mid-Atlantic forum soon!

Linden, VA(Zone 6a)

I'd be there. I've wondered from the beginning of my participation in DG why we were left out of regional discussions.

Crozet, VA

Thank you rcn48 for the invite. I too want to participate. In fact, I live within two hours of rcn48. Okay folks, what's next to make this a reality. Looking forward to learning from those with more gardening experience than I have.

Summit, NJ(Zone 6b)

In terms of what type of gardening information applies to my yard, sometimes it's northeastern and sometimes mid-atlantic, so count me in.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6a)

Hopefully, there will be more interest as word gets out :) Do any of you listen to Andre Viette's radio show? He's got a really good grasp on the challenges of Mid Atlantic gardening !!

What a small world it is!! The Viettes (I believe it was Andre & his brother) used to (may still do) own a large nursery in Nassau County on Long Island. It was a lovely place, & I fondly remember purchasing several lovely Lungworts there for my medicinal herb display garden.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6a)

We've wanted to tour their gardens down in Virginia for some time now. Perhaps the Mid Atlantic folk will all get together one day and take a stroll.

My mom grew up on Long Island and that's where I was born :)

I've visited Blandy Arboretum & Monticello (which is GORGEOUS), but that's about it.

Crozet, VA

Andre Viette has a garden in New Hope Virginia. That is about a ten minute drive from where I used to live. Now only about a 45 minute drive and probably 45 or minutes for rcn48 also. I am now wondering if they maintain two houses in different state. The announcement of their Day Lily Festival weekend is on my local news, so I will certainly let the group know when that is announced. It would be great to maybe meet up with some of you that weekend. Okay, I just checked out his website and it is located in New Hope VA. It also has his speaking engagements thru March. I don't think his festival is until April or May sometime. Yep, sure is a small world.

Fredericksburg, VA(Zone 7a)

I listen to Andre every Saturday! Well this past Saturday it was Mark who was on. I can't believe all the Virginia gardeners! I must stay on the forums that don't have many Virginians because I keep my eyes open.

Breezymeadows: Just passed that Ice Cream and Worms shop last week on Rt3, I really had to laugh!

I can't wait to get out to the other Virginia and Maryland area gardens this spring. I spend a lot of time in the Fredericksburg area gardens with the other Master Gardeners (I am with the Central Rappahannock Master Gardeners Association if any of you are too! It will be a really small world!). I want to get down to Richmond's Lewis Ginter BG for some of their classes this year and activities.

If we do get together to meet at these things we are going to have to get DG t-shirts to wear!

Yes, that "Ice Cream & Bait" shop is a hoot, isn't it?? I'd love to meet whoever came up with that sign - lol!!!

Glen Burnie, MD(Zone 7a)

Oh HECK yes!!!!!!!!!!! I would love it.

Lexington, VA(Zone 6a)

mickgene and rubyw, thanks for stopping by to offer your support for this forum! Still waiting for a few other Virginians to check in.

Breezymeadow and Brent, glad to see you found this thread :) If anyone knows of other members who would be willing to cast a vote for our own forum, send them this way - we need more votes!

FYI, Viette's Daylily Festival is usually sometime in July. We've been there in the past and the fields are ablaze with color. Unfortunately, it's usually so darned hot that you don't feel much like lingering in the sun. But that's when you can visit the booths and food vendors while listening to the wonderful jazz band they usually have playing.

this would be great to have a Mid atlantic forum . after all we have such adiverse type of weather because we are affected so much by the bay.

Hi. I am new to DG and love this place! :) I also just bought a new home and have a blank canvas to start with. I can't wait for Spring! A Mid-Atlantic forum would be great help to me.

Charles Town, WV

Looks like we have a pretty good start for our own Mid-Atlantic Forum!!

Culpeper, VA(Zone 7a)

The MidAtlantic DEFINITELY deservers it's one forum!!! Goodness - look at our numbers & posts compared to any number of other forums here on DG. Some of them haven't had posts for days to a month!!!

Fredericksburg, VA(Zone 7a)

Breezymeadow, so how long before Dave notices? Do we have to recite a magical phrase next?

Quoting:
Dear Dave,
We are your Mid-Atlantic DGers who have greatly benefited from your time and hard work on this site, we are forever grateful.
We are humbly requesting to receive the gifts of your mighty cyber wand if you think we are deserving!

Signed
17 (and counting) Postees to Mid-Atlantic Thread

Would that work?
We have to get 10 or 20? Maybe a few more and he'll take pitty on us.

From watching other Regional Forums blossom, dave and/or Terry and/or Trish are pretty prompt about making decisions. Although I'm not a betting person, I'd venture to say we have a pretty good number of interested folks and hopefully, there'll be a MA Forum soon :)

Garityann - I'm the last person you should ask. I have absolutely no idea how Dave decides these things.

However, I do think a MidAtlantic forum would have much more traffic then many of the other forums started here.

Brockton, MA(Zone 6a)

Garityann, You must be getting darn close.
Seeing that we share similar conditions and zones I'll visit too.

Here's another vote -- a Mid Atlantic forum would be great! It would be nice to have it available for the spring planning/planting season.

Kylertown, PA(Zone 5b)

I'd sign up!

Charles Town, WV

Looks to me like we have plenty of people! Not to say that we couldn't have alot more! "Start spreading the news..." This would be awesome fun to have our own forum! I'm really looking forward to Dave saying yes!!

Lexington, VA(Zone 6a)

Shoot! I got all excited when I saw a new posting here http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/573259/, figured we finally had our own forum, but it was a new 'Invasives' forum!! Dave and Terry are you listening? We REALLY want our own forum - please?
