I ordered some packets of blue impatiens from www.secretseeds.com in Great Britian. They were promptly delivered, and have germinated in less than 5 days. No blooms, yet. We will see. Most single impatiens overwinter here and have naturalized here in Northwest Florida, so if I can get them started, I should be able to get a colony going.
CLOSED: Blue impatiens: Fact or fiction?
How did you get them to ship to you nwflhome? It says on the homepage they won't ship to the US.
Oof, good question Melissa... lol, if they could have been sweet talked into sending them here it would have saved a bunch of time ;).
No matter, the seeds arrived just fine. I just have to recalculate (everything) and load them into envelopes. I emptied all of the packs out and seperated out seeds that looked way too shriveled to be viable.. I think my judgement on that was pretty good.. and the end result is 10 seeds for each of us.. I thought it might be worse than that but hopefully we'll all get at least a few to germinate.
I'll be dividing up the cost differently (since we aren't receiving full packs) and for most of you the cost is just the cost of the one packet.. plus shipping (have to go get some padded envelopes today). I was hoping everyone who is waiting on seeds could send me an e-mail at DarwinESF@yahoo.com ASAP.. couple of reasons why that seems easiest for me, but I'll reply with your individual final cost and some options of how to pay (I do have paypal, or snail mail is fine too, I'm not going to wait for payments to get here (slight naivete on my part) but I will wait for the e-mails before I send these out.
:whew: This has been fun, really, but it's totally someone else's turn next time ;).
I am so happy they made it home; I was getting anxious in the few last days.
Good luck to everybody!
This thread may be deleted, I haven't heard from everyone yet but I will be posting seeds tomorrow morning and Monday if everyone could try to touch base with me (if you haven't already) so I can feel a little more assured (so I know how to expect payment) and so I can send a final cost before I put your seeds in the mail.
Seeds arrived today. Thank you, thank you, thank you. That was really nice of kyou Byron, to go through all that trouble for us.

I'm waiting to see if they are really blue...When they blossom I hope someone post a picture...
Tomtom,
Thank you so very much for posting your pics!!
Are you saying that you grew yours from seeds purchased from Secret Seeds?
Thanks,
Heather
Hi Tomtom are yours really Blue???I'd like to have the answer to Heathers question also..
Tomtom,
I think you were looking at them in the wrong light lol Mine are going to be ‘true blue’ lol Just as soon as I get a bloom, if ever lol
Mine look about the same height as yours, maybe I’ll get a bloom soon :)
I think the foliage is odd for an impatiens; I like it because it’s different, kind of elusive? Your plant looks so happy, is it in the sun or shade? Mine is in a wee bit morning sun. They are beautiful…
Got a new camera, not too fast with the learning thing, too many buttons and so little time lol maybe by the time I have a bloom the camera and I will be buddies.
blpender,
Don’t be discouraged, mine were very slow to grow at first and then they took off like lightning and doubled their size and they’re growing pretty fast now. I forget when I planted them about the first of April probably?
Lea
I started mine indoors, then moved them out to the deck, then into the garden. Think maybe mine get too much sun, but I'm afraid to move them again. The foliage looks so fragile.
blpender,
Are you having any rain there? I'd wait until a nice slow rain and move them, I think they are a lot sturdier than we think they are, they do look fragile, I had mine in the sun for a bit (they are in pots) and they didn't like it at all.
Lea
No, no rain, but I have the sprinklers on a lot. I have increased my shade bed by a width of an additional 3 feet, so have a good place for them. I think it is too sunny for them.
We are supposed to get T-storms the end of the week, and it is supposed to get hot. Maybe I need to do this before then.
Thats what color I thought they would be...
Mine has bloomed and I must say, I'm a little disapointed in the color but they are beautiful. I have tried to take pictures several times and it isn't working, I am not computer litterate lol (new camera), I bought this camera because I wanted to put so many picture on here and it just isn't working like I want it to, maybe later.
blpender, yours look great, I'm glad they are happy, they must like their new home :)
Lea
Agreed. I am a little disappointed as well. They are not the color of
"the ones in the picture". I guess I was naive to expect the photos to be unretouched and unenhanced. At any rate, they are pretty, even if they are purple. I am more than satisfied to have 5 mature plants from only 10 seeds.
Hello
According to the Kew Garden, the Flowers are bright ultramarine blue, with small white markings at center and yellow in throat.
Take a look at this photo: http://www.impatiens.biz/
Greetings

Hi Egil,
I like your name, I was lucky enough to get 3 out of my ten seeds (don't rub it in blpender lol), and the pictures look good on your link, but mine are the prettiest of purple :) Nice delicate plant, I will grow these again, I love it! But they are purple.
I wonder what the weather is like in Tibet and wonder if it would over winter here in my zone if I plant them close to the house, anybody know?
If I'm not back on here for a while it's because my lovely computer went out again....
Lea
Mine are not that color, nor are my stems woody. Actually, mine look quite fragile compared to the one on the link.
