Lily Silk Road

Millers Creek, NC

Has anyone tried this lily? If so, what do you think of it? I'm wanting to try one,but don't want to spend money I can't really afford if it doesn't measure up to its claim for fragrance and growth.

Corte Madera, CA

hello, rosella. gee, i'm everywhere, and so are you! lol.

moby grows "silk road."

Millers Creek, NC

Thanks, and yes, you might see me pop up anywhere or everywhere!! I like lots of different plants!!

(Sue) South Central, IA(Zone 5a)

I'm not moby, but I grow 'Silk Road' and last year (3rd year in ground for me) there were 5 blooming stalks where there originally was one. The plant was over 6' tall and well endowed with blooms. I'm expecting a real show this year form my patch of 'Silk Road' :-)

Corte Madera, CA

llilyfan, thanks for the info....are you an enabler, too? ;-)

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Hey llilyfan ~ you can be 'Moby' if you're up to it. ;)
Naw, llilyfan is very polite and not too much of an enabler but she is a lily fiend!

Rosella, nice to have you join us in the lily forum. There are a bunch of really smart cookies around here that can help you with just about any questions you may have. If you like Silk Road, then go for it, I don't think you'll be disappointed. :)

Millers Creek, NC

I think I'm going to order one today!! I wanted one last year and didn't get it,now I will treat myself,I deserve it,lol.Lilies are my very favorite flower.

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Of course you deserve lilies! :)

Columbia Heights, MN(Zone 4a)

I just planted Silk Road last year, so I haven't seen it yet. The info I have on this lily indicates that it has an extended flower period because it rebuds; sometimes once, sometimes twice. Can't wait to see that.

Lilyfan, have you seen that happen with your SIlk Road?

Millers Creek, NC

I'm going to order one a give it a try. I bought two oriential lilies today.Got the Yelloeween and Tom Pounce. Also bought the Black Out asiatic.Has anyone tried any of these lilies?

(Sue) South Central, IA(Zone 5a)

beaker,

I can't say that it 'rebuds' but it definately has a long blooming period with the secondary and the tertiary buds flowering after the main bud opens.

NO!!!!!!I don't think I could fill your shoes Mary! so I can't be moby.

am I an enabler? I've been known to help new lily addicts along their way :-) but like Mary said, I'm polite but a fiend for lilies.

Corte Madera, CA

=))) llilyfan.

didn't know moby has big feet. lol. i'm being really silly now. just kidding, of course.

rosella, i grew tom pouce last year (costco), and the lily craze started. the blooms are 8-10" across. wowee.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 2b)

Silk Road aka Northern Carillon - totally awesome. Grows to 12+_ ft in Manitoba.

Tough as old boots -

my oh my.

Millers Creek, NC

Thanks everyone, I'm so thrilled to hear the good reviews for my lilies!! Maybe I should buy another bag of the Tom Pouce ones too!! Gonna order that silk road tonight!!

Corte Madera, CA

rosella, is there a costco nearby? i know there are a few in NC. they have quite a selection this year.

=)

Columbia Heights, MN(Zone 4a)

Silk Road and Northern Carillon do look very much alike and I can understand why some people think they are the same plant, but they are not. SR was raised by Judith Freeman and NC by L.M.Collicutt & W.G.Ronald. The red coloring is slightly different with the SR being a crimson red and the NC being a purplish red. SR is also a more prolific bloomer and more fragrant. They both can grow very tall, especially if grown in shade.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 2b)

we won't get into that.

Am very sorry that I'll miss the Manitoba Lily Spring Seminar with Judith as the main speaker.

Fireworks??? I wonder.

Millers Creek, NC

Heck I don't care what you call it as long as it smells good and has the blooming power I'm looking for!!

Corte Madera, CA

that's the spirit =). lol.

i'm about to print out the order form. is this the way at TLG?

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

As opposed to ordering online?

Corte Madera, CA

mail, fax, or phone orders only moby? i have to check the site again. as you can tell, i'm new to TLG. i just go there to drool.

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

That's different! Maybe the only time I ordered from them was when we had a co-op in fall of 2004. Apparently I've done more shopping elsewhere than I thought.

Haydenville, MA(Zone 5a)

If you have access to a fax, I found that works well for orders from TLG. Have also emailed questions and gotten answers, but that took a bit longer...they are pretty busy some times of the year. An overall awsome group to do business with. Haven't ordered yet for spring....can't wait for the fall babies to come up.

Why thank you Moby - as will you :-)

Another lily grower that i have been really impressed with so far is Fogbelt - I ordered 24 Futuras this year and LATE - as no one else had them - and I got my shipment quickly and the bulbs were large and perfect. We'll see how they do this summer.

Moby--there you go bankrupting us all again.

Hey. llilyfan & Moby--Hit on Teresa. She said she's out digging 300 Lillies at her Dad's place. I'm going to trade her some daylilies if I ever get a CD together for her.

And Moby--NO ONE could replace you. It gives me shivers to just think of anyone trying! Besides, Sue is too nice & polite to be as bad as you & me! (snicker, snicker)

Millers Creek, NC

That fog place has some nice lilies, but man are they expensive!!Lowes has some of the same lilies ,orentials 5for 5.97,and asiatics 4 for 5.97,I think is what I paid for mine this week. Now if they had the madonna,I might be willing to buy that one!! I can't find one anywhere this year!!

Corte Madera, CA

steve, lovely lilies as usual! can't wait to see the rest of your collection. i got excited when i checked fogbelt and saw their area code (707). had no idea 707 goes way up north from me when it starts 30 minutes away. sigh.

rosella, i wonder what HD has....

Millers Creek, NC

I don't know about HD,we don't have one here. The bulbs I bought at Lowes are nice firm, healthy looking bulbs.I was very pleased to find them at those prices.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Steve - thanks for the link. Fog Belt has so many beauties. I knew I should have gone to bed at 10 PM!

Corte Madera, CA

hee-hee, too early for me to sleep =). oh, i must get MANILA from fogbelt. a little sentimental. city of my birth.
