Welcome Pam, we have an interesting bunch here.
Feel free to join in any time you get home sick.
I lived in the Mid-West for a few years, couldn't wait to get back here.
Check out the "Coffee's on" thread, too.
Andy P
Welcome to the NE Gardening forum!
yes - welcome!!! and come on over for a cup of coffee - we put an extra pot of decaf on for the evening..
Hi Pam! I don't think you can get any more New Englandy than Gloucester!
Dave
I'm originally from South Louisiana and still have an accent. My husband is from Denmark and English is his 3rd language.
My children were born here and you should hear them talk. It's the oddest blend of New England and the old south with Danish thrown in for extra confusion.
Lora
Lora, That sounds like fun..and maybe a bit confusing. How did you end up in MA? Halfway between Denmark & Louisiana?
Dave
It is fun. It's definately a conversation starter. Even in the grocery store.
I met my DH online in 1991, met him in RL in 1995 and we married in '97. I first moved to Copenhagen adn then we moved here (MA) in '99.
That's the short version on how I got from there to here. :-)
Throw in a bottle of wine and a single malt scotch and the story gets much more interesting!
Lora
ok - here's the scotch - let me go find the wine....
I'm new to DG and looking forward to Spring planting!
Hi new victim, I mean new friend, welcome!
I assure you we are all longing for spring!
Watch out for the interloper from Wisconsin, he can be a handful, or shovelful, depending on how you look at it.
Dena
Hi Kathie, We are almost neighbors! Welcome.
Thanks Dave! I lived in Guilford for many years and have been gardening in North Branford for about 10 years now.
Amazing how many people I've met who used to live in Guilford on DG. You near Rte. 80?
Off Valley Rd. near Van Wilgens (I spend tooo much time there!)
If you look at my" Favorite local nurseries" thread on this forum, you will see that I do to. My kids like it to because of the fish and all the special events. Natureworks is great too. Not nearly so many plants but she does great free garden walks. I always learn something from her.
Welcome Kathie - I'm an Island girl - just look across the sound...see me waving?
I love Natureworks also. I've taken many classes from Nancy and she's become a dear friend.
I have always had a large shade garden and this year have taken out about 30 trees (had to put in a new septic) and Nancy is teaching me alot about sun gardens. I am finally going to have a sun garden this year! She can usually order in the weird and unusual plants I can't find anywhere else.
Oh cool! I like her a lot but we don't really know each other. She knows my name because we have a common friend. But she always strikes me as very real & funny and those are 2 of my favorite traights.
Hi Kathie - welcome to the Midwest - O where am I again? Northeast? geez gotta layoff the generic gin. I have been to Massachusett's and Maine. I help out where I can here.
reallllly Al? Thats what you call what you do here?
I help! Don't I, I'm not helping?
LOL.
Y'all crack me up. :-)
I can't get here as often as I'd like and when I do, I read and read and read and when I get to the end of the thread, I find myself grinning at the computer.
Happy Mardi Gras!
LoraB.
Al - you are making me sing that darn song again!!!
They're coming to take me away, HA HA
They're coming to take me away, HO HO HEE HEE HA HA
To the funny farm
Where life is beautiful all the time
And I'll be happy to see
Those nice, young men
In their clean, white coats
And they're coming to take me away, Ha-haaa!
Lora - we do what we can! Glad to entertain! Glad for the company - glad you haven't run away yet!!!
Hello! Happy Mardi Gras to all and may there be fun & hope in N.O.!!
I'm from Cambridge, Mass. now in NW Connecticut. We are supposed to be zone 5 but i won't purchase anything greater than zone 4. My favorite shrub, winter hazel, ultimately failed, but many of you could grow this in your warmer areas.
On the other hand, tree peonies do very well here. If you live in CT you could make a trip to Cricket Hill Farms in Thomaston, CT. in May when their hundred or so tree peonies are in bloom. They have a beautiful brochure if you can't make it in person. Thanks for starting up this site.
Lent, Welcome to the forum. I never noticed that cricket hill was in CT. I'd love to visit. I planted my first tree peony last year & my fingers are crossed it survives the winter.
Dave
Our tree peonies have lasted for 3 yrs. or so, with all different kinds of winter weather. They want a bit of shade, but go to Cricket Farms and they'll fill you in. Call Cricket Farms for exact information about blooming times.
Hey Jamie - if you still check this thread - any good nurseries in our neck of the woods?
Hi, everyone! Don't be fooled by my California address -- I'm moving soon to upstate New York! (Washington County.) That will be Zone 4b -- three whole zones colder than where I live now. And I was just getting used to not freezing to death for months and months on end . . .
Anyway, I guess I'll need to figure out what grows in our new home. Even though there is no house on our land yet, I want to start planting in the existing woods. Azaleas? Laurels? Redbud trees? Will aspens live there? Can't wait to get started.
Hannelore
Welcome Hannelore! I've always liked that name. I think you'll find the company here very friendly and warm.
Thanks, Anita. I've enjoyed meeting some west coast DG'ers, and I'm looking forward to meeting some east coasters too.

Hi Cindilynn and all others,
Greetings from Luzerne County, PA. This is my first posting in a DG forum.
I'm borderline 5b/6a. It's usually not safe to transplant most of my vegetables until approaching Memorial Day. My perennial flowers do fine through the winter.
This is a fun and informative website. I wish I had found it sooner!
Kzorgo, Welcome!
