Search Engine Offline

What is the status with the search engine. It's still offline?

I was wondering the same thing. It has been hard to find anything so what I have been is going to google and doing an advance search. I type in what I want to find, then down in the field where it says "only return results from the site or domain" I type in davesgarden.com. It will then show you a listing of what you searched for.

The search engine is back online for now. If it starts slowing the site down again, I'll remove it until the new updated engine is finished.

The Google search is just useless for searching forums. I was trying to find a couple of threads in the rose forum where I had talked about Rio Samba. I typed in Rio Samba and got 8 pages of items. Only two items were from the forums and all the rest were from Plant Files. I tried getting more specific, asking google for Rose Forum Rio Samba, but all of those words are in Plant Files, so I got the same results. The threads where I had mentioned the rose were not included in those 8 pages of found items, incidentally.

Dont do the advansed search, just put in "Rio Samba" and Zuzu in the ordinary IE google and be sure to be looged in at Dave´s
here you have it

Be sure to put the " " also otherwise you end up with every site that mentions Rio or Samba :0))

Thank you, Tayson. That was extremely helpful. I never thought of adding Zuzu.

Still think the forum search through Google is useless. Although the tip from Tayson is helpful, if you aren't looking for a specific thread that you know someone who posted to, you can't find anything. :-( I wanted some info on growing Hibiscus from seed. I quit looking.

But it's better than nothing, which is what we had prior to putting the google search up, no?

I'm hopeful of having the "real" search engine back this week.

I may be mistaken but you can exclude from your search as well.
example
Zuzu -plantfiles

This should exclude all hits which contain PlantFiles

Wow, Bryan, that sounds like magic. It's the perfect solution. Thank you. Our life today and the services at our disposal get more sophisticated by the minute, and I'm not keeping up with most of them.
