HEY I want all of you to know this:
I, Soulgardenlove, the happy, personable gardener who is thrilled to wintersow this year, will accept any of your seeds regardless of how you spell the plant or don't, whether or not you know the latin name, whether or not you snatched it from someone elses garden when they were too asleep to know it was seed, whether or not the chaff is with the seed, whether or not you have tons of it and can't wait to get rid of it, and I will be gracious upon receiving it and thankful for your time, effort and help in my garden and most willing to send you whatever can be of help fo you as well. You can send me mystery seeds, and as long as the police aren't called out again for the time I grew those seeds I got on ebay, well, that's just fine with me! :)
Susan
I'm a little upset by an email
LMBO!!!
I wish more people had your attitude Susan!

I could see all of these issues being viewed as very serious. The accusations of misrepresentation, fraud or breach of contract are indeed serious offenses - & must be respected by all parties involved. But that is business, & this is pleasure - never the two shall meet! (Notwithstanding those gardeners who do what they love) But I will bet that most business owners have witnessed this ugliness first hand... somehow it is more acceptable, even expected when it comes to money. They don't belong in trading - they need to go to a store & start trouble there - & I am sure they do!
Don't allow the occasional not-so-pleasant experince to color your thinking - most people are good & wish only to help one another. That makes us the majority. That sort of poor attitude is like acid.
Julie
I would not pay much attention to it Susie. Anyone that knows you, would know that you are honest and genuine and generous beyond comparison! I can look out into my gardens and see the things you have given to me freely over the last 5-7 years and know without a doubt that you give with your heart. If you wanted to trade something you have for something spectacular, you certainly could hold your own in any number of Horticultural situations and make sure you get the "good" stuff. LOL Life is busy! We're all busy! It's not like you said you had 1000 year old lotus seeds from some Egyptian tomb! Let us thrash you with a thistle plant and move on. :)
Michele, there was the time I went exploring in Egypt........... Have I told you the story?(what? you've heard my stories before and don't fall for them anymore???Kell told you about the bug poo story didn't she?)
If you thrash me with a thistle, don't get any seeds in my garden please, I hate pulling those things up cause they have stickers(like everything else in Texas)!
Susie,
I just found this thread, and am so sorry you were upset. I agree with so many others - you are so generous, and should just ignore what happened.
Hugs,
Sharon
egads Cala! I am jut dumbfounded. apparently the person in question hasnt been around long enough to know what a wonderful person and what a generous trader you are. never mind him!
LOL
I have had a run in with a similar person (if you want to call them that). I was so upset that when i posted another thread I got peoples names mixed up. LOL! I know that everyone on that forum now thinks of me as a crazy old lady! You are the most delightful person!! Don't let it bother you. Mistakes happen!! I will be first in line to trade with you any day!!!
Hugs,
Melanie
I couldn't help reading through this thread. I can join in with the folks who have been "slapped". I'm not going into details, but have gotten a sharp word or two from a couple of people over the years. Sadly I try to stay away from specific forums, like Iris or daylily, (just examples) because there always seems to be a resident self acclaimed expert. Maybe they are professional, or just more experienced, but for pete sake, is this not for fun, a hobby?? I have received some trades that were totally inappropriate to my zone, or DOA, or the tiniest bit of life form imaginable to man, but I just take it in stride and go on, big deal. If I get asked what I think, I am honest and helpful, otherwise Move ON!!
This place is too much fun, and too many great people to let a few bullies put the fear in others! Legit
Hey, planting_nut, that guy on the other website that examined the seeds you sent him and accused you of sending sterile seeds---if he asked for those specific seeds, he should have already known that plant produced mostly sterile seeds anyway, don't you think? What a jerk!
Hey planting_nut,
That guy on the other website that used a microscope to examine the seeds you sent to him and then accused you of sending him sterile seeds should have already known that the plant produced mostly sterile seeds if he wanted seeds from that particular plant. Don't you think? What a jerk!
Don't feel bad, here is my story.
I tried to trade with someone and they knew all the botanical names of everything. Well, I didn't (and still don't), so I asked was the common name was and perhaps I would recognize them.
The response I got was this:
"My seeds are not common" and "your seeds are the common ones", I was shocked and felt really bad, because that is not what I mean't when I asked. Talk about being "Misunderstood"..
Cala, received my seeds yesterday... Thanks bunches..
A.
I have been chewed on for posting "weeds" in a natives thread, and had one member not sent house plant cuttings claiming mine never made it there (yes I have tracking and yes it did make it there)... What do I do now? I trade less but I still trade and I have no plans to stop, I just crossed them off my list to ever deal with. Do your best and only trade with those willing to take you best!
Gourd, I got your seeds too! Thanks a bunch!
I think your trader takes the prize for rudeness!
Susie, I hope you sent Gourd some of those precious lotus seeds. ;)
Calalily,
It never fails to amaze me how some folks can take what is supposed to be a fun, rewarding hobby and make it into an uptight business agreement. Have dealt with some traders who do count the individual seeds or send an email if any little bit of chaff is left in the seeds. Life is too short to sit down and count out exactly 25 teensy little seeds, so traders usually get a lot more from the more from a more laid back gardener.
Not all of us are professional botanists either and it takes a long time to learn all the scientific names of plants (years in college for some) so don't allow someone to make you feel bad. It is especially offensive that someone who was not even involved in your trade would send you such an email. I am with the others: Laugh it Off.
Barb
Michele, I would have sent her some but Bleu stepped on them.(oh, you've heard that tale before too?) OK, here is what really happened: I had my microscope out inspecting the germ of the seed. I have a super powerful microscope that can tell if seeds are viable or not. Well, I only knew the common name so I couldn't reference my vast library of botanical plates to see what exactly the germ was supposed to look like. I had a jar of wheat germ and I thought it might look a little bit like that, but while trying to figure out how to spell the botanical name of the seed, I knocked the wheat germ over and dropped the lotus seeds into it. Elliot the bird thought it was birdfood and ate it all up. That's my story(well, gleaned from everyone's experience, so it's sort of my story) and I'm sticking to it till I can come up with a better one!
Rotf!
"The Bird Ate My Homework"............haven't heard that one before....lol.
best,
don
ROFL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well I'm just now seeing this post I have to say Susie sends out great trades. If she sent out the wrong thing it was an honest mistake. As for the story above I'm sure she was framed. lol
Peggy, you know how I'm always getting framed! Bleu did it I tell ya, he's got the biggest feet I've ever seen on a dog and he is a seed thief(and a plant thief too, did I ever tell you about when he stole my shaving brush tree?)
Susie, I vote that we all copy your "hybridized" story and keep it on hand as a 'ready made' reply to all the jerks we run into. Ya didn't copyright that did ya??? lol
~Bren
I got to "the bird ate my homework!" and howled - I love it.
Some people, as my grandpa used to say "have got their stays laced too tight!"
No copyright, you can use it anytime.
Thanks!
Reminds me of: "The dog ate my homework - I had to force him, but he ate it!"
Oh my, that one is funny!
I don't think I've even traded with anyone that's posted here. But, from talking to everyone on chat and on the forums I know y'all are good folks...as are most folks at DG...and everyone here has a great sense of humor. So, more than likely whoever this person was, it was someone from that "other" site....so, here's to them!!! (I hope I don't get in trouble for this, but I just couldn't resist!!!)
Give it a bit to load, it is most definately worth it. LOL

OMG Susie! You are on a roll! LOL Poor Bleu gets blamed for everything and now you have dragged little Elliott onto the guilty list?? For shame!
I have one for you guys! Most of you know, we gave up our city life and moved out to the country, on a little farm. One of my girls came home from school the other day cracking up. Seems one of the kids at school has a unique story about a book that was damaged. He was out in the field visiting his cow when his horse showed up. So he left the cow to visit the horse. I guess the cow was jealous and decided to eat part of the book and ripped out several pages. He had to go to school and tell the teacher "the cow ate his homework"! ROTF That would have never happened at our OTHER house!
Oh my, that is worse than when I had to go to the SSA to get Lauren a new SS card. The dog really had chewed it up and they just laughed and laughed! I kept hearing them say "the dog ate my homework"
Honest, the dog chewed it up. It wasn't Bleu, so he's not getting framed!
Literary cows?
Anti Social Security Dogs?
What's next a pet Komodo Dragon that chased the mailman away so I didn't get that bill paid on time?
Our horses stick to eating hay......mostly...lol.
This is a pic of our Elliot. I think the avian version is probably less cantankerous, but this Elliot will be 24 this year so I guess he's earned his attitude.
Isn't it great how a negative experience can be segue-d into an episode of Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom?.....We're Marlon Perkins when you need him? DG is truly a community of chlorophyll loving nutballs....lol.
best to all,
don
HeathJoy, That is fun!!
Susan
Cala, I'm so sorry this happened to you. Why is it that more and more often I see a post where someone has had an email sent to them privately berating them for something they "said" on the site.... I think if anyone ever did that to me, I'd have to post the email so that everyone would know who they were.... I think if some of these people were afraid they'd be outed publicly, they'd not be so bold.
I am really sorry this happened to you Cala... and I just don't understand how anyone can think they have a "right" or a reason to be like that to someone else, particuarly when it's none of their business in the first place.
I agree with what shihtzumom said above... and I'm afraid it's only going to get worse, and Legit you don't see me around in one of the places you mentioned much anymore at all, for a lot of the same reasons. Someone sent me seeds labeled as datura last year.. me not knowing what they looked like, planted them in a container-- I got the most lovely container full of Zinnias I've ever had... I emailed them to let them know, and told them it didn't bother me, the zinnia's were gorgeous... but I think they believed I mixed up the seeds, not them. :-)
Badseed that funny!!! On the way to my mother in law's yesterda I saw a cow licking the side of a to-go container that had blown into his pasture. Guess he was sick of grass!!
I don't trade seeds anymore. When I first became a member here, I did trade for awhile. I am bontanically challenged , and only knew the common names for the seeds. Most traders understood and accepted that. I got a nasty email saying if I was too lazy to remove every bit of chafe from the seeds, I shouldn't consider myself a gardener and thereby should not trade seeds. I laughed and realized, he was right, I'm not a "gardener" I just love to grow flowers. Lou
Some people just don't have a life other than searching the forums looking for trouble.
I'll have to agree with Legit, tis so true unfortunately.
You just have to be Above them . Not let them get to you. It could really bring a person down.
kathy
Lou, have you ever noticed that whatever walk of life you enter, there are some folks who want to push other people around by any means they can. It starts in infancy when their mother's don't teach them to share, and if they can't be nice they can't play. Unfortunately some people never progress beyond that......they just get older and better at it. A wise person once advised me to "consider the source" and let it go. Hard sometimes, but great advice. Life is too short to sweat the small stuff. Want to trade anything?? (PS, don't tell anyone, but I may have some chaff too, OH NO!!) Legit
Oh, its just very sad that there are some traders that take this soooo seriously that they forget this is supposed to be a media to make friends, share and help others.
Just use your judgement, pick those that are the good traders, those that are eggshell, just ignore.
If you really have an issue let dave know.
But dont fret there are many great people here, enjoy them!!!!
Dispatcher.... Botanically challenged!! LOL!! I like that!!!
Nicole
I never got upset about it, though I'm sure that was his intent. It struck me as true and very humorous and I just laughed it off and laughed at my self. All he accomplished was giving me a good laugh. Lou
