You know, I knew I couldn't start anything from seed.
My poor babies in the picture above are painfully dieing with each and every day. I think they may have gotton a draft of or cold from the window and every day they look more and more shriveled up. I am SO heartbroken as I was SO proud of myself when I took the picture above.

I have 5 more seeds and these I'm going to try to grow outside during June instead of trying them in the house.

I knew I needed something with roots *lol* but I THOUGHT.....I'll try seeds again. I can't grow seeds and it's hard for me to accept that :(

Broken hearted,
Kim

Kim,

Don't give up!!! You have that wonderful gift of creativity. I know you can do this.

It sounds like you've had some damping off. Is there a dark spot on the stem near the soil level?

Please try again. I'm doing seeds for the first time this year and have had some major disasters, but it's worth it. Hint: don't go on vacation when the daylily seeds sprouting in peroxide-water are sprouting or you may come home to a fungoid mess! I'll send you more seeds if you have trouble with your June try.

Anyone else have an idea for her?

Leslie, you are so sweet. No, I don't think it was dampening off as they are still standing but the leaves have all withered. I think they got a draft as it's still very cold here in Maine and 1 day we did have nice sunshine so I took them off the heating pad and I think they got a draft. The next day I could see the leaves folding up and dying. I am not a good seedling mommy for some reason. IF anyone is able to grow these to a rooted plant, I would love to acquire one as I truly would LOVE to grow this even if I have to bring it in for the winter.

Thank you again,
Kim

Leslie,
Do you still have your Dwarf Poinciana seeds available? It's really neat to see so many of your seeds become so many others "babies"! Must feel sort of like a surrogate mother, huh, lol.
I'll send out a sasbe out in tomorrows mail if you still have some.
Thanks & happy gardening,
Debra

Hi Debra,

I do! I feel like my tree is spreading beauty all over the country. I LOVE the idea. I'd be glad to send you some.

Leslie, I was successful getting a seedling from the red dwarf poincianas you sent me. I had 3-4 but I forgot to water and they didn't survive (bending head in shame....)

This year I bought a package soil labeled "for seed sowing" (or something like that) at walmart and that was what I used for all my seeds. I put the seed trays under a lamp for about 12 hours/day. Got red dwarf poinciana, hot peppers, 1 solitary coleus and some black eye susan vine (the pink one--blusing susie, I think). The other thing I did this year was to use a spray bottle for watering. In previous years I had problems with dampoff, but had no such problem this year. Only thing is, you have to be disciplined about watering because the lights dry the soil medium pretty fast.

Soon I will post a pic of my poinciana. I just transplanted it and it is presently outdoors, getting acclimated. Again, thanks so much for sharing. Know that a little bit of you is alive and well in Richmond, Texas!

Hi Nery,

I'm glad about your seedling. Thank you for sharing your information on how you did it! I'm sure it will help others.

Marie,
Your package arrived yesterday and will go out today. I'm adding some seeds for your gardening group.

Have fun!

Hi Leslie,
If you still have any of the Dwarf Poinciana seeds available I'd like to trade SASBE for some.
Thanks
