Dwarf Poinciana seeds #2

Chapin, SC(Zone 7b)

Hi Everyone,

I still have plenty of Dwarf Poinciana seeds to give out. I've been sending them in sets of 10. If you need more than that just let me know. Send a stamped (2 stamps) self-addressed bubble envelope to:

Leslie Mauck
2420 McIntosh Way
Maitland, FL 32751

On the envelope please indicate that it's for the dwarf poinciana and how many seeds you need. Also, please put your DG name so I can check you off the list. Would those who have contacted me before please let me know if you are still interested and if you've sent your envelope? I'll be creating a new distribution list.

Vicki has some great info on the old thread about this gorgeous shrub/tree and how to do the seeds.

Happy Gardening,

Leslie

You bet! Please send pics as they're coming along. I haven't planted any myself as I have Mama.

Denton, TX(Zone 7a)

You sent me some before...but now that I want to plant them...they have hidden! And they are well hidden, too! So please, can I have some more? I will send the stamps and envelope as soon as I hear from you...
Thanks

Chapin, SC(Zone 7b)

Of course, Melvatoo! I'd be happy to send more.

Denton, TX(Zone 7a)

Melvatoo,

That is too funny! Sounds just like something I would do. Thanks for the smile.

Leslie

west Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

What's the germination time on these?

Chapin, SC(Zone 7b)

dmj1218,

I've been off Dave's for a while. I'm not sure. You might ask Melva, above, as she's growing them now.

Leslie

Denton, TX(Zone 7a)

I have one plant growing, I think it took about a week to sprout. I was wondering if you have more seeds...I would like to plant more of them.

Chapin, SC(Zone 7b)

Hi Melva,

I still have plenty and would be happy to share.

Leslie

Denton, TX(Zone 7a)

Thank you Leslie, what do I need to do?

Chapin, SC(Zone 7b)

Same as before, just send a bubble mailer. I've found the best way is to address it to yourself and put postage on it. One stamp has usually worked. Then cover that with a sheet of paper with my address and postage to get it to me. Tape the paper in place and I'll take it off when it gets here. Voila! It's ready to send back to you.

LOL. If you're the one who taught me that trick in the first place, thanks! I learned it from someone who got these seeds. Let me know how many seeds you want. I have plenty.

Leslie

Denton, TX(Zone 7a)

I would be glad to take the credit, but it wasn't me! I will send you a envelope tomorrow.

Hooks, TX

Count me in for 20 seeds, please. I'm on the border for hardiness (to 10 F) in zone 7, but will try to plant in a semi-protected place.

I remember reading on some other thread about postage for a bubble env.
It has to be hand stamped and costs more than one regular stamp. Seems
like it was 59 cents with the new rates - uesd to be 48, maybe. I'll call the post office tomorrow.

Louise

Northern Piedmont, NC(Zone 7b)

Leslie, I'd love to try some seeds if you have any left.

Thanks.....Jean

Chapin, SC(Zone 7b)

Louise,

Thanks for the heads up. I was going by weight only. I have usually put two on when I send them just in case. Now I'm glad I did!

Louise and Jean,

You two are in for seeds.

Leslie

Northern Piedmont, NC(Zone 7b)

Thanks Leslie! I'll get a sasbe off to you right away.

Jean

Hooks, TX

I mailed my envelope at post office today. Postage for the empty bubble 6 x 9 inch is now $ .52. I added another $ .24 on the return postage to allow for the weight of the seeds. Hope that is enough.

Louise

Memphis, TN

Leslie,

I'm not clear exactly how you describe to send a SASE/BE for seeds.

Once you remove the covered up address how is the return postage accounted for, especially since the postage to get the SASE there would have already been cancelled?

Maybe I'm just not thinking through this clearly.

Thanks,
Pete

Drumheller, Alberta, Canada(Zone 3a)

Hi Leslie,
I would love to try these seeds.
I am in Canada but I have US postage to put on the envelope for the return trip. Do you have any problems with sending them to Canada?
PLMK,
Dawna

Chapin, SC(Zone 7b)

Pete,
You address the bubble envelope and put postage on it just like you were going to mail it to yourself. Then you cut a piece of paper large enough to cover the whole front of the envelope, covering your name and postage too, and tape that in place. The cover sheet will have cancelled postage when it arrives but the postage actually on the envelope will be OK. Does that help?

Dawna,
No problem sending to Canada. I'd be glad to.

Drumheller, Alberta, Canada(Zone 3a)

Thanks so much Leslie. SASBE on it's way!

Concord, CA(Zone 9a)

Hi,
I need some help. My seeds grew rapidly and looked great, I started them is those little round peat things. When they had 2 sets of leaves I planted them (the peat things and all in 4" pots. Now most of them are on their way out. Limp and not doing very well. I have them in the house and they get good light in the kitchen window sill.
What am I doing wrong? Any help you can give would be great. By the way they were about 3-4" tall when this happened.
I could just cry.
Linda

Paradise, TX(Zone 8a)

Leslie,
Would love to have 2 sets if you have enough available. I have some chaste tree seeds and orange/red noah morning glory seeds I can add in my SASBE to you if you'd like some....plmk!
Happy gardening and thans for sharing!
darmadoll :0)

Chapin, SC(Zone 7b)

Hi darmadoll,

Thanks for your kind offer but I'll pass. I'd be happy to send you some seeds. Send your bubbler and I'll get them out to you.

Leslie

Kennebunk, ME(Zone 5a)

I have another huge pot that I would like to try something in. This looks like the perfect plant for my pot! I have read up on it and know it's not hardy in Maine but I would be willing to overwinter such a beautiful plant inside that's for sure! Right now I have a 5 foot Brugmansia in my kitchen *lol*.

If you still have seeds to share, I would LOVE to receive some.

I will mail my bubble envelope Monday if you do. Please let me know.

I appreciate the offer so much. If there is something you are looking for please let me know.

Sincerely,
Kim

Hi Kim,

I'd be happy to share with you! It is a fun plant. Send your bubbler on.

The only thing I'm looking for are old fashioned violets to do a border with.

Happy Gardening,

Leslie

Kennebunk, ME(Zone 5a)

I am SO tickled Leslie and Thank You So Much! I don't have any of the old fashioned violets (wild violets that grow in my lawn though) or I would have been happy to share.
I will put my mailer in the mail to you on Monday and I thank you again so much!

Kim

Chapin, SC(Zone 7b)

Kim,

I think your wild ones are the ones I'm looking for. Do they have heart shaped leaves and purple flowers?

Kennebunk, ME(Zone 5a)

Yes, they are little and grow EVERYWHERE in my lawn. What makes it worse is they go to seed in the fall and the next spring.........more everywhere. They live through our Maine winters with no problem so these little things are tough! I'm not sure the leaves are heart shaped though, I seem to remember them having a pointed lance type leaf...Let me see if I can find a picture on the web.....

Here is what mine look like:

http://www.garden.org/weedlibrary/index.php?q=show&id=2397

They are a weed for sure but cute when in bloom.

If you truly want some just let me know and I will be happy to dig and send you them!
Can I interest you in some beautiful dandelions or wild strawberries *lol*

Kim

Chapin, SC(Zone 7b)

OK, OK, I'm laughing too. I guess that's not what I'm looking for and I already have far more dandelions than I can handle, thank you very much! I'll just send the seeds.

Les

Kennebunk, ME(Zone 5a)

*lol*.....be careful what you wish for *lol*. I can't get rid of the stinkers. Even worse though is the Wild Strawberry. Those things send up the runners from hell I tell ya *lol* Then I have the dandelions and the hazelnut trees to tend to which grow back 2 for every 1 you dig. It's alot of fun......NOT!

Thank you so much for the seeds though, my mailer is going out in the morning. Have to stop at the PO for some stamps. I greatly appreciate it and hope that I can get some of these to germinate. I have NEVER had any luck with seeds so I'm trying my hand at winter sowing this year. IF I get 1 to grow I will be SO Happy!

Thank you again,
Kim

South West, LA(Zone 9a)

If you still have some I would like to send SASBE. Just one order should be fine.
Thanks
Caren

Chapin, SC(Zone 7b)

No problem Caren. I have plenty.

Leslie

Kennebunk, ME(Zone 5a)

Hello Leslie,

My envelope went in the mail to you this morning.
I thank you again for sharing and will be happy to send you some Violet weeds if you change your mind *lol*.

Sincerely,
Kim

Chapin, SC(Zone 7b)

Linda,

Did you figure it out? The same thing just happened to the Royal Poinciana seedlings I'm growing. Bummer!

Leslie
