Coffee and.....For, Saturday, January 21, 2006
Morning everyone!! Went to bed at 8pm as DH was watching that wrestling junk on TV. The minute I lay down, I am gone....hence, up with the birds this morning - but a good sleep.
Man, did it snow out!! Wish I had a pic to show you. They are saying to stay off the roads unless it is an emergency - think going to a creative memory party qualifies as an emergency??? It is four hours until the party, so I will just lay low until then.
Defoe- oops just ate the last scone - sorry, but I think I will make another batch - they need a little more sugar on top before I share them. I am downing them with a diet coke tho- fell off the wagon....
VA - Use that 2x4 - can you believe the nerve of your replacement!! Leave him in the dust for awhile, maybe he will have to call you to bail him out....doesn't that just fry ya when they don't do what they are supposed to!
We've had everything paid for for years - we've only financed three things in our life time - our house, a snowmobile (how stupid), and one vehicle. Everything else has been cash up front. I think this is a feat that is unheard of in this day and age. I've told my boys, but they do everything in charge cards. I just shake my head, but it is their life and I try not to intrude (too much!!)
I have one friend that maxes our her credit card, and continually shifts the amount to 0% interest ones - and she opens several....she just barely makes the minimum payment. She is just a dear person and so generous, but her finances are in shambles. Here is an example of what she does. My mom had surgery and this friend sent her flowers!! She has never even met my mom!! Heck, even us, her own kids, didn't send her flowers!! (I got her a sweat suit so she wouldn't have to pull up jeans!!) Now that is very generous of her, but kinda silly in my book - a card would have been just fine...OH well, different strokes for different folks!
Blooms- phew- guess I know I won't get addicted, but I am a worrier ya know!! I never want to be addicted to anything whether it be pills or DH!! I grew up with an alcoholic for a father and I know the trouble it causes, so I am afraid of anything like that!! pills, liquor etc.
Well, I need to get moving- I have a veggie tray to prepare, BLT dip to make and a long talk with my sister. Won't be able to do our 3 hrs talk today as I have to get on the road!! Oh, and have to get my hair to behave - that may take awhile as it is sticking up in all directions!! I look a sight...
It is very easy for young peole to fall into the credit trap. Everywhere they turn there is credit offered. Then they wind up borrowing at high rates and never understand how to use credit. People like developers and and contractors can use credit to make money. I have a developer friend here taught me that lesson very well. He was building a new home that I was helping with and he is a multi- millionaire. I said " Well Dave sooner we get this place done you will get your money back in spades" He said "MY MONEY I do not use my money. I go to the bank and borrow it and use other peoples money. I keep my money working in other stuff." Unfortunately we are all the other people. A lot of this is short term loans. but it is still scary to me.

Morning! We're on our second pot of coffee already, sammi is tearing around like a NASCAR champion, Souky has retreated to high ground, and Mini is snoozing in the unmade bed. We had about 4 or 5 inches of snow last night, and the sun is shining so all's right with the world for the moment.
VAnn, I think you need to make a not too gentle suggestion to your replacement that he can't count on volunteers to pick up his duties, and that you are going to be unavailable for the next several weeks. That might light a little fire under him, and get him started on the job he is being *paid* to do. Or maybe not, but that will be his problem, won't it?
I'll come back later and comment further, but I need to get breakfast going etc. and I'm burning daylight......
Sarv, we've got the snow here too now. The pics below were just taken out the window of my computer room. The snow is still coming down in great big clumps. Maybe I'll finally be able to get out on snowshoes Monday afternoon.
We had dinner at a Japanese restaurant downtown last evening (deferred from Friday the 13th as DH was in Europe). Afterwards, walked a couple of blocks to a shopping street and DH bought a shirt on sale. I had been planning to stop by the sports shoe store that sells New Balance and it was right across the street. Ended up with a pair of New Balance winter walkers - waterproof, no nonsense sole. With my narrow foot, they will fit better than most boots. But they are too short for the kind of snow we are getting today.
Woke up around 3 and spent the rest of the night kind of restless. I think I was thinking of all the remaining things that need to be done at FC before I retire. I think I'll go in now and finish off the tax receipts, press release about his appointment, change of contact info for a few places, etc. Trouble is my replacement said he'd be there learning the program for client data. It's on a different computer in a different room; so as long as he sticks to business it should work OK. If he interrupts me too much, I'm outta there. But I'll use the 2x 4 first. LOL
I think paying for things is a trait that is unique to those of us who grew up before there were VISA cards. We look on the VISA or MC as an interest-free loan which it is if you always pay it off in full. Unfortunately, the kids look at them as a quick way to get what they want and don't think of the consequences down the road. At least mine used to. Both have gotten into trouble with credit cards and I think both have smartened up, the daughter in Vancouver, especially. DD#1 here in Ottawa has a spend-thrift husband to contend with, but even they have cut up some of their cards.
Sarv, re your hair, put on a hat and then blame the hair on the hat. We all have to contend with hat hair at this time of year.
Hi to the rest of you. Have a good day.
Ann

Hi All,
Wow, everyone must be busy today,,,not a post in a few hours.
Just got done working,,,,having some lunch now,,,have a few things to get to today,,,but for me Sat. afternoons are my lazy time. I'll take a nap a little later. Bill is gone to some snowmobile races for the afternoon and then they will probably go to the bar for a couple beers. So, I have the house to myself!! Love it!!!
Wonderfully sunny today.
sarv,
Your poor friend,,,and I mean that both ways,,,she'll learn someday. Glad to hear you got a good nights sleep. Xanex,,,I have been on it 4x a day for a few months and I'm not even dependant. I do have a high tolerance for meds though.
oz,
For some people, it makes sense to use other peoples money. Like with your friend. Bill had his own contracting business for a few years,,,I know what the guy means.
M5,
Poor Souky,,,,LOL,,,The snow all stayed down your way,,,we got Nothing. WE only have about 2-3 inches on the ground right now.
Ann,
Sounds like you and DH had a very nice evening. Good for both of you. Sorry to hear you had so much on your mind that you couldn't sleep. It'll be soon that you won't have to worry about any of it anymore. Hang tight til then. Pretty pics of the snow.
Well, off to look at some other threads. I'll pop in later on.
Hope everyone has a wonderful day.
Kelly
I am sure my son will do it also. That is bussiness. After they pay all the stuff they have to pay they better look for interest short cuts.
Ann When I was about 25 I could have bought a $100,000 life insurance policy that I could borrow on interest free. I think it was about $15 a month for life. My DML and that D does not stand for dear. Yakking about beoing insurance poor. Wife got upset and let it go. Stupidest thing I ever done. I have a friend woh has bought several new cars a couple of boats and other things and has never paid a dimes interest. Just pay what he took out back to the insurance com pany and he still has $100k Policy.
Hey all, haven't posted much for a few days... have good news and not so good news and terrible news. Good news, my shoulder doesn't hurt at all. DR now thinks it is a nerve. When it starts to hurt again I go in for some testing on the nerve. Not so good news, I have a massive sinus infection. Can't even touch the left side of my face. I am pretty much immune to antiboitics because I hae chronic sinus infections so me and nyquil and dayquil are gonna be buddies for a while.
The terrible news is, my kitten, Zoe, had to be put down last night. She got into my poinsettia. We found her in seizures with blood coming from her nose and eyes. The poinsettias went out to the curb in a double garbage bag. I *thought* I had taught her to stay out of them. No more, ever. No more cats, either at least not for a long time. DH was really really upset. He swore he didn't like her, but it really affected him.
I'm not feeling good, so I'll be back later maybe. Sorry. I have been reading the posts, just not feeling up to answering
Hugs,
Janis
Janis,
Glad to hear your shoulder isn't hurting. Sorry to hear about the sinus infection,,,ouch,,I get them also and they are so painful.
So, So sorry to hear about Zoe,,,,,,What a heart breaking thing to see and go through. I feel soooo bad for you. I will be thinking of you and saying a prayer.
((((Janis))))
Kelly
Good Afternoon!
I just spent alot of time making posts in the "Clean and Clutterfree" Forum: http://davesgarden.com/place/t/568547/ and "Home Budgets and Finances": http://davesgarden.com/place/t/570016/
Now that I have posted them, I'd better start being better about doing them!
We got about 4 inches of snow last night. Everything looks pretty again and we desperately need the moisture. We are so far in the hole from the drought last year, I'm worried.
I have put off getting my hair cut far too long, lol. My bangs are hanging in my face again and they are really irritating me to the point of self-barbery. Did you feel that??? That was Kelly shuddering!! ;oP So I guess I had better go to the "Haircut store" as Jenna calls it.
The Laundry Beast is winning this week, sigh. I've had Jenna home sick since Tuesday, and my back still hurts a bit from the Lithotripsy, so I've been slacking. Really really slacking, lol. I'll be doing battle all weekend.
Nathan is very relieved the first semester is over. He dug himself into a homework hole that he couldn't get out of and ended up failing a few classes. This kid is soooo smart and it just drives me crazy with frustration that he can't seem to grasp the concept of homework! We are hoping that the Psych evaluation that he starts on Thursday will give us some insight. Currently he is diagnosed as ADHD/ODD, PDD-NOS and Dysgraphic. All that translates to: Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder/Oppositional Defiance Disorder, Pervasive Developmental Disorder - Not Otherwise Specified and Dysgraphia. This will be a lengthy evaluation and will take several sessions. It took alot of arm bending and hair pulling to get this funded and the Dr that will be doing it is highly respected. If it comes out the way I suspect, Nathan will finally be diagnosed as Bi-Polar and we can get him on more appropriate meds. His school future is pretty much hanging on this evaluation. He may end up out of the mainstream high school an into a therapeutic classroom setting. We'll see.
I think I am going to play hooky tomorrow with Jenna. There is a ice show in town with 3 Disney stories in it and she saw the commercial and got really excited. I think she and I will really enjoy it if the tickets aren't outrageous. If we go I'll make sure she dresses really warm after she has been sick all week, lol.
Anyway.....
mg
Well, I have been out and about today. DGD and I ran some errands, then she had a friend come to play. I went out to the garage and cleaned the car, and now am starting to think about fixing something for supper. After that, I have a little 3 shelf mini-mini- greenhouse, total size is about 3x5 and is about 4 ft high. Last year the wind demolished the plastic on it, so I am going to try to replace it. This little structure will hold about 9 trays of seeds. So it does help, but I WANT A BIG ONE!!
We normally go out to eat on Saturdays, but will eat in tonight, then after church tomorrow going to see DMIL, so we will eat out then.
Not rubbing it in, but our weather is sunny and about 50. So it's kinda nice. VA, saw the snow picture, you northerners can just keep it there, please.
Looks like everybody is busy today, as there are not many posts.
I will be back later, so I'm off to the kitchen now, for some cooking.
This is what we got last night. DH always complains about the snow but he won't consider relocating anywhere else when he retires. Had a wasted day doing nothing except making breakfast and cleaning up the kitchen. I hate it when the sun gets low on the horizon and I see all the dust and cat hair that's landed on the counter tops. Seems like I spend endless hours wiping them off, and POOF!! there it is again.
Going to visit oldest DD to see their new entry way door. They took out a double door that had no lights, and the entry was as dark as a coal mine. We papered it 18 years ago when they bought the house, got rid of flocked red wallpaper LOL so the whole area was long overdue for improvements. I was hoping to see it in daylight because the new door has a window and they have side lights now so the morning sun will come pouring in. She did a textured wall paint, she's very good at it so I'm excited for her. Then we are going to our favorite chinese restaurant with them, which will be fun.
Sammi got his front nails trimmed today. He was nice and drowsy and very cooperative. Souky came in a took a nap with me this afternoon, and was so happy to cuddle with me and not have the little demon after her.
Amandapanda is looking beautiful, MaryE, she's thriving under your care.
Woofens, I'm so sorry to hear about Zoe....poinsettias are not supposed to be poisonous, according to our vet, and most reference sources. Are you sure that was the cause? Knowing all the things they can get into, I try to use all nontoxic cleaners all around the house but especially for anything they walk on, like carpeting and countertops. It's so sad to lose a pet. I screen all my house plants before I buy them, to make sure they don't cause problems. Sammi has been batting at the Aloe, but he said it's been threatening him. Aloe is harmless. The girls don't bother the plants at all.
I think I better not leave the house in sweats. Time to clean up. Later.
Found this on one the many cata reference sites.
Poinsettias are not poisonous, but the alkaloids in the leaf tissue can cause irritation to the mucus membranes of the mouth and throat. It can be possible for a plant to have been treated with a systemic pesticide that, when ingested by a cat, will reach a lethal dose.
I know this doesn't help after the fact. So sorry for your loss.
sorry for not posting. i have been very sick and couldn't even sit back here. so you know that was sick. lol
have been throwing up, think it is the meds, so i am trying to cut back.
so need to go already.
susan
woofens, iam so sorry about zoe. i am having a cry over her too. soooo sorry.
Thanks guys. I'll bet it was a pesticide, cause the plant looked like she had been at it a while. When I talked to morning gayle last night she said it sounded like poisoning or liver failure. Who knows. I just didn't want her to suffer. aand she was, she wouldn't even try to walk or to stand and she as shaking and bleeding. It was awful :9
Sorry to be graphic.. it just breaks my heart.
hugs
Janis
mg,
Step Away From the Scissors!!!!!!! Just put them down and walk away!!! I Am shuddering,,,,go to the haircut store,,,LOL Hope your back starts feeling better soon. What a frustrating thing. I am so glad to hear Nathan will be getting all the evaluations. How wonderful for him and for you and DH. Hopefully, like you said, he can get an accurate diagnosis and get on the correct meds,,,,will make a World of difference!!! I hope those tickets are reasonable,,,how fun. I remember when we were young and my Dad took us to the Ice Capades,,,,was Wonderful!
dcat,
Good luck replacing the plastic,,,hope it can be done. Don't blame you for wanting a bigger one. I have an 8'x8' that I put up in spring and take down when everything is out of it. Love it! Hope you have a good day with MIL.
M5,
Will be wonderful to see DD house now that it's *improved*. Have a good time at the Chinese restaurant. Aw,,,good for Souky,,,she got some alone time with Mama away from the little terror,,,,LOL
Susan,
Gosh, I hope you start feeling better soon,,,,(((gentle hugs for you)))
Janis,
I'm still sad for you about Zoe,,,Poor little thing. Having a tear here also.
Well, eating dinner now,,,will check back later.
Kelly
((((Janis)))) I'm SO sorry about Zoe. How tragic to lose a pet that way.
I'll be thinking of you.
I Am happy to hear about the shoulder. But do they have any idea what causes the nerve to get pinched?
I hope you are able to get some relief from the sinus infection. they can be brutal.
We have the grand-twins over for a sleep over with grandma and grandpa. Have just gotten them down for the night. They arrived earlier than we expected; so I had to cut short my stay at the FC, but I have the rest of the tax receipts all ready to print. Got the remaining data entered and proofed. There aren't many - about 25 in French and fewer than that in English. Probably a good idea I went in. Successor was there and had been since fairly early this morning by the snow on his car. But he'd not touched the data entry. He DID while I was there. I told him that I didn't appreciate busting my butt on Wednesday evening to get the files ready for him when he never touched them.
I suspect if I hadn't showed up he would never have touched the program. I also told him that the files are HIS this week. I'll help and answer questions if need be, but HE needs to do them while I'm still around to bail him out if he gets into trouble.
Got an e-mail from a friend in Fairport, near Rochester. When my DM went into a nursing home and sold her house in 1993, this neighbour/friend told us we were to stay at her place when we visited. I have a key to her house and have even stayed there a couple of times when she was away, or on one occasion, in hospital after an operation. Even though my mother has been gone since late in 1997, we still stay with her when we visit the area and I still have the key to her house. She's going to be around. So, keep your fingers crossed for good weather. I will cancel my students that week. I have an orchestra rehearsal on Sunday evening and have to be back for handbells at 6 on Thursday. So I've got SOME flexibility if the weather isn't good. but it can get really nasty as the I81 is immediately east of Lake Ontario and can get white-out conditions just north of Syracuse.
I've been wanting to get down there for a visit. Have other friends and relatives in the area as well. And it will be good for my successor at the FC to not have me around for a few days.
I'm pooped. Think I'll go watch some TV and sew together some squares of an afghan I've been working on since last summer.
Hope you all have a good evening.
Ann
Hi all
Have been busy today, so this is the first chance I've had to check in.
Susan, so sorry to hear that you're having such a terrible time. Wish I were close and could help out. Hope you can figure out which meds are causing you grief. You'll certainly be in my thoughts and prayers.
Janis, so so sorry to hear about Zoe. That's such a terrible thing to happen. Please know I'm saying special prayers for you, too.
Ann, every time I come over to coffee ... you're doing *something* else! LOL LOL Now you're making an afgan! Honestly, I just can't keep up with you. If your successor doesn't start picking up the slack soon ... we'll pass that 2X4 right on over. :)
MG, how are you feeling after the blasting? I know that was no fun. Hmmm, wasn't it you complaining about your hair? I sure needed Kelly this morning. Thank goodness I was able to get an appointment last minute.
Meezers, sounds like all the kitties are getting along just fine, now. Everyone's finding their own little nitch, huh?
Sarv, did you bake anymore of those scones? I could sure use one for a midnight snack. ;)
Defoe, sounds like you had fun with your DGD today. I hope you find your MIL doing well tomorrow. Oh yeah ... get the DH to spring for something other than White Castle for dinner tomorrow! LOL
Well, we had a gorgeous day today. The hi was 78. I had that hair appointment, then there were groceries and I'm still doing some typing, also. Oh ... *guess what*! I have little tiny baby basil and oregano plants. I was so excited when I took off the little covers to mist them and felt the little tiny sprouts peaking up. LOL
Well, think I'm going to go get comfy. Will check back before I go to bed.
... Elaine
Elain,
Great!!! I bet you were excited,,,,I always get excited Everythime something is sprouting,,,LOL It's the little things.
Kelly
Well, I am sitting here catching up. DGD decided that she was going to spend the night with my DM, her GGM. Tickled mom to death. So I have had a few hours that are strictly mine!!
Woofens, I am so sorry to hear about Zoe. It is bad enough to lose a pet, but then to have the guilt about it might have been prevented. And sorry too about the sinus infection. They can be so painful. I found that wet hot towels work to ease the pain.
101 you can be sure that "White Castles" are NOT on the menu for me for tomorrow. If he wants them, we will go thru the drive thru and he can eat all he wants, me, I won't want them for another few months. And oh how exciting that you have "baby plants". I always feel like a protective mother with new sprouts.
Kittymom, so sorry that you are still not feeling well. It could very well be the meds, so if you aren't better by the first of the week, call the Dr.
Meezer, I love the snow pictures, but if I have my choice, pictures would be all the contact I had with snow. Talking about cat hair. My part persian is beginning to shed. I think because of the warm weather we have been having, it has screwed up nature, and it thinks she doesn't need all that hair. It is 3 " long, she is gray, and my carpet is beige. So had to do a thorough vaccuming yesterday, and I am still seeing cat hair all over the carpet. Wish she wasn't such a fraidy cat and I could use the dust buster on her!! LOL. I do brush her every day and have gotten enough hair I could build another cat, if I had some bone, muscle and tissue!! LOL.So glad your fur kids seem to be getting along. Miss Boots treasures the time she gets to be with me when Mr. B is outside. She doesn't dare get in my lap with him in the house. He doesn't do anything to her, but makes sure she understands that I am his "mama'. They can both fit on my lap, but she skeddadles whenevery he comes around.
Mg, I think GG wants you to not maim yourself. Please go to the haircut store, and buy you one. I hope Nathan gets the proper diagnosis and is treated accordingly. It must be frustrating for him as well. I hope you and Jenna have a good trip. I had never heard that name, but DGD's friend here is named Jenna.
VA, grandtwins, and overnight. Aren't you the courageous one? Enjoy them now, in awhile they won't want to come visit, they will have their own agenda. Good for you, I hope you told your successor that he had better learn how to do everything, as you were not planning on making a second career of bailing him out. The 2x4 stands ready and waiting, if you need it. Your "little trip" sounds like not only a way to be inaccessible, but a good mini vacation for you. Enjoy it.
GG. glad you got some "me" time this afternoon. Those races sure sound like a bore to me. I cannot for the life of me, figure out what is so riviting about any kind of racing where they drive round and round in circles, or ovals as the case may be. Other than waiting to see who is gonna crash. Men, go figure!!
Wonder if Sarv got to go to her to do, or whatever? Haven't heard from her. I've been missing Bal, Ernie, Babs, and others who used to drop in from time to time. You think we were their "new year's resolutions?" Giving up bad habits etc. LOL. Wish Darius and Molly would post from time to time, but have been keeping up with what they are doing through Changes.
Well, I am off to visit other forums, then I will be back to bid you adieu.
dcat,
I went to 1 or 2 races and thought,,,,why am I standing here watching sleds go around an oval or drags,,whichever was the case for that particular race,,,,,thinking ,,,this is SO boring!!!!!! Haven't gone since. I know Bill Loves snowmobiles but I think he goes mostly for the male bonding thing,,,LOL
Kel
Hi All,
I was out of town working for the week but back by dinner yesterday. We've been busy as usual working on the pump house. The roof is finally on and we are now storing things in there. It still needs siding but it's dry and warm in there now. Looks great with the door and window in and the new roof. Can't wait to put a matching roof on the house.
Darius got a little too much sun again today and she turned in early. My DB and DSIL came up from Orlando and they brought lots of good food. My DSIL is an excellent cook and always has great meals.
Tomorrow we are off to get more supplies for the building and to pick up some things from a "freecycle" guy.
The day was very warm and I was glad working on the roof that it wasn't summer. That would be a bear.
We'll be having more company in the next month or so, so we need to get some more of the wood debris raked from the immediate yard area and try to get some more gardening done. I still have way too many plants in pots from the move.
It's late so I better get some rest. Another big day tomorrow.
Molly
:^)))
101 Where were you when I bought new carpet 2 years ago? If I could get her to drop her hair evenly over the family room and hall way, it probably wouldn't be a bad pattern!! She just hasn't gotten the hang of that yet.
GG, I hear you, DH and DS have a fixation on car races. Sit and watch the same cars go round and round on the telly. That is just about as exciting as watching paint dry. Feel the same way about tennis and golf, so who really cares. Evidently enough people to put it on the tv. So many idiot programs on tv, I try to gauge the intelligence of those who are responsible. Probably down there with amoebas and snails. Give me a good gardening show, cooking show or Desparate Housewives. DH says that Desparate Housewives is so silly, but caught him watching this past Sunday night. then he started to ask questions about who this was, why did she do that etc. Think he is getting addicted.
101, I am making your Beef Burgundy this week, when my sister comes. Hope it turns out well. Went into the liquor store today, DGD and her friend were with me, they had to stay in the car, told them it was for cooking not drinking. Wonder what kind of report I will get from friends mother? Maybe I should call and let her know that I went into a liquor store. Don't want any rumors getting started!! defoecat is an alcoholic!!, and believe me, her mother is the town's gossip, so I guess I better squelch that before it gets started!! So when you hear that rumor, just tell them it is all because of 101!! Don't blame me.
Well off to bed, I have to get up an hour earlier, to take DM to church. Her church starts at 9:45, so will be home early and on to the hospital to see DMIL. I will check in when we get back.
Hope all have a restful night, and awake refreshed and ready to "worship" in the morning.
Night All.
Hi A;;,
Tomorrows daily is up in the Parking Lot.
Here's the link if anyone needs it.

Nity Nite,
Kelly
Well, I *know* they say never cook with what you wouldn't drink ... but I buy mine from WM. Honest! Keepts me out of the Liqur stores. :) Sure hope you enjoy it. My DH gobbles it down. I have a confession, though. We usually eat it on brown rice, but he bought 15 lbs of baking potatoes from Sams. So I creamed some very stiff and made them into little bowl shapes and served it in them. It was very good, but *hate* to think about the carbs! LOL LOL I don't know how in the world I'm suppose to use 15 lbs of baking potatoes for 2 people. I try to stay away from them. ;)
Hey, come on, potatoes are good for you. It's the stuff you put on them that's the problem. They have lots of good vitamins, and potassium, and plenty of fiber, or as my folks used to call it, roughage! They kind of like to sprout eyes at this time of year though, so if you plan to keep them over the long haul, just bake a bunch, and make twice baked potatos out of them and freeze them.
We had an uneventul night with no hissing...could it be that peace is at hand? Poor Mini has hissed so much that she can't even meow, all that comes out is a little squeak. Here's Sammi playing Tarzan on a fake fern........
Better get moving...and check on tomorrow's thread, this one's due to expire!
This picture is just too cute lol, so typical of a baby kitty
Maria, GG posted the new page for sunday up aways, around 11 pm.
Pssst Sheila......
