Sinnigias !!!!

Snowrose -
I think it may be fairly easy to hybridize any of the gessies. Someone else will have to tell you for sure. I have been hybriding African violets since 2000 and have some more in the works right now. I have several seedpods on a couple of streps right now.
To hybridize the sinningia, you need to peel back the flower so you can see what you are doing. I don't know if I am having luck or not. The first cross I did gave a very tiny seedpod. I don't know if this is normal or if it should have been larger. I sowed the seed (that I couldn't see) two weeks ago and I still don't see anything popping up. This is only my second cross and it is to soon to tell if it took.

that sounds about right for the sinningia seed pods. They tend to look like dried up calyxes - not big things like strep pods.

Nancy....you answered my question. I can see the need to peel back/split open the blossom in order to see what's what unlike violet blossoms which are straightforward. Thanks. Good luck on your sinningia crosses.

I found a pic of a sinn seed pod. I've had others look just like dried up calyxes - no plumpness at all (and the seeds were viable) - so I guess it depends.

Dave can tell you how to hybridize sinns. He taught me. I still have the picture he showed of whats what & it's really quite easy once you see what to do.thought i would post a picture of my gabriel's horn, what a beauty.really love this one.

Really like Gabriel's Horn....so neat with the extra petals.

Here is a pic of my newest favorite 'Country Shortkake' with semi-double blossoms.

Snowrose that one is a gorgeous color. I see I need to order some Sinningias.
