Coffee and...For, Wednesday, January 18, 2006
Well gee, I'm going to go ahead and post. After all it *is* after 12:00. LOL That makes it official. ;) Besides I didn't get to post much today ... or was that yesterday? Hmmm, now I'm confused. I've got a bit of typing to do for the SO, again, so I'll check when I can.
Hope everyone has a great day.
Hugs&blessings ... Elaine
Well, I am about ready to close up shop. DH and DS are in bed, (not together) me and Mr B. are hanging out here at the computer. Had a good evening, catching up on events with twin sister. We laugh, and joke and share what's been going on. Even though we talk once a week, we seem to miss telling each other the events that maybe have happened or not as important. Love having her here. We will work at DM's tomorrow, and then she will leave about 4:30 or so for the 2 hour drive home. She feels so guilty that she is not able to be here to help more, but with the distance, she does a great deal.
DH is feeling better, he was able to get in bed on his own, his brother brought him some pain pills today, and without them, I don't think that he would be doing as well. He has an appointment with the Chiropractor tomorrow, and again on Friday. He sort of "ribbed" me for going to the chiropractor, but admitted that he helped him.
Well the weather here has changed. We had rain about all day, temperatures dropped, and it has turned to snow. They say we will get about 3" before morning. Mr. B. just loves it. He goes out, and puts his nose to the ground and plows a trench. Then just jumps and runs.
101 we have missed each other all day. Your weather sounds miserable. Hope that tomorrow brings better to you.
Maria, I am the proverbial mother hen. When I don't hear from you, I get worried that Samson, in his energetic puppy behavior has hurt you. So please, just check in and tell me that you are okay.
DM and DMIL are both on the mend. DM has a cold but is feeling much better. DMIL is in therapy and seems to be doing well. We hope that she is able to be home in 2 weeks or so. I know that she will need some assistance, but so glad that all of this is behind her.
Have laid out ingredients to make blueberry muffins tomorrow morning. They will be on the counter, with real butter if you like. Help yourselves, and I hope you enjoy. Please say a prayer that I will have enough energy to get through the cleaning tomorrow.
Good Night all, sleep well.
Defoecat, I'll save some room for blueberry muffins, Thanks. : )
Real butter is all I use (for the last 10 years), along with extra virgin olive oil. That has helped bring my cholesterol levels down considerably, from 400 to just over 200. I have to say that cutting out junk foods helped too, esp. packaged cookies, etc. that have a lot of saturated fats and/or partially hydrogenated oils.
I've had 2-3 short naps on the couch tonight, missing the end(s) of 3 TV shows... so it's now time to sleep in the bed, LOL.
G'night, Gracie!
Another check-in - Good Morning
Well maybe not. The freezin rain some of you had yesterday has reached us here in Ottawa. Some schools in the region closed and buses to most of the others cancelled which means they might as well be closed (but they keep provincial funding if they stay "open").
Been busy working on year-end FC stats to get them in shape before the board meeting which is tonight. So while I've been reading or at least skimming the posts, I've not had the time to put together a good response.
Have to get breakfast and get to work shortly; so I will try to catch up later.
Hope you all have a good day.
Ann
Good morning everyone. This morning it is raining and grey and I have a leak in the roof that was just replaced where the addition was attached to the house. I am supposed to go to my other place 80 miles away in this gorgeous weather and they have wind on the other side of the bay . I have not been there as much as I like . I am working on my main house that has been neglected for along time. But I miss that house it is close to the water and all my friends live there. My neighboorhood has changed in College park, and we dont really know the people and we just enjoy the peace of our back yard.
They are younger than we are ,we dont have much in commun. In Cambridge most of our friends are our age and we have house there because we plan to live there after our retirement whenever that is. For right now we are spending our week ends there. I am there a little more than my husband because there is yard work to do and other projects. Some when he joins me all we do is just relax .
I am supposed to meet some people there businesswise and I am not too anxious to drive this morning in this weather.
For now I am going to have some bread and ginger preserve and agood cup of tea then I will decide. Have all a nice day.....
Well, there are blueberry muffins on the counter, help yourselves. DS and I are off to mother's to do some cleaning. Will be gone the better part of the day, so I will check in and catch up later.
We have about 3 inches of snow, and it is still snowing.
Have a good day everyone.
With being out of town over the weekend, and the problems with DG, I have missed five whole threads. There's just no way I can catch up.
How is Susan? Do her surgery go well?
And where is Julie? I haven't seen her post anything.
Abnormally high temps over the weekend, now cold. We are also supposed to rain/snow showers tomorrow. I hope its clear until we get to Chicago.
Take care,
Jody
Good Morning!! Would you believe I got up, watched a bit of TV, then went back to snooze on the couch - I NEVER do that!! But I decided I was going off my allergy meds -just wasn't happy with how I felt. (I may go back on them if I get the throat junk back in vengence) One of the side effects was jitteriness and insomnia and believe me, I've had both.
Woke up to a yardfull of snow and it is still drifting down. Supposed to get a dumping on Saturday - just when DIL is having a big creative memory party!! Oh well, we are close enough that I will be able to make it - plus I am bringing some of the food!!
I am getting the 'seed bug'- I can't wait to start some flowers...and it is way too soon!!
It is 9:30 and I am still in my pj's with beds unmade and dishes in the sink...shame on me!! I need to get my butt in gear and get something done...Take care everyone!
Good AM Everyone......not too bad here today. It's 65 and a little cloudy...I can handle that...
Sarv, you mention yesterday(?) that you had gotten some Claritan......it's really great stuff. No jitters, sleep well, and everything drys up. I have taken it for years and I swear by it. It's a little pricey, but you only take one a day, so I guess it evens out. I took it when it was prescription.
Darius, you sleep like my DH. When I ask him to come to bed at 10pm he says he won't be able to sleep. Then he staggers to bed about 1. I know darn well he has been sleeping. Then he has the nerve to complain about neck pain. LOL Then I really give it to him....He is like a pretzel on the couch.
Speaking of shaking....that's what I'm sorta doing now. By old boss called me a couple of weeks ago and wants me to come back to work....Not to run the kitchen, but to teach Culinary Arts to the clients....(I worked at ARC Broward, and they service the mentally, physically and emotionally challenged,..handicapped.) I told him I really am not interested, but if they need me in a pinch I would be glad to help out. Well, they called again and this am I go in to talk to them about "helping out"... I'm 65 and I have worked all my life and now I want to garden.....but on the other hand, I don't want them to be out in a lurch with this program which is a continuation of the program I started 2 years ago. What's a girl to do? I want it to be "all about ME" for now, but I still feel guilty. HELP...
Will let you know how it goes....
Hap
Good morning every one
Had to wait a long time to get in here, I am still in my night gown, Sarv, but did dishes last night now Iam going to think about making that apple pie and the rest for DD and SIL.
Yes where is Julie? And how is Susan, thinking about her too!
I'll have one of your muffins, Defoe, yum with real butter, won't eat only that and Olive oil for cooking just like Darius does, I never had a high colesterol, genes, I think!
Orchid, know what you mean about a second house, we had one in New Hampshire mostly for skiing. It all started when we stayed with DH brother for that purpose but DH forgot his toothbrush twice, he said this is it and called to see what was for sale and bought this beautiful farm stretching out into a lake , but it meant taking care of two homes, but we loved it. Sold it after the children became adults.
Sorry you have problems with GS, what a shame, Jasmeer, grandchildren should be enjoyed
It is almost 60' here today, Ann, such crazy weather for this time of year, to think it was 7' day before yesterday! Samson is a mess with mud all over him, he is not allowed in the house at this point.
Morning, Hap, posted at the same time. I think you are very lucky some one needs you, perhaps you could just work a few hours a day or a couple of days a week? Is that possible?
Good morning GOBs, I'm not doing a very good job at keeping up what with running to the vet, trying to rein in the holy terror Sammi, etc. But I try to read and keep up as best I can.
Souky is eating, not a lot, and being somewhat picky, but certainly looking better. Had to give her sntibiotics with a dropper this morning, so I am not on her favorite person list at the moment. She was very put out last night when she jumped up on the bed and found Sammi bouncing around like a maniac. She didn't stick around to see him keel over in a dead sleep a few minutes later.
Have a doctor's appt today to have my shoulder checked out. Will take advantage of the road time to have lunch with DIL at the pie place. (Any excuse!!)
Jassmerr, going to Chicago? If you whiz by on WI i43, give me a wave, we are right off the Waukesha BigBend exit....If we go down we try to bypass the 94 route and go through Lake Geneva instead, because rush hour is 24/7 around Chicago. I must have missed the reason for your trip. My computer is still at the shop so I'm using DH's which is awkward and I hate it.
Have we heard how the surgery turned out for Susan, yet? I suppose it's kind of early to expect a report, but I know we are all thinking of her.
Can't respond to everyone individually, I have to get my rear in gear, too many chores put off since the weekend and even my lax attitude towards housework won't help, it's a mess. Sammi doesn't help, there are toys everywhere.
Later...
Sheila
Maria - I had to go back and read my post! LOL By "DG" I meant Dave's Garden. No grandchildren here. I wasn't very clear; sorry for the confusion. Thanks for the thoughts, tho!
Sheila - I'll be sure to wave. I guess I didn't say why we are going to Chicago. DH is giving a seminar at the Mid-Am: http://www.midam.org/home.html
LOL, Jasmerr, blame my age, of course it means Dave's garden,, forgot the S, all I could think of was DGS, guess I had mine on my mind, sorry
Quick Good Morning All,
This is what Susan has posted in the Pet Forum so far
well i'm on here. can't do caps unless i do all caps so it will be no caps.
slow typing...lol
you are all so sweet, i am blushing from all the nice things said.
elaine called me this pm, it was good to hear her voice too.
noone sounded like i thought they would. i have seen pictures and imagined the voice bu didn't get close. lol
debbie is definitely from new york, rofl, no 'drawl' there. kelly sounds like the indiana people where dd lives. she is from okla but now has that midwestern accent going on. and she married a guy from london so she now has a mw-okie-british ... velly interesting
i am about to take my first pain pill, i can feel the arm coming to.
oh yeah, most of my kitty kids are scared of me. not making me happy, furrbee wouldn't come eat his supper, had to run and hide, cali hid under the car asia ran, indy fussed at me, mercky came and got in my lap, sweet mercky, muffin is watching me very closely, and bit won't leave my shoulder alone. she wants to touch my ice machine and get up on it, which i won't like when it comes to.
i have this pack thing that goes on top of all the other stuff and it hooks up to a machine and it runs ice water through it. supposed to have it on 30 minutes and off 30 minutes. hope i can time my hot flashes to the cold cycles. lol
there is a corsett thingy that i think they put on too tight, i can barely breathe. can't get the bandage wet for a week, whew...what will i smell like in a week lol lol
better go get that pill, didnt mean to type for an hour. i really miss you guys, and you are so good to care about me.
love,
susan
cant do my signature kitty boo hoo
using the mouse with my left hand too. funnnnnn
Jan. 15
This is the DD doing dictation...
There is a lot more pain than I thought there would be, so I haven't been on the computer at all, I can hardly get out of the chair. I am having *SeVeRe* computer withdrawl. The medicine doesn't seem to be working very well. The ice thing makes it hurt more than if I don't use it at all, so I'm not using it at all.
Hope that I will be back on soon!
Jan. 16
Ok I am on here for a sec. Having a little bit of feeling like sitting up so had to checkon here., still can't type worh a darn I see. LOL
but can use caps occasionally.
thanks for all the well wishesk this has been rough. hurts so much, and the itching. whew, am taking benadryl now, it kind of works.
if someone would update the hosta thread for me, I would appreciate it.
Susan
=^..^=
going back to my recliner now
Good Morning!
Maria - We have had some weird temerature swings havn't we. Yesterday at 5:30 a.m. it was 16'. Today it was 59'. By the time I leave work tonight, it's supposed to be back in the 30's. My body can't handle these swings. Makes my sinuses go haywire.
Defoe - muffins sound yummi.
Darius - Projects are looking good. Sounds like you are having a great time despite the hard work.
M5 - Glad Souky is doing better. Send in more pics of Sammy!
See ya a little later!
Not Having Fun!
Wrote a medium-sized post last night addressing several people, previewed it, read someone else's post, forgot what I was doing and lost mine. Gave up for the night.
Today we have very high winds and I've already been out in the yard in my nightgown trying to rescue the panels from my greenhouse. There's another one on the grass now and one has gone completely AWOL. DH called to tell me that the wind had ripped my store sign off it's post. He rescued it (at risk of being sailed off with it onto the highway). It was attached with aircraft cable too ---- can't think of anything stronger to use to re-attach it.
D'cat, please don't drive yourself nuts trying to measure ring shanks with a ruler! I'll just send you an assortment of the plastic ring gaurds and you can use whatever fits. Glad to hear your DH is doing better and that DM and DMIL are both on the mend.
Mg --- hope everything goes (went?) well today and you get some relief.
M5 so glad to hear that Souky seems better. You certainly have had more than your share of grief with your furkids recently.
Hi Maria. Glad to "see" you again. Why am I not surprised that Samson is exiled at the moment? Before you mentioned his muddy condition I already was thinking of an entire house filled with the wonderful smell of wet dog.
Hi Darius. I'm in awe of your building skills. I'm afraid that if I tried to build something like that it would fall on my head in no time flat.
Greetings and best wishes to everyone else that I haven't mentioned. I have read all your posts --- just don't retain anywhere near what I'd like to.
I keep hearing ominous bumps and thuds outside. I'm afraid to look. Think I'd best stay out of my workroom upstairs today. There's a large, rather sick tree that just might pick today to keel over (into the house of course)! The electricity and cable connection keep cutting out for a couple of seconds so I'd best post this while I can.
Here's the thread if anyone is interested http://davesgarden.com/place/t/568144/
Have a good day,,,back to the Salon,
Kelly
I'm also curious where Julie is. I must have missed the posts regarding her absence.
There is some renewed interest in a book (and possibly movie) swap in the Book, T.V. and Movie forum. It is a great place to get a book you have interest in and to unload extras books you have at home, especially novels, that you may never read again.
It's simple because you don't have to send postage. You just post the book you have, and whoever wants it just sends you a book you pick from their list. So everyone is even on the postage. Then when you finish it, you just post it again in the Book, T.V. and Movie Forum and it's off to someone else.
Take a look and give it a try. It might be a good place to get rid of some of your VCR tapes, too, if you have a DVD player now.
Well, I'm back and they snuckered me......I'll be teaching part of the Culinary Arts Program at ARC starting at 2pm today. It's going to be my call how many days a week that I work, etc. It's volunteer, but that's fine for I am very committed to the program and it's success. I just can't believe I said, "yes"!!! Where's that 2 x 4?????
DG seems much better right now....hope it will continue.. I was getting a little tired of it acting up. Not that it's imperative that I have instant posts because I am so busy....if you get my drift......
It's sounds as if Susan if having a rough time. Gotta stay away from those docs.....They're trouble....I know, I raised one....LOL
I'm off to find my chef uniform and make sure I look OK. I'm glad I didn't throw my toques away.
See ya.
Hap
Hi all
Am taking a break from my typing this morning to try and catch up and grab a bite to eat. Now I know how you feel when you have to eat at the puter, Kelly. :)
I forgot to mention in my late night post last night that I had talked to Susan yesterday. She sounds sort of tired to me, but then I haven't talked to her but twice and both times have been after her surgery. She admited that she's been in a good deal of pain, and you know how that can wear a body down. Her DH was right there with her, though. Am so glad she has him around.
Well, it's 51 here today so far. Yesterday it was 70, so it's no wonder we stay sick all the time. I put my little baby thyme plant outside to get a drink of that rain cause nothing does a plant so much good as a good watering from God. The only thing is ... I forgot to bring it in. *sigh* Maybe it didn't get *that* cold. Haven't heard what our low was last night but am thinking I don't have anything to worry about.
I have a canna peaking up out of a pot thinking it's spring with all this crazy weather. I was so excited to see that it was living but gave it a good scolding and put some leaves on top of the silly thing. I'm hoping this was the right thing to do.
Defoe, the blueberry muffins are so good. They are my favorite. I put on fresh coffee as that's what I like and missed it this a.m.
Maria, got a laugh at the picture of Samson out there all muddy and pleased with himself. Yesterday my girl came in from the rain and looked up at me as if to say ... "Well, don't just stand there, go get me a towel." She's so funny. Hates to be wet. :)
M5, am so releaved to hear souky is doing better today.
MG am thinking about you and hope all is going well for you.
Darius, every night I go in the den and tell the DH to let's go to bed. He'll say he's not sleepy yet. I'll tell him I just woke him up. He always says the same thing. "I wasn't asleep." We go through this every night. He refuses to come to bed before 1:00. I've learned to just let him sleep in what ever room or position suits him. Eventually he'll check the clock, and when it reads 1:00, he'll come to bed.
Hap, isn't it marvelous to feel wanted and needed? Whether you decide to take the job or not ... you'll always know that you were so well thought of they wanted you back. What a legacy!
Well, my post is getting way tooo long and I still haven't addressed everything I meant to, but am going to post for now. Hope everyone is having a good day.
Hugs to all ... Elaine
What a place full of good cooks. My wife will be gone next week and I need some cooking advice. How do you boil water ??????
Now that's a start, Oz.......In fact, there will be some that I will be teaching that will never able to do that.....
Hap
LOL, Oz, did not know how to boil water either, I remember my DMI bringing dinner so her son would not starve . Though I learned quickly, and am a pretty good cook now.
You must know how to make a sandwich? You take two slices of bread, put some cheese in it , a piece of any kind of cold cut, some mustard, or mayo, lettuce, tomato and a pickle lol lol lol
Having a monsoon right now , Temp is 60" wow
Oz, I am really getting fresh in my old age, yes?
Taking another break. It's hard typing word for word ... bad English and different dialect. I enjoy it, but it has to be word for word and sometimes I find myself correcting things in my mind without meaning to.
Hap, I'm guessing by your post that you took the position? Wohoo! I'm *happy* for you if that's what you wanted. Please please tell us more. will you be full time or part time? Will you have time for coffee and gardening?
Oz, I couldn't cook when I got married, either. I could scramble eggs, cook a frozen pizza/chicken pot pie and boil a hot dog. Didn't have microwaves back then. I didn't even have a MIL worried enough about her son to come cook. LOL I figured it out soon enough, though. If you get too hungry, come on in and help yourself to what ever is on the counter. I've put out Chicken Parmesan if you don't mind left overs. :)
Well, back to work. ;)
... Elaine
oz - carry out or a restaurant will be fine!!
Haven't done much of anything today except the usual house pick up type of things. I had a bbq recipe from my mom and I have looked all over for it- couldn't find it, so I tried a new recipe - it is kinda bland. Wonder what I could throw in it to zap it up some.
I quit taking all my meds today and feel remarkably good. I wonder if my calcium, glucosomine, or fish oil pills could be causing this allergy stuff? Guess I'll start back on them one at a time and see what happens.
Hap - returning to work??? Why would you do that?? Do you love doing it? I can't imagine going back to work - I so love staying at home and puttering around with stuff I love. Maybe if I was offered millions, I'd go back....but then again, maybe not!!
McC - hope the tree limb stays outside~~
hi guys. here is really quick update. it is terrible, i either feel like i am drugged up snd weird or hurting. trying not to taske too many pills, was only given a limited supply. taking the bandage off on friday, can take a shower then. dh washed my hair yesterday, it felt so good was so filthy it wouldn't suds up the first time lol
gotta go back to my recliner.
dh has gone to town to do the weekly shopping. he is a sweetheart...
susan
=^..^=
i did it with a big finger stretch
Susan,
Aw, I feel so bad for you,,,,sure wish there was something I could do. I hope the pain starts lessening each day.
Kelly
I was really pulling everyones leg I know how to boil water have done it before. It is simple.
Put water in pan
Turn on the stove and get it good and hot.
Put water and pan on stove
It will boil and boil foam and everything
Soon it stops because the water is about all gone
Then i put the left over water in a small glass and fill the pot again to boil more.
Takes a awful long time to get a glass full of cooked water I tell you
oz,
Where do you come up with such funny stuff,,,,
Poor, Poor Mrs. Ozarkian,,,,,Please tell her we feel very sorry for her,,,and we don't know How she has put up with you for all of these years,,,the woman Must be a saint. lol
Kelly
She is trying very hard to be a saint spends about 30 hrs a week on the church computer in the other room setting up the visual aids for sunday service. Also about every 3-4 months she sings a hymn for the entire congregation in sign language. No she is not deaf. Just stuck with me. She does not put up with me. She has several pet names she calls me. None would pass DG.
Well I better go get started on that water.
Ooooh, Oz, do be careful and don't burn the house down while the DW is gone! :)
Susan, it's so so good to see you posting. Am saying healing prayers. Have cleaned your house. Doesn't it look better? What, you can't tell it? Oh dear ... guess you better let that DH do it, then :)
... Elaine
Oz, keep omn being humorous it is a lot of fun, too many sad tings in this world.
Susan, so nice for you to post even though you hurt a lot, your are just great!!!!!!!!!!!!111
101 I hope i do not have a fire would have to use all my precious cooked water to put it out.
Hi all.
I lost track of who did what when, I have hardly had time to read my regular email, never mind the DG stuff, and the link has been really weird lately.
The French drain is done, and so is my back, neck and shoulder!!! We had some really strong cold winds at one point we had a 60 mph gust that blew me off my feet and into the trench we were digging. I was NOT a pretty site when I hauled myself out - that wet sticky mud had definitely stuck. LOL
Now I just have to get the muscles back to normal and let the bruises heal. All we have to do now is replant all the plants we had to lift to do the drain.
I need to go soak my aches and pains! Back later
Carol
The Odd One
I figured I'd better check in and let everyone know I was still alive. Yep! I'm here!
The past couple of weeks has been pretty tiring but a lot of fun at the same time. I've been working on cleaning out my end of the basement. There were boxes piled to the limit with things that had never been unpacked for a period of at least 10 years...and some of it even longer.
But now my sewing room/crafts room/seed starting & plant carry over room is looking pretty darned good. At least I can walk from one end to the other facing FORWARD instead of side stepping through the maze I'd created for myself.
It's *wonderful!*
And now that I have my 'other' computer hooked up and networked with the main machine upstairs, I can take a short break once in a while to check in on DG.
I haven't read any of the posts for quite a while, so I have no idea what's going on. I just hope everyone is healthy and happy...and if you aren't, well, I sure hope you *are* real soon.
HI to *EVERYONE*
~julie~
Checking in again ---- twice in one day, wow!
Winds have died down, thank heavens. Sarv, thanks for thinking of me. The tree stayed put, but my Harbor Freight greenhouse is a pitiful sight indeed. Not only did I have to retrieve roof and side panels from all over the yard, the wind actually wrenched two of the uprights out of the base and bent the top crossbar in the back. I'm hoping that DH and I can get it straightened out and put back together this weekend. I'm thinking of trying to tape all the panels to the struts on the inside with clear packing tape to try to keep this from happening again. At least this time all that was in there was a tiered shelf unit --- no plant starts to lose yet. Anybody have any good advice?
Susan, I salute you for even trying to post in your condition. Please keep an eye on that shoulder. I don't blame you for not using the cold pack apparatus if it felt worse using it, but that is often used to keep swelling down as well as to numb the area somewhat. Letting it swell too much wouldn't help you either. I know that there's a concern about getting dependent on pain meds, but if they haven't given you enough to take you through this worst period, something's wrong!
Hey oz, do you get Food Network on TV? They have just the show for you. It's called "How to Boil Water".
Hi, julie! Your description of the cellar not only made me laugh, it made me envious as well. You might well have been describing most of my house --- am very familiar with the sideways passages through a room. Actually our storage problem is partly due to the fact that the cellar is unuseable for most storage. It has a stone foundation and we're sitting on ledge. It's very wet down there at the moment, as it is after any hard rain.
I'm trying something new that I saw on the Food Network. There are two pans of mixed veggies oven roasting at the moment. We actually had a small butternut squash that was left from the previous year's harvest and it was still good. I'm definitely keeping the seeds from that one.
Hi and bye to everyone else, I've got to go tend to the rest of supper.
good to see you julie and know you are safe and well. I think there were a couple of folks who had surgery, my spousal unit finished the greenhouse he was building me for Christmas and darius is getting a lot done at Molly's building the pump house/tool shed/potting shed/storage shed.
