posting pictures

Livermore, CA(Zone 9a)

Am I the only one that can't post pictures. I have had problems for a long time, but now can't get them to post at all.

Edgartown, MA(Zone 7a)

jerodsmom,
I am new to this site and have been searching half the afternoon for instructions on how to post. I have posted photo's on both GW and ebay so I am not a total novice but it isn't working for me either. Any guidance to instructions would be greatly appreciated. Katy

runktrun....Welcome to Dave's. Were you wrote the text you posted, there is a smaller window under it that says image. On the right side of that window there is a button. If you "hit" it. voila a new window opens to let you search your own computed, then the rest is easy.
We have a TEST forum also. you find it under the tab Garden Talk in the Dave's Garden Community:--------there you can testpost your pictures as much as you like.
Janett

Edit to say you must at least write ONE word in the text-window, otherwise the picture wont be posted

tayson80,
Thanks for the help I appreciate it very much. My DH gave me a trip to Holland with my sister in April as a gift for my 50th birthday. Although I have visited Austria and Germany I am very unfamiliar with your region. Is there any garden in Holland that you would recommend I not miss visiting? Thanks again Katy

Jerodsmom, I haven't heard of anyone else having problems posting photos. With the site interruptions we've had, it wouldn't surprise me to discover others have had similar problems to yours, but we haven't received any reports if they have.

Terry, would my using a Imac make any difference?

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

It shouldn't make any difference. All other things being equal, the major factors are the speed of your connection and the size of the photos. (Faster connections can handle larger photos; slower connections are more likely to time-out.)

Livermore, CA(Zone 9a)

I was able to post some photo's this morning, but I had to click the preview button at least 40 times before it posted.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

What size are your photos? (In pixels, photos should be no larger than 800 x 600, and for a lot of folks, 640 x 480 is better.)

Also, .jpgs are sometimes faster than .gifs Just a couple of ideas to consider.

Do you have a dialup connection? That's what I have and it never takes more than 3-4 minutes at most to preview pictures that I post, so if it's taking you 15 minutes it's probably because of the size of the picture. If you have photo editing software maybe you can use it to make the picture smaller before you try to post it. When I opened your picture, it looked like it was about twice as big as most of the pictures I've seen around here, so if you can reduce the size like Terry suggests above I think that will speed things up for you.

bulbhound..II agree with ecrane....your pic above is 800 X 600...not a bad size...

can you resize it to 640 X 480 and try it again? Am just curious in the download time difference. (I assume you are on dial up?)

Other than that, check what speed you are connecting to the internet at....anything less than 31 kbs will be somewhat slow for downloading/uploading etc. (It may be your phone line could use some cleaning up by the phone company.)

Shoe.

Well, I am both a computer and a camera ditz. How do you tell how large your picture is?

Brockton, MA(Zone 6a)

Open the pic onto the screen and Right Click on it, Left Click on 'properties' and the info will show up.

I got this monster pic thru

I can change my photo's properties in the scanner(for prints) or Adobe Photoshop programs.

I just opened a picture and it was sized 2560x1920 maybe that is my problem.

Brockton, MA(Zone 6a)

In the same window where you find 'properties' look for a 'resize' option. If it's there open that and use the 'large'. try posting the resized pic.
There may be a 'resize' option in your Photo software, too.

Thanks for all your help.

I resized and I still get an error message.

If you tried to post the pic this afternoon, try again later.
