Good Morning All,
Here's the daily con't from

Have a Great Day,
Kelly

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Isn't quite morning yet here, but I'll pop in anyway. Just posted a final message in the other thread before going to bed. See you all in the real morning.

Ann

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

Good Morning - rise and shine you sleepy heads!! I slept until 7:30am - unheard of for me - but I popped a couple of over the counter allergy pills and they tend to knock me out. I remember waking only one time last night - another miracle!!

Yesterday DIL/DS came over to pick up DGS - they stayed and stayed (most unlike them) Then DIL said "how bout we go over to the other DS and get pizzas) Now this is a major first!! This DIL is the grouchy one that somehow ruins everyone's fun. Well, we all went and had a glorious time - played games= men swilled brew etc. We were together from 2pm until 10pm and nobody got cranky...sure seemed good!!

GG- thems some pretty cold temps!!! We try keep the house at 68 - I prefer 72!! But with the heating prices the way they are, we bundle up too. We're still checking into the corn/pellet stoves for next year.

I too quit using liquid fabric softeners when I noticed all the gunk in the washer. Now I use the Tide that has the 'built in softener' and I love it!! I may have to try the vinegar stuff tho (sounds more environmentally sound) - still keep some fabric sheets, but when I did use them, every once in a while I would get spots on good blouses from them...grrr Speaking of laundry, as I went by the laundryroom door, I notice the basket was overflowing....

IO1- you'll have a grand time starting seeds. I am just fascinated with it all. I've started some browallia and have many lilies sprouting. I finally made a calendar that tells me when to start the seeds I have. The heat mat I received for xmas has been great too - since my seed starting shelves are in a major cold part of the house.

M5- I ended up getting that piece of furniture - on sale- and I love it - fits the space to a tee and really makes a difference in my room. Isn't it funny how one piece can change the whole room for the better. Right now I am looking at my lower level cupboards. They were from the upstairs kitchen when we remodeled that, so they are real old. I've painted and repainted them, but now would just like some new ones. DH refuses to toss them out, so I'm compromising and thinking maybe just new doors. He says NO because we have several drawers and you can't get new drawer faces - me thinks he is wrong!!! Need to to some investigating on that issue!! Darius - what's the real story on that!!

Well it's pink skies in the morning- sailors take warning....hmmm storms coming?? Time for a yogurt!! (had chicken alfredo pizza with tomatoes and artichokes last night....to die for...)

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Sarv, he's wrong. Drawer fronts are just as available as doors. There are many sites, just do a Google search for "replacement cabinet doors". Here's an example of choices:

Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)

Good morning. Can somebody link this thread to yesterday, please? I'd do it but I'm not that adept at this computer stuff. Old dog, new tricks, you know.

Sarv, glad to hear that you and your family had a good time. It's about time that DIL shaped up and acted like an adult instead of a spoiled child, ( I'm thinking that's the same one who wanted a divorce just before Christmas?) 2x4 threapy?

Yesterday my friend from Idaho came over with her husband and got the plexiglass panels to make a greenhouse. I hope they can get it built in time to use it this spring. We dug up some Russian Sage plants that were volunteers and I sent a couple of greenhouse plants home with her too. We visited most of the afternoon and they left here about half an hour before dark to drive 2 hours home.

This morning we are going to go have breakfast in town with our son and daughter in law before church so I need to get myself moving. Have a great day everyone, count your blessings.

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

Mary - yup - that's the same DIL - maybe she has changed, but I think not!! But I'll take any good times we can all have together.

Darius - thanks -I knew I could count on you to show me where to go. DH is slowing down and doesn't like to tackle any new 'major' project. Just likes to putter around...I may have to prod him....

Had a plate of waffles (alas from a box) a container of yogurt and a big glass of water - now it's off to look at what sprouted (or died) overnight!

Hi all
Sounds like everyone had a good day yesterday. I got up moving a bit slow today ... sneezing and a head ache, so we didn't go to church. Am thinking it's probably because I was out in that terrible wind over the past couple of days.

Sarv, am glad you had a good time with the inlaws yesterday. It's nice when everyone can get together without friction. Oh, and that breakfast ... sure sounds *healthy* LOL All I've managed is my coffee today.

Darius, my beef burgundy recipe is similar to the links you posted, only I dredge my meat in flour before browning and thicken with a can of mushroom soup instead of using a roux. Not traditional ... but not bad. :) Have it in the crock pot warming as planned. At least I don't have to cook today. ;)

Got some Italian parsley seeds, basil and oregano seeds planted yesterday. Will do a few tomato seeds today. I can keep the herbs in the house in the window and set them out on pretty sunny days.

Albany, OR(Zone 8a)

Well, hi all.
Was across the mts. at a wrestling tournament. Son did very good. He pinned all his guys (Sarv, I know you will understand that part).
Had snow over there to most of the way home yesterday. Made it ok. But of course, here in the valley, it is rain, rain, rain constantly.

Tho this morning I looked outside and it is calm and no rain. So may get outside to work in the yard for once? Shall see.
Have read all the posts from you guys but can't remember it all.
Do love the pics of the kitties tho, M5. Mary, do love to hear the storys of Amanda Panda too. I miss having a kitty.
Darius, all your cooking sounds so good. Molly will gain weight for sure now, tho with all the work outside will keep her slim and trim, lol.
Molly, you guys are doing so much and I think it is wonderful on how it is all coming together so well.

Mary, here is the link. You can go to Home Talk tab, then under Back Porch is the Parking Lot Forum for future reference.

http://davesgarden.com/place/t/568281/

Well, last week I got from UPS, a huge stalk and clump of tubers from a dahlia tree from DrDon. Can't wait to see how it will do here and wonder if it will bloom.
If you want to see the picture, go to this link.

Hope everyone has a good day today,

Well CRUD!

I've been fighting a UTI since last Monday, and yesterday I was more "uncomfortable" than I had been all week. Started getting some considerable back pain going up the left side. Then I started running a temp and got really nauseous. Took my Doc's advise after I called him and went to the ER. The lab tests came back with alot of blood in the urine, so the DR sent me for a CAT Scan. Lovely kidney stone high in the left kidney. It's in a position where it is unlikely to come down on it's own, so I will probably have Lithotripsy (sp?) {where they break it apart with ultrasound waves} done Tuesday or Wednesday. I don't have the searing pain associated with trying to pass the stone, just a heavy, hot and super tight feeling in and around the kidney. Thank goodness!!!

So much for my plans! I still won't be posting much, and now I'm less sure of making it to chat. So you guys have fun while I enjoy my little Vicodone pills!

I'll be back when I can, lol.

OH Mg I am so sorry but please take good care of yourself and update when you can!!!

Will be thinking and praying that all goes well for you. Take care and post when you can.

Hi everybody! Been buried alive by the laundry monster since yesterday. I think I can see the end now.

(((mg))) Take care and hope you get some releif.

Sarv - your afternoon with family sounds really nice.

Elaine - I think you will enjoy starting seeds. I have tried for the last couple of years, but kill more than I produce. Actually last year I was doing well, by my then 6 mo. old kitten dug alot of them out while I was at work. Little stinker.

DH had been sick last week so this weekend he has been antsy to get out of the house. Yesterday we took a drive to Tractor Supply. They usually have good sales after Christmas on winter clothing, but not yet. Maybe in Feb. I usually get DH and DS some flannels and western style shirts.

Going to visit friends tonight. Havn't seen them since before the holidays. Should be a fun night out. Have to been home by 9:00 though. Anyone watch "Strong Medicine" on Lifetime TV? It's the only show I watch on a regular basis and there are only 4 more episodes left and then it's ending. Waaaahhhh!

We had some snow last night. Yesterday it was in the mid 50's and today it hasn't hit 30. Very cold and windy.

See ya later!

Central, WI(Zone 4a)

Hi All,

Well, Sunday School was way boring this morning,,,,I was even bored,,,can't blame the kids for being bored. Came home and cleaned the kitchen, swept, mopped, called my Mom, had some lunch, friends stopped by, got laundry going and just now checking in.

sarv,
what a nice evening for you and such a surprise all the way around,,,,that's great! I agree with Darius on the drawer and door thing,,,they're available.

Hi darius

I don't use fabric softener very often,,,Never the liquid,,,my laundry room is upstairs and I never remember to listen for the rinse cycle,,,,besides, that would mean one more trip upstairs and that's just more exercise than I want,,,LOL And the sheets,,,I just don't think of it,,,usually don't even have any.

Mary,
I have the link in yesterday's thread,,,there were a couple of posts after I put up the link so I guess it got burried. Sorry about that. oooo, new greenhouse,,,Great,,have fun building it.

Elaine,
Sorry to hear that you aren't feeling well,,,,rest, liquids, take care of yourself! How fun to have your stuff started.

DR,
Your son did Great,,,bet you are very proud of him!

mg,
Hope all goes well and they go quickly,,,,ouch! Will be thinking of you and praying also. Hope to see you posting again very soon.

Well, off to go wrestle the laundry monster some more,,,and then I have a movie to watch that has to be back today,,,see ya later,

Kelly

Central, WI(Zone 4a)

Suzie,
we posted at the same time,,,,hope you have fun tonight,,,,it's good to get out and enjoy yourself,,,,I should listen to myself on that,,,LOL

Kitten just helped me loose a post. Not the first time but she is so cute.

Elaine, I hope you are feeling better real soon. This sure is the season for germs.

Mg with a kidney stone, ouch! When will the big blast happen? Soon and successful I hope.

Susieq, somehow NJ and Tractor Supply don't go together in my mind. We have similiar stores here with a different name; farm, ranch, garden, work clothes, boots, hardware, animal feed, tack, fencing, and baby chickens in the spring.

The greenhouse building will be done at my friend's place. We already have ours. Talk about a learning curve, it's different from starting stuff in the basement under grow lights. For those of you who are starting seeds, you can prevent damping off by spraying the baby plants with chamomile tea. I use 1 teabag in a quart of water, let it stand overnight. I water them with it too and something about the ph of it prevents that fungus that kills your little plants at the soil level. Julie tried it last year and was happy with the results.

Today I looked through seed catalogs and got my vegie seeds figured out. A neighbor came over and she will select what she wants, and then maybe we will add another neighbor's order and split the shipping cost. We've done that before. If you only want a couple of packets of seeds the shipping cost will easily double that. I have a lot of leftover seeds but some of them are too old to germinate well, and with a short growing season there is often not time to replant by the time I realize they aren't coming up. Since it has been snowing all afternoon it was nice to bury myself in summer things for a while. One of the things I am ordering this year is artichoke. They are horribly expensive in the supermarket, never less than $1 each. They'll have to be started in the greenhouse for 8 weeks before they go into the garden.

I've been having trouble posting on DG today, either it doesn't go at all or it posts several times. Probably it has something to do with all of the new DG forums and overloaded equipment. Let's see what happens this time.

There have been double postings all over DG today. LOL LOL I even saw a couple that had posted 3 and 4 times. It's been horribly slow, so everyone must really be enjoying the new forums. :)

Mary, isn't it nice to have help with your postings? Sometimes my baby comes over ... takes her nose and keeps nudging my wrist off the keyboard as if to say ... "mama you've been sitting there long enough". They'll sure let you know if you ignore them.
Thanks for the tip about the chamomile. I didn't know that. Will have to give it a try. :)

Kelly, how is your movie? I've got a kids movie I've been meaning to watch, but haven't gotten around to yet. Did anyone see the one about Winn Dixie the dog? I read the book. It was cute.

Well, got the tomato seeds planted and a little thyme plant. Other than that haven't done anything else.

Has anyone heard from Susan? I started to call, but always feel like Sundays are family days.

Haven't seen Maria either. Hope all is well with her, also.

Well, hi to everyone. Hope you are having a good evening.

mornin_gayle - sorry to hear about the kidney stone and hope the treatment works.

That's something I didn't know and good useful advice, though we won't be starting seeds here for another couple of months. Thanks.

I think, a lot of newbies. Saw a post in "Holidays and Special Events" forum on : GROWING STRING BEANS ( ALL KIND). This from a member-nonsubscriber who just signed up.

I'm just in from two consecutive OSO rehearsals for the concert tomorrow. The Sibelius Symphony will go fine. I need to work a bit on the Kodaly and the Dompierre is FULL of irregular rhythms and I play it very badly (along with most the rest of the orchestra). Hopefully they will listen to the solo violin and not us. I've even tried entering the rhythms into my notation program and listening to it. We've got things like alternating 5/8 and 6/8 bars (two beats in both except a 5/8 bar is either 2/8 plus 3/8 OR 3/8 plus 2/8 and 6/8 bars normally have two beats of 3/8) and then a bar of 9/8 which instead of having the normal 3 beats (of 3 8th notes each) has 4 beats (2/8, 2/8, 2/8, and 3/8). And then we have notes which come on the 3rd 8th note of a beat and the next one will be on the second 8th of a 3/8 beat. It's a nightmare in two of the 5 movements. The other 3 movements are more straight forward, TG.

10 pm. DH is back from Europe, but he arrived while I was in rehearsals and is fast asleep.

Have a good night everyone.

Ann

PS I tried running water through my dryer lint trap and it runs clear. So I guess I've not been using TOO many dryer sheets. I guess with DH back home that laundry monster will catch up with me too.

Central, WI(Zone 4a)

Mary,
ooooo, lol,,,kitten dancing on your keyboard again??? LOL

Elaine,
You're right,,,,,Something Very strange was happening off and on all day around here. Mooshka does the same thing with me,,,,nudges my arm,,,,like Hey,,,enough of that atupid thind,,,,Play with Me,,,LOL. I watched Polar Express. It wasn't what I expected but was cute anyway. Last night I watched Bewitched,,,,also different that I thought it would be. Was O.K.

Ann,
Glad your DH is safely home. oooo, back to back rehearsals,,,,,,you are way to energetic for me,,,LOL,,,,,,And you lost me at,,,,,, I need to work a bit on the Kodaly and the Dompierre have no clue as to what that means,,,,but, as long as you do,,,it's all good,,,,LOL

Well, was just checking in quick,,,I'll be back to post tomorrows daily later on.

Have a good evening all,
Kelly

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Kodály and Dompierre are composers. We are playing pieces written by both of them.

Kodály - Dances of Galánta

François Dompierre - Les Diableries for violin and orchestra
David Stewart, violin

From the orchestra web site -
Thrill to the gypsy music of Kodály’s native Hungary in his Dances of Galánta. Next, OSO concertmaster, David Stewart, leads the orchestra in François Dompierre’s Les Diableries, depictions of the Devil in all his guises inspired by the folk music of Quebec. Sibelius closes the concert with an emotional evocation of his Finnish homeland in his Symphony No. 1, the majestic work that first revealed his distinctive symphonic voice.

It's the Les Diableries which have the diabolical rhythms!

Ann

Central, WI(Zone 4a)

Ann,
Interesting,,,,don't worry about all those changes in rhythyms,,,you are a pro,,,you'll do it just fine.

Kelly

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

VA, like gg, you lost me. Don't know 2/4 3/8, unless it is for measuring flour, sugar, wood, string, etc. I know technical talk may be understood by some, but I just understand the music I like. Glad that you have the "small muscles" to play it. Glad DH got home, I know he will rest better in his own bed.

mg, want to get together and trade "kidney stone" stories. Yeah, I know that you don't right now. Wish you all the luck in the world, in getting them pulverized. Hope you feel better soon.

Sarv, glad you had a good afternoon/evening with family. I would suspect that the grouchy DIL wants something, either from you or other son.

Mary, occasionally Miss Boots, who does not get the attention she once did, because of the Jack Russell, will sometimes catch me sitting at the computer, and come walk across the keyboard, interrupting everything I have going. I just usually stop and give her her "mom time" and then she is content to go lay in a sunny window. If Mr. B. the Jack is in the house, he immediately jumps into my lap, and it is almost like he is saying "she's all mine, what do you think you are doing in her lap?" They get along, but cannot understand that my lap is big enough for both at the same time. When Boots goes outside (she is too dignified to use a litter box) about 3 times a day, Mr. B always lets me know that she is at the door and wanting back in. She never makes a sound, but he knows that she is there. Animals are incredible. BTW, thanks for the chamomille tea tip.

101, sorry for your sniffles. Working outside in that wind is just an invitation for sinus, cold, allergies. Stay warm, drink plenty of fluids, and have a cup of chicken soup. I started taking Vitamin C this winter, along with my regular allergy meds, and so far so good. DM has a cold, and will be calling the Dr tomorrow to see if he will prescribe something without me having to take her in. If you want to get sick, just go to a Doctor's waiting room.

dr, hope those new plants do well for you. Are you having flooding problems from the rain? I saw on the news that a sea lion climbed on a car,do you suppose to get away from the wet?

Susieq, yeah, those DH's get antsy when they are couped up. Hope you had a chance to get out and do something fun.

Well, we went to church this moring, then home for lunch. I tried to grab a nap, but the phone was wild. We then went to church at the "country church" that we are trying to support. It is an afternoon service. Well, when we arrived, DH wanted to look in the trunk of the car to see if he had remembered to bring everything he needed for a visit to his DM. Well, he ended up locking our keys in the car. So I borrowed a car, came home and got the extra set of keys and went back to the church. I arrived in time to hear about 20 minutes of the sermon. After that church, we headed about 50 miles up the road to visit his DM in the rehab hospital. Had a good visit and thought she looked lots better. She will probably be there another 2 weeks or so. His older sister had told us that she wasn't doing well at all. You can send 10 people into a situation and you will get 10 different opinions of the same situation. Can you say she is an alarmist? On the way home, DH says do you want to stop and get something to eat. I say if you eat, you will have to stop and get it. There is a chain of "burger joints" called White Castle in this area, you all may know them. Everytime I eat there I swear that I will never do it again. Well, he says he wants to stop at one. For those of you who don't know what I am talking about, they are very thin patties of beef? on a bun, with fried onions, and pickles, and steamed, until the buns are soft. They are about a 4 bite size, and everytime I eat them, I have indigestion that you wouldn't believe. So far so good though. They cause me such gastro upset that if I don't belch, then it goes to the other end, and indigestion to boot. They are good, but sometimes you have to calculate the discomfort. They are about a 6 month between visits thing.

So, home to return phone calls while we have been gone, then to watch Desparate Housewives. The only tv show that I watch. Did I tell you, I bought a new tv for the family room, moved the old one to the bedroom, and had them both hooked up to "dish". Now I can escape the constant stream of sports events by retreating to the bedroom.

Well, I am off to look at other forums before I go to bed.

Hope everyone has a good night, and restful sleep.

dcat,

Ahhhhhhh,,,,mmmmmm,,,,,sliders,,,,,We had White Castles in IL also,,,,Love them!

Hi All,

Tomorrow's daily is up in the Parking Lot
Here's the link if anyone needs it.
http://davesgarden.com/place/t/568862/

Nity Nite,
Kelly

Just a quick hello before I turn in. I've had quite a bit of trouble posting again today. Had fun over in the fragrant garden forum. Went over to find out I had posted 3 times. LOL LOL Got them edited out, though.

Ann, I don't know anything about bells or violins, but I did take piano lessons. Played a bit, but finally gave my piano to our church when we built a new one as we needed one for the choir room and I didn't really play that much anymore. I only played for my personal enjoyment, though.

Defoe, we have Crystel instead, but I understand that they are the same thing. Every now and then you just get hungry for them. Can't say why exactly. :) We'll go get a bag, sit down and go back in time for a bit.

Kelly, the DH just watched Bewitched last night. He said the same thing.

Well, forgive me if I don't address everyone. It's late, and I'm beat. Hope all has a good night and wake up feeling refreshed. If my sniffels are better tomorrow, we're going to see my MIL and FIL, so might not be on until late.
Hugs all way round ... Elaine

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

I just woke up from an unplanned nap. Molly and I were watching a movie on TV after dinner, but I think we each missed the ending and snored some zzzz's on the couch and chair. We had a long but productive day. Photo is of starting the insulation today. Tomorrow AM the roofing gets ordered, and we hope to pick it up later tomorrow.

Bonnie, there used to be a chain of "Royal Castles" in south FL when I was a youngster. Same indegestion!
