MARIA I am sorry I got confused about who was talking about WW11. I went and read you blog. I encourage you to not waste it on a blog. Put it down and try to have it published. It is a side of WW11 that has never been writen about. I come from partly German background. My people came here right after WW1. They may have been better off where they were. They came straight to the coal mines in Central ILL. At that time it was something unbelievable. We have all come a long way in this country. I hate to see us backslide in our moral and fairness as a nation. Most americans Do not understand how someone like hitler can get in control. they do not understand it could happen here. but i knew a German American lady that told me the average Geremn did not really know who hitler was much less what he was doind till it was to late.

hehehe
I'll even throw in the yard to do *what ever* ! LOL
Our weather has been horrible here. Lot's of rain and wind. we have been under tornado watches with some warnings around. Will be under a watch until 9 p.m. I had to power down a while ago. I *thought* I heard a bit of hail, but not sure. Yuck, guess I didn't blow hard enough. Sorry Susan. I tried ... I *really* did. LOL LOL
Speaking of Susan ... I talked with her just a min. She sounded good, but her arm is still numb. Her throat is a bit sore from the tube inserted from the surgery. I imagine she'll be sore tomorrow, but was surprised she sounded so chipper. I'm afraid I'd be wining. I hope she milks this for all she can. :) Told her we all misssed her.
Okay, who likes hot wings? I know I know. They're not good for you ... but the DH ordered them, and I do so love em.

Meezer this is waht you call a real action picture , practicing for hockey that's what he looks like is doing ADORABLE.....
And I agree with you people give too much to kids , by the time that they are in their teen they are so jaded because they were given everything that they start looking for drugs as a new thing , drinking and who know's what else. They dont have any respect to anyone because they have been made feel so important that they only see themselves and no one else. I had two sons they were well taken care of on the other hand they learn early about work and money plus they had things to do at home and running the streets was not an option. They were busy all the time with me or my husband we were outdoor type of people and trust me I went along to most of their outings even some that were not that interesting such as clay pigeon shooting, but went anyway. They never did drugs or drink themselves to oblivion , They were introduced to wine very young and they knew that it was something special not to be abused.
It is a *good thing* I am not a parent. I'd probably be arrested. LOL LOL I don't see how parents raised their kids years ago without their parents during the war when they were shipped over seas. I read something in Dear Abby that made me smile the other day. Someone wrote in and said ... If you are trying to make a point with your child by not giving in to them ... then please make it outside or in the bathroom.
I say ... Amen!

Happy Friday the 13th to all of you. Have always celebrated it in this household. First date with DH was on Friday, January 13, 1967. We generally go out to dinner on every Friday the 13th, but this time he's in Brussels with his cousin. so the dinner will have to be postponed a week.

I didn't realize that I was poor, until I was almost out of high school.
I think there are many families with material wealth who are much poorer in many ways than some of those which are financially poor.
We have a number of clients at the FC who hide from their children that they use the program. (That's why we don't put any marks on the cans to help rotate the stock, but rely on other organizational means instead). I recall one very heavy man - a single father of college age kids, who developed heart problems and eventually had a fatal heart attack. We were quite fond of this client but didn't feel that we could communicate our condolences to his family in any way because we weren't quite sure that they knew he used our program.
I've had a few root canals myself. I've never found them as awful as they are reported to be, and they do save a tooth which a generation ago would have been yanked. But it IS a long tedious time to hold your mouth open as they have you full of rubber dams and tubes. The finishing bit in a couple of weeks - is that a crown? They don't always do a crown right away, but the tooth can become quite brittle after a root canal and could possibly fracture in such a way that it would HAVE to be removed; so a crown is generally recommended. BTW, my last crown was a long after the fact crown on a tooth with a root canal and they temporary crown they used was molded plastic rather than the aluminum cap they used to use. I could hardly distinguish it from the regular tooth.
Glad your MIL is doing well.
Am not connected at the moment. Will have to look at Maria's blog later. Most likely after the OSO concert on Monday.
MaryE - I had the good fortune to visit Dresden - almost 10 years ago. Was at a Viola Congress that had been held in Markneukirchen - a small violin-making town south of Leipzig. After the Congress there was a bus tour too Dresden with a stoop in Seiffen (where they make the wooden pyramids that many people have at Christmas). The east had been opened up for 6 years at that point but it was still striking how much war damage there was in the East of Germany and the still visible war damage in Dresden was enormous. They, at that time, were in the early stage of restoring the large church which had been destroyed and had all the stone fragments catalogued and lined up to be included in the reconstruction. That church, now restored, has just been re-opened.
And in 1976-77, we spent nearly a year in Hamburg. There were still areas in that city which had war rubble, but it was the mass graves of the war bombing victims, many of whom suffocated because of the fires, that really got to me. There are still questions being asked by some as to whether the amount of mass destruction and loss of civilian lives by bombing was necessary so near the end of the war.
In the outskirts of Berlin, there are some war rubble hills. They are used now for sports activities. When I first saw them in early 1976, they still had almost no vegetation on them. By 1990, that had changed and grass and even some trees were growing well.
Kelly, thanks for the report from Susan. I hope her recovery goes well.
Darius, can I come for breakfast?
Hey, where are you all this evening? I closed my Internet connection while I went to watched the Royal Canadian Air Farce on TV. Hysterically funny satire. They generally skewer all Canadian political parties (especially during an election) and take aim at George W. Bush quite often too. http://www.airfarce.com/
When I got back and finished my message, no new ones on Coffee....
The Aquafit group goes out for brunch the second Friday of each month. I played hooky from the FC and joined them. Not so sure that I’ll do regular aquafit on Fridays though. I don’t think much of the instructor. As a result of going to FC late, I was there until after 6 this evening. But with DH still away, it doesn’t matter too much.
Good thing that I copied this message into my Word Processor. My computer often encounters something when I go to various Internet sites that causes it to die. Just did it twice in succession. I look forward to the new computer in a month or so.
I think that I’ll sign off now and check back before I go to bed.

Have had an awful time posting here today very slow or not at all, finally decided not to bother at all.
Ozarikian, what you did sounds fascinating, would have liked that kind of work. Glad you liked reading the blog, it mostly for my children who have been after me for a long time but are sorry to miss your coments on it since they are not members of GD. I have written some more , my daughter was here tonight and simply put it into the blog, LOL!!!
Many have said I should write a book but I think others have done that before me.
I agree with you, Orchid, children are very spoiled today, it starts when they are very little, seems to me parents are afraid of them and feel it is simpler to just give in rather than discipline them to teach them right from wrong.
It is so nice to know Susan is doing ok, hope she will continue to do so
Your stories bring back the memories of my Dad's WWII stories. And especially kinda sad today - today would have been my parents 56th Wedding Anniversary. They were married on Friday the 13th, 1950 on the island of Texel, the Netherlands. ....missing them bad today......
Just Hi Ann, we posted at the same time.
Did not know I was poor either, while growing up if I wanted something my father said simply no, he NEVER said we have no money to buy this for you.
I think wealth is what some one thinks it is, all very relative, ten dollars can mean very much to one and hardly nothing to another
Thanks for posting, Maria. It reminded me to check your blog. no time to read it thorooughly now, but I've save the page. With luck I'll be able to access it even when I'm not connected.
Ann
I can imagine you are missing your parents, Kooger, you lost them too soon.
Has everyone gone to bed?
Good Evening all. I have had trouble logging on today, been on 2 times, but tried numerous other times, and just gave up.
Darius, The vegetable-bean soup sounds wonderful. And Baked French Toast, with Praline topping and maple syrup. Never had it, but it sure sounds good. I love to shop at Bed, Bath and Beyond, they have some of the neatest things. Why haven't you taught those animals to talk? They are good company, even if they can't talk.
Mary E. I saw the Washington weather on tv, 26 days of rain. And did you see that sea lion on top of the car. Can you imagine the insurance adjustor's reaction to that claim?
Ozarkian, did you work for the government/ That sounds like a very interesting job. Such a shame when history reveals the moral decline of this country.
Sarv. I am going to look for a book like that. Mother's writing is so shaky now, the book will probably be for me to give to my DGD. I may get a tape recorder for mom, as I hate to think of the things that I may never know unless it is recorded.
Maria, I agree with Ozarkian, have it published. I am sure that your children will cherish it some day.
GG, now don't be getting selfish. I figure that there are enough of us here that we could each have Darius several weeks. So who is making her schedule? Do we give her any say in this, or do we just schedule it, and send the fare for the airline tickets?
101 I like hot wings. But I think it's too late to be eating them tonight. And on the subject of children, I overheard a child, looked to be about 10 years old in Walmart arguing with his mother, didn't get any details, but he said to her, you spank me and I will call child welfare. So he had her bluffed, because he knew that she didn't want a state agency to intervene. The little rat, I would like to see what he thought of foster care. Bet it's not as good as being at home.
OF, there are many schools of thought on raising children. DH and I were at odds about that. He always wanted to give our son the things that he didn't have growing up, and I on the other hand took the conservative line, and wanted him to work for things so that he would have a better appreciation for them. But I believe that environment plans a huge role in the outcome.
VA, so glad to hear that you defied the luck of Friday the 13th. Never too superstitious myself. Root canals are not that bad, but I told the dentist after that 1 1/2 hour session, that it was the first time in my life that I had my mouth open that long without talking or eating. They put a temporary cap on it, and will finish and put on the permanent crown next session.
Kooger hugs to you. Never easy loosing parents, but I take it they were young? I just realized today that my dad would have been 89 if he were living. He's been gone 17 years, and I miss him as much now as I did at first. It is a different kind of missing though, now I miss just being with him and hearing him tell about his life. The first few years it was the "hole in the heart" kind of feeling.
Well I had a pretty busy morning, but was home by about 1:30, and accomplished some things here. I thought that I would have a peaceful couple of days with DH gone, but it hasn't worked out that way. I went to visitation tonight for the neighbor's mother, and saw a lot of people that I went to school with. I know these occasions are not for socializing, but it seems that weddings and funerals just put people in our paths that we haven't seen for awhile. It was really sort of weird tonight. The lady who died, her son was there and 2 of his ex wives and his present one. I sure would have been uncomfortable, but it didn't seem to bother him. My twin sister was his first wife, and I dated him in high school. Talk about keeping it in the family!! At one time, I found myself talking to 4 guys that I had dated in high school, and thanking my lucky stars that dating was all there was, and it didn't go any further. Can't imagine my life with any of them.
Well DH just called from Florida, said it is raining and windy, and supposed to be about 30 in the morning. He is not coming home to much better weather here, it is raining, but supposed to turn to snow during the night.
Well, I am going to go look at some more forums, but will be back before bed time.

Nity Nite All
Like some of you I had some difficulty with DG - at least this morning I couldn't connect at all. But later in the day I've not had any difficulty.
Have updated the schedule page of my handbell web site with the planned music for the rest of the season -
http://www.magma.ca/~fredrkng/Bells/schedule.html
Now I have to finish making the assignments as to who plays which bells. In some bell choirs everyone plays the same bells all the time. In mine, they move around although I've got a handful of ringers that refuse to play the bigger bells and another group that prefer the big ones. Our biggest bell, which we don't always use, weighs in at about 6 pounds.
I washed the sheets on my bed. have to go fetch them from the dryer and remake it so I can go to bed.
Good night everyone.
Ann
Hi all
I too have had a horrible time posting today ... but have been over at Maria's site reading this evening.
Maria, I don't want to embarris you ... but you *really* should write a book. It's so good and *very* worthy of a book. I'd so love to have something like that from my Mom. I'm going to start asking more questions. Maybe the next time I go home, I'll just stick a tape recorder in my pocket. I'm famous for that. :) I have a couple of tapes of Grandma just talking about nothing in particular.
Kelly, I say let's plan them for her too. LOL We could even plan the menus, too? LOL LOL
{{{Kooger}}}
Defoe, an old flame of mine lives in the same town as my parents ... and the other day they saw him. Mom was telling me about it. I asked how he looked and she said "fat and bald". That was soooo not like my Mamma! I nearly fell out laughing.
Well, it's already gotten late, so I won't try to respond to everyone tonight. Hope everyone will have rain tomorrow if you need it and sun if you don't. Hope your aches and pains are well if you're aching.
Here's a special hug for Susan ... hoping she will have a restful night.
Hugs all way round ... elaine
101, all of these guys had the pooched bellies, and bald heads, one had 2 hearing aids. At least DH has a full head of hair, and a little pooch, I think sometimes he needs the hearing aids, but I have diagnosed his hearing loss as "selective hearing". Can't imagine what life would have been like with any of the 4. So, tonight, I am counting my blessings.
LOL @ the Selective hearing loss,,,,we used to say that about my Papa,,,,you had to say everything twice, 'cause he *couldn't* hear it,,,,but,,,,drop a quarter on the rug and he would hear That,,,LOL,,,,Great memory!!!!
Kelly
