Hi!
Why isn't there a Georgia gardening forum? There are about 3000 georgians in DG. Let's start one?

spider,
Maybe we should lay low a bit? With all the new forums and changes lately, maybe we're getting too greedy? The powers that be may just be a wee bit tired.
OK Berry!
LOL! I think we've got plenty to keep us busy.
Speaking for myself, I am a bit tuckered out after the hoopla of the last couple days (and the frenzied behind-the-scenes work that went on in order for Dave to successfully launch "Home Talk".)
However, my post wasn't intended to discourage you from trying - just pointing out that your "base of support" isn't quite as big as it might appear at first blush. (Now, if you can persuade those 2,800+ members to subscribe to a Georgia forum, that would go a LONG way toward motivating us to create it ;o)
yes we need a georgia forum. i am technally in south carolina but live on the gorgia border.
maybe in the future we can have one.
I logged on here today, although I joined several months ago.
Actually I don't use DG as much as I'd like, (I use Garden Watchdog a LOT, will admit) because I don't always find discussions appropriate to my climate. I'm wondering if we could even start with quadrants like NE, SE, NW and SW to begin with and see how the interest fairs? That might make less work for Terri and folks.
Not that I am looking for any immediate action, oh, my. The work you have gone to in the last week is incredible.
But I would love to talk to others about gardening in terms with things that really effect my garden: like climate!

The classification of forums is a conundrum when the layout of the forums is flat.
I am interested in regional discussion like Georgia. As I think about it more, I really mean I am interested in garden events near my home which is a relatively small part of Georgia. Furthermore, I'd like to share garden experiences with those near my home as well as with those in a similar Zone.
What if a message forum was presented as one mass of messages which one filters by a classification or a keyword. In this environment, each message a person writes is associated with multiple classifications. Hmmm, one might spend more time classifying one's post than writing it. How about automatic classification by keywords in the message? Perhaps readers could weight and add to the automatic keyword classification by voting to add or remove classifications of a message. Server indexing tasks would be tremendous.
I'd love a Georgia forum! There are so many gardening events, sales, plant societies, etc, plus I'd love to compare what does well with others in the same climate. I know Georgia has three distinct areas (coastal, piedmont, and mountains), but it would still be a huge benefit. I feel like there are times when I want to share what is blooming, but I sound like I'm bragging to those in the northern climates, and that's the last thing I want.
Oh nooooo Pins.
I don't want to miss any shows nor plant sales. I am finding very difficult to find information about them. Please tell me specially of any plant sales around. I know about the big plant swap in May, nothing else.
As I am new in Georgia, I woul dlove to find out what grows here, I have no idea about the right plants and even what type of soil is there.
See? Another reason to have a Georgia forum. lol
Spider, are you planning on going to the SE Flower Show week after next at the GA World Congress Center? It's fabulous! This year's theme is Italian gardens. You'll love it! http://www.flowershow.org/
Oh Pins, don't tell me it is fabulous. I am moving houses next week so will be very busy waiting for furniture etc etc...:o(((
count me in where do i vote? anybody know how to put your zone on the tab and whats the diff on a or b?
Yeah, pins! Don't you go bragging! LOL I can handle jealousy I guess. ;P
bulhound, look here. I was going to look for you earlier but I am not sure where you live. http://ww4.bhg.com/bhg/category.jhtml?catref=cat170008 (close the annoying add).
OR: at the top of this page, click the my info tab, then my preferences, then click on location on the left. It will take you to another USDA map and there is a pull down for you to put your zone in.

oops forgot my pic but since we have ]i think[ just launched a ga forum ill start with what i got coming up,the tulips are popping up daffodils are six inches high in aweek!
the grape hycynth is doing well the torch lillys are growing well and i forgot whats coming up on the left of the hycynth oh well ...and pins you were wondering about the soil, its not, its what they make the pots out of that hold the soil
the first term youll learn down here is {amendments}.
here is the latest pic on my greenhouse project, i had a good day today even though i had to keep ducking in and out of the rain. and the round bed dafodils are growing an inch a day! and whatever i planted to the left of the grape hycynth is popping up all over! if it seems as though im excited, the round raised bed pic in my last entry has been a dream come true this year and i look after it like a mother bear watches over her cub and my neighbors? they sure slow down to look at my flowers. i plan to build 2 cement garden seats this summer and myabe ill see a passer by stop a moment and enjoy the bed.
I vote for a Georgia forum. Please, Please. After living in a townhome for 6 years, hubby and I moved to the "country," and are starting from scratch getting a 1 acre lot planted, seeded, sodded, etc...you get the picture. Would love to have easy access to other Georgia gardeners. I will definetly be going to the Southeastern Flower Show in Atlanta. Hope to see you all there!
Bring it on! I would love it..
Larkie
i just found out that tickets are available at most pike outlets in metro atl, ive got to check out that link to find out what day, i ran into a master gardener today. what a garden she had, and a built in pond and waterfall to boot. and its winter here, well sort of ....LOL
Count me in...I`m all for it.!
Please Please Please Dave,
It never hurts to beg just a little........
Goodness, guess I've been so busy I missed this!
Ana, I'm so proud of you :)
Like Pins said, there is much to share. We may not have the most folks on DG, but we sure do like to mingle! It's also a wonderful way to mentor newcomers to the site, it is so vast that many have not even noticed the Round-up Forum or figure out how to do a hyperlink. I've found many who appreciate the 1 on 1 help of a fellow Georgian.
Does eveyone here know of the Mid-Georgia Swap? This will now be our 4th year and we have them every Spring & Fall! Y'all are invited! http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/565617/
If anyone ever needs help here, just ask 'Vi', K?
Thanks for your patience - I finally found a few spare minutes to get it up and running tonight. So without further ado, here ya go! http://davesgarden.com/forums/f/region_ga/all/
