Gravois Mills, MO(Zone 6a)

Gayle susan is 200 miles west of me as the bird flys and you cannot believe what snow and rain mean to all of us. Ozarks have been going thru a 5 yr drought. the fires around susan were up into SW Mo and NW Ark last week. We are all thrilled about moisture.

Susan That white stuff is on its way to me. Rianing light right now.

Starkville, MS

Its 70 degrees here and I'm lovin' being able to leave the door open!! What I don't like is that I have *lots" of bulbs coming up faster than they should and I *know* the next cold snap will kill off some blooms.

Hope all are healing.

Maria, check Dave's thread out, he explains it well.
http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/567016/

Look up at the "tabs" next to "Home", we have 2 new ones. If you click on "HomeTalk" it takes you to a whole new section of DG. Pretty exciting!

mg

MG, I sure am glad you explained that to Maria. Couldn't for the life of me figure out how to word it. Didn't think of just copying the link. LOL
Ginni, isn't this weather just wonderful? It's 72.4 degrees here. I think there's rain in the forcast, though. I'm planning to send it to Susan. She needs it worse than we do. :) Actually, we need it, I just don't *want* it.

Bloomingdale, OH(Zone 6a)

No problem, lol. I've been "exploring" the changes since 8:50am when they took effect. Addicted? Naw!

I'm going to go take a nap now or I will be in no shape for chat tonight, and I have a feeling it will be a doozy.

mg

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

Thanks, MG,have a nice nap, I think I need one too

Schroon Lake, NY(Zone 4a)

Susan your snow on the pond photo is great!

m5 I wish I could give the snoozy furbaby a squish!! (Just a little gentle one).

mg is powernapping for chat!! (My friend toaught me to do that before really good estate sales)

orchid~do you do upholstery?

dr~hooray for Hawaii!!

Elaine~ be careful with the acorns on the driveway! They'r'e like ball bearings and can be slipperier than ice!

Janis~ hope all goes well with your dr. appt.

Hi to everyone else! I don't get the computer for too long DH is working from home.

I had a great scary (horse) jumping lesson this morning, one screw up I ended up quite nicely balanced on the horse's neck...no graceful dismount from that position!! I have such a good natured horse- she saves my backside (and neck) a LOT> THe adrenaline rush perked me up!! AND We had SUNSHINE!!!
It's been a good day and I have spring fever which is not good since we still have like four months of winter.

Bye for now.

DMC, ooooh, do be careful on that horse! We've had enough accidents around here. :) The hickery nuts are far worse than the acorns. That's one tree I could do without!

Janis, how are you?

Okay, gotta get in that kitchen. ;)

Dillonvale, OH(Zone 6a)

Afternoon all!!!!

Well, here is what I know right now...... I had the MRI done, and went to PT, where they told me my fall on Sunday undid all the therapy up to this point. I am really concerned as to what the MRI is going to show. I am in a good bit of pain (trying really hard not to whine) and I have taken more medicine than I should have, but Darvocet really doesn't do much for me :( I only have a couple of the muscle relaxers left, asked them to call more in, but haven't heard yet. I see the DR Thursday and have another therapy session. I drive a stick shift, so I can't even really drive LOL So DH is gonna take me to the grocery store, and I"ll check back in later

Hugsto all

Hi All,

Just had a chance to check in quick,,,my, there have been some changes around the garden today haven't there?????

I haven't had a chance to catch up on all that has changed,,,,,but will be doing so tonight. I want to make sure I understand the changes so I'm not putting anything out there that I shouldn't be.

I trust the subscribers (for the most part) however I am still careful about certain things. Now that some of the site has been opened up to non-subscribers I have to do a little homework,,,ya'll Know how Anal I am and what an information junkie I am,,,,LOL

Sorry,,,not going to take time to comment on everything right now. Have just a couple mins. but will check back in later.

Oh man, I am tireddddddd. I watched a set of almost 2yr old twins all afternoon. Man, that was a killer!! Their mom is a teacher and I am a friend of their grandma. Long story, not bearing telling right now!! I'll sleep tonight I am sure! I just got all the toys picked up and put away.

Oz- welcome to the coffee klatz! Throw something on the table to share - we aren't fussy!

News just came on and a body got put into a landfill by mistake. They are trying to find it - what a mess!! caching caching- do I hear lawsuit!!!

Woof - take it easy - let DH do all the work - how about a hot bath to soak the aches and pains away.

tgif - it just "ain't" fair you having 70 deg weather. The sun was out for a wee bit this morning, but now it is cloudy and gloomy and chilly. How many days until spring????

Hmmm, all this new stuff on Dave's will take some getting used to - I can see that my housework will suffer for sure...

DH is serving up dinner, so gotta go for now- don't forget chat tonight!!

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Well, my day was shot first thing this morning. I have been zapped by the "disorganization bug|". I got up at 6:30, had a cuppa, then started on paying bills, balancing checkbooks, etc. I only have 10 accounts that I keep. (I didn't get it all done) Then rushed to get dressed to get to my hair appointment. It started raining on the way there, and me without an umbrella ! Ugh, I hate that. Got lightly highlighted, and cut BTW, I wanted it to be a subtle change, and DH and DM didn't notice, so I think it was successful. Had to go to Walmart, grabbed a sandwich and drove home, where I promptly fell into my recliner until I got sleepy, then hit the couch. What a slug I have been. DH left about 2:00 to go to the hospital, and will spend the night. So I have to get some on this stuff done tonight!!

101 was glad to see a picture of you, your girl, you always talking about gaining weight, can you tell us where? You look good.

Meezer, I answered your question, going to gray was me. Sammi is so cute. I bet they will all be friends in a short while. Just sit and hold him and forget about doing any work.!!

Welcome Orchid, come on in and join us. There are no rules here, so whatever is on your mind, just spill it.

Vann, the told us about the postage increase some time ago, but by the time the date rolls around most people have forgotten.

Joyous, Good morning-Afternoon-Evening Hope you had a good day.

Morningayle, I finally found out what Dave's surprise was. Haven't had time to explore it yet.

Woofens, sorry about your pain, and undid all the therapy, rats. Hope you get some relief soon.

dmc, jumping horses, Yikes, you be careful, we don't want any more spills here.

Well, I am going to take a break and work some on getting the paper work sorted out. I will be back later.

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

Hello every one, read all your posts, looked up the new lineup at DG, I like it, easy to find . I dont communicate with anyone who is not a registered membeer, can't even keep up here with all you busy guys.

I dislike like taking care of bills, defoe, and check book and anything that waits for me on my desk, rather wash the kitchen floor or whatever the house needs doing

Love your picture, Elaine!

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Changes in accessibility will be interesting. I wouldn't do a seed trade with a non member, the price to join is so reasonable. I suppose Dave figures he can generate more income by opening it up that way, thinking that they will join eventually. I'm not comfortable with people who won't ante up the minimal joining fee....and I doubt that I would answer an email from someone I haven't "met" previously in a forum, just call me paranoid.

Spent most of the day ignoring dust bunnies (I did a quick run through yesterday when I knew guests were coming for kitty fixes) and twice had curious girls coming up to sniff Sammi. Won't be long before they realize he's here to stay. He was exploring my ear this afternoon, then decided it needed a good wash. What a tickle!

Dinner is almost ready, made chicken enchiladas, so it was an easy fix. They had those big roasted chickens on sale at the store the other day, I picked up two (2 for $10) hacked one in half, had one for dinner, disected what was left and still have enough for another meal after making the enchiladas.

So glad our patients are doing well. Sorry Woofen's therapy got undone with her stairway bumps...One step forward two steps back. There's just no end to it, is there. Hope you get more pain meds and they can get you back in shape quickly.

Smoke alarm is going off....dinner must be ready....

M5,
Have never used Nice & Easy,,,,if it's a semi-permanent color, it won't lighten the natural color,,,it will only blend in the gray,,,if you want to try it, I would suggest going 2 shades lighter than your natural,,,,that way it won't darken your natural,,,but it will blend in your gray. Very cute pics of Sammi,,,what a little sweet heart!!!!!!!

orchid,
welcome to coffee and...., nice to meet ya,,,Baby Boo looks like quite the little stinker,,,LOL and Dozzie looks so comfy

Ann,
ooo, that must have been hard having to inject poor kitty all the time,,,good luck with the driveway,,,if I were closer, I'd come help,,,I Really need the exercise.

DR,

mg,
have a good nap before chat tonight,,,LOL And have fun exploring.

oz,
I haven't had time to check out all the changes,,,but seems to me all the *original* forums are still closed to non subscribers,,,only the new ones are open to all. Just have to remind ourselves to be more careful when in those new forums,,,If you decide to wander into them. And yes, we have to protect ourselves. Don't want any weirdo's lurking,,,LOL Like we don't have enough of us already,,,ahhhh, roflol

Susan,
YYYeeehhhhaaaa,,,you're getting moisture!!!!!!!! Doin' a happy dance for you,,,LOL

Maria,
Have a nice nap,,,,

dmc,

well, off to do some more exploring.

I've never known that non-subs could get into dmail or much of anything else. That was a big shock today. It all seemed a lot harder to find today, plus I lost a long thing I had just typed into a roses thread when the thing went down. Oh, well...........

I'm off to dinner. See ya'll in the morning.

Himrod, NY(Zone 6a)

Well, DG sure has been busy today. The changes must have happened as I walked out the door this morning, go figure I kept hitting refresh trying to catch it before I left.

New hair color, ear washings (sounds better than a tongue lashing), bills to be paid, accounts to be balanced (and I thought 3 was bad) sounds like a well rounded day at coffee and.....

Just checked out one of the new forums about getting organized, yeah right! I have found that the DG diary is great for making lists of what one needs to do or when one has put stuff away and can't remember where we put it. (we meaning me!) No matter how hard I try to hide something out in the open I can never find it! Memory, it is a terrible thing to lose!

Had a great time shopping today. Michael's still had a lot of Christmas stuff at 75% off and I got a bundle. Gifts for next year, things for my shop and more decorations (just what I need!) Also had a lot of fun with the gals I went with. Needed day away. Yippie Skippie!!

It's time to check in with DF, once in the morning and evening and who knows when during the day. Have fun exploring all the new forums. G'night all.

Hi there,

Like many of you, I didn't realize that non subs could D-mail people either and I think perhaps that should be re-thought.

My take upon reading Dave's announcement was that the new forums would be open to everyone FOR AWHILE, but not likely for ever and that's not a bad idea. I know I was a member but not a subscriber for a whole year before I decided that I wanted to do more than just access plant files. I think it is likely that many of those who access one free part of the site will eventually come to the realization that the paid parts of the site are worth accessing as well - or they are likely to disappear and not stick around.

Spent time at the FC and taught 4 students. (1 is in Florida until next week). Spent more time on FC clients files and am now catching up on DG.

I like the ease with which we can now elect to watch or not watch the various forums.

Ann

Hi all
Finally got supper over with and kitchen is clean. We had shrimp scampi and a salad tonight. Got some things ready for the mail and am ready for my PJ's but wanted to check here first.

Thanks all for the nice compliments on the pic. You were suppose to be looking at my baby, not me. LOL

Defoe, I can't add 2 + 1. ;)

Janis, so sorry to here things are starting back at ground zero for you. Hope the therapy session goes well.

Susan, am still thinking about you. Hope you've been able to get everything ready now and you're not worrying too much.

Well, let me go for now, and I'll check in before I go to bed.

Fayetteville, NC(Zone 8a)

I had not seen "Polar Express" so rented it tonight on the cable iDemand movies. Nice pleasant thing to watch while I was knitting.

I'm off to bed. Hope someone gets up in time to make coffee.

I also did not realize non subscribers could d-mail subscribers. I sure will be watching my d-mail from now on,,,I did get a d-mail once from a woman asking about some seeds or a plant or something,,,I just responded that I sisn't have any. Didn't even think to check to see if she was a paid subscriber.

Like Ann, I also was a member for awhile before subscribing. Finally decided that I wanted access to the whole site and with Dave offering PayPal,,,was nice and easy. Best $15 I've ever spent as far as I'm concerned.

Kelly

Millbury, MA(Zone 5a)

Hi everyone,

The new forums look like they might be fun. I'll probably check out a few now and again. I'm another one who wasn't aware that non-subs had access to our Dmail addresses. So far I haven't gotten mail from anyone that I hadn't already gotten to "know" from various forums. I can understand why many people here are expressing concern --- on the other hand I can't really see why someone parting with only $15.00 for a year makes her/him so much more trustworthy than someone who doesn't. I DO know that I wouldn't be prepared to just give my address to someone who hadn't also shared theirs in the address exchange!

The duckling last night turned out very well; however, I hadn't thought about it beforehand, but maybe the middle of Winter isn't the best time to cook it. The whole house smelled of roasted duck all night and into today! Can't really throw all the windows open and air the place out at this time of year. (Not that it smelled BAD, mind you, but enough is enough.) The first recipe I ever tried for this was in an Oriental recipe book and it came out great. This time the duck came with a packet of orange sauce so I decided not to use the Chinese spices, but to roast it at 475 for half an hour as that recipe directs in order to render out a lot of the fat, then to reduce the temp to 375 for the rest of the cooking time. I've had it in restaurants and been disappointed since they left all the fat under the skin and that did not make it very appetizing to me, at least.

Someone (so sorry, can't remember who it was!) asked what had caused the failure of the gold band that I made for a customer. I'd never seen any metal act like this before and thought that I'd been sold a bad piece of gold (had heard that metal can develop a crystaline structure if not treated properly) but when I talked to a tech, he stated that I had overheated part of the metal by concentrating the heat on the solder weld instead of heating the whole piece of metal first. Since I'd never worked with 10 k gold before and had never made a ring with such a large piece of metal (my customer wanted a 1/2 inch wide thumb ring made), I figured I'd give it the benefit of the doubt and try heating the whole piece as I tried to repair it. So far, so good. The ring is back in one piece again and we'll see what happens next. Even if it doesn't work out, I've certainly learned something new!

Kind of weird stuff going down here lately. I know that I've mentioned before that my mother has been driving me somewhat crazy these days. Things came to a head the other day and I almost lost it. Asked her to please take a vacation somewhere, anywhere away from me! She got me so upset that I actually went into the basement and cried for a little while. Had no idea what kind of effect that would have on DH. Today he acutually offered to "deck" my mom on my behalf! NOOOOOO! I must say that it was touching to see my non-demonstrative husband get that protective even though I certainly do NOT want him to take anything out on my mother. He said that that was only the second time in almost nineteen years that he had seen me cry and he was all set to try to do something about it.

Janis, so sorry about your fall wiping out PT progress! I only had one experience with PT, after breaking my ankle, but it was definitely not fun.

Carol (dr) hope you have a wonderful time on your trip.

M5, those pictures are wonderful! He looks so cute and innocent (if you don't know cats). All that upchucking is a little worrying, but I think you're right as to the most likely cause. To quote the vet/owner of the cat hospital that ours go to "Cats are barfy little animals"

I know that I haven't even come close to addressing everyone that I'd like to ---- oh yeah, before I forget again, welcome, oz. I'm tired though, didn't sleep well at all last night. Adios amigos! See you tomorrow.

Hi All,

Nity Nite All,
Kelly

Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)

Hi everyone. We made our quick overnight trip to deliver Fritz the dog back to his family, attend a nice dinner and a missions committee breakfast meeting, and and are now back to the civilized world of the wide open spaces of eastern Oregon where we belong. The Willamette Valley is a fast forward zoo and I'm sooooooo glad I don't live there anymore. At one time 1982 to 85 we lived about 30-40 miles from Daisyruffles. Yes, it was raining, and raining, and raining like it always does in the winter over there. Here at home we have no rain but the wind is blowing pretty hard. As we pulled into the driveway the horses greeted us with nickers. I did my animal feeding in the dark, so I just know that the horses and our dog Scout were all hungry and glad to see me, and the cats also greeted us with meows and rubs before we got the car unpacked.

Meezer, your new kitty is so cute all snuggled down for a nap. Being viewed with suspicion is better than being viewed as the enemy, so it looks like he will be a welcome companion soon. As you say, when they discover he is a warm body they'll all want to snuggle.

First thing in the morning I have to go to town and get our new kitten back from the vets where she has been boarding while we made our quick trip. We got home too late to get her tonight. I think the hardest part of the trip was leaving the kitty.

I've been reading for an hour trying to catch up, and didn't, so here I am anyhow. We were only gone about 30 hours and you guys talked a lot. A LOT!!

A new face at the table: welcome Orchidfancy! Have a seat, a cup of coffee, tea or whatever is on the counter, and a goodie to go with it (no calories in the cybergoodies) and just make yourself at home here.

I need to run over to see updates on the surgery patients, and will see you in the morning since it is getting to be work holding my eyes open. Staying up until midnight (last night) doesn't suit me at all, and hubby already went to bed about an hour ago so it didn't so him much good either. Gee, I used to think that was fun.......

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Since I last posted, cleared the bills and bank statements, have everything filed away. Need to get some seeds packaged to go out tomorrow, so after leaving here, still something to do.

Maria, I laughed when you said you would rather wash the kitchen floor than do bills etc. Me too, but don't have much choice.

Meezer, Dinner's ready the smoke alarm just went off!! Too funny. I bought DM another smoke alarm today as she is putting stuff on the stove and forgetting it. So upgrade the security a little.

GG, I am secretary for church-3accounts, 2 cemeteries, 3 rental accounts, 1 personal account and 1 farm account. Most of these were acquired during the period that I had not learned to say "NO". Since then, no is in my vocabulary, and changes may be made to serveral organizations.

Joyous, sounds like you had a good day. I love bargains.

Vann, I was a member first, then paid 2 months subscription to see if I would like it, and as they say "the rest is history".

101, do you have a talking calculator? LOL. No I do consider myself an accountant or anything, but somebody has to do things, and I am good at that, so that is how I got the jobs. DH doesn't have a clue about paying bills, balancing check books, if I die before he does, he will soon be without essential services, ie water, lights, heat, cable, phone, etc, and will probably be bankrupt to boot. LOL

McCool, glad the repair on the ring seems to be holding. I stand in awe of your abilities. Do you do sizing? Also, is there a good ring guard? In the winter, my rings just slide around on my fingers. I have arthritis in the knuckles, and to get the rings over them, they are always too big. I love jewelery. I have rings on every finger but the index and thumb. Every ring I own has a sentimental value. I have diamonds, a birthstone, and 2 rubies. I currently have 7 rings on. Look like some kind of Diamond Lil. LOL. DGD, is going to be just like me, she loves jewelery!!. Since she is the only grand child, she knows that one day she will have all of them, so she wants to know if I am buying more, and can she go with me to pick them out!!

Well, DH just called from the hospital, and he is staying the night. He said DM is doing well, but looks so tired. After all she has been through, I say she has that right. She is resting better, and beginning to eat more, so I say she is on the mend. DM is taking a cold, so I loaded her up on cough drops, this afternoon. I will check tomorrow, and if she needs it, will make an appointment with the Dr. As Rosana, Rosana Dana says," it's always something".

Well, I had to go check out the new "home forums" and I like what I see. I didn't know either that members have access to d-mail. Have to be more careful about who I reply to. Now tell me has anybody come up with a way to add more hours to the day, so that we can surf some of these forums? I'll never get anything done in the garden/yard now. There are so many things I want to do as projects. I like mosaic, want to make some trellises, and want to try my hand at hypertufta, concrete stepping stones, I want a green house, etc., etc, etc., DH is looking at a new pick up truck, and I swear, if he buys one, I am getting a greenhouse and a swimming pool to compensate for that expenditure. !! LOL. You know gotta balance the books.

So, where are the guys? Have they started their own thread, and have excluded us? Come on back guys!!!

Well, it is getting late, and I need to be off to bed. Adrenelin is flowing tonight, as UK got beat at basketball awhile ago, and I can't seem to settle down.

Well, sleep well, and meezer give Sammi some more room in the bed, so he will stay there all night.

Night All.

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

Defoe, It must be nice to know how to do book keeping the right way, I don't know it well at all, never had to do it, my husband secretary did it for me just handed over the bills to her all I had to do was sign the checks, LOL , thought that was neat but now that I am alone taking care of it wish I paid more attention. I don't procrastinate about any thing but when it cames to do doing desk work I am the worst. Seems I just about file three month of paid bills , which I do faithfully and always on time, another stack comes, my desk is always a mess.

Bonnie I *do* have a talking calculator ... but it doesn't do any good. LOL

cambridge md, MD(Zone 7a)

9kittymom: the picture of the bird and the snow is wonderful, I wish that we had some snow here in Maryland . I am afraid that it will come when we want it the least April....
