Rose Parade and Football *today*? :-)
On Sunday I watched the 2004 Rose Parade on the new TV (HD) and didn't even care that it was an old one! LOL
~julie~
Coffee and... For Monday, Jan. 2, 2006
Do you mean a day of torture? I don't care for the parade or the game.
Having a new satellite installed tomorrow, with a tv for me in the bedroom. Never again will I sit through a sports event. YEAH.
Simply wishing each of you a Happy New Year and lots of good days ahead.
cuckoo
That is cool. Elaine! I was upset today, there weren't any parades or bowl games. I thought TODAY was New Year's Day, not TOMORROW.
oops wrong thread, should have said that on yesterdays thread. LOL

=^..^=
Morning everyone! I am confused. I thought I would start the new year out right and get my fanny into the workout mode, but now I wonder if the place will be open. Hmm, gonna call them after 8am and see if they are open!!
Sheesh - Molly and Darius - you gals are working your tails off and eating mighty fine too!! We had a decent breakfast, but crappy hamburg helper for dinner (me cooking after I went shopping again for hours) DH was replacing the tie (sp) rods on his truck - they broke off driving to work. About scared him to death. He delights in tell me and I get sooo nervous - wish he'd just keep the bad news to himself!
Woke during the night to hear rain pouring down - seems like spring here instead of winter. All our snow is kaput and the puddles are taking it's place. But nothing like California - those poor folks out there.
This morning I'm pitching all the junk in the house (ok, I'm putting one batch of my fav cookies in the freezer for a treat) And I'll take a small bite of the blueberry coffee cake! LOL
Well, up at 6:30, as Mr B, had an urge to lift his leg. DH has gone to the hospital, as DMIL is having the pace maker put in today. They are "working" her in, as she is not on the surgery schedule. Had 2 pieces of toast for breakfast, and of course the ever present coffee. I am going to try to eat healthier this year. Although I don't think we do bad at it now.
I am headed for the shower, and then to church to take down all the Christmas decorations. Will take me about 3-4 hours. So I will check in about lunch time to see what all you energetic people have been doing.
G'Morning!
D'cat, best wishes for your MIL's surgery for the pacemaker.
Sarv, keeping a small batch of fav cookies usually foils the plan.
Molly and Jeremy just left to return the generator to her brother in Orlando. I have several "chores" to do, like putting up towel bars, shelving in my closet, dimmer switches, ceiling fan, and such other projects as I may find.
Plus, I should get some of the onion sets we bought planted in what will be the "kitchen garden" and transplant some of my plants from pots to the ground.
I also hope to get out and explore a little today!
I just heard a roll of thunder here....what's going on with this weather? It's still dark out too, and it's after 8 am, must be some dark clouds hanging over us. Going over to DIL's this morning to show her how to trim Max's claws. He's always been very good when I've done it, but she hasn't ever, so I'll have to give her a lesson. Her cats won't tolerate it at all!
Maybe they will get some of this rain out west and put out the fires, in 9kitty's mom's area. It's so scary when everything is so dry and the wind picks up.
DR, good luck with the sourdough, remember just because it stinks doesn't mean it's not good. It has a very pungent aroma when it starts "working", it's just the fermentation process. I love the bread but don't have the patience to mess with it anymore.
Darius, that almost sounds like a day off!! LOL When I went out yesterday to fill the water jugs for my inside plants (usually I have to high step through snow to do this) I noticed that my tulips on the south side of the garage in that sheltered corner have come up. They were buried under the foliage from last year's mums, so I guess they think it's spring. The next cold snap will freeze them solid. Which means no blooms on them in April or May. Foolish plants. Can't blame them for being confused, this weather has been so weird.
Chores calling me today, enough of this loafing ...need to pack up that puny little tree, run the vac, strip the bed, wash the scatter rugs in the laundry room, we're tracking in mud in January. Need to pay my dues for those days of loafing. I'm writing 2006 on my next half dozen checks ahead of time so I don't have to try to make a 5 into a 6 after I goof up. LOL
Dcat, it's torture for me too, I'm not a sports fan at all, mildly curious to see final results, but even that is limited to local teams. And football **all day** is like fingernails on a black board. Sounds like good progress for your MIL. Honestly, some of these oldsters are tougher than nails! We'll hope for continued good healing for her.
9Kitty, I'm all goofed up on the days too, can't keep them straight with the weekend etc. plus DH being home using up his vacation days. Did manage to avoid cooking all day yesterday, out for breakfast, leftover chinese for lunch, and frozen pizza for dinner! Then, yesterday his buddy brought over this huge ham, so I'll be making dinner for him tonight. He's going home with very large doggy bag, it will take us forever to eat that much ham, and I'm not that fond of it.
Have a fine day everyone, I'll check in later to see what else is going on.....
Good morning. So far it's a sleepy morning, hubby has the day off. No plans for today but if the weather is better than yesterday's turned out, I might get to take that walk.
Dcat, I'll pray for the pacemaker implant proceedure to go smoothly for your MIL. I understand that it is not a difficult procedure, but I wonder why they didn't do it when they had her in surgery before?? Probably didn't realize that she needed it at that point, but with repairs done and monitoring they see another problem.
Darius, you need to change the address on your DG identification box to read "at Molly's in Fla". It does sound like your days are productive and above all HAPPY, and that you are all eating very well.
My neighbor who is from the south always has blackeyed peas for New Years. Can't see that their luck is any better than mine. She calls it Hoppin John. It's something her people always did at New Years so she just continues the tradition.
I need to get the fire built, it's kinda chilly in here. Not spring yet outside. Darius planting bulbs and onions already, you go girl, plant some for me.
See you later, have a great day.
Thanks for the address reminder, Mary. : )
LOL perfect Darius. what a way to start the year. A new address.
Dcat, my mother just had a pacemaker put in a few months ago. Is working very well. The area around where they put it in takes awhile to heal tho and she won't be able to lift her arms above her head for a few weeks too. But seems to help her.
Plus she is on that blood thinner med. that has to be regulated each week until they get it right. She almost blacked out from the blood either being too thin or thick, can't remember. So it is very important to keep checking up on that.
M5, thanks for sourdough tips. I love breads so am looking forward to seeing if I get it to work. Your tulips coming up? Yeah, that is very weird for back in your cold area. Just put some more mulch over them and they will be fine.
Boy, Molly, you have a great crew working for you there, Darius & Jeremy. What a very lucky gal, I am jealous. LOL
Well, off to work today gals and guys.
Carol (DR)(the even one)
LOL DR - the double poster hits again!! you can edit it out I found...
Darius- you sound so happy now...I am keeping a doz or so of my favorite molasses cookies (in the freezer) as a treat to me. I think it is silly to completely give up everything you love - a sure failure for me! Life is to short to be deprived of the good things. I just plan on eating ONE now and then instead of 6 a day!
I did a good work out today - sweated like a hog. I should walk on the tread too - maybe I will - just start out slow....
I received a heat mat for Christmas and it sure isn't very hot.....is that usual? I do have a thermometer to put in the soil, but I'm starting bunch of small pots, so I'm not using it now. I'm making a list of all the growing requirements for all the seeds I'm starting - just love to do that!!
Weather is gloomy, cloudy, and rainy here AGAIN!! DH is even working outside fixing his truck. We'll probably have snow in May to make up for it tho!
Morning all,
Those OK fires are scary.
Texas is in trouble too - everything is so dry, and those really heavy freezes we had when the temp went down to 13 have left a lot of extra dead vegetation around. Then with now record highs plus wind its a recipe for disaster allright.
When DS and family came up for dinner last night there was a strong smell of smoke outside around here. It can't have been from OK City thats 200 miles away but something more local was definitely burning. Not a good start to the new year.
Glad to see Molly & Darius making progress and getting well fed! We started the New Year with a roast beef dinner, roast potatos and Yorkshire pudding - the works English Style!! LOL DS and family joined us having been to see the Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe with DGS. Now I have to clean the kitchen - the dishwasher is on its third run already.
DGD spent the afternoon with us while the others did the cinema. At two she is not into sitting still for that long - we went to the park and she scared us to death climbing things with all the big kids. They invited her to play and she was off - doing everything they did - I think I'm three shades whiter than I was!

Hey - promoting a craft idea here....check it out if you'd like!

Just pokin' in to say "HI" to everyone. I've got my nose in embroidery tutorials and when I can't concentrate any longer, I head off to the external Hard Drive where I'm trying to find all those designs I "archived" several years ago. (Yeah, I'm organized, alright! HA!!)
Our weather is "slick"...not really icy at the moment, but looks like it could become that way any time now. Sheila...we had a thunder boomer here a couple of hours ago. Sounded more like spring than January.
Here's a question for you guys...are we ready to make the daily a thread any of our regulars could start? I'm ready to pass the 'baton' on this marathon. There are just times when I have to force myself to remember to get the new "Tomorrow's Thread" posted. I could sure use some help here. ~grin~ (Darius, M5, Maria, Kelly, Sarv, MaryE ?? Any takers among y'all? You *could* take turns you know.)
Be back later...
~julie~
Well, there seems to be some work going on today. I have been to the church and taken down the Christmas decorations. Was interrupted by a phone call that DM had fallen and raced home to see what kind of damage was done. She had a nasty fall. Was getting a cup of coffee, and turned around to go to the table, got dizzy and fell backward, splitting the back of her head open by hitting the microwave stand. There was plenty of blood, but when I got it cleaned up, it had just kind of skinned her scalp. Head wounds always look worse than they are. She does have a headache, but didn't want to be taken to the hospital to be checked out. The famous last words-- I'm okay.
So after I sorted that out, came home and started balancing check books and paying bills. My personal check book is out of balance $40.00, and I can't find it anywhere. So I am resting my mind for awhile, and will take another look at it later.
Our weather is sunny and 67. Possible chance of thundershowers this afternoon. We had rain during the night sometime. The weather is strange for this time of year. Fires, floods, snow and ice. But not in the appropriate places. Since our summer last year was so dry, we need all the rain we can get.
Well, since I am not a football fan, and that seems to be the only thing on tv, I am heading for the den, and a good book for awhile.
Don't mean to ignore anybody, but a hearty hello to all that are here or may be lurking.
I'll be back later.
Sorry I didn't get here yesterday to wish everyone a proper Happy New Year. Stayed late at Sis's house and slept in until 10:00 on NYD. Went to Breakfast at a local diner and met up with some friends there. DH had worked on FIL's truck, so we took that back. Stopped at Wal-Mart on the way home and found out that they still had Christmas lights left at 75% off. We could never do lights on our house before, just wouldn't look right. Now that we put on a front porch, I think we could pull it off. So next year, look out. We got the lights for only $1.24 per strand!
I really hated coming back to work today. I was the only one in my house that didn't have off. I had a choice of using Friday or today, so I had taken friday to give me a whole week off.
Not good news regarding my friend whose DH has cancer. They put a stent in the esophagus to help him eat better, but it has been very painful and he has been running a fever of 100. They don't want to do chemo/radiation until he can gain some weight back. Of course, with the Holidays, their regular Dr. is on vacation. She extended her thanks to all those keeping DH in prayers.
It in the low 40's and starting to rain here. Could change to snow overnight and in a.m.
Gotta get back to work, will try to check in later. See ya!
Well, we have had an eventful afternoon. Tornados, two touch downs in the state. I didn't have any damage, but had a viscious storm, rain, wind and hail, thunder and lightening. We are under a severe storm watch until 9:00 tonight. All afternoon has been really dark. Took a short nap.
DMIL tolerated the procedure to implant the pace maker. DH just called and is on his way home. It has been a long day for him.
We have started the new year by having both mothers in some kind of health problem. Hope this isn't a sign of things to come.
Well, have to clean the kitchen, and am going back to my book.
bbl
Hi there,
I've read through the messages several times but not written anything today. Where is everyone? Watching football?
defoe, glad to hear good news re your MIL. Also on the tornado front. Sure is some weird weather out there. Am thinking of phoning a CA friend to see how they are surviving the flooding in that state.
Went to aquafit this am. Then home. Spent several hours working on end of year and end of month stats for FC. I thought I could wait and teach my successor or tell him how and let him play with dummy data. I decided to get it done. We've finished the year with slightly more that 24,000 - about 150 less than last year. I thought it would be higher but must have made an error when I did a query just before Christmas.
Party preparations are moving along. But unless I start getting regrets soon, this may be a HUGE party. Hope they don't all come at once. I generally feel safe in asking more than I can easily accommodate because the last minute rate of regrets because of weather or illness is generally pretty high, but I might get caught short this time.
That's all for now. I'm gonna go out and do a few errands.
Ann
Well, my ambitions were greater than my stamina today! I DID get shelving in my closet (that is now being my dresser for clothes), got some hooks up after going into the big town to get butterfly fasteners. (The interior walls are 1/8" panelling of some kind, nothing to hold a screw even with a plastic plug in the hole first.) Found a nifty "industrial" looking chrome kitchen organizer that's a pull-out wire basket and a shelf on top. Perfect size for my desk junk and my printer on top.
Spent more time than I wanted on putting together the ceiling fan and light fixture for my room. I hate those things, at least installing them!
Did one load of laundry and hung it outside... it dried quickly in the stiff winds we had today. Supposed to be 58º tonight and then down to 25º by Friday night. Brrrr is coming back! ... but maybe we can get the rest of the walls and the rafters up on the pump shed before then, and just throw some paint drop cloths over the top. But we may get lucky and find metal roofing at a better price bfore then!
Where is everybody?
Defoe - Glad to Hear MIL is doing well. Hope your DM is ok after her fall. Your weather sounds scary.
Darius - Sounds like things are really moving along well for you and Molly. Thank you for posting some pictures.
DH drilled a hole in his thumb tonight. Right through the nail. Not really deep, just alot of blood. Scares the bejeebers out of me when he does stuff like that.
I'll check back in a little while to see if anyone is still awake.
We had thunder boomers all afternoon. Finally stopped raining, and doesn't seem to cold so maybe it won't all ice up. Crazy weather. Wish it would rain where it's dry, and dry up where it's flooding. I could do with a little sunshine too, we've had about a solid week of gray skies. Maybe I'll do some sewing tomorrow and sit under that sunlight lamp I put in by the machine. It's not ultraviolet but it's supposed to emulate sunlight. I'm getting grumpy. Only 80+ days until spring.
DH goes back to work tomorrow, bet he'll be glad not to be around me. LOL
Ann, I can't imagine planning a party for that many people...I've done up to thirty, beyond that would paralyze me! You must be washing dishes constantly. You should get a big pat on the back for all that work!
Glad to hear the pacemaker implant went well. Dcat, your DH must be exhausted, and on top of that, your DM taking a fall. Let's hope that's the end of these kinds of adventures, so you can relax!
Okus, your dinner sounds delicious! You've made me hungry for a nice beef roast...we had that gigantic ham tonight, but I disected it before dinner, it would have taken way too long to bake. Managed to give myself a good poke with the french knife when I was cutting it up, too. Made the giver take a goodly portion home with him or we'll be eating ham until we oink. It is a very nice ham but .......good grief! I've got at least eight pounds in the freezer.
I get email reminders of what's coming up on Oprah, and today was supposed to be the author of the book I just finished, A Million Little Pieces, and guess what was on instead...........football. And more football. And there is still more football on now, competing with the reruns. Going back to reading....!
Darius, you've done a fantastic job so far. Mobile homes aren't known for having good walls for mounting anything, I wonder if those sticky things would work, you know, the kind you can pull off when you don't need them anymore. Forget what they are called.
Greetings and good night to every one, I'm ready to crash but better not or I'll be awake at 3!!
Well Darius, it looks like things are finally settling down for you guys. Those 1/8th inch wall panels could be a problem for hanging things on. Is that something Molly can replace with drywall in the future? Hope the weather holds till you can get the pump house insulated and closed.
Ouch Suzie, I bet that hurt! Hope his wound heals fast.
Got sawdust all over. Eyes, ears, nose and throat. The router throws everything from shavings to fine dust and its too wet to work outside. Couple extra showers can't hurt.
Hey, cool, Robert! Love the smell of sawdust. Miss it since my father doesn't do woodworking anymore.
Dcat, hope that fall isn't too bad. Geez, you and mothers are into it right now. The future will get better.
M5, that ham sounds good tho. Just put the bone in the freezer too with the meat and make some soup sometime. I love split pea soup!
Carol (DR)(the even one)
Hello again, I'm awake too, it's still early out here on the west coast. Actually I am not far from the Mountain Time zone line. We can see some mountains in Idaho from our place, less than 50 miles away just east of the Snake River.
Dcat, I'm glad that pacemaker implant proceedure went well, your husband should be able to relax a bit now, I emagine he is worn out from the emotional strain and the long hours.
Susieq, ouch on the husband's thumb.
We had a slow day here, neighbors stopped in to get their mail that we have been collecting for a few days while they were gone to California for a father's funeral. Then before they left another neighbor came with his calendar and books to compare notes with me on when I worked for him and when his cattle or sheep were in our pastures, and how much hay we got from him so he can settle up with me for the year before it all starts over again.
No rain today, sun was out and no wind so even through the temp was probably only about 40 at the most it never felt very cold. I worked out in my greenhouse for a while, got some buggy plants removed and hope I don't have too many aphids left. Poked mealy bugs with a toothpick and watered everything with fertilizer water which I try to do about the first of the month so I will remember when I did it. My big jade plant is loaded with blooms and if it weren't so huge and heavy I would move it back into the house so we can enjoy it. My husband carried it out there a year ago and it was kind of a challenge then. Now that the Christmas tree is down I have an empty table in the house that needs a plant. Tomorrow, if it is not too cold I will bring one in from the greenhouse.
My kitten is helping me type, I think I need to go play with her. We weighed her today on a little scale that I used to use when I sold strawberries, it weighs in pounds and ounces and is pretty accurate. She weighed 3 pounds and 12 ounces. When I had her at the vet's office she weighed 3 pounds even. That was about 11 days ago. I've been surprised at how much kitten chow she eats, a handfull at a feeding but 3 or 4 times a day, whenever the bowl is empty. She knew the sound of the catfood bag in just 2 days, smart kitty. Meezer, when is your new kitten coming home?
While thinking about ill mothers, I wanted to ask DR about your dad. Is he recouperating all right? Getting the use of the leg back? It is so sad to have to watch parents who seem healthy and young, decline into old and feeble. I am going to call DM's Dr. first thing in the morning, and see if I can take her in. The blood that was too thick last week may have played a part in her falling. She has been complaining of head aches and dizziness, so maybe the blood is too thick to circulate to her brain properly.
Meezer, make some ham salad. I just love it. The only thing, I want a home grown tomato to go with it, and you know how scarce they are.
Susieq, is DH alright? I hate accidents. I would rather be sick that have an accident. At least you know when you are sick, and can plan sedate activities until you feel better. I always have an accident when there are so many things I want to get done. Good buy on the lights.
VAnn, how many people are you expecting? I get a nervous stomach thinking of anything over 75. I can do that, but haven't had more than that. but hey if you can do that many, just add a little water to the pot, and you can feed 100. One of my mom's tricks.
Darius, sounds like everything is moving right along. I so envy people who can do carpentry, hang ceiling fans, etc. I guess that is why I need a DH. LOL. Molly mentioned something about a RU in Lake City in February. If you all could find out about date and such, maybe I could time my trip south to coinside with that. Hopefully by that time, things will have settled down.
Bal, what are you making now. I know it is something with wood, as you are using the router. I have looked at the time project in another forum. How many projects do you have going at one time. I am a single minded person, and have to start one and finish it before I can move on to something else.
I got a copper working craft book for Christmas, and have been looking at things to do as garden art.
Today was our 41st anniversary, which we spent apart, with respective DM's. Well, when all calms down, we will go out for a fine dinner. DH gave me a beautiful card, and a gardening magazine subscription. Suits me to a T.
Did some legal work for older sister, and called to tell her I was putting the papers in the mail. She then told me that she would pay me for my time by taking us out to Long Horn, which is a steak house. This when she had just paid a lawyer $2,000.00 to do something similar. Oh, well, I don't have the degree anyway. LOL, slave labor is what it is.
Well we have missed some people today, 101, where are you, and Ernie hasn't posted in awhile, wonder if entertaining for christmas got him down.
Well, I know it fairly early for me, but DH is getting up at 3:45 to get to the hospital for 5:30 visiting hour. So we are off to bed.
Sleep well everyone, see you in the morning.
suzieq2761 - ouch. Have DH take care of that thumb. Don't want him to get it infected. though if it bled a lot, I guess that's a good sign.
m5 - the best part of this party is it's all nibbly stuff and without the pressure of pre-Christmas. A few recipes of squares. The cookies from the pre-Christmas cookie exchange. Lots of cheese and crackers, some purchased hors d'oeuvres - Loblaws has President's choice ones which are good, some hummous, several shrimp rings, a couple of smoked salmon - cream cheese rolls, a bunch of 2" pizzas. I'm going to experiment with some philo pastry later in the week. Much of it was made or bought weeks ago and is resting in the freezer. Just wish the auxillary deep-freeze (screened porch) would co-operate. It's presently a serviceable refrigerator, but not reliable as a freezer. If it were, I'd have the base of my punch put together, but I don't want to keep it unfrozen till Saturday. I guess Thursday, will work.
The big trick is to keep everyone from standing right in front of my oven door in the kitchen. LOL (We've found that if everything to drink is in one room and food is in another, that people will move around a bit better.)
I think I'll sign off the computer for the evening.
Good night all.
Ann
defoe, I'm betting on around 100. Could be slightly more than that, but between weather and winter colds, there are usually several who don't make it at the last minute. Of course, if it's really crowded, people won't be able to get to the food ...
Dcat, thanks for asking. My father is doing much, much better. Is now walking without the cane most of the time. He is an amazing man.
Yes, take your DM to the doc. That could be why she fell. That is how my mother found out about more of her heart/circulation problems when she had that car accident due to blacking out. Now having the pacemaker and blood thinner, she is in more control of her body.
Mary, at least now we haven't had rain for a couple days. Finally, no more flooding for while I hope. That kitty sure must like to eat if she has gained almost a pound.
Carol (DR)(the even one)
