difference between replies and views

If you go to "threads john or jane doe has started", it shows number of replies and number of views. My question is, "What is a view in this situation?"

It used to be how many times someone has looked at your thread, but I don't think there is a counter going anymore so the number of views will not be right.

Yeah but it's kind of depressing to know 36 people looked and didn't have a word (or a nice word LOL) to say! ;)

The number of "views" was almost universally misinterpreted. A thread with 36 views might have been seen:

- once by 36 different people (which is what most assumed); or
- six times by six different people; or even
- 36 times by one person

Despite the fact you couldn't read much into it, I personally liked the "views" as simply an interesting tidbit of fairly useless information (I'm pretty good at Trivial Pursuit for the same reason ;o)

I liked the views in the PDB. It was nice to see what plants are of interest to all.
But sometimes the views in other threads, would attract you to a place you would not normally go to.

I liked it in the photos forum to see where the most interest was on certain subjects. I then didn't post in areas of no or little interest. It was a handy tool for me. I also agree with bootandall to find the interest in plants. Some plants have almost no interest, and many have a wide interest. I miss it.

Hmmm, with some of the things I post, I'd have to think if the same person looked 36 times, they had to keep erasing and starting over and finally decided not to say a thing. LOL

I miss the views... maybe not on the forums but on my page I would like to know that no one may have posted but at least they looked at it!

I agree with all of you who miss the views; I miss them too.
It was a very good way of knowing if there was an interest on the things one posted.
