Happy Anniversary, although I wasn't part of it then. I have so enjoyed the time I have been part of this. It is just like sitting around a big table, drinking coffee, and eating goodies and talking. I love to do that with 2 neighbors in real life, but look forward to checking in at DG coffee...and. I can't tell you how many times you all have "picked me up", caused me to laugh, made me cry, and just related your every day happenings. I have rejoiced in your triumphs, and mourned your losses. Prayed for you when you were sick, or prayed for family members who were sick or having troubles. You have given me a shoulder to cry on, and have "listened" to many gripes about situations and family members. I cannot begin to tell you how much I appreciate each and every one of you. I count you among my "good friends" and have loved your pets and their antics. Please Dear God, Don't ever take away my cyber buddies. I love you each and every one. Your problems are my problems, and your accomplishments are mine too. Just wanted to let you know how much I really enjoy each and every one.

Now I am really off to bed, Good night all, dear friends.

I sure wish I had been a member of DG last year when Julie decided to open up her table to all. I wish all a Happy Anniversary. I went back and read through part of the first thread. It was a pleasant surprise to see some of the names from that thread are still here,,,,,, seasoned veterans,,,LOL

I am so happy that Julie invited me to her table to join in the coffee and....with all of the terrific people that are here. I feel like I have made some wonderful friends.

Thank-You Julie for the invite, and to All for making me feel welcome.

Good Morning!! Happy birthday to old lady in black Kooger and Happy Anny to the rest of us!!

I'M OUTTA THE HOLE! Thanks to all the arms from here tugging...my visits during the holidays don't last long, they just are a yearly trip.

Gotta share a nice thing. Cranky DIL called at 1 (when they were supposed to be here) and during the conversation she blurted out "oh, I just LOVE you" Now that is the greatest gift I could have gotten from her (I do wish she'd tell DS that too tho!) We had a very nice day - delicious food, played funny games and best of all no tears from anyone (I did hear her snipping at DS a couple of times tho) We all breathed a sigh of relief when they left and the other DIL and I got out the scrapbooking stuff and did that for 6 hours. A grand ending to a grand day. And thanks for all your words of caring - and I again apologize that I shared all this grief on such a wonderful day. One of my goals for the year is to just 'shut up' about all the nasty stuff..

Oh, I received a seed starting matt/thermometer and a wireless raingauge..plus smelly, girly stuff!! Yahoo!

Today we have another party....just at our other son/DIL (who were here yesterday) It will be low key and we'll have fun - they're doing pea soup from the hambone they had leftover! DIL mother and friend are both deaf and we get together and play cards with them - a funny experience for sure!

I read thru yesterdays posts this morning - sounds like you all had a wonderful day and great times.

Our group has grown so big - what's the count now? Do we need to put more leaves in the table? I have a ton of leftovers - putting them out now- they're hitting the trash can tonight- so PIG OUT!!

DIL wanted me to go shopping with her today - NOT!!

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

Good morning every one

Thanking all of you for your good wishes, Christmas was not as lonely as I thought it might be but it was so much better then 2004 when I just lost my DH.

A happy birthday to Kooger, Okus and David, may you live many happy and healthy ones for many more years to come.

Thanks again, love all of you with posts that made me happy and sad but most of all I thank you for encouraging me to get a wonderful companion , my Samson, he is the joy of my daily life, here is oneof my favorite picture of him, his birthday is 11/25/04, yesterday he was one year and one month old

Happy birthday to Kooger and Dave. Happy belated birthday to Okus. Happy Boxing Day to all the Canadians and happy anniversasry tomorrow to all.

Boxing Day - the second day of Christmas in UK and Commonwealth countries. Used to be a real holiday. Now the stores are open just like in the US. And some opened as early as 7 am for those who want bargains. Me, I'll take my chances that something is left when I get out there.

We all survived Christmas, the turkey got done and everything else was good. DD#2 is staying with DD#1 but is in town for a few days. We will see them - no kids for lunch today. Her partner flies in tonight from his own family, but they go straight to a Senators hockey game. Tomorrow they are here for dinner. Other friends with whom we used to celebrate Christmas before our kids grew up and go married will be here for dinner on Wednesday. Then, it's full steam ahead on our annual open house party which could have 100 people.

Happy shopping to those of you who will hit the stores today. Hope the rest have a relaxed day.

Good Morning, it is a dark rainy dreary day here snow is pretty much gone. DH has parked on the couch and am unable to do much we have a very open home and the lights from the other areas 'bother' him. So I sit here in the almost dark with my DG family.

We had a nice day yesterday had our presents at 3:30 and I was so surprised to see what my son and DH could do with out prompting!! DSIL in FL. sent me the cutest one person set of dishes with fish, shells and coral type things on them for when I get really homesick for where she lives. She is the best and I miss her, even though we were not close when we all were in FL. Thank the Lord I have matured since those early marriage day. lol. Do you ever just cringe when you think back to those days and the stupid things you did, all in the name of 'youth', or me ignorance!

We had steak and trimmings for supper. DF was here and enjoyed his meal by being the last on done like usual. I can't believe it is almost time to give him his wake up call (or are you still with us), just too darn dark today. DD called from the Virgin Islands last night she was in a good mood and laughed and talked even got some smart remarks from her DH who we don't know well but seems nice. That call really made the day. Now please help me, my DF wants to go visit her and he has never traveled and is 81! I know he would not be happy with thier lifestyle habits 3 dogs about 7 cats and a home the size of our great room. He has always been fussy about animal hair. (still haven't figured out how he can stand to come her with 3 cats inside most of the time). Not even sure if he remembers telling me about wanting to go! Maybe I should just keep silent for now.

We had a great communion service during church yesterday many regulars missing but then the visitors made up the difference.

Sarv, so glad your out of the hole. Maria I knew you would have a good time, so glad you went. D'cat you day sounds wonderful I would love to see the live nativity. GG so glad youa re a part of the Coffee and... and to think I don't even drink coffe!

Julie, and all who keep this thread going...Happy Anniversary... and thank you thank you. All our other GOB's have a great day!

Good morning....I'm awake, I think....but more coffee will help! We all survived Christmas, one way or another, and it looks as though out families managed some very nice and thoughtful gifts! And Kelly's mom is happy because the Bears won, but Packer fans are wearing black along with Kooger.........Dh was watching the game with the sound muted while we were playing Clue and Cranium with DGS and DIL. DIL won. The rest of us just stumbled through it trying to keep the rules straight. It was Professor Plum in the Kitchen...uhhhh I forgot with what already....

Susan, thank you for sharing the "only for love", I sent that on to several people.

Ann, my ex's mother lived with us for several years, and caused a great deal tension, mostly about my kids, which she termed "heathens". Never lifted a finger, but spent most of her time complaining about one thing or another. She did manage to get up early every morning and go to church, which she apparently thought absolved her from ever performing any act of kindness for anyone. When my kids' friends said how lucky they were to have their grandma living with them, they just rolled their eyes. Eventually she went to live with one of her daughters, and wrought havoc there, too!
It might be healthier for your DD to put her up in one of those residence motels, as someone suggested!

DR had breakfast made by someone else! What a treat, and a lovely way to start the day. LOL about the chia pet...where do they live the rest of the year, we only see them at Christmas time... maybe they hibernate ?

Robert, I thought it was great that you were able to make such a generous donation to that poor family who was robbed. It must have been wonderful to actually have contact with the recipients, it would make it a double pleasure. So much that we donate gets distributed to people we never know, this was special.

Hello and welcome to Jan and Diane. Help us to eat up the leftovers, because tomorrow we are having an anniversary party, with all new food!! It will be like the pool party we had at Kooger's last spring, only with dry feet. And no bathing suits.

Okus, I have nearly a decade on you, so you're still a kid to me.

Dmcd, prime rib!! I should have known that earlier, I would have passed on the turkey and come to your house.

Funny story, last night we had the turkey roast, and I made mashed potatos....and used the packet of gravy that they pack with the roast, plus a jar of Heinz gravy to extend it a little. While we were eating, Amie passed the gravy boat to Alex, DGS, and I looked up and said "I thought you said you didn't like gravy," because he wouldn't have any at Thanksgiving. He said, "I only like YOUR gravy"....LOL... I didn't tell ! Can't be disillusioning the guy who thinks I am the best cook in the universe!!

Suzieq, that is the cutest little angel I've seen in a long time. I want her. I will trade one large hairy grandson for her. (Yeah, I knew you wouldn't.)

9kittymom, stay away from sharp objects!! They always say dull knives are more dangerous than sharp ones, but I guess you shot that theory down. GG had a great day with her loved ones, too so all in all, we managed to get through it.

Nice seed mat and rain gauge for Sarv, who thought she wouldn't have anything to open! Good job! DH got me the three volume set of Calvin and Hobbes, apparently every single thing Watterston ever drew. Weighs about 25 lbs. I couldn't imagine what was in that heavy box! And of course, the ergonomic keyboard which he gave me before Christmas. Other gifts were, lots of chocolate (to share with Sarv,) and lots of nice smelly girly stuff, and fun gifts. A good holiday all around.

All right, who's bringing what for the party? And do we have to dress up?

Here's a photo of DGS and DH playing chess, my son-in-law is standing to the right, observing....For Elaine: the one on the left with the bare spot on the back of his head is DH, (he won't let me call it a bald spot, ) DGS is the tallest of the three, and the heaviest. DIL says she is going to be the Kitchen Nazi after New Year's and they are both going to lose weight. SIL is in his usual pose, arms folded, standing to the side. DH won one game, and DGS the other.

Greetings to anyone I haven't mentioned by name....and have a restful day everyone!

Later, GOBs and GOBettes...I'm not going anywhere near a mall today but I need to clean up the kitchen and empty the freezer so I can find things.

Egads, have we been doing this for a whole year already? My days never seem complete when I cannot get here and chat. You ALL have really become my "family".

Speaking of "family" I seem to have survived this visit to my half-sister's. I cannot say it was pleasant but it wasn't ugly either.

Need to start packing up stuff I want to take to Molly's, stuff my sis brought here when she visited me over THanksgiving.

I'll be back later.

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Good Morning everyone. I have been up for ages, drank tons of coffee, thoroughly read the paper, have fixed sausage and biscuits, waiting for DGD and DH to haul themselves out of bed. Mr. B had an early morning urge to lift his leg, so that's what got me up. Had thought of going back under cover, but decided to enjoy the quiet time. With DGD here, I know that her best friend will be here to play, so it won't stay quiet long.

On the Anniversary party. Let's make it a pajama party, we have all dressed up to go to the holiday functions, shopping, church, etc. so let's just stay in our choice of pajamas, robes gowns etc. and celebrate it that way!!

I have thoroughly enjoyed reading about everybody's holiday festivities. Seems like the majority had a good time. Sarv, I am so glad that you are out of the hole, and back on top of things. Maria, just loved the pic of Samson. Now that he has passed the 1 year mark, maybe he will begin to act like a mature male. Ooh, that's a scary thought, if you compare humans to animals!!

Well, I think I hear rumblings coming from down the hallway, so I will finish making breakfast, and pick up the messy house, run the dishwasher, and other miscellaneous chores. I will be back later, to take a break and see what you have been up to.

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Darius, when are you leaving to go to Molly's? Glad you had a truce for the holidays, but glad also that you are escaping before another tantrum. Let us know your plans.

Starkville, MS

So far, all has been wonderful here. We had a quiet Christmas Day with my Mom joining us for dinner and a relaxed visit. She is such a delight and a treasured best friend. Now the noisy part will start. DH has family coming out today to visit and let the young uns blow off some energy. Then tomorrow, my family starts arriving for a *big* gathering on Wed. Should be a fun few days, then back to the peace and quiet we are used to. New Year's day will see us gearing up for all the new projects I have thought up and planning all the gardening ideas that need tweaking before actually putting shovel to dirt. I didn't particularly look forward to Jan & Feb in the past, but now I find it a wonderful time to putter along on craft projects and garden planning, and in general, just enjoying time with DH and the furry kids before good weather lets me go crazy outside. Plus our present to "us" was a DVD recorder and subscription to netflicks, so a little movie watching and transfering our VHS movies to CDs will liven up the long winter evenings while we pick out 20 pounds of pecans for next year's baking!.

It sounds like most of us ended up having a great Christmas after all the pressure of getting ready. Now the crazy part is pretty much over and we have time to sit back and reflect on all the good things in our lives. May the true Spirit of Christmas continue to shine on us all, now and all through the coming year. The coffee and... anniversay party should be a great recounting of all the good things we have recieved from each other and from life in general over the past year. As we continue to have birthdays, joys and sorrows, it is so comforting to know that our DG family is there for us to lean on. Remember - joy shared is multiplied, sorrow shared is divided.

God bless
ginni

D'cat (Bonnie), I will leave here by mid-day if not sooner. It looks like a few of my plants that are here will survive in Molly's zone so I'll take some of them, like the holiday cactus and the Black Magic elephant ears.

A cousin in Colorado will be coming in January to see her mother (my mother's baby sister) in Miami and I haven't seen either of them in years so I'll be back here to Kissimmee and my sis, the kid and I will make a 2-3 day trip to Miami to see them and other cousins.

My mother's only other surviving sibling (Aunt Marion who is 92+) fell before Christmas and is in the hospital near Molly's (nothing broken, just in pain). I suspect she'll not come home but have to go to a nursing home unless she can navigate her walker again. I'm glad she's close enough that I can easily visit.

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

Good Morning, everyone...HAPPY BIRTHDAY to KOOGER (I'm pretty sure I'm right on that one. hehehe)

I'm not sticking around to write this morning...have a few things on my proverbial "plate" that need attention.

BUT...I want to share this with you...I call it my "Christmas Angel" (cuz that's her name. ;-))

Darius - you are leaving where in mid May.? You are the most traveling gal I've known! What an adventurous life you live and I love hearing about it! I couldn't love long with my sis either- we are wonderful friends - 5 hrs away. I love for her to visit, but a week is all I can stand. I just remembered she wanted to come up for New Years and I am not sure I am up to entertaining her husband and her. He is very antsy and can't sit still for long etc.

Tg - hang on tight - your partying is yet to come!!! It will be great fun, but even better when it is over and you can put up your feet and relax...and think about all the fun you DID have! I sometimes think memories are better than the real thing! Is that why old folks live in the past??

Maria - what would you do without Samson...aren't pets just the best thing - always a tail waggin and love in their eyes. My kitty is on the floor looking at me (just waiting to give the chair a good scratching I fear!) Yesterday during the festivities, she came upstairs and laid down in the midst of us on her back as if to say 'scratch me' - peered under all the wrappings and chased a bow around. They have such simple needs.

I was going thru the pkging from Parks (seed mat etc) and they included a daylily and 4 packs of seeds! Whopee!

Defoe-for the anny party, I've wearing sweats with no upper unders - need to be comfy for all the chatting and muching we'll be doing! This past year has really been something with all you guys/gals. Speaking of guys - where are they???

M5- I could never have my MIL live with us and I seriously doubt whether I would make it with my mom either - even tho I love her to death! I have already told my kids that even if I beg, I do not want to live with them. We have a local old folks home here that is delightful. But I'll stay in my house as long as able...hopefully another 30 yrs~ The gals from work that I hang with have all decided we all want to be in the same old folks home together. Sounds like a plan to me!

Joy - tell DH to go back to bed and turn on a light!! I think everyone regrets the stupid/thoughtless things they did in younger years. That's why, to this day, I try bite my tongue instead of speaking my mind. Words spoken are hard to take take and hurt feelings sometime never recover. My tongue is full of scars tho LOL LOL

Well, it's after ten and I am still in my pj's. DH went out to the barn to burn trash, dishes are in the dishwasher and house is generally picked up. DS wanted me to bring a cream puff dessert to his house, but I don't have all the ingredients and am not going out to the store- he's getting all my left over cookies on a pretty platter. Everyone is sweeted out - who needs another dessert - not me!!

Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)

Good morning and happy day after Christmas.

We had a nice day, hubby took me out to breakfast after I got the horses fed (yes, I love hearing them munch their hay and enjoy watching them pick up tiny tasty morsels with those big lips and wiggly noses), and then I packed a couple more gift baskets of homemade goodies for the neighbors, wrapped a couple of last minute gifts for son and daughter in law and her daughter while my hubby watched football. After the ham was in the oven my daughter in law and I went to deliver gift baskets to the neighbors who had been gone visiting their relatives when I delivered the first round a couple of days ago. Had chores (animals to feed and water) to do again just as it was getting dark, then inside to get the rest of dinner together. Daughter in law's daughter had to work until 5pm (waitress, she said the restaurant was very busy so I guess she made good tips for Christmas, something she needs because she just recently bought a car). We had ham for dinner so there will be ham sandwiches for lunch today, ham something for dinner tonight and probably pea soup for tomorrow.

I got some nice thoughtful gifts for Christmas, and the gifts we gave to our son and daughter in law seemed to be just right. My daughter in law is in college, taking nursing, and so I had picked out a nice sweater for her. It's light blue with a turtle neck and long sleeves, and has patches of different cable knits and other interesting shell stitches on the front. She's a knitter so I thought she would like it especially because of the interesting stitches, and she can wear it for classes this winter. My husband picked out a radio controlled monster wheeled jeep for our son which was a big hit with everyone but the dog and kitten. When I saw it I asked my husband if that was a good gift for a grown up son and he said he would like to have one himself. He was right, the son was tickled with it. Boys never outgrow their love for toys it seems. I can emagine that he tested it out again on their dogs and cats when he got home. We got the daughter a Starbucks gift card, she loves lattes. After they went home I sat down to read a while with the kitten on my lap and fell asleep.

Darius, I hope that next Christmas you can enjoy the day, not just endure it.

All the rest of you seemed to have a good day and I'm thankful for that because some of these situations didn't look good a couple of days ago.

Yes, I think we do need another leaf or two in the kitchen table, and maybe Julie's house needs an addition to accomodate our ever growing "family". Good idea on the pajama party, I can wear my new sheep shirt (with sheep all over it) and my new snuggly bathrobe.

I was a couple of very cute grandchildren this morning while reading here. Julie, do those ornaments have the bubbles that keep going up? I remember something like that from my long ago childhood.

Happy birthday Kooger, have fun with the 50 thing. That doesn't seem old, believe me, when I'm looking back it it from a decade plus a few.

Got to go, it's later than I thought. Hello to those I missed, and I will do a better job of reading all the posts from the past two days a bit later. Have a great day everyone.

(Zone 8b)

Happy Birthday Kooger!!!
Happy Anniversary GOBs and GOBettes!!!
DS and family are coming here this afternoon for "Boxing Day" tea. We are having the Trimmings from a Turkey dinner without the Turkey! Thats the stuff everyone likes best anyway. Devils on Horse Back, Stuffing Balls w. Sausage Meat, Cranberry Sauce, Roast Potatoes, Roast Parsnip, Yorkshire Pudding and Madiera Gravy followed by Christmas Pudding with brandy Butter and English Custard, so we are going to be busy!
Back for the party later
Carol
The Odd One

Morning all
Happy birthday to the group! Also ... a great big happy birthday to Kooger. When you were growing up, did you get cheated having your B day so close to Christmas?
The DH has today off, so we slept in and have been relaxing over coffee and generally just been lazy this morning. It feels good after the rush of Christmas. Talked to my family last night ... so the day was complete. So glad to know everyone had a good Christmas with only minor scrapes along the way. I'll check in later if I get the chance.
Hugs all way round. ... elaine

Albany, OR(Zone 8a)

Happy Birthday Kooger!!! Never thought of wearing black on my birthday a few weeks ago, darn! Great idea!!!

Sure sounds like everyone had a good day yesterday. No major problems! Good!

Elaine, you ask about being cheated on birtdays in Dec. Well, my opinion since mine is at the beginning of the month is that it was a better deal as a kid. I would get a bigger present since my parents would combine the 2 together.

Sarv, that heating mat sounds great. You had mention looking for potting soil sales. I bet the stores will be bringing that on soon. Now you are getting me excited for the springtime growng. Thanks.

M5, love the picture of your family. Good looking guys!

Maria, always love to see picture of Samson!

Darius, just keep plugging away at life between all your friends and family. It give you lots to look forward to.

Julie!!! Just love your "Christmas Angel"! I had those bubble ornaments when I was a kid too. My parents gave them to me when I moved out but now they are kuput. But a couple years ago at Target, I saw some more so I bought them. They aren't the same but still brings back memories.

Mary, love to hear the details on the knit sweater. It sounds very nice. I bet she enjoyed looking at the stitches to figure it out.

Carol (odd one), your day sounds great with all that food.

Well, my day yesterday was good and bad. The good first.
In the afternoon, I went over to my neighbor to help celebrate their Christmas with their young kids. Ate a lot and enjoyed. Then later in the evening, went over to the younger son's girlfriends house and had a big Christmas dinner that she had helped cooked since her mom was working. Enjoyed prime rib there. I had taken some blueberry muffins to both get togethers and everyone enjoyed them so much that I had to write down the recipe right there. So all in all, the day was great.

Now for my bad part.
I want to know the answer to this question tho. Darius, may know,
I was opening up my bedroom window to see what kind of day it was when I got up. On my back lawn, there was the plastic cover and some of the metal shelves from the small greenhouse that I had just put up last weekend. All the pieces were all over.
I was so so so so upset!!!! I was in shock!!!
I got dressed and went outside and looked around. At first I thought someone had done a prank because several of the ceramic pots had landed on the ground in perfect ways. So I ran over to my neighbor and asked if it had been windy the nite before. Since I don't hear well. They said a bit, I guess.
Well, then I got on the computer and looked up the weather for around here. It showed the past 24 hours weather pattern. And it says it had gotten up 11 mph at around 2 am.
So.....
it is possible that 11 mph wind pick up this greenhouse and take it like 20' back and to the right???? It is only a 4' x 6' one but......?????
I thought I could use duct tape to repair but found that too many of the plastic connector pieces are broken up and wouldn't hold the metal poles.
I am just so upset because I had saved money for it from when my parents had given me when I had taken care of dad when he had that stroke. Was looking forward to this coming week of maybe starting some seeds!!!!!
So let me know if you guys have any ideas on how it was possible.

Don't mean to be so depressed sounding but... It was a shock to see after all my work that Sunday!

Well, maybe off to shop and try to find some connectors to repair.
Later, Carol (DR)(the even one)

how sad, DR, wonder if a gust of wind caught in that corner?
I remember I wanted an exhaust element in a corner so it would not be in front of the hause but inspector would not allow it because of that very same reason

Bartlesville, OK(Zone 6a)

Oh Carol!! I feel so bad for you. You wouldn't think a wind that low would do that. But surely noone would intentionally do something like that either. I hope you can fix it.

Bless your heart!

Marysville, WA(Zone 7a)

Good morning all. Nice to hear so many had such good (or tolerable) Christmases. My new fur lined slippers are comfy. How nice it is to have warm feet again. Wrappings, boxes etc are all picked up and the house is at it's "normal" state of repair. DW's shower sprung a leak that bulged the paint out where the pipe comes out of the wall. Nice little bubble that spewed water when I popped it. Luckily all I had to do was replace the chrome bend and put the shower head back on. Always something to fix. Since we didn't have Christmas Eve or Day at our house there aren't any leftovers, except part of that pumpkin crunch, which I hope you will try.
Julie, that photo is wonderful. It really captures the sense of wonder and innocence children possess.
Sarv, glad the day went well. Nice that 'cranky DIL' woke up.
Maria, happy that you and Samson had a nice Christmas. Sounds like you enjoyed it a lot.
Ann, an open house party for 100 people ? Wow. That could put a big strain on the dish washer. Tell us more.
Joy, maybe DF will forget about the Virgin Islands shortly. Doesn't sound like his cup of tea does it ?
Meezer, funny about the ex MIL and her morning trips for absolution. Do you think it was for things done, or things planned ? I 'betcha the Calvin & Hobbes will keep you out of trouble for awhile.
Defoe, sausage and biscuits, sounds great. All I had this morning was coffee and cold cereal, sniff sniff.
Ginnie, thanks for the 'joy and sorrow sharing' quote. Sometimes it is hard to remember.
Mary, so often you talk about your 'chores', feeding the horses, breaking ice so they can drink, and all the other farm type activities. It makes a "feel-good" time when I read about them. Animals are a lot of work, but they give so much in return. Pea soup and ham, one of the worlds best!
Okus, now that's a feast ! "Stuffing balls w. sausage meat" sounds interesting, can you tell how to make them? Yorkshire pudding with Madeira gravy and that tasty dessert. Wish Texas wasn't so far away.
Darius, Chin up kid ! tomorrows another day and full of promise.
Hope everyone has time to wind down and prepare for a brand new year.

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

meant to add one more about winds, we had about 20 miles per hour winds a few years ago, I heard this tremendous crash, thought a tree came down but it was our heavy gas grill, it landed about 15 feet away from the corner that was stationed behind the house, just another whirly wind was to blame

Marysville, WA(Zone 7a)

Carol, so sorry to see your greenhouse in ruins. If the greenhouse wasn't securely anchored it is quite possible that the wind could move it. The weather report may have recorded 11-mph, but it is likely there were higher gusts in some areas. I hope you are able to repair it.

Hi All,

I'm trying to get some stuff done on my day off so I'm not going to take time to comment on each post,,,but did want to stop in and say hi. There are some of Gran's cookies left on the counter if anyone wants to help themselves. Please help yourself,,,,I don't think I am going to wait for Jan. 2nd to revise my eating,,,,I still feel like a whale. Tomorrow it'll be the grocery store run for all those fresh veggies.

Sounds like everyone is doing well today and getting over the Christmas excitement. Glad to hear it.

Well, back to work,,,will try to check in later, Happy Anniversary!

Kelly

edited to add,

Just popped in for a quick 'sit down' before I head outside to spread the pine straw around things that won't like the warm weather we're about to have for the next 8 days followed immediately by (I'm sure) sub zero temps. So I better get them a nice blanket to keep them COLD! hehehe

Carol (DR)...don't be too upset just yet. You might be able to find some PVC corners at the hardware store that will fix that GH frame. (I'd have been in shock, too!) If you can't find corners that fit exactly, you may need to use a drill and some self-tapping screws to hold it together. I think next time you get the GH upright, you might need to use some 'tie-downs' to keep it from catching the wind that way.
(Oh...and thank you for the compliment on my "Angel". I just loved that shot and was lucky to get it. She moves around a LOT! LOL)

I was reading through this thread...and thought I'd try to comment on each one...but I think I'm going to do something different this time, I'm going to read throughy slowly, with my 'Notes' window open and I'm going to do it when I know the phone won't be ringing, and the oldest DGD won't be popping in to 'talk' and DH won't be...well, you get the picture. "Later" will have to suffice for now.

DR - how stinky your shelves/greenhouse went a flying. I bet it was just a major gust that caught it - do ya think you can fix it? I have a small one too and DH anchored it in the ground, but I still worry when the winds pick up. If I leave the door open, panels always blow off...

oops, DS just stopped over- gotta go for now!

Hi everyone!
WOW, some of you energizer bunnies are still visiting and having dinners and parties! I got up, fed the horses, had coffee, read a little, went back to bed and JUST got up from a nice nap.

It's foggy and dreary looking here, which I might add is fine napping weather.

The teenagers are still sleeping (and it is 1 pm, we're not in some other time zone) Oh well, it's vacation.

DR ~ sorry about your green house. I bet you could get replacement connectors from the company if too many are broken! Hopefully it won't be so much work to get it back together. Maybe you need to stake it into place? i have two of the smaller shelf size ones that stay outside and I've never had a problem.

robert ~ not sure what to make of "normal state of repair"? LOL around here that's not always too great!!

sarv~ SO GLAD you're out of the hole! Glad you got some pleasant words from DIL! and presents!!

Maria~ I'm glad you were able to have a happy time too. Of course it's hard, but good to hear you had some peace and joy

Ann~ Happy Boxing Day! Party on!! you really are the energizer bunny!!

joy~ we've got the same dreary weather here...no wonder you'd miss FL

m5~ thanks for posting the gravy recipe LOL!! Too cute!!

darius~glad you're getting on with it and hope everything is looking up

ginni~ personally can't imagine more partying, but I agree with the finding plenty to do for Jan and Feb. and yes we can start imagining the gardens....even up here!!

MaryE~ I enjoy going along on your horse chores too! And yes, those noses are something else. I thought a long time ago they were the perfect substitute for fuzzy baby heads! And are they ever agile!! My mare can open about anything with those lips!! And how about when they stretch them out like an anteater to get a single grain that's just out or reach? Comical!

dcat and okus~ you guys are feasting! I'm hoping to get back into salad mode...

Good day everyone, and enjoy the pj party!!

Thanks all for the birthday wishes! I love them all! And I got up at 5 am to dye my hair black. Funny thing tho, it turned royal purple instead. What a hoot! I woke DH to kiss him goodbye at 6 and said, well, my hair's not black, and he gave an approving grunt, I replied with, actually it's purple and I got a really different sort of grunt as I giggled and left the room!!! LOL! I really hate to show off my fat, but the purple just has to be shared so a the proof is down below!

My nails are a shiny black and I wore DS's Roman tunic from the fall play. It almost reached to my ankles!! What a site! Everytime the supervisor walked by she shook her head and laughed. I was happy, that's what the purpose was, to give everyone some fun, me included. And it was so slow on the phones, I only worked from 7 am to 9:20 instead of 1 pm. I took the time off cuz of the birthday, but really messed up the rest of the family's sneaky plans. Called DH right away and he said, u can't get off early and quickly added, oh that's fine -- so guess I have to wait till tonight to find out what they're up to.

Elaine - nice of u to commiserate about having a birthday right after Christmas. But, I'll tell u the truth, it was no problem at all, and really my oldest brother had that much more, being born on Dec. 3rd. I loved having my birthday on Boxing Day, it was always a holiday and all the young people from church went skating or tobogganing! My parents were Dutch immigrants so we celebrated Sinterklaas on Dec. 5th with gifts and the 25th was reserved for celebrating Christ's birth only. Church, followed by a big family dinner and playing games all afternoon. Those days are very special memories........

Enjoyed reading everyone's Christmas day activities.... sarv, throw enough dirt in that hole and fill it up, plant some flowers on top, so u never had to enter it again. :)

Happy B-Day, Kooger and you to Okus, but a little late I know. Also have to put Dave in here for the celebrations. AND Happy Anniversary to all my family.

Read all the post and it sounds it was an interesting day for all. I was busier than a one-armed paper hanger and am exhausted today.

Heading for Rochester in the am for 5 days to be with my boys, grandkids and dad. Will check in if they give me a moment's peace.

Love to all

Hap

Hap, say "Hi" to Fairport for me.

Limited time now, must go make dinner. no turkey leftovers here - they are all at DD's house. More about the Open-house later. It's not until January 7.

Also, more about DD's MIL later.

Carol, sure hope you can find a way to repair the greenhouse. What a disappointment to see it like that.

Bye for now.

Ann

Kooger!! I *LOVE* that hair color!!! (Just a wait a few more years and that will be you *natural* color...heheheh You know the "Blue Hairs". LOL)

Gotta tell ya, I went back and read just the first few posts in that original invitation. First I got teary-eyed...then it dawned on me. I haven't been THAT bored or able to sit at the table SINCE then. ROTFLOL

I also realized that I've been so 'uptight' and/or busy when I started each Daily, that I rarely "bother" with the invitation for others to join us. My how the span of one year changes things in people's lives.

Before we hit the official 'One Year' mark tomorrow...there's one thing that I need to say concerning all the people who "bop" in and out of here. Do any of you realize how many times that Black Hole has opened up and threatened to swallow one of our people...and just how fast all of you have grabbed a shovel and helped fill it up so others couldn't trip and fall in?

I think out of all the things (good, bad, and ugly) that have traveled through and come in & out of this kitchen...your loving arms, willing (and praying) hands, and sensitive sprits are what I've come to see and love in each one of you.

Uh oh...DH's in the kitchen making a cobbler out of yesterday's left over baked apples and pears. Think I'd better go see what's happening in the "other" kitchen.

Be back later...

Yeah, that true 'blue' thing, yikes!

Forgot earlier - let's pass on the pool party this spring - at least in MY basement! Someone else's turn to have it -- actually, I'd rather no one has a flooded basement this spring. What was it? four or five times we had it last spring? Shudder! shudder! I'm a-worrying, the sump pump is already running since we had two days in the 40s last week and most of our snow is gone.

Carol, so sorry about the greenhouse, what a disappointment! I also hope u can find an easy or cheap way to repair it.

Hap, have a wonderful time with family.

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

That first thread was very interesting to read, I wonder what happened to Escioangle , longbr and scenario ????? Does anyone know? I t would be wondeful if all the first gardeners on this thread helped celebrating this anniversary

Gosh, it's already late and I've only been able to scan over the day a minute. Sounds as though everyone is doing okay, though. Carol, I was so sorry to hear about your greenhouse. Can't imagine how you must have felt when you got up to see it in shambles this a.m. I know I'd have been heart sick, also. sure hope you're able to get the parts to get it repaired.
Kooger, that hair sounds *wild*! LOL Sounds like my kind of luck, though. Toooo funny. Good you could just laugh and go on. Know you got some funny looks today.
Wish I had time to speak to everyone ... but I'm exhausted. The DH and I had a wonderful day just bummin around. Went all over the place shopping and just enjoying the day. He took me out for lunch and we didn't get home until around 8:00 tonight. I'm blessed with one of those guys who enjoys shopping and looking around.
Well, hope everyone sleeps as good as I'm planning to. LOL
Hugs and nightnight ... Elaine
