D-mail/Forum Notifications

Wesley Chapel, FL(Zone 9a)

Dave,

I'm not always being notified when somebody sends me D-mail, or responds in a forum that I posted. Is there a switch somewhere I need to turn on?

Sometimes I'm notified, sometimes I'm not.

Steve

It's most likely that you are viewing an old cached copy of the homepage. If there are new dmails or threads, then they'll show up on the home page. (Click on Home in the menu above).

Holding the shift key while clicking on Refresh will cause the page to reload for certain. You can look at the clock on the upper right hand of the page to make sure that you are viewing the newest page.

Hi Dave,

I didn't expect you to be working on Christmas, but since you are you might as well check this one out: http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/560064/#new

Happy Holidays.

My guess is Dave popped in for a few minutes (as did I) to make sure there weren't any urgent technical problems that needed immediate attention - but I wouldn't go so far as to say either of us is "working" today. While I'm here, I'll add my hopes that everyone is enjoying a day of peace and rest, wherever you are.

I would also recommend to refresh your screen and compare the DG time with your computer clock. I have noticed that sometimes when you are in a forum and a new post comes in that forum it is not registered as new, but will show up in forums you are watching.
Happy Holidays to all the DG crew - thanks for all you do!

I don't think I'm viewing an old cached copy - this happens when I first log on. I can look at my D-mail and find replies to mail I've sent, and I never got notification that I had mail.

I think we need a recording of Dave's voice that says "You've got D-mail", in the style of that ISP that we all know.

Steve, if your browser isn't set up to update each time you view a page, then it may still be a problem with your browser, even when you first log in.

Another possible explanation - especially for the dmails - is that you don't have your "Home" page set to display dmail alerts. To review/change your preferences:

1) Click on "My Info"
2) Select "Manage your preferences"
3) Click on "Customize Home Page" in the left-hand column
4) Look in the "Module" column for "Personal Mail" and see if it's set to display somewhere on your "Home" page or if it's set to a disabled status.

If it is set to show up in a particular column and position, then be sure you're hitting your "Home" tab and not your "Forums" tab (dmail alerts won't display on your "Forums" page.)

Thanks, Terry. I'll check that setting.
