Time to upload pics?

Lakemont, GA(Zone 8a)

Since I am new to all this, I don't know what normal load time is. I was wondering how long it takes y'all to upload a pic. I am on DSL and it takes a little over a minute per pic.

Wow, I am also on DSL and a little over a minute per pic seems like a long time to me. How big are the pics you are loading? I usually try to keep mine to 100 - 170 KB and they are in JPG format. It usually only takes a few seconds for a pic to load.

How long for dial-up?

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

When I upload pictures from home, on dial up, it seems like it takes between 30 seconds and a minute.

I am so clueless when it comes to this sort of thing. Digital cameras, and computers are Greek to me- LOL!

Don't laugh, but I have no idea what size the pics are- nor how to find out.

Augusta, GA(Zone 8a)

Most of mine will run around 500 Kb and only take a few seconds to load on Bell South DSL. Of course there are times when it takes a couple of minutes to upload a two word message to a forum. I never try to upload a picture when the system is obviously slow.

berry girl,

You can often right click on pictures in many files and then click on properties. This may tell you the bytes of the picture.

How do you downsize pictures for faster loading????

Lakemont, GA(Zone 8a)

Thanks Indy. I'll try it.

I don't know the answer to that one either.

Boy I feel really dumb these days! I TOLD you all I am not good at this techy stuff- LOL!

You need some type of photo editing software to scale down a photo. This can be accomplished by reducing its size and/or reducing the quality of the image. You'll probably find more camera- and software-specific help in the Camera Talk forum ;o)

Terry,
Thanks! I've got the software that came with the camera plus I installed Picasa. There is just sooo much to learn.

And I have been in the camera and photos forums bugging those poor folks too- LOL!

berrygirl...use your camera software to upload the pics from your camera to your computer. Then, use "Irfanview" to view (and work with) your pics. Irfanview is a free download and VERY easy to use; download it here:
http://irfanview.com/

I'm on dial-up and it takes about 20-30 seconds to load a pic to DG that is sized 640 X 480....(Irfanview will reduce your pics to that size with one click!)

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

Horseshoe! I use irfanview too. I love it.

And while I have you on the phone....remember when we were all about the musical note?? Would you mind d-mailing me (so as not to take up this fine thread) how to do it all over again? This time I promise I'll write it down.
