Coffee and...For Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2005
Good night, Julie, lol
Did I ever tell y'all that our table is the first thread I visit on DG every morning...and that last one every night? Guess Why? :-) (It's cuz I love ya!)
Good night ladies! (And if the gents should stop by after I go to bed...someone tell them 'Night' for me.)
~julie~
Elaine...I was wondering if I'd stepped on a toe with my giddiness. But I didn't really think I had. (((~hugs~)))
I forgot to add this link for u all to see the new addition............

Good morning,
I'm still here, but keeping rather quiet. We got the tree decorated last night. Yippee!
Now I need to sit down and start making lists of what I still need to buy - both gifts and food. We have a double-barrelled holiday - Christmas and Boxing Day. Some grocery stores might be open on the latter, but with long line-ups. And with Christmas on a Sunday, there may be some closed even longer.
But first, work beckons. Was VERY busy at the FC on Monday - over 260 and since i couldn't be there - had to play the concert, I spent a large part of yesterday dealing with those files. We are open again today. Tomorrow closed, but we have a moving van of food coming in. It will have picked up food from 12 schools. So while Thursday is normally a day off, not tomorrow.
Hope you all have a good day.
Ann
WoW, I'm first for the new day. DH and I went shopping yesterday after I thought I was done. Got my food processor from my dad a Hamilton Beach 14 cup thing. Not sure why I got such a big one but will probably have to start canning again to justify it. lol I really wanted one to do pie crusts and things that these old arms can't stir anymore.
DH got a drill doctor with a knife sharpener, now maybe, I will have sharp knives.
This Penny's didn't have the nativity snow globe that I wanted!!!! Not sure if I will go back to the other store. We ate at TGIF and had a great time and a wonderful meal. DH even walked around Michaels Crafts and we bought more decorations a 50% off. No snits no grumbles, wish we both could be like that more often.
Not sure what is on the plate today, he works for the local sheriffs dept. and this is his weekend, he will be working both the holidays but that is OK we are used to it and it is double time and a half!! Kids used to tease their friends and cousins that "your already bored with your gifts and we haven't even opend ours yet". So glad that they had that attitude.
Enjoy the day......Joy
edited to say...........Ann you beat me !!

Up and made a batch of puppy chow already. Gonna be a baking day today!! Next are hanky pankies, then some different cookies.
I got up and looked in the mirror and my hair is sticking straight up and out - I look like I stuck my finger in a socket. I thrash so much at night - never can get comfortable. My nighties end up all twisted and almost cut me in two sometimes!! (tried sleeping ala nude and couldn't stand that!! LOL) Where is GG?? I need her services (I'll pass on the wild colors tho)
Weather is freezing rain for the holidays now. I won't get in a snit because the forecasting here is very unreliable!!
Back to the stove.
Good Morning GOBs! Couple of early birds already here and running at full speed! Someone (brain freeze) suggested we can the individual greetings until after new years and that might be a good idea, except for the fact that we can't shut up. LOL I think we can leave it up each person to decide and not be offended if we aren't addressed by name. I always assume I'm speaking to everyone, and often comment about a subject without mentioning a name so I'm good either way. Zoot yerself, as my Dad always said.
Off to Beloit at some point today, time undetermined as yet, seller is battling the laundry monster so trying to make it convenient for her. I need to pay some bills this morning and dive into the paper mess and file some things properly so I can see the top of my desk.
Social Security just hiked my Medicare premium up $30 but also gave me a little increase which will cover it. Don't know what the cost of living increase will be on my pension from work but I know it will be more than my last two annual raises when I was on the job.
There's gooey chocolate fudge cake on the counter, grab a cuppa and help yourselves, I'm booking outa here!!
Puppy chow done, hanky pankies done (just finished sampling 2 of them!!) Hmmm, wonder what will be next. Christmas cookies that need to be rolled out or molasses (I know they don't sound Christmasy, but DS wants them). Just remembered I need to dash to the store for some green food coloring....can you believe I couldn't find the old fashion kind? They only had the jel kind and I tried that and it worked lousey.
Gonna take a 15 min break now, watch the today show and breath deeply!!
Good Morning All. Had a very bad night. Arm hurting, sleeping on the heating pad for my back, up and down all night. Sarv, I hear you on twisted night clothes. I have gotten up in the morning missing the gown I started out in, not even remembering when I got rid of it.
Off the the chiropractor, glad I already had an appointment, then to grocery and Walmart.
You all keep baking and shopping, and I will check in later.
Morning all
Sure have enjoyed the nice aray of ciber goodies that have been offered over the holidaies. We have some mighty good cooks in "coffee".
Defoe, hope you get some relief today.
The DH has his eye appointment this morning to have his eye checked after the procedure they did the other week. I know things are okay ... but it will be good to hear the doc say so. LOL He went for his company physical yesterday and they want him to have a Thalium Stress Test. Did an EKG. Don't think they found anything ... just probably have a car payment coming up. Actually, the big 5 0 is coming up for him, so I'm thinking that's just coming with the territory. :)
I've got a deposition to type today, so might not be around as much for the next couple of days. Hate for there to be murders, etc. but when there are ... sometimes it means I get a little work. One of those catch situations.
Y'all have a good day.
... Elaine
Serv, what is hanky banky, I did not think that was something to eat lol
D'cat....sorry you had a bad night. A bad night usually runs into the day.....I know how that is.
Have you ever heard of that new foam for beds? It's what the astronauts used....it's a Magic Foam or something...They have entire beds made out of it for about 2,000 but I bought a mattress pad of it for about 80 bucks at Sams (this was for a King one)...It's wonderful and has made a difference in my sleep. It molds to your shape and then goes back when you move. It cushions all the joints so they don't hurt as much.
I used to do the same thing with my night clothes.....so I stopped wearing them. LOL Actually, it makes for better sleeping.
See you all later....
Hap
Maria.......shame shame.
gotta go to work, gotta go shopping, gotta pick up a greenhouse heater, pant, pant, pant.
Shame on you !! Get your mind outta the gutter LOL
Hanky Pankies:
1 # ground beef
1# pork sausage - hot
1# velveeta
1 t. oregano
1 T worcheshire sauce
1T ketchu[
1/2 t garlic powder
loaf of party rye or pumpernickle (those 2" square little bread things)
brown gb and sausage - drain - add velveeta and seasonings. Stir until well mixed. Spread onto bread squares. I throw mine in the freezer and take out what I want - pop in the toaster oven or do a big batch in the real oven. Bake til bubbly. This is a man's appetizer. Haven't found one yet that didn't like them!
Still haven't decided what to do next- maybe hop in the shower and try to decide!! Trying to tame my wild hair still!!
ha ha and who thought I was prim and proper, was it you Elaine LOL?
Just don't think I am worried, Elaine, just having a bit of fun with Sarv
~doing the shame shame shame finger pointing here~ LOL (You guys REALLY slipped up *this* time! hehehe)
Don't know how much I'll be able to be here today. Installation guys coming to put in the Direct TV satellite service...and since he's going to be on the roof messing with the dishes, I might lose my ISP satellite for a while as well.
D.cat...I sure hope that 'bone cracker' gets you back up and running.
Hap, so those temperpedic pads are *really* good? DH has been thinking about getting one...I try to keep him away from that dept because I'll have to buy new sheets if we put any kind of think pad on the beds. It's all I can do to keep the sheets on with just a regular quilted mattress pad. (And yes, I've even got the sheet "garters" on the bottoms.)
Well, the guy just called and he's on his way.
Hopefully I'll see y'all later,
~julie~
Yes, Julie, they are terrific, as far as I'm concerned. My pad is only 2 1/2 inches thick. I do, however, have the deep cut sheets and there is no problem. I really would recommend the pad to anyone that has trouble sleeping.
Hap
I do have one of those mattresses it is very comfortable, I adjust it elecrically to how hard or soft I wanted
Good morning all! I got some really bad news last night. The girl I share my office with found out yesterday that her DH has cancer of the esophagus (sp). He is only 35-38 years old. She said it was in an advanced stage. They are going for a CAT scan today and will be starting radiation and chemo by the end of the week. Please keep this couple in your prayers.
Did make some cookies last night and left some on the counter for your coffee. Will do snickerdoodles and biscotti tonight, maybe thumbprint cookies if I have time. Made choc. chips last night and eggnog crescents. The Eggnog cookies didn't taste right. First time I made them so not sure if it is the recipe or something I did.
Just made some sugar cookies in the new food processor, will bake after I go feed momma. But they sure worked up quick and easy.
D'cat, your arm, if this dr. doesn't work have you considered that you have a torn rotator cuff. I had one in 2002 pulled a 3 gallon watering can out of the rain barrel too fast and heard everything go pop and snap. Then reinjured it 2 more times in a month had an MRI and sure enough it was torn. Had surgery (not a nice surgery) but it fixed it. DH had it last year and his is OK after surgery that they now give you a special block so that you don't feel pain till about 8 hours later. He still hurt after but I think the block got him over the hump. I now think I have done my left arm but it doesn't keep me in constant pain like the right one did, but it is hurting in the a.m. till I get it moving.
Suziq, prayers for your coworker's dh. So sad, hate it when things like this happen but especially this time of year. It seems to leave a bad taste for the holiday season for years to come.
Sounds yummy Sarv.
Joy, can you post the Food Processor Sugar Cookie recipe for me? Please?
~j~
Good morning folks. Susieq, that is really sad. Things like this always seem to be worse when they happen around the holidays. I hope the doctors can help him. He is quite young to have this, is he a smoker?
Sarv, those hankie pankies sound like something my husband would love, except I would use cheddar since velveta is too plastic for our tastes. Now tell us about the puppy chow.
Dcat, I hope you are feeling better by the time you read this.
We got one of those sleep number beds and are quite happy with it. I adjust the firmness with the touch of a remote. They sell special deep pocket sheets to fit it, not cheap.
Yesterday I met my sister for lunch and she had an early Christmas present for me, with 4 feet, black and white fur, and a very good motor, and maybe 9 or 10 weeks old. A rescue, the lone survivor of a ferrel litter that was living under a porch. The lady who found her tamed her but is leaving her home for the winter so had to find a place for her to go. My sister has a new pup and throught the kitten would not survive there. Not that I need a kitten but here she is. I tried to get some pictures of her last night, will post one when I get a good one. Right now she is in the bathroom with cat carrier bed, litter box, food and water bowls. She has met the dog we keep part time, an enthusiastic Jack Russel Terrier who likes cats and just wants to play, she is not ready to play dog style games! My female house cat knows she is in the bathroom and growls at her under the door, I sure hope this will work out. My house cat is very territorial but I am hoping that since this is a kitten she will not feel threatened about her territory. Time will tell. Meanwhile, this new kitten needs to be defleaed and wormed asap. I have hand picked a few fleas where she is white and I could see them last night, so I suspect the rest of the kitten must also be loaded! That gives me a creepy and itchy feeling.
Hello to those I may have missed. I usually don't reply individually, but try to. After all, if we were physically sitting around a table we wouldn't get to hear all the conversations and nobody would feel offended if somebody at the far end of the table didn't comment. I'm always amazed at the ones here who manage to read all of it and comment on everything. Most of us just don't have that much time.
Gotta get dressed and go feed the horses. Our weather warmed up, rained on the snow and everything is melting so I don't have to go chop ice out of the spring this morning! Wow, this almost feels like a vacation.
Guys, it's not a motorized bed....it's just a Magic Foam pad that fits over your present mattress. It's only about 80 bucks....Cheap for a good nites sleep.
In with a cold today. Watching the boob tube and wondering about Vicks on my feet. I know some of you know what I am talking about....hehehe
Back to bed and will catch up later.
Hap
Just finished a batch of peanut cookies- they are my favorite and I have already munched 2 of them tasting them...they are better when they cool!! Gonna package them up and have DH hide them... Now I'm thinking of making the molasses ones - they recipe is a huge one, so I think I will only make a half a batch .
Mary, that puppy chow is the mix made with chex mix, chocolate, peanut butter and covered with powdered sugar = addicting too.
Suz - that is awful about your co=workers DH. I just made a comment to my DH that every night when I peruse the obits ( can't believe I do that) that there are more and more young folk dying of cancer. Really scarey to me!
Just got a call from my cousin inviting us to a family gathering on Christmas eve day - we have my DH family gathering that night and they are in opposite parts of the county - so we'll have to miss that one. Darn, that is the one that I love going to....first time we've missed it ever!! Oh well, we were together in Oct, so I did see them kinda recently!
Hap - I put two of those egg carton pads under my sheet = it feels squishy. I wonder if the foam pad from Sam's would be better. My arm still hurts - especially when I lay on it. Maybe I should check it out. Think if I got a king and folded it in half that it would be even better???
Gotta go grab something nurishing for lunch....
Sarv...
The beds that they sell are about 8-10 inches think, so I think it would work. This is much better than the egg crate stuff. You really don't notice anything different, just comfort.
With Sams, it you don't like it you can always take it back.....
Hap
Canni have a cookie, please...huh?
Well, back from the "bone cracker" grocery and Walmart. We have to drive about 15 miles, I was in so much pain riding in the car that I cried most of the way there. But chiropractor did his thing, and I am feeling better, have ice on it now. I am to go back tomorrow for another session.
I am having my family for dinner tonight, so just dived into the work when I came home, I may just collapse when this night is over. Instead of the traditional meal, I am having (at my BIL's request) fish, hush puppies, slaw, baked beans, and for desert, Jam cake with caramel icing and a chocolate pudding type cake, it's called Devils float. It is cake on the top, then a rich chocolate sauce on the bottom, so when you spoon it out, you turn it over, and add whipped cream.
All this cookie baking is making me tired. But I know it is expected. Why don't we do this all year?
Susieq, so sorry to hear about co-workers DH. Not a good diagnosis, but especially bad at this time of year.
DMIL sees the surgeon tomorrow, and the decision about surgery will be made then.
Interesting reading about foam pads for the bed. If my back continues this, will look into it. Last year bought a new mattress to the tune of $1,000.00 It helped but still not helping the problem.
Well, got to get the prep done for dinner, so I will check in later. Save some of those cookies for me, please, one of each will be enough.
Sarv, I have one of the magic pads just like the one at Sam's, but insurance paid for all but 15.00 for it. I had my doctor write a prescription for it because of my sore back and hip. I went to a medical supply house here and they filled it just like a regular prescription and I only have a 15.00 co pay. I love it and DH says it has helped with his shoulders and neck also.
MaryE, so glad you are having a warming trend today. I smile every time you mention having to chip the ice out of the horses water. It is just so foreign to me. We are suppose to get to 68 today and its the first day of Winter. This is the first year in many that we have had several below freezing nights in a row during the month of December. Cant wait to see what January and the new year bring us with the weather.
Suzie, send my thoughts and prayers to your coworker and her DH. Cancer is a hard thing to deal with and to be handling it during the holidays just adds a bit more stress to the mixture. I hope all will work out for them.
Happy, I am at work and have Vicks on my feet. Good thing I am the only one here. I smell like a peppermint lifesaver. LOL But I feel a bit better.
To all of you that have baked my address is in the exchange and I love chocolate. LOL Just Kidding of course. I haven't found the gumption to bake yet this year. I figure that I managed getting the tree up and decorations on it, I mailed my one Christmas card, (M5) and wrapped some of the gifts. For someone who really would have rather skipped the holidays this year I am ahead of the game. Only 4 more days and I will be able to start crawling out of my hole.
Julie, I tried. Honestly!!!!! I did a couple of the designs and they look good. I just cant understand that manual. Guess it takes more then a Masters Degree. I will try again tonight when I get home though.
DH wants to get me a food processor after the holidays. If I am going to be doing canning when we move which one should I get and do they all come with the same attachments and are they any I should make sure I have to make this as least complicated as possible.
Well I am about as bored as can be here at work. Thankfully I figured out how to get around the filters here at work to get to DG. Hope all are safe and warm
Casey
Woodspirit, hope your busy day was a good one and you managed to get everything you wanted to get done. You ran in and out so quick I can tell you were really pumped up for it. LOL
Meezer, is there several different patterns to the willow print? I tried to look up to see what you are talking about and I see so many differences in them. I have a couple of plates and things from my mother that look similiar to the ones I saw on the sites.
Made it Beloit and back in good time, except for the part where the State Trooper was cruising along at 55 mph in a 65 zone, and nobody wanted to pass him. I think he was just being contrary and seeing how many cars he could accumulate behind him. Then there was the wide load, I mean WIDE load, doing the same thing.
Carat, these aren't the real old antique plates, like the ones I got from my stepmom, these mostly came out in the eighties although the pattern is the same. There are several different mfgrs in the UK that make them, these are by Churchill, and are sturdy and can be microwaved or dishwashered without worry. I'll post a pic for you.
I'm not baking another thing. I'm cookied out. Should be more than enough to get us past New Years when I once again don't start a diet.
Julie check your Dmail, I'm sending a list of all the folks who've been with us for coffee from the beginning, I went up to May and added a few notes. Also have lists of some who came in and never came back, and those who just occasionally drop in!! LOL After May, we had new folks but I ran out of patience so you can pick up where I left off if you want to fool around with it.
I've heard the "memory foam" mattress pads are wonderful, but the mattresses are hideously expensive. I haven't had much of a problem finding deep corner sheets for our mattress which has extra padding on it, and is a tight fit for conventional fitted kings. I must sleep on my left shoulder too because it is bad some days, and not on others. Best purchase was the under the mattress pad bed warmer! Lovely to get into a toasty warm bed and then turn it off for the rest of the night.
Awww, Mary! A new baby, can't wait to see pictures! Too bad he came with "friends", but that's often the case with ferals. I don't know how the girls are going to greet their new little brother in January, but I expect they will adapt. I was thinking about Oskar today, and had a sad spell, he was such a great cat. I know the new guy won't be like him, he was one of a kind. On the other hand, maybe he'll keep Mini busy and she'll leave me alone. She must think we've changed her name to Ohshutup.
I'm going to wrap. Yes. Right now. No more dillydallying. Got dinner in the slow cooker, one of those frozen deals. Just as much work as if you did it yourself. Don't be fooled!
Later.
That is my new mattress too, a memory one, think this is why the sciatica has demished quite a bit
nice, Meezers, they were my first dishes for every day when first married, finally gave them to the church yard sale
Good Afternoon All,
Just have a sec. to pop in and say hi. All this talk of mattresses is making me tired,,LOL We also need a new one, but will have to wait.
Hap,
Get that Vick's on your feet with some socks and get some rest. Hope you feel better after the Vick's.
Ann,
Good luck with the triple holiday's being so close together for you.
sarv,
C'mon over,,,I'll get you fixed up in a jiffy,,,LOL
Elaine,
Hope the news is good for Danny. Will say a prayer for you both.
suzie,
So sorry to hear about your co-workers husband,,,will say a prayer for them.
Mary,
Oh, how sweet,,,,another baby around the house
Julie,
Good luck with the installation today,,,hope everything works well once they are done.
dcat,
Glad to hear the bone cracker helped some.
Casey,
LOL,,,We're glad you found a way too,,,this way you won't have to be bored,,,
M5,
I hate that when cops do that,,,,even if the speed limit is 65,,,still feel like you shouldn't pass them. grrrrr
Maria,
Glad to hear the mattress has helped your sciatica.
It's Bill's birthday today,,,the girl that work in the office at the cold storage where he works, called the country music radio station and requested a song for him for hi b-day,,,,"Billy's got his Beer Goggles on",,,ROFLOL,,,haven't heard that one before,,,how funny!!!! Well, he'll have them on tonight,,,,,He told me they're going to the bar for a couple,,,told him I'd meet them after I get done around 7.
Well, back to work,,,have a great day all.
Kelly
edited to add,,,,,sorry if I missed anyone,,,was not intentional,,,just in a hurry today.

Hi Julie, these are not specially for my food processor but they worked out well:
Sugar Cookies
2 eggs
1 cup of shortening, I used oleo
1 cup white sugar
1/2 tsp. vanilla
mixed together at #3 speed for just a bit
1/2 tsp salt
2 tsp baking powder
3 cups of flour
I pulsed this till it looked like cookie dough and wrapped in plastic to slice off and bake. I will say they do not slice well even cold and have popped the other roll in to the freezer for a while so they would cut better. I think they need to be rolled and cutout to be good. These are not as thin and crisp as I would like but with some frosting I am sure the guys will enjoy them.
Edited to say I think shortening would have been better.
