Just wanted to introduce ourselves

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

My name is Lorry-
I am 33 yrs old and love gardening.
Currently my passions are, African violets, episcia, alsobia, cryptanthus, bromeliads, succulents, cacti and orchids.
I have my orchids and violets in my sunroom and my cacti, and succulents live outdoors in my own lil personal desert :)

My husband is into almost anything he can plant outdoors. He loves his palm trees most of all though I think :)

Welcome to DG. You should post this on one of the flower forums as the members that frequent that may not come to this forum. You can find the whole list of forums by clicking above on My Info and picking all the forums you'd like to read on.

Hope this helps,
Happy Day,

Hi Chris and Lorry. Welcome to DG. I think it is the best web site out there. I am located in Wisconsin and it is very cold and snowy here already. I am stictly an outdoor flower gardener. I just started flower gardening last year. I am sure that this site will help me to improve my gardens. I wish I would have found the site sooner. I definately would have planted things differently. I look forward to seeing your posts from sunny Florida.

Hi, Chris & Lorry! My hubby Howie and I have been here at DG since 2001 and love it -- glad to have you join us. We're expecting 3-6" of snow tonight...Think of us as you admire your palm trees. ;) Like KristaJoy, we pretty much stick to outdoor plants, though I do have three tropicals in our front window right now.

Hi Chris & Lorry. Welcome to DG. The folks here are grand. And you will learn way more about gardening than you could ever put to use in 3 lifetimes. Happy Gardening to you. Wish you could send us some warm weather. We are having snow right now.

Hi Chris and Lorry. Welcome to DG. I have been coming to DG for a little over a year now and I have really enjoyed it. It has made my new hobby so much more exciting than it would have been. I hope that you enjoy meeting everyone and this is a great place to be.

Greetings from Alaska, the state where palm trees go to die! LOL! We're having a rainy, warm spell right now, with temps in the upper 30's to lower 40's. Florida would probably be way too hot for me, but it would be nice to see the sun for a change! Welcome to DG. I'm sure you're going to love it as much as the rest of us do.

What! I can't believe that it is that warm there. We haven't even been in the 20's for weeks now. The 30's and 40's would seem balmy. I hope your weather is heading our way. Blow hard and send it south. That would be perfect for Christmas. You deserve a break. I don't think I could deal with the extremes that you have there for such long periods of time.

I'd be happy to see it chill down. The dark skies and rain are getting tedious. I swear I see mushrooms sprouting up in our dirt pile! Two weeks ago it was in the teens. I'd much rather have the cold.

The variations in our winter weather are one of the big reasons I mulch, not the cold. Our plants appreciate their freeze and dormant period, but a warm spell can wake them up too early, and the next cold spell kill them dead. Mulching keeps the ground temp more constant.

I spent a year in northern Wisconsin about 35 years ago, and that was some extreme weather... hot summers and cold, cold winters. Here it seems the extremes are from one day to the next!
