Personally, I could do with a lot less character building and a H*** of a lot more chocolate.

Elaine,,,If I had enough to drink I would probably take you up on that,,,,ROFLMBO
M5,,,I'm with you,,,Methinks I will indulge in a little Christmas Cheer this evening after work,,,I like this little drink that I think I would get in trouble if I posted the name of it here. So, I will refrain from doing so. Shucky Darn,,,LOL
Kelly
Mmm, chocolate. Hey, Ann, I just went to Scott Slapin's site...What beautiful music, and what terrible devastation.
hello all I have missed you!!!!
read some as much as I could sorry as usual not to comment on everyone.
Popping in and staying tuned though!!
Mags
Hey everybody! Had a good day of shopping. Got alot acomplished even with Mom in tow.
Darius - Glad the storage thing worked out for you. Hopefully from here on there won't be any more glitches.
Sarv - Schnaps and hot chocolate sounds good. I like pepermint in mine. I also use butterscotch or vanilla schnaps in hot mulled cider.
Maria - mmmmm applie pie!
Kelly - know what you mean about those good ol days. Now it's bed by 10 or I ain't worth a darn in the morning. I hope my son NEVER does some of the stulpid things I did. LOL
To anyone i missed, sorry. Catch ya later!
If I idid now what I did in my youth, it would probably kill me. Used to go out drinking until 2:00 am, get a cab home (psych. aides residence, and get up at 6:30 for floor duty, 7 to 3. Good thing I got it out of my system when I was young and stupid. Now, if I have a drink once or twice a year, I think I'm really living it up. Although my DIL and I last year went through a liter of Bailey's while we were in the Bahamas. (Can't bring it through customs once it's been opened. And it's Naughty to be wasteful. )
Casey, is that drink "... on the Beach? I used to love...White Russians, and Pink Squirrels, anybody remember those? Must have been 900 calories in that little glass, cream, creme de noyaux, creme de cocoa, real cream.........ahhhhh. Once in Mexico I ordered a cream based cocktail and they made it with evaporated milk, Ewwwww and ughhhhhhhhh.
So generous of you to offer to drive Elaine, you probably couldn't do worse than some people I see on the road!
Ebay seller dropped the price on the blue willow another $4 which also reduced the postage. Got two more plates from another seller. I gave my youngest DD the set that was my step- grandmother's which she brought from the UK. It's all gone, lost or broken. She also had her silver which likely suffered a similar fate. Stupid girl.
Welcome back Mags, bet you missed us.
Sarv, my DH doesn't drink alcohol at all, but he drinks gallons of coffee, tea, soft drinks, water. He was hit by lightening in his teens, and a lot of people who had that happen are very thirsty all the time. I think their electrolytes get fried out of balance. They also suffer from migraines and cluster headaches, which DH has had under control for a couple of years now. The cluster headaches are especially bad because they keep repeating, they are just like a migraine, but can come back several times in a 24 hour period. They were terrible.
Off to Ebay. Try to behave while I'm gone.
meezersfive, I can't believe your DD did that to your Blue Willow dishes. *shame* on her! I have that pattern. Of course it's the one that Publix had in the grocery a few years back, but I got it because I remember what it looks like. Ahhhh, soooo very beautiful. I really must agree with you that she is *stupid*. LOL
And yes ... I too think I could drive equally as well as some of those idiots out there. At least I wouldn't drive with my cell phone. :)
Sarv, I must confess to drinking cinnamon snapps. I have done my time with that, too. The only good thing about drinking and being blind is you can always blame it on the "blind" thing. LOL
Oh Maria ... between you and Defoe I'm putting on weight. First the biscuits and now the cake.
okus, your discription of making tea brought back memories to me. My Grandma use to live in a little town ... Wyandotte, MI. There was a little old English woman who's name was Mrs. Puddington who was a doll. Use to invite me over for tea and biscuits. Now I thought we were *really* going to have biscuits. Imagine my surprise at this honest to goodness English afternoon tea as a 13 year old GA girl. I'd never seen a tea cozy or anything of the like. She was a dear lady, though.
Okay, I'm tired tonight. Am going to bed. Nightnight
... Elaine

We're still in the dark ages here -can't use phone and computer at the same time. WHOOOE if I could, I wouldn't get a thing done all day!!! and Jan 2. New diet starting then
Us too with one exception. Courtesy of our kids who've been gone for 9 years now, we have two phone lines. Yippee!
Should we remind you of that date? And enjoy eating till then. ;-)
Mary E. I think most of us have had the cat of a lifetime. I was devastated when mine became ill just about this time in 2000. We managed to keep her comfortable until early March but then put her down. I still miss her. Was nowhere near as upset when the other cat died. We liked her, but ....
darius, sorry about the latest glitch with the storage. I hope you are able to resolve it. You wrote
Actually, I think bad times help build character and compassion.
gardenwife - Scott Slapin is a very fine violist. I think I've met him at Viola Congresses, but I don't know him as well as I know many others. The devastation is pretty awful and he says he just got back from a trip to NO. They plan to return to a suburb in March but are presently still in a hotel in Knoxville, TN. I believe that he has a temporary job with an orchestra there. Sort of hits home when you see the devastation that one person you sort of know has experienced and then realize that it goes on for thousands more. Also hits home when you realize that this is three months later and the devastation is so complete that not much has changed.
I was at work until nearly 7 pm. Am now stuffing Viola Society newsletters into envelopes and listening to a special viola concert that was held last March in Montréal - a collaboration between the CBC and McGill University. I knew it was to be broadcast, but would have missed it if I hadn't heard a promo for it just before leaving work. it was originally scheduled to be broadcast a couple of months ago, but the CBC was locked out for nearly two months at the end of the summer.
Hope you all have a good evening. I'll check in again tomorrow.
Ann
Elaine,
Darn right,,,don't want to get another warning,,,,even though a lot of people take their kids into liquor stores with them and even if they don't,,,, I'm sure kids now days could teach me a few things about drink names,,,LOL Hey and at least you do have something to blame it on,,,LOL
suzie,
Glad to hear you had a productive shopping day. Get your self prepared 'cause it's bound to happen,,,we All have to go through our *stupid* stage,,,and parents have to do a lot of praying and hoping that they get out of it quickly and non worse for wear,,,LOL
M5, I hear ya,,,Bill always tells me what a fuddy dud old lady I am,,LOL but with some of my meds, alcohol affects me much quicker than it used to,,,I told him at least I'm a cheap date,,LOL The drink is Hot S**,,,it's delicious,,,comes pre bottled,,,just pour it over ice,,,,,my All Time favorite are Margarita's though,,,gosh I love those,, But they go down like Kool -Aid,,,LOL
Well, Cheers everyone,,LOL
Kelly
Meezer, were you spying on me and my co workers today. We were discussing a man that was hit by lightning and then was needing to take water pills because he consumed so much water that he was retaining quite a bit. I doctor had said that the body was tricked into believing that the skin was over heated. He also said that the man had a constant body temp of 100.2 instead of our normal 98.7.
It wasn't me who was talking about the drinks but I have had the *** on the beach a few times and like it. I usually only drink wine with dinner on occasion or after a really stressful day, but did lead a pretty wild life as a young adult. Living here has some perks for a 21 year old. Reason 12 for wanting to move before my wild child gets much older.
Meezer, I dont remember the blue willow dishes, but have recently bought a few blue patterned dishes to do a mosaic tile design on a bird bath that needs some perking up for the next season.
Elaine, I apologize but I think I will just have to follow behind you with the camera. I am really hoping for some good footage to submit to Funniest Home Videos.
Hope everyone is having a great evening.
Casey
Casey,
Glad to see you. Hope work is starting to settle down for you. Very good reason for moving,,,LOL I Know what it's like for 16 year olds in Vegas,,,My best friend moved there when we were 16,,,I went out to visit that year for Thanksgiving. Didn't get into too much trouble,,,Her Dad told us if he heard that we were downtown he would break our fingers,,,,we Never went downtown,,,LOL Did have lots of fun though.

I made bread pudding with raisins today, help yourselves! It's really good warmed up. Of course I had to have some before it even got cool.
The Eugenia Price book that I started reading today is "Beloved Invader" the first of 3 books she wrote about St Simons Island. I also got "New Moon Rising" and" Lighthouse" and will read them in that order which is how she wrote the. She wrote at least 11 novels and I hope to be able to find them all at my local library or get them on interlibrary loans. A good winter's reading I should think, maybe 2 winters.
I've also added Pepermint Schnaps to my hot chocolate. It doesn't take much to give it some zip and it helps you relax before bed.
darius, I'm so glad you found another nearby storage unit. Only a few days before you are gone, right?
Oh, and I'm another one of those people with dial up and only one line. I think it would cost an arm and a leg way out here to have another line put in, and we rarely get a phone call anyhow. Yes, really. Sometimes 2-3 days go by without anybody calling. But, many people do call my hubby on his cell phone if the computer has the line.
Regular gas was $2.23 yesterday when I was in town. Hope the downward trend continues. On the other side of the state (Portland area) some stations are below $2.
Time to clean up the dinner mess and grab the book again. Yes, it's good!
Just a quick line: The blue willow I have now was sold in a supermarket, one of those "this week" and you got to buy them with a discount depending on how much you spent on groceries. I got several serving pieces, four plates, two small cereal/fruit bowls, two soup bowls, before they stopped selling them. The dishes are made in England, by Churchill, and are very nice.
I wanted to get more dinner plates, etc., so I checked on Ebay and found lots of them. Some are way overpriced, like the casserole and tureen....which I can live without. I should end up with 8 more plates, six cereals, and six soups, but I'll need to hunt some more for salads etc. I'm tempted not to buy much more right now being the season that the PO likes to dropkick parcels due to the seasonal rush.
Edited to say, "quick line", good luck with that.

Sounds like everybody's been really busy! Missed posting yesterday, decided to work overtime and make some extra moolah.
Had an interesting, but scarey experience Monday. Half way to work, behind another car, and a third traveler, arriving at a stop sign that 'T's with the highway we were on, did not see the stopsign. She was unfamiliar with the road and it was dark and she just flew right thru it, across the road in front of us and into the ditch. The 2 plus feet of snow were a bonus as she just landed and didn't move another inch! WOW! We both stopped, other lady had a cell phone so I hollered at her to call 911 while I ran down to the car. Driver was fine and the little guy in the back seat was ok too. Thankfully in a car seat! She was quite shaken up tho. Emer personnel arrived about 20 mins later and took them from my warm car (it was -12 or -10, bitterly cold!) into the ambulance for a check up. Cop took both of our names and we headed on to work.
Today I was very upset to find out my work expects me to take a 'attendance point' for being late on Monday. Can u believe it? Law and human morality dictates that we stay at an accident till emer help arrives, but the boss doesn t think so? I'm beginning to have doubts about the character of the center manager. Last week Monday when we had a blizzard and all the interstates were closed, he refused to declare inclement weather procedures so anyone that left early or didn't come in would get 'points'. Also, the weather policy requires that they pay an extra .50/hour to those who make it in for their shift. Pretty shallow if u ask me!! Money is the bottom line, not personnel, it appears. I have an appt with him tomorrow....could be interesting!
Made my first Christmas cookies last night - Almond Lace Rolls. yummy! have some folks. I better cut down on the butter next time tho, a bit too much on them.
hi to everyone, can't begin to address all of u. Sympathies on the pet loss tho - we've got one coming up in the not too distant future. I'm hoping not for a year or so yet. Time will tell....
oh, Mary, I think I've read all of her books. I like them - we had many of them in the church library back home. :)
kooger,
what a scary experience. Glad both Mom and son were o.k. Boss' can be such inhumane people. I can understand company policy however there are extenuating circumstances at times that should be over looked. You're right, by Law you were required to stay at that scene. Maybe if you had left, your boss would have been happy to pay the fine you would have gotten (If they fine you, I don't know),,,LOL,,,Such insanity,,,and then they *make* people put their lives in jeopardy traveling on roads that aren't fit to drive on,,,Police are telling radio and tv stations to announce that people stay home and company's are insisting they come in,,,,,Oy Vey
Kelly
Somehow I can't imagine a smile on his face when I would present a 'leaving the scene' ticket!!!
Just had to drop by on my way from the bathroom to say ... Mary you *won't* be disappointed in those books you've chosen. Those were some of her best books. In fact, they are probably responsible for my love of lighthouses. I have them all over my house. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did.
Also need to correct a misunderstanding in my last post. Those days of drinking are long gone. Those were my young wild and crazy days. LOL And it was that pepermint snapps ... not cinnamon. Realized that after someone mentioned it. LOL
Oh yeah, I also was able to get the extra pieces of my Blue Willow with the stamps from buying groceries. I've got the platters, covered casserole, teapot with sugar and creamer and salt and pepper. Also got those little soup mugs which we use all the time. My Grandma bought part of mine, though. The Blue Willow doesn't exactly go with my lighthouse theme, though. My kitchen is in blue and green.
Okay, I'm back off to bed.

Okay, it's not the 8th yet. So I am going to post here.
Had a busy day, went to the grocery, and walmart, and did some Christmas shopping while in town. I had planned on a BIG shopping trip tomorrow, but they are predicting snow, so will wait to see what the weather is. DMIL went to hospital today for some tests on her heart. It was previously thought that it was her lungs, but lung specialist said that it was her heart. So back to Dr on the13th. to find out the results of her tests. Well, I have a busy day tomorrow, with wrapping presents, working on some presents, (mosiac flower pots) and DGD a throw, with fringe. She is really into Bratz dolls, and found the fleecy material at walmart today to make the throw. She will just love it. Also cleaning out some more stuff from the attic. This time to the trash pick up on Friday!!
Not going to comment on all the post today except to say, the "wild and crazy days" are long over. Had a few wild ones, but don't bounce back like when a teen. Elaine, I would have accepted your offer of a Designated Driver years ago. Now, not so sure. There was a County Judge in the next county over who was blind, and related that while in college, some buddies and he went out drinking, and he indeed was the DD. They others told him when to steer left, steer right, stop at stop signs, and when they eventually got home. I believe him, as he was a "wild one" and was a gifted public speaker. He is very calmed down now, and lives a life that is an example to others. Why as young people do we do such stupid things? Maybe all in the name of maturing?
Well, off to bed, already anxious to see what kind of weather I wake up to.
Keep warm, and sleep well.
ut oh! Posted to the 8th already! sorry!
Sylvia
Have you guys heard about the role of the Designated Decoy?
