Coffee and...For Dec.06, 2005

Hi M5
So glad to hear from you today. :) I know things will be tough for a while for both you and the DH but am glad to see you're back with us tonight for a minute. I do have on my "cuddle duds". I've been freezing all day, and it's only going to get worse. Thanks for those well wishes for the DH, and yes ... I'm very lucky.

Defoe, you've got a date for those country ham biscuits at Easter. LOL I just hope you ate a fish for me tonight. Maybe a cat fish? Yum!

Ah, Sheila,
I don't know what to say. Everyone has said so much of what I feel for you here. I do want to reach across the states and hug you tho.
I am sheding tears as I read and write.
Am glad that the other puddy cats are hunking down together tho.

Meezer, I am so sorry to hear about Oskar. I think "the girls" are in mourning too, and I know cats can tell how your feeling. They sense our sadness too.

Hugs to you,
DD

Evening all,

My eyes are sore too because everytime I've checked this forum today, they'd start leaking again. I know how big a hole it leaves in your lives and in your hearts, but at least your little fur kid won't suffer any more.

That cake looked really good, Maria. I hope you're able to get that massage soon since the really bad weather seems to have given us a miss this time.

If anyone was really serious about finding out more about the grub "farm". We just couldn't afford to keep buying the things to feed the bluebirds (and every titmouse, chickadee, nuthatch, and sparrow in the neighborhood), so I did a little research and decided that I'd save a few from the last batch we bought and see if I could raise them in the cellar. I bought two large, deep, plastic containers and a fifty pound back of bran from a feed store, poured some of the bran into each container and put in around half the grubs in each. They need a piece of potato or apple once in a while to provide moisture and they like to have a piece of newspaper to hide under (but this doesn't seem to be essential) Sure enough, we now have a lot of small mealworms down there, but it's taken months to get to this stage. I'm not sure I could produce enough to feed all the hungry birds out in the backyard unless I do this on a much larger scale. (Shuddering at the thought!) Okay, now it's at the point where I think that I need to sift the whole mess and put the grubs into some fresh bran. I asked DH to lug the rest of the bran into the house a few days ago---it's been sitting in an outside shed for the summer. Murphy's Law is alive and well-----the bran turned out to be a great medium for another little lifeform. Suddenly the place was full of pantry moths and it took me entirely too long to figure out where they were coming from! I just hope that they didn't get into the birdseed, the big bag of rice we just bought, etc., etc. At least the moth traps that I'd bought before from Gardens Alive seem to be working pretty well. I don't know whether or not any of the bran will be salvageable. It's outside in the bitter cold now to kill off the unwanted inhabitants.

Babs, hope your Mom gets better and that you and DH shake that virus quickly.

Mary, glad your horse is getting better.

101 also glad that your DH's eye problems seem to be on the mend.

I know that I haven't even acknowledged everyone, but I'm feeling kind of wiped out tonight so will have to leave it at that. Waving to everyone. Good night.

Well, it didn't take long to catch up after supper.

M5, cry a little longer for Oskar, then wipe those tears and give the other 2 lady furbies their share of care that Oskar would have had. Yes, pets do seem to know our states of mind. Souky and Mini, will be there to console you. They will miss Oskar as much as you. Be kind to them!! |M5, I got that hug, thanks.

Darius, when is the bad luck fairy gonna get off your shoulder? Now I can't wait to see what kind of glitch they will tell you about. Please post as soon as you know. Maybe this is the last thing, before you head down the mountain. Smooth sailing from now on. Will pray for that.

101, Easter it is. How about some good old big buttermilk biscuits, and the tenderly fried country ham. We can have it before we go to church, and people will be envious of smelling our breath!! Nope it wasn't cat fish, but bass. Real good. Caught locally, by DH and neighbor who has since died. Brought back some memories for DH as we ate. I held my breath all day, waiting for news of your DH eye exam. WHOOPEE!! Good news. Was alarmed that he would have a problem, which would ultimately affect you. So now am finally able to breathe again.

Well, I said I would tell you what I did today, as if anyone is interested. Since I needed freezer space to store some of that pork, took some strawberries out and made strawberry preserves this morning. Found 2 bags of ice, that I immediately put on the deck ( they are still frozen). Will take them to DM's tomorrow, as we can use them at Christmas. Then in putting some things away, saw that I needed to clean refrigerator. I found a carton of meal worms, that DH had stashed in there from the summer of fishing. UGG. Have you ever seen lettuce with grey mold on it? Well I found something, which I think was lettuce, out it went. Do you get the idea that I hate to clean the fridge? DH even commented about the extra room and the cleanliness of it. (that is bad). Tomorrow is errand running day and grocery shopping. DMIL went to a lung specialist today, and was told that it was not her lungs, but her heart. So has to go to the hospital tomorrow for a bunch of tests. She has been on oxygen since September, the Dr's thinking that the bent posture from osteoporosis was compressing her lungs. So keep your fingers crossed about that. And those of you who believe in prayer, I would appreciate that very much. Her name is Naomi, I know God knows who she is, but sometimes it helps me know the name of the person I am praying for.

Well, I am off to bed, hopefully to sleep, and dream not. Don't have trouble keeping warm, with DH dual control electric blanket, (his side on, mine off) him and Mr. B. to keep my feet warm.

Night all.

Oh, I meant to mention, have you all read the post from MSJEN, tittled It's the little things? In unpacking her christmas ornaments, she found they are all covered in mold. Can we start a drive to buy her new ornaments for her tree. Probably won't replace those keepsakes from kids and such, but she could start a DG ornament tree. Someday that might mean a lot to her. Let me know what you think.

darius,,
Can't imagine what they will come up with, I'll say a prayer that their *glitch* is a small one.

McCool,,,
So sorry to hear of your moth problem,,,hope they didn't do too much damage and they are gone for good.

defoe,,,
mmmmm,,,,Count me in for Easter ham and biscuits,,,what time is breakfast and what time is church?,,,LOL I would be happy to take some of that pork off your hands for you,,LOL I have also experienced the kind of science projects you have described. I put things in there and they get shoved to the back and they just seem to get lost. The next fridge I buy is gonna be one of them thar fancy models with the freezer on the bottom and the fridge on top. Maybe if I don't have to lay on the floor on my belly things won't get lost. LOL

Well, Nitey Nite all,,,Sweet Dreams.

Bonnie, I thought about it after I read the thread but decided against it for now. I think that because I wouldn't want people to just send me a slew of ornaments, but I'd love hand-picked special ones.

The new ones won't replace her memories, but special ornaments sent off and on throughout the next year from DG friends might fill some void.

If I find a superb ornament in the next 6 months, I will surely send it! (I'm moving and mine are all in storage although I might part with a family one next year.)

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

McCool, I fought India Meal Moths all summer in my pantry and even now as I'm packing I'm finding and throwing out lots of stuff not in glass jars.

Mine came from a bag of birdseed.

Central, WI(Zone 4a)

defoe,

Just a thought,,,you tell me what you think,,,instead of buying her ornaments what if we each chose a special one or two from our tree and sent it to her? I know that would make me feel so close to everyone if it were me. Whatcha think?

Ok...I'm back...I screwed up on the new daily...sure hope you guys know what DAY it is. LOL I put the wrong date in the Thread title. (Go ahead and tease me...I can take it. :-D)

I'm not going to scroll back and forth tonight...and I didn't take any notes or open a second window. So, one more time it's "HI EVERYBODY!!" :-)

I noticed two of you guys seemed to want me to move closer so I can teach you some stuff on the computer...nah...you wouldn't want me *that* close. I'd drive you NUTS! Trust me. hehehe (Either that or I'd have you bankrupt in no time...I love software! LOL)

I downloaded and tested probably 1/2 doz DVD slideshow production packages today...and even managed to cook supper and get ALL my laundry done. The laundry, in itself was a monumental task. ~grin~ Guess I should have been trying to do a little at a time ALL SUMMER! LMBO But it's done now and even folded and put away. (I even turned down my DH's side of the bed and put a little note to explain that "I didn't have any mints" - I put a tiny piece of cinnamon candy and a little bite sized Heath bar on his pillow instead. hehehe I know when he heads off to bed that he'll be back laughing at me.)

I did a couple of sample slideshows and even managed to get them to play on a couple of the DVD players in the house...the *cheap* DVD players, that is. I guess I don't know how to operate the Sony system...TOO many remote controls to figure out which one does what. ;-) Anyway...I ended up buying one of the packages, just because it worked! When I get at using that one, I might go for something with a few more bells and whistles. But for now, I'm in heaven! I finally have a way to use my photos *and* listen to MY kind of music.

Sheila, you've been on my mind (off and on) all day. And your picture has haunted me. I'm glad you doing well...but really feel so bad for your hubby. I remember when Eric lost his crow. He's not the kind of man who tears up easily...but when that crow died, I thought his heart was broken.

OK...I'm heading back to the pics and music...talk to you all tomorrow.

Defoecat, are you thinking a fund so she can purchase new ones or for us all to purchase and send an ornament???

Let me know, I am in.

((((((M5)))) You did the right thing for your baby but I too have had blurry vision all day.

Someone asked why life is mostly an uphill struggle. Well perhaps its because we have a choice between going uphill and enjoying the view from the top when we get there, or downhill into the swamp at the bottom of the valley. As you probably all know, standing still doesn't do anything for you, your feet slowlly slip down the slope, so the only thing to do is keep moving up the hill one step at a time. Some of the steep bits are really tough going, and sometimes the downhill ride looks all too tempting!!
Philosophy over!! LOL

I was sent this today and I thought it might cheer us all up, hope no one is offended:

" A 6th grade science teacher, Mrs. Parks, asked her class, "Which human body part increases to 10 times its size when stimulated?"

No one answered until little Molly stood up, angry, and said, "You should not be asking 6th graders a question like that! I'm going to tell my parents, and they will go and tell the principal, and you'll get fired!" She then sat back down.

Mrs. Parks ignored her, and asked the question again, "Which body part increases to 10 times its size when stimulated?"

Little Molly's mouth fell open, and she said to those around her, "Boy, is she gonna get in big trouble!"

The teacher continued to ignore her and said to the class, "Anybody?"

Finally, Jimmy stood up, looked around nervously, and said, "The body part that increases to 10 times its size when stimulated is the pupil of the eye."

Mrs. Parks said, "Very good, Jimmy."

She then turned to Molly and continued, "As for you, young lady, I have three things to say:

First, you have a dirty mind.

Second, you didn't read your homework.

And third, one day you are going to be VERY, VERY disappointed."

Sleep tight Y'all
