Water Bridge in Germany... What a feat!

Six years, 500 million euros, 918 meters long...a concrete bathtub....now this is engineering!

This is a channel-bridge over the River Elbe and joins the former East and West Germany, as part of the unification project. It joins the Elbe-Havel canal to the Mittelland canal near the eastern town of Magdeburg, near Berlin. The photo was taken on the day of inauguration.

To those who appreciate engineering projects..... It took 24,000 metric tons of steel and 68,000 cubic meters of concrete to build.

LOL, Don... even with the picture, I find it hard to imagine!

Schroon Lake, NY(Zone 4a)

darius I'm glad you said that (that you find it hard to imagine yourself) When I saw the title I thought "what's a water bridge"/ When I saw the picture I couldn't believe it!!
I have some Popular Science magazines from the 30's where they invented things like railroad cars full of water to carry ships across country. We get a kick out of thinking "how silly"
Now here is something that's as sci-fi sounding as that!!

Mount Angel, OR(Zone 8a)

Wow, this is really different, what will we think of next?

Northport, ME(Zone 5b)

As Frank would say on "Everybody Hates Raymond" Holy Crap!

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Very interesting. I'm glad you showed it to us, thanks Darius. Got me doing a google on water bridges to see more.
