Coffee and...For Friday, Dec. 2, 2005
Eegadds!!, I didn't get to check in at lunch today, so was waaaaay behind. Went to church to decorate today, and while lifting the 7 1/2 foot christmas tree, pulled something in my back. I finished putting up all the decorations, then home to take the turkey out of the oven. DM called and wanted me to take her to get her hair cut, so off I went. Home about an hour later, made dressing and gravy and went to DM's church for their Christmas dinner. The meal was great. It was pot luck, and had a good variety of everything. The program was recalling the best Christmas ever. I told them about the effort to raise money for Elaine's dream, and about all the good loving caring folks at DG. There wasn't a dry eye in the church. Usually when I tell anyone I am a subscriber to this site, I get the warning, you better watch out for the internet. This to me will be the best Christmas ever, not by what I get but what we have given. Spent time over in the forum for What do you want from Christmas, and am so inspired at all the stories related there. I can't tell you how good this makes me feel.
Well, I am off to bed with Mr. heating pad, to try to get my back to stop hurting. Was supposed to go on an outing with neighbors tomorrow for a Christmas open house, but for one reason or another, it has been cancelled. So I have a free day, one in a long long time. I may just do something for myself for a change, just to see how it feels.
Night all, sleep well, and dream wonderful dreams.
defoe,
ooooo, so sorry to hear about your back,,,you better slow down and take care of yourself,,,LOL My, you did have a busy day. Glad you will have tomorrow for yourself. Enjoy it!
Sweet Dreams and nitey nite,
Kelly
Good evening all,
It's not quite Dec. 2nd yet, despite the header on this thread. I've been checking in once or twice a day the last couple of days, just haven't had the energy to post anything. I've been both very busy and somewhat depressed .... my default state anyhow. Time to haul out the St. Johnswort again. (Wish it didn't taste so nasty!)
I'm glad that the medical tests looked good for both M5 and Darius and just hope everyone else's aches and pains ease off (or, better yet, disappear for good!)
Mary, your house and environs sound great to me. The walk in the woods sounded great. That's my refuge when I'm feeling the worst--- has been ever since I was a kid. If I can get out in the woods so that I don't see or hear another human being or any of our detritus, it does me a world of good. Not much left of what little woods we had here a few years ago though and no spare time at the moment either.
Please forgive my not responding to all that you've collectively had to say for the past couple of days. It's getting late and I have another long day ahead tomorrow and the last craft fair of the season on Saturday. I just have my fingers (and toes) crossed that we don't get any snow until after that and that DH actually manages to get the van inspected tomorrow so we'll be able to pack everything in for the fair.
Night all!
Morning all!! I cleaned the house yesterday and it looked so nice, but got up this morning and it looks like a whirlwind went thru it - rats, how can that happen with just two of us!!
Oh Maria has a male 'hitting' on her!!! LOL It was very thoughtful for him to help you tho. Sure was observant noticing both your boots and your nails and polish!! And you wash your slider HOW OFTEN? I do mine twice a year - that's a rule here!! We did our big picture window that is two stories up this summer and it is the first it has been done in over 5 yrs! But man oh man, did it look nice when it was done.
Counties west of us got a dumping of snow last night. Ours is only a couple of inches, but the wind chill is frigid. DH is filling up the woodstove before he leaves for work.
Defor - I use my heating pad daily - it stays right on my chair! It's my best friend!
IO1 - I have a dentist appt right before xmas - ugh - I just hate going there...Think anyone enjoys it?
Howdy to everyone else - I'm off to get me some breakfast (last yogurt!!) then going to watch the today program.
Morning all
sarv
You sound like us. Maybe you have a ghost in your house named Boo like we do? LOL When noone will own up to something (and there's only 2 of us) ... then Boo did it!
Yes indeed ... now that Maria has Samson maybe she'll get her an admirer, too.
Defoe, sure hope you feel better when you get up and out today.
Hi Julie ... have missed you.
Mary, sure hope you aren't snowed in and you will be able to get out and do all the chores needed without freezing to death.
Kelly, hope your day is busier today as I understand how they can drag a bit when things aren't hopping.
Carat, you go girl! :)
To everyone else that hasn't posted ... hi and hope you're feeling chipper today.
... Elaine
Defoe - Hope your back feels better today!
McCool- Hope your craft show goes well this weekend.
Sarv- With 3 males living in my house I sometimes wonder why I clean at all. Keeping the kitchen floor clean for more than a couple hours is almost impossible. And clutter, ugh!
Oh well, time to get my but moving a bit before I have to go to work. Have to walk next door and get DM's car to take to work today. I hope they get it done today. We could get bad weather during the next few days and I would rather have a vehicle that i am familiar with. The dealership said the would give me a loaner if it's not done today.
Have a good day all!
Good Morning, every one
SURPRISE, SURPRISE, guess who snucked in during the night without letting me know and and left the the same way? ERNIE! He must have shown Samson how to properly do his business like a male, LOL. As I let him out there he was like the clever boy he is applying the lesson he had, ;-)) I told you he was smart!
Sorry about your back, Defoe, I know how painful that can be. Scatica pain woke me up. it was awful down to my toes could hardly walk but threw balls for Samson, ouch, and it is much better now.
Sarv, sliders and windows are washed twice a year (I do not do it) but now with Samson have to wash them every day because his wet paws are every where.
McCool take a drive east and visit me, I have 20 acres to walk about, you willl hardly see a house in most of them, so hitch your horse and come along, stay overnight if you want!!!
Going to have some coffee now and a banana for breakfast
My oh my - Samson is now a MAN!! LOL That darn Ernie sure is sneaky....
Ouch - I've got that sinus stuff back....right side of the face is aching today and teeth too. If its not gone by Monday, I'm calling the doc this time.
Doesn't it seem like if it isn't one thing it's the other?? It drives my crazy when my MIL goes thru all her medical woes- and now I am sounding like her!! I need to stop it!
I can't figure out what I want to do today. I have the workout place at 9:30am, but don't feel like doing much of anything else. I could bake some cookies, but you know whose butt they would end up on!! Wrapping gifts doesn't sound like fun either...hmmm anyone have any fun ideas??
Good morning. Sarv, you could come out and go walking with me in the snow and bright sunshine, bundle up good, it's only 22 out there and a little breeze. Put on one of those ski masks to keep your face warm, sorry your sinus problem has flared up again. McCool, you come too. After our walk (with camera this time) we could repot some things in the greenhouse. Yesterday I did some of it but there is lots more.
Defoe, I hope your back is feeling better soon. My heat pad has a vibrator in it that just turns me to jello and is much more effective than heat alone. The downside of that is it is impossible to read at the same time.
What a smart doggie Samson is. And, Ernie, you are indeed sneaky!!
I'm down to 2 eggs but might make some cookies. Hubby was looking for pie or something last night before bedtime. I usually don't keep sweet stuff around, so if I do make any I will freeze most of them.
My horses are all looking toward the house trying to convince me they are starving. Time to go feed them.
Maria, I got a good chuckle at Ernie visiting overnight and teaching Samson how to hike a leg! Sorry about the sciatica pain... I bet you are really looking forward to the massage. They turn me to jello (or did years ago) but what a good feeling!
McCool, hope the craft show goes well.
Defoecat, sorry about the back pain.
suzieQ, hope you get your car back. I hate driving unfamiliar cars, never know how they might handle in a crisis. Plus, never know where all the buttons and controls are!
Carat, hope things are better at the new job today. New brooms are tough on both ends.
Missed some folks, catch you the next time (If I can remember, LOL)
Good, morn er afternoon to all. I have been so good today, I even went to look in the mirror to see if I had been replaced overnight!! Nope, still me. I purposely did not stop at the computer this morning. As you remember, I said I had a free day, and I am making the most of it. Haven't done much for me, but have slayed the laundry monster(5 loads), straightened the house, made turkey salad from the left overs last night, cleaned the laundry room, and DGD toy room, went to DM and did some chores for her, talked with a friend, paid some bills, played with Mr. B., did some prep work for supper, and then landed here. I did not mean that it would be an idle day, but a free one. Nothing on my calendar, which is very rare.
Thanks all for the words of comfort about the back. It does feel better this morning, but I still know that "it" is there. Woke early, with arm pain and the back, DH had set the alarm for 6:30, so went ahead and got up. DH is rabbit hunting with a friend today.
Marie, I laughed about Ernie sneaking in last night to give Samson his "male lesson". So glad to hear that he has grown up, and overnight too!! The walk in the woods sounds so good to me, however, I am going to give this back another day or two before I head out.
Mary, when it is so cold that I must bundle up, face mask and all, I elect to stay indoors. We have a pony and a horse, and it never fails, when DH goes to Florida in January, this pony, whose name is Rusty always finds a way to get out, and then I have to bundle up to go get him back in. Last year, on the very day DH left, Rusty got out. Do you think he was trying to go with him. Anyway, DH was gone for 2 weeks, and Rusty was out every day. On the second day, I walked the fence line, and found the place I thought he was getting out, fixed it, and thought I would have no more trouble with him. This is an electric fence with 2 strands of wire. The next morning, he was standing on my front porch. Scared the bejebers out of me, when I opend the door to go get the paper. So we do the "walk the fence" thing again. Didn't find anything wrong. So I watched him most of the morning, and that rascal lay down on the ground on his belly, and scooted under the fence. He has even gotten so good, that now he puts himself back into the pasture. Dang, I hate animals that are smarter than me!!
Sarv, sorry about the sinus again. Have you ever tried sniffing warm salt water. It really helps.
Susieq, since there is only the 2 of us here, I can't imagine any more male bodies in this house. I'm like Sarv, I can straighten, and in a couple of hours it is cluttered again. 101, is Boo loose? Or maybe he has brothers.
McCool, hope your craft fair goes well, and that your spirits begin to rise.
Carat, hope things go well for you today. It's tough to try to clean up someone else's mess.
Darius, had to ponder the broom analagy, but laughed when I got it.
GardenGeek, has today picked up any? Since I am a do something person, can't stand to be idle. Put up those Christmas decorations if nothing else.
I though about going out and decorating outside, but with the cost of electricity going up, the total of my outside decorating is the wreath on my door.
Well, my couch just shouted my name, so I will turn on the tv, and veg for awhile. Will catch up later.
Good Afternoon All,
Whew, first time I've had to actually sit down for more that 2 min. and check in here. Nice to have a busy day today. Just eating a quick lunch with one hand and typing with the other.
Not gonna take time to address each person, just popped in to say hi and hope everyones day is going well,,,those with aches and pains, I hope you get some relief, Glad Samson Know's he's a boy now,,,LOL hope the decorations are going up easily, if anyone is working on that today, those who do not know what to do,,,,come on over,,,my house needs a mother,,,LOL
Check in later,
Kelly
Here's my *HELLO* for the day! I'm busy (still!) sorting, tossing, and putting away. It sure is nice to know where all those important papers ARE for a change, instead of hunting through the piles of Important...semi important...absolutely unnecessary stuff. LOL I'm so proud of myself, I even managed to get through18 months worth of bank statements that needed to be punched and stored in looseleaf binders (for tax purposes, you know...hehehehe).
Maria...I'm not talking to everyone individually right now, but I absolutely could *not* help but laugh when I read that Ernie had sneaked in the house and taken Samson out for his "Male elimination" lesson! ROTFLOL (GOOD GOING ERNIE!!!)
:-D
Ok..it's back to the piles for me.
Y'all have a great day, ya hear! :-)
~julie~
julie,
Don't get too organized now,,,you'll go through trauma then,,,,LOL
Kelly
Cute! hehehehe
~julie~
Just came home from shopping with my daughter, bought some decoration she has to use with some greens for 13 tables at her quaker meeting house, since they are going to have a christmas feast.
Had Lunch , a wonderful lobster sandwich, glass of wine and pumpkin
chiffon pie, won't need anything to eat till tomorrow morning!
Defoe, what type of fence to you have? Mine is under ground, Samson does not know where it is, flags are about 5 feet outside of it, when he sees the flags he knows not to go any further or he will get a warning, should he get any closer he will receive a good bolt. I can cross the drive way he will not follow me.
Julie, I do that also, instead of taking care of it right away, hate to do desk jobs, talk about procrastinatiing.
Man, it's freezing here today. I've had the heating pad in my chair all day and have it in my lap at the computer. Windchill is nasty and the cold is a deep piercing one that freezes ya to the bone. Give me warm weather any day!!
I have one of those heating pad/vibrators. DH got it one year for xmas for me. I used it and got terribly sick with pneumonia- never got the darn thing out again. I know they are not related. Maybe I'll give it a try again. What I would really like is one of those things that fit over a chair and give you a massage - ahhhhh now that's a good feeling. Whenever I am shopping and I see one for sale, I plop in it and crank it on and moan....Maria = how was the massage??? Our health insurance ussed to cover 2 massages per month - darn, that's one reason I shouldn't have quit work!! (but the only one I can think of!)
Went up to my MIL for my Fri visit. I am limiting them to an hour and that seems to be working out. Just when she gets wound up to complain, it is time for me to leave!! Plus it is just after lunch and she is needing her nap.
I was going to treat DH to the Johnny Cash movie tonight, but when I mentioned it, he said 'oh, not tonight- I can't miss wrestling!!' == that is exactly why I wanted to go tonight!! Guess I will just hit the bed early tonight.
Sheesh Julie- stop being such a work-aholic! You're making me feel like a louse.
Defoe- you can't stand to do nothing-= come to my house- there's always something to be done. I have no trouble sitting in my chair and reading or dozing....
Sinus pain is gone - don't know what was going on. Just don't want to mess with that crappy stuff again!
Oprah is almost on, so I need to sign off....
Hello, I'm coming in for a visit. Did anybody see Oprah on Letterman last night. She looked great. What a lady.
Sun is shining here. Cold, but no wind.

Echoes, you are always Welcome!
Hi, I've been among the missing today, had some chores this morning and squeezed in a hair cut (by a real person not the dog groomer DD) and then had lunch with DIL. Ohhhhhh lobster sandwich, my mouth is watering! The best reason for living on the east coast!!! A real treat for midwesterners...and a rare one.
Next was the vet for Oskar. He's been having some problems breathing, so they did xrays and found he has a pneumothorax, which is life threatening. They aspirated a lot of air, but there may be a tumor pressing somewhere which is causing the air to develop around his lungs and heart. this is not good news. We'll be keeping a close watch on him, but I am not optimistic that we will be able to save him. this is breaking my heart. He's my "best boy". Now I can't type.
M5, I shall cry with you. Hard to contemplate losing a beloved furry friend.
l01 - I have always wonderd about the star thing as well. I felt silly when I first started in DG and needed an explanation of the abreviations like DH, etc.
Julie - Desk organizing is the worst. I wish DH would take over that job.
Maria - that lunch sounds yummi!
Sarv - Movies sounds much better than wrestling!
Only another hour here at the office. Lots to do tonight and tomorrow since I will be out all day Sunday. I hope to start some cookie baking tomorrow. I usually send a large box to work with DH. This year I will probably send some to work with DS and Stepson also. Of course I will put a plate out for all my DG friends as well. I'll let you know when they are done. Anybody have any favorites?
M5 - I'll say a prayer for your Oskar!
Welcome Echoes!
Maria, I wanna have lunch with you, LOL. Man, does that sound GOOD!
Gosh, Y'all have been quite for over an hour? Everyone either sick, or very busy??
Got my Radon test kits up today. They stay up 24 hours and then I send them off to the Lab. Sure will be glad to know if Radon has been a contributing factor to my lung problems. Takes 2-3 weeks after the kits are sent in.
Yuck, threw away a full unopened bottle of extra virgin olive oil tonight. Wanted some on my salad and it smelled "off" (rancid) after opening it. Guess that will teach me not to buy more than I can use in 60 days!
Lobster sandwiches are usually served in New England on a toasted hot dog roll filled with lots and lots of meat you can't even find the bread.
When you come for a visit, Darius, we shall have plenty of lobster
Every day you can bye fresh lobster around here, whether it is in the fish market at grocery store, always fresh from Maine, almost next door. They can be shipped to where ever you are , fresh!!! All you have to do is boil them and serve them with melted butter ;-) yum!
M5, so sorry about your Oskar, it always broke my heart when I lost one of our wonderful companion, hate to think how I would feel should something happen to Samson.
Have never heard of a pad/vibrater, have to look into this.
it is cold here too with strong very cold winds, brrrTold my daughter about the encounter I had yesterday, she laughed and said, Mom, you probably wore that secret smile you have sometimes, loI
I will bake some cookies too for my neighbors, they have been just wonderful to me all year.
Late afternoon here, hard to believe it will be dark in an hour.
Maria, I got my vibrating heat mat at a local discount store, DIL got one at Walmart. Some are fancier than others and priced accordingly. Mine is long enough to go from neck to below my knees, has 3 vibrator zones, 3 heat zones and hi and lo heat settings. Also a built in little pillow. Cost about $50 regular price but I got 20% off. I loaned it to my neighbor when he hurt his back and he used it 3 days and bought one like it.
Lobster sandwich, wow, that sounds yummy! I love lobster. Actually I haven't found any salt water seafood that I don't like. Have to keep trying.
I took a bunch of pictures when I was outside. Will post a few of them starting with the ones I took this morning from the porch in bathrobe and slippers.
What a photo with the horse in the distance just gorgous, Mary, but no wonder you went back in to the house ,
it looks c o l d
After I got back into the house this afternoon there was a red fox in the neighbor's field hunting mice. I sneaked out on to the front porch with my camera. Because of the distance you can't really see the fox very well, he will show up as a spot just above the wire fence just to the right of the center of the picture. You'll just have to take my word for it, it really is a fox. See him?
I love the Red Fox... so wonderful looking.
yes, I see him!
