Yippeeeee!!

Thanks dave :)

Do we have to pick just one in each category, or all we like? Working on the bugs one and whoa baby there are a bunch of nice ones. You are gonna need to do 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th.......and lots of runners up in there I fear. If I've gotta pick just one bird, one bee, one bug.....it's gonna take forever. How long do we have?

Pick all the ones you like. In the end, the pictures with the most votes win.

How long will the voting booth be open? This could take a while... :-)

Gulfport, MS(Zone 8a)

Wow, tons of photos to go through!!

Question tho, is it possible, that once we have voted, to take the register vote button away?
The reason i ask is there is no way that i can complete it all at one sitting. I'm not organized enough to remember which ones i've done and it wouldnt be fair to vote 2x.
Might be too much to ask, the simple thing would be for me to just write it down, but then i'd forget where i put the list.
Jen

p.s.
awesome that you didnt list the submitters name. it takes away votes by popularity.

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

I started going through the pictures this morning, and I think I know how I am going to be spending my day! My husband got tire of my calling him over to look at the pictures every 5 minutes, so went off to do some chores. It's really hard to choose when one awesome picture after another is there to pick from. Win or lose, it's just wonderful to see all these lovely pictures!

The voting will continue for quite some time - at least 2 weeks. I'll give warning before it's over.

No worry about voting multiple times - you can't do that. All you can do is go back and change your vote again. When you submit your votes and then go back to that page, it will automatically fill in the ballet with the decisions you previously made. That way, you can do voting whenever it's convenient for you, and then come back and do more in the same category later.

Dave

Gee Dave, after bugging my eyes out with lots of great pictures to choose from, I'm thinking ahead to next year with a question? Can your web site take on the massive beauty in the form of wonderful garden pictures that will surely be entered in 2006. After all is said and done will you be opening up a suggestion forum to discuss next years contest? I, as well as others, will have questions for this awesomely fun event at Daves Garden. Have a great day! Frog & Butterfly

Gulfport, MS(Zone 8a)

k, thanks!

There are some pretty awesome photos!

Oro Valley, AZ(Zone 9a)

Hi Dave,

Would it be practical, or is it too late to suggest numbering the photos in each contest from 1 to 426?

We can then jot down the number of the photo(s) and easily find it / them (to either come back to or compare with other photos).

It would make judging so much easier than if we simply guess where a certain photo may be in the line up.
Thanks for considering the suggestion.

I've just got to make a comment here, that these are some of the most awesome photos. Such amazing diversity, so many great gardening ideas, so many wonderful images.
For next year I would like to see a way to leave short comments about the photo that could be viewed after all the judging was done. Nice comments of course, or constructive ones that are still nice. There are so many where I want to say "what awesome use of color", or "what great use of ___________", but don't necessarily want to vote for that picture.
I would also like to see 'Best Formal Garden' and 'Best Informal Garden' added to the landscaping categories.
This is so much fun though......back to clicking.......mich

Two weeks...guess I should have read Dave's comment before I started voting. Half the day is gone and my eyes are falling out! LOL! There were a couple categories I didn't feel I should vote in because I'm not an expert. For instance, brugs and daylilies... don't know much about them. That brings me to a question... are we judging the photography or the subject matter?

Bartlesville, OK(Zone 6a)

Gonna take a long time for me. I am on dialup and it takes forever to enlarge the picture. Not complaining, and not your fault.

I have voted on one picture so far. LOL and that was in the DG t-shirt category. easiest one!!

There are such wonderful pictures, I don't know how I am going to vote for them.

Thanks for the fun!

Weezingreens,

Dave said in the other thread that it's the photography. So it doesn't matter if you're an expert about a particular flower type or whatever, you still know what photographs look good to you, which ones capture something special.

Cramlington, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

This is so much fun! I'm really enjoying going through all the categories and I'm trying to judge the photos, not the plants :)

Great effort everyone - and thanks to the DG staff for organising all this.

I feel like a small child in a Large Candy Store.
Wow
What a load of sweets everyone has contributed and shared with us. So many wonderful photos to choose from. I feel for those who have dial up and can't view them quickly.

Thank You Dave.
Thank You all for sharing your talents.

Ahh Gee Margie
So SWEET of you!!
Thanks for thinking of me. Great picture!!
Well I'm about to turn myself loose again at the photos.

Dave,
Since I am not familiar with brugs/daturas but definitely note their beauty (not wanting to start a war; that's why I'm asking you) in the photo contest, it would be very helpful if those who submitted their entires would have designated them specifically as brugs or daturas. Since I am unable to tell which is which, I am unable to vote on those specific ones. Maybe I am missing something or maybe I should get busy and learn the diffference. :) I have been voting for hours and thoroughly enjoying it.
Thanks a lot.

As a voter, I'd just like to say that this is absolute torture! Hundreds of gorgeous photos of fabulous flowers, and I only get to pick 2 or 3? I just finished Dahlias. That was the worst - all those wonderful pics, and I could only chose 1! Ouch! It's like being a kid in a candy store, only you can only have 1 piece of candy. I can narrow it down to 5 or 10 at best! My compliments to all of the photographers on DG.

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

Scutler, now I'm wondering if I misunderstood? I thought we could vote for all the pictures we liked per catagory, and they would all count, with the winner being the one that got the most votes. I hope we get a clarification on this, because that's the way I've been voting.

There's some catagories that there's no way I could ever remember all the photos, and then go back and choose my favorite. I pick the ones I like while viewing them, and assumed there was a counter working behind the scenes.

Kerrville, TX(Zone 8a)

Joan,
I, too, am voting for numerous entries in the same category. It's impossible to go back and re-judge all the entries. Only the ones that are marked are counted, and I'm sure there is an automatic counter. I may only leave a slight few without a check. It would be impossible for me to make only one or two votes with all these beauties. This voting is better than a party. I bet you know exactly where Flasher, N.D. is located. My future daughter-in-law grew up there. What's your temp there now?
carol

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

Carol, Yep, I know where Flasher is, but it's not very close to me. It's -4 degrees here right now. This morning it was -8 when we got up. Brrr...

Kerrville, TX(Zone 8a)

Joan,
Oh, no, minus four -- The low here tonight is suppose to be only 34, and I'm shivering as is. But, it's amazing to me how everyone in the northern states seem to have the most beautiful gardens and so little warm time to maintain them. Our temps rarely ever get below 18 degrees. Of course I live on the Gulf Coast and the water temp has a lot to do with maintaining warmer temperatures in the winter. But, we suffer in the summers with mid to high 90's and many times 100.
Continued happy gardening,
carol

I cannot figure out how to judge floribunda roses, as there is no sub-category for them nor Grandifloras. I ended up judging the floribundas in the "shrub rose" sub-category.

Everson, WA(Zone 8a)

I keep getting the 'Virtual Memory Low' error message when I am trying to vote. How can I correct this? Thanks in advance for help.....

Chicago, IL(Zone 5b)

May I make a suggestion for next year? I hope so because here it goes.....

Could we have the pictures posted larger so it is not necessary to click on them for a better view and also to have them on a slide show format, like the plant files, with the voting underneath each picture?

Hap

Conroe, TX(Zone 9a)

Oooh, great idea!

Those are great ideas - we'll see!

best,
