Maybe a silly question, but if Im looking for threads written on any given plant/subject and I use the Search Forums blank in the upper right (just below the date and time) nothing happens. Am I doing it wrong or does it just not work?

How do you use Search Forums blank In upper right?
You need to hit the "Enter" key after placing your search term(s) in the Search Forums box. :)
It's time to add a button saying "Go", "Enter" or "Search".
Did it really have to be that simple. Now I feel like a retard!
I've sat in front of the screen many times waiting for something to happen that I thought I had started... and still do, occasionally. LOL at me! :)
WE WANT A BUTTON!
WE WANT A BUTTON!
WE WANT A BUTTON!
LOL Heavinscent, you're not the first to ask this question. ;-)
Go Ulrich, go Ulrich!
There should be a dummy button!
~Also I glad Im not the only one ;o)
Dave just loves to let us sweat a bit , but being a good guy he'll come around sooner or later.
Cheers!
Thanks for asking...now I know too.
Even if we don't get a button, maybe they could add below it "Hit Enter"?
That is the only 'search box' I've ever seem like that.

Another problem with the Search Forums box: If you want to find a particular member, you might not be able to do so. For example:
Question: "I know [membername] said something about that narcissus the other day, but where was it?"
Answer: You should be able to use the Search Forums box for that member's name and get all of that member's posts, shouldn't you? Wrong!!! If you try, you will not get ALL of the threads in which that member posted. You'll get those threads where that member is MENTIONED in the text of the thread, not where the member only POSTED to the thread.
I would like to be able get a list of ALL threads where the member posted. Does anyone know how to do this?
Thanks for any help.
Marilyn
Oh Oh I know that one (hand raised) to find the threads listed or that members replys you can click on the member's name. The same way you send a dmail or check out their journal.
I hope that helps Mairlyn.
~Caren
Oh, stop it, Horschak!! LOL {{{{{GRIN}}}}}
Good guess, but you're only partially correct. That will allow you to view the threads the member has STARTED, but not the ones to which the member has POSTED. I also want the ones to which the member has posted.
Marilyn
Caren, you might be seeing the link on your own homepage that allows you to view the posts you have made, but it isn't available to anyone but you.....and theirs to them.
LOL, I'm a newbie here..........laughing at your replies as I'm fumbling around on here trying to see if anyone has replied to my first post. LOL Can't even find it!!! I, too, sat staring at the search window looking for a button.
Kristy
duh........*now what did that one guy say about refreshing* hmm
Welcome to DG, Kristy! I have found the "Home" tab to be...well....home! LOL I always go there after viewing one of my watched threads. Maybe you know this already, but you can "watch" threads by clicking "watch thread" right above the first post in a thread. That way if a new post is made to a thread you are interested in, it will come up on your home page for you to see that there is a new post.
Mendy :-)
But if she didn't "watch" this thread, how is she going to find this out? LOL :>)
Marilyn
Hmmmm.....I never thought of that! LOL
LOL.........You guys crack me up. Not sure how I got back here.........*should drop bread crumbs this time*
I had asked a question and subscribed a few days ago. Now I don't know where it is.
It's about my Pleomele
any advice
Kristy
Did you start a new thread or ask the question on an existing one?
Dear New Friends,
I'm off to search for my Pleomele post. If I'm not back in twenty minutes send for help.
kristy
Did I start a new thread or answer an existing one? I don't know what I did. It was late!!!! LOL
Kristy come back! LOL Click on the tab at the top of the page that says "my info." If you started a new thread, click on the link that says View threads Lewellyn has started. If you posted on an existing thread, click on the link that says "view the posts you have made."
It had to have been an existing thread because I went to your page and saw that you haven't started any threads.....yet. LOL
Here's a prime example of my problem. If I want to find the thread to which Lewellyn posted, I can't search for it using her name. She can search via "View the posts I have made" on her "My Info" page, but I can't.
Marilyn
*pant,pant,pant*
I'm back. Wow what a trek! Thanks mgh. You're a good detective. Is Dave's Garden mostly about outdoor plants?
Kristy
It's about outdoor plants, indoor plants, pets, wildlife, collectibles, and almost anything else you can think of that's home or garden related. Click on the "Forum" tab to see what's available. You can personalize your DG home page any way you want. Even after a couple of years I'm still tweaking mine.
Did you take the Dave's Garden Tour to familiarize yourself with DG?
Marilyn
Marilyn I'm one of those horrible type A people who won't take the time to read instructions, tutorials etc... Looks like I better make an exception this time huh? You all are so sweet and helpful!!
Thanks
kristy
Lewellyn, Click on the forum tab (on top of each page) and you will find the list of forums, (house plants, african violets among then).
Heavinscent, I asked the same question a month ago.
Dave
I hear ya, Marilyn. :-) I would like that link to be available to others too.....instead of having to search for posts. I tweak mine a lot too....I'm always adding or deleting a forum or two.
I never did take that tour either.....maybe I should? LOL There are some forums for just chatting too.....Parking Lot, General Discussion, Jokes and Chat. Don't forget about the Chat Room on Tuesdays and Thursdays......I never seem to find the time to be for very long though.
Mendy
If I was only quicker at finding my way around!
Anyway, here is proof you are not alone Heavinscent
http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/538289/
It's just so great to see that I'm not alone!! HEHEHEHEHEHE :>)
ROTFLMBO!! Love it, Ulrich!
Wow, that was quick. I doubted anyone would see this after such a long lapse.
Thanks.
Merry Christmas.
It was still on my watch list because I never did get an answer to my question. LOL
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you, too!
Marilyn, to search for a particular word or phrase, plus a username and/or a forum, you should start with the key word in the search box. After the results for that word are displayed, you can refine your search to a particular forum or to username, or both.
Terry:
I know that's how it's SUPPOSED to work, but it DOESN'T when it comes to a DGer's name. If a person's name is in a thread only because they POSTED to that thread it doesn't show up. For example, if I think, "what was it that [person's name] said recently about dahlias?" then I should be able to search for that person's name and get EVERYTHING they've ever posted. Let me tell you, you don't. For example, if I went to "Search forums" and typed in "chemocurl" (one of the DGers who posted here), THIS thread would NOT show up on the list. In addition, if you put chemocurl's name in the "Show only posts by the following user" box, her post to this thread doesn't show up; in fact, absolutely NO threads are listed. It's as if she doesn't exist. And this is true of ANY user name you want to choose.
Hmmm...how weird. I typed my name in and it brought up just about any mention of my name in gazillions of threads.
I'm using Mozilla browser, not IE. I wonder if that has any bearing on it.
