Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Sounds like good news for most.

Darius, a cheque is in the mail - half way between the 2 figures I mentioned in my D-mail. We'll get that for Elaine!

Just got home from the Food Cupboard. Took a few hours off in the middle of the day as I can't deal with the files and the referrals when it's open. then went back for another 4 hours. Faxed off 23 referrals to the Christmas Exchange and 2 to the Snowsuit Fund. Entered the files into the computer and did month-end stats. Looks like we provided food for 2111 people in November, about half kids. It's a 4-day supply.

Better get some dinner, practice and arrange music in my handbell books so they are ready for rehearsal tomorrow.

Rehearsal for bells will start an hour later than usual. When I had my small viola made a bit over a year ago, I had a really lovely award- winning instrument that I couldn't bear to part with at first. Eventually, I decided that I really wouldn't return to playing the bigger instrument and rather than go through the hassle and potential risks (or paying a large commission to a shop) of selling it, I donated it to the music school at the University of Ottawa. We got a significant tax receipt and I will get to see and hear it on occasion. Tomorrow is the most significant occasion to date. There is the launch of an endowment fund in the name of a long-time accompanist (and teacher of accompanying) at the music school and they are going to feature my viola gift as well. I look forward to hearing it.

Gotta go. Will check in again before I go to bed.

Good Evening GOB's. This is the first time I have checked in today. So glad to hear that M5 and Darius tests are "behind" them and both got good results. I will need the colonoscopy but will do that after the holidays. They found polyps the last time, so need to follow up. Today was "grocery" day, and I spent 5 hours doing that and Wally World. Shopped for DM, DMIL, and me. It just wears me out. God knows that I hate grocery shopping, so he just gave me 2 more people to shop for so that I could have a lesson in patience!! Had a minister one time who said a woman prayed for patience and the Lord gave her 10 kids. Believe me, I have never prayed for that particular virtue again!!

Wanted to comment on the bad weather west of here. Ya know it's coming, so why are we never prepared? Our forecast includes the s word for the weekend.

Garden Geek, don't let anyone shame you into drying those tears. I too have shed many, as I think the effort for Elaine is the greatest. I cried tonight when I tried to tell DH what great people you all are.

Elaine (it's hard to call you that) i liked your explanation about cooking. I just can't imagine not being able to "see" the golden brown, or such cooking terms. Hadn't realized that most instructions are for those with sight. And how do you know when the floor is dirty/clean? If I couldn't see mine, it is no telling what it would look like. And do you have separate hampers for whites and colors? I can just image my laundry if some system to separate them was not in place. DH did have pink underwear one time!! LOL., and I can see.

Sarv, that arm thing sure is the pits. After running the vacuum for 3 hours yesterday, mine was killing me last night. DH said why didn't you use the other arm? Well I did, do you know how many times you can switch hands in three hours?

And who had the headache? I used to have them so bad and so often, that I lived on pain relievers. Been there done that. Don't want to do it again.

Now is everybody feeling much more in the Christmas spirit? I am in a way, but my trip to Gatliinburg, Tn. next week to finish shopping was cancelled tonight. DS and DBIL were going with us, and DS called tonight and DBIL's mother is in hospital with pneumonia, plus a blood clot, and she has been in a nursing home for 4 years, and they suspect that she has had a stroke, and children are faced with decision about whether to allow feeding tube. So under the circumstances, he does not feel comfortable with going away, and I don't blame him. So will have to shop locally, and I have only bought 3 gifts. Do you all know where I will be next week? Me and shopping malls do not get along well at all. So, one day next week will hit the malls, but fortified with nerve pills before.

Well I am off to bed, as I did not have a good night last night, and hope to do better tonight.

Night all, sleep well.

defoe ~I value my eyesight greatly and can't imagine being able to do much without it, but honestly I can tell when my floor is dirty by the feel....on my floor, first comes sticky, then it gets furry. It's pretty predictable.

I once prayed for the patience to stop yelling at my kids and I woke up with laryngitis. It made me happy because I knew God was chuckling at me.

MaryE I can't believe it's so cold there!

dmc, this past summer I was in town, and the car wouldn't start. Waited several minutes and tried again. It started, but didn't sound right. I said " Lord just get me home". When I pulled in the drive way, the car died, and has not started since. So I got what I prayed for, and only that. So the saying "be careful what you wish/pray for, you just might get it" comes to my mind. Ain't it glorious that we have someone who always watches over us?

Good night all.

Woodspirit, we live in a house with only a wood stove for heat. It is centrally located in the living room, has a metal stovepipe that goes straight up through the ceeling, and the whole front of it opens up to put the wood in. It does a good job of heating the house. We cut our firewood in the nearby national forest, salvaging dead trees which is nice for us because it is already dry. I have done some cooking on the wood stove although it wasn't designed for that. The top is flat so I can cook a pot of beans on it or just heat water. The drawback is that when we want to take a trip in the winter we have to have somebody come in to build the fire every day to keep the pipes from freezing. On the other hand, power outages don't effect us too much since I can cook simple things on it and we do keep warm.

Going to bed but first doing the Happy Dance~~~for me, Darius, no headache GOBs or GOBettes, a good night's sleep for those who needed it, dogs learning to behave, good thoughts for those who have family members ill, and HUGS all around for all the wonderful people here who can make dreams come true.

Yeah for all the good test results.

I avm in awe of all of you on this board. In less then 24 hours we have made a dream come true for an angel. Gosh imagine what we could do if we all ran the country... LOL

Well, just got back from soaking my bod and getting my pj's on.
ginni, I'm not sure where all your extra hangers come from ... but maybe you have mine? They're always disappearing!LOL When I wash and go to hang up clothes, I can never find enough hangers. Go figure. They WERE hanging up!
Defoe, I just take off my shoes. No problem knowing when those floors are dirty. ;)
I hope everyone has a good night's sleep tonight. You all deserve sweet dreams. I know I'll be dreaming about good friends.
nightnight ... Elaine .
