If you are reading this on Wednesday, I'm still in Tuesday, have a splitting headache, can't take aspirin, don't want Tylenol on an empty stomach, have visited the you know where at least five times, I'm starving and I could bite the head off a porcupine and eat it, and it will be at least another 14 hours before food passes my lips. whine whine whine whine. And after midnight I can't even have water. All because my grandma and my dad both had colon cancer. In the states they recommend it after age 50 and then every five years unless they find something.

I'm done whining now. But I'm cold so I'm going to bed, hopefully I will stay there.

Central, WI(Zone 4a)

meezer,

I feel so bad for you,,,,hang in there though,,, you should be on the home stretch by now. Just remember to give Grandma and Dad a big sarcastic Thanks A Lot after this is over with,,,LOL I know it's not a laughing matter, just wanted to hopefully lighten it up a little for you.

Kelly

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

m5 - you have my sympathy. Whine all you want. And if you can't sleep because you're hungry, get up and watch TV - it might take your mind off yourself a little bit. Good luck.

Ann

And good night to all of you. Didn't get any practicing done, but I've made a good dent in putting together the CVS newsletter which is about a month overdue.

Marysville, WA(Zone 7a)

Hey Meezer, can't you tell 'em to do a sigmoidoscopy instead ? It's only half as long. lol Been through 'em both more than once, not as bad as some of the procedures. Sending you tons of sympathy, hope everything turns out alright.

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

Meezer, will be thinking of you and wishing you good results

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

I came to the computer to turn it off...but checked the 30th daily instead.

Sheila, it hasn't been so long ago that I had to go through the "up" and the "down" oscopies on the same day. I know all about the "Go litely"...and everything else you've going through right now. Sweetie...I feel for you, big time! I'd much rather go through it *for you.* Mainly because I know how *good* it feels when it's over. Like Robert, I've been there and done that more than once. Somehow we manage to survive...and BOY do we EAT afterward! (Ok...so *I* do! Can't speak for Robert. LOL)

Hang in there! Just think 24 hours from now, it'll all be behind you.

~julie~

Well, that was going to be MY line, Julie! :) You know the one ... Hey Meezer, I'll be glad when it's all "behind" you. LOL ;) Okay, on a serious note now ... I'm saying prayers for you and for good test results.
Okay, I REALLY am off to bed now. nightnight. ... Elaine

Vegas,NV Filbert, SC(Zone 7b)

M5, I know it doesn't really help but I have been there too, and you will be relieved you did it once the tests come back clear. Thinking of you.

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

M5- just think of the weight you'll drop from not eating!! Hang in there girl!!

I had one of the worse nights in a long time (that's what I get for saying I 'was' sleeping better" I spent the night going from one hot flash to another - I told DH when I got up this morning that I felt like I was on fire - he felt my cheeks and said I was burning up. My lips are all parched and cracking (along with the heels since I quit putting on footcream!)

We are having freezing rain outside and I have to drive 60 miles to clean and I have to do it as it has been 6 weeks. Oh woe is me....and my arm is really giving me fits!! Gimme an aleve pronto!!

Think I'll have a normal breakfast- oatmeal!! Then stopping for a cappiccino on my way to clean - that will make me happy I think!

Not much more of news here....gonna sign of and get the heating pad out

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Good morning,

Am I really the first this monring? (other than the night-owls)

Hope the tests go OK for M5.

Just heard from DH. He's gotten the travel health insurance company to take responsibility for paying his medical bills in Germany - at least for now. They will likely claim much of it back from our provincial health insurance and our supplementary helath insurance, and possibly some from us in the end, but at least we don't have to worry about large money transfers. And his flight (which would have been today) has been rebooked for the same time on Friday. That will possibly give him some time to do a bit of shopping in Frankfurt. (This time of year he'll be able to find candles for the Christmas pyramid we bought when we spent a year in Germany nearly 30 years ago. I tried to find them in Frankfurt in June a few years ago and people looked at you like you had rocks in your head when you asked for "Weinachts Pyramid Kerzen" at that time of year.)

The Canadian Government fell on Tuesday evening which means that we have a federal election on January 23. Yuck. Can we live through the rhetoric till then? (It's also the same day as the next Ottawa Symphony concert which won't help build the audience).

In the last 18 or so months of minority government, they've behaved worse than school kids. I'm not even sure I'll vote this time which would be a first, but I live in as secure a Liberal riding as one can get. Last election the incumbent got more than twice the votes of any of his opponents and he's a jerk. (I know - he rented the house next door to me for a year in the early 90's - before he ran for office). But he's a Francophone Liberal which is what it takes to win in this riding.

If the early polls are to believed, we'll elect another Liberal minority government and then they'll all act like children again and we'll be going through it all again in another year or so. A lot of people are really fed up.

Well, better stop grousing and have breakfast and get to work.

Have a good day everyone.

Ann

Well, I WAS the first when I started the thread above. Closed the Internet connection when DH called. ;-)

Morning All,
I have a headach!

Kelly

Good morning y'all
M5 am saying special prayers for you today. Hope those nasty test go okay. Just know we're all thinking about you.
Sarv, so sorry you had such a rotten night. I can sure feel for you with those hot flashes, though. I have them something terrible. Won't let the doc take my patch away. I know ... from everything I've read, I'm just prolonging it, but I'm like you ... I REALLY suffer!
Ann, so good to hear the insurance company is going to take responsibility for paying your DH's medical bills and his flight schedule has been rescheduled.
Kelly, so sorry to hear you have a headache this morning. Hope you get to feeling better as the day wears on. I've got a fresh pot of coffee on and there's more of the cranberry cake and the cheesecake. They're both getting me into trouble, so just help yourself.
Hope everyone has a good day. ... Elaine

Good Luck,,,,,we'll be thinking of you, Praying for you and waiting to hear from you.

Kelly

Darius, you'll be in all our thoughts and prayers today. Be careful out there on the road.
Kelly, glad to hear your headache is better. Please be careful popping those pills, though. :)
Sarv, wish I could drive for you so you could rest your arm. Driving probably isn't the best thing for it ... but then neither would me doing the driving. LOL
Okay, I'm off to tackle the laundry monster and then I get to go play in the kitchen. My DH wants homemade meatballs and marinara for supper. Will check back in a bit.
... Elaine

Central, WI(Zone 4a)

mmmmm, what time are we eating????? LOL

Bloomingdale, OH(Zone 6a)

Morning!

Elaine, is your laundry monster related to mine? I picture him about 8 feet tall, 4 feet wide, fuzzy light blue fur with red and pink spots, and mismatched socks for horns and a few used dryer sheets stuck to his butt with static cling for his tail. Oh yeah, and a bleached out streak running across his back, lol. I think he has a girlfriend down there too, but I haven't seen her yet, I think she hides in the dryer and eats socks. There has to be a logical reason for the amount of dirty clothes piled all over, so I choose to think they are having laundry pile babies at an alarming rate. So far, Tide is not an effective form of Birth Control for Laundry Monsters!!

Well, I have a kid home sick today, eww. Nathan woke up about 5 this morning with a sore throat and a 102.4* temp. He says his throat feels like he swallowed a cactus, pretty good description I think, poor kid. I know he is really not feeling well, he is asleep on the love-seat and didn't even want to play video games! He will be 15 next week, he LIVES for video games, rofl. I guess I need to dig that chicken carcass out of the freezer and make some soup.

We are supposed to get 2-4 inches by tomorrow morning so I better get moving, I need to make a grocery run. We go through 6-8 gallons of milk a week, but I can only fit 3 at a time in my fridge. We are supposed to get more snow Thurs and Friday too, sigh. Looks like I can't ignore winter anymore, lol, time to hibernate!!

Stay warm!
mg

Central, WI(Zone 4a)

mg,
Sorry to hear Nathan is sick,,,poor kid,,,you know they are really sick when they don't even wat to play video games,,,, Soups a good idea *git er done*,,,,I think I have seen such laundry monsters lurking around my laundry room too,,,,,,mine eat underware also,,Hate them. Wow, 6-8 gallons,,,that's a lot of milk,,,Bill goes through 2 or 3 himself ,,,he loves milk,,,I don't think I have had milk since I was a few months old and my Mom quit nursing,,,LOL

Try to have a good day.

Kelly

Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)

Good morning. To those of you with headaches and other aches, you have my sympathies and prayers. And for M5 and Darius, I hope your tests show good results for all the inconvenience, hunger pangs, other unpleasantries and long drive to get them, etc.

The official weather report (at our local airport about 15 miles away and in a valley) says it is 6 degrees with enough wind to make the wind chill a -5. Surprisingly, we have no wind here this morning and our thermometer says 15. We are on a hill so the cold air drains into the valleys, that's often handy when gardening season rolls around, those in the valleys often loose things when I don't get any frost.

This morning I thought of 2 other places I should have checked yesterday for amaryllis and paperwhite bulbs. They are stores where I seldom shop so didn't even think of them, off my usual routes for one thing. If I can get my DH to take us to breakfast on Saturday I can check them quickly then. We haven't been out to breakfast in a couple of weeks, the first week he was down with a cold and last weekend we had a housefull of people.

I see that regular unleaded gas is down to $2.33.9 in town. I know that is still above the national average but it looks good to us. We get a bulk delivery but now the gas in our tank cost us more than what the town price is, so we're buying it in town. If the price takes another big jump we will go back to the bulk tank, and we always have it for those times when we don't have enough gas to drive to town. It's one of those great things about living on a farm. The not so great part is the price to fill the farm tank. Ouch!! It's like filling up a big motor home or something but OTOH it only happens once a month.

It's time to stoke up the fire, get dressed, feed my poor starving horses and take the dog some warm water. See you later.

MG, that's definitely my laundry monster's kin folk LOL! Hmmm, yours eats socks, too? Hey Kelly ... you must have his cuz as undies disappear also. Can somebody please tell me where they go? I mean ... I'm the only one around here doing the laundry ... and I CERTAINLY don't eat them! :)
Mary, I always enjoy reading your post. You have a way of bringing me back down to earth. I just *thought* it was cold here today. I absolutely love horses. Please give em a gentle pat for me and maybe an apple or whatever they enjoy for a treat. Ooooh, I can still feel those gentle nudges and hear the snuffles of "Smoky" when we gave him apples. Good memories! Am glad to hear your DH is feeling better.
Kelly, you should have time to get here for supper. We usually don't eat until around 7:00. Sometimes it's later, so we can hold it a bit. :)

Central, WI(Zone 4a)

Elaine,
LOL Ooooooo, I wish I could.

Kelly

Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)

Elaine, I was thinking that cooking must be a tricky thing for you. For instance, how do you tell what "golden brown" is? I've heard that a person can tell when scrambled eggs are done by the sounds they make, a sizzle instead of silent, or some popping noises. I can tell when my hot chocolate is starting to boil over in a cup in the microwave before it goes over the edges and makes a big mess because the microwave makes a different sound, sort of a lower pitched hum. So, tell us how you "see" that your food is cooked. Do you rely a lot on your sense of smell? That would be tough when you have a cold.

Meatballs and marinara, oh boy, that sounds like something I need to put on my dinner idea list. Thanks for the idea. Last night we had fried chicken so I could make more gravy to use on the leftover dressing. We ate the last of the candied yams and a considerable amount of cranberry sauce that has chopped oranges in it. Our friend made it, I have to get the recipe, it is soooooo good. She starts with a bag of fresh cranberries. I was busy making something else and didn't watch. She also spiked it with some orange liqueur!

The sun is out, it's so pretty on the snow, almost too bright to look at. The temperature is up to 24 and the sunny sides of the roofs are dripping. When I go out again I'll take some treats to the horses. I need to put the insulation boards over the greenhouse intake vents and roll some straw bales into place to hold them up. The exit vent is wired shut because when the north wind blows it flaps and lets out the heat from the furnace that is directly below it, and the insulation for it requires a ladder, might do that too, it depends on how cold my fingers get. I have some amaryllis in the greenhouse to repot so that maybe they will bloom this winter, and the dahlias that are still in boxes in the shop need to be labeled and put into peatmoss for the winter. First I have to get the laundry hung up by the fire. Always something to do.

oooh, amaryllis were one of my Grandma's fav flowers. Don't they have real big blooms?
Yes, I depend on my smell and hearing a lot. Oh, and don't forget the *tasting* LOL. :) I've practically eaten a meal before I sit down. hehehe Foods sound very different when they cook and also have a different touch. I time everything. Yep, the timer talks, too. ;) I've been doing it so long ... it's second nature. Don't think about it.
Try to get that recipe, please. I have fresh cranberries in the freezer, and that sounds to die for.
Hugs ... Elaine

Afternoon everyone- back from the cleaning job, lunch with my poor neice/kids, and delivering stinky laundry to my aunts. And I am pooped!!!! The roads were ok all the way out to my cousins, until I reached the last turn and I slid right thru the intersection. Thank goodness it is way out in the country and is on a seldom used road. My heart was going a mile a minute tho!!

Everytime I am there I thank my lucky stars for what I have. He is such a sad case.

Got home and DH was making swiss steak - he knew I spent a rough night and decided he would cook (I did the dishes tho!! ) I just want to get my jammies on and read for a bit.

My new DIL send me a thank you for having TG - a very nice gesture. She can be very thoughtful.

Mary, I just filled up my car for $2.03. I still don't understand why the prices vary so much. We haven't received our first heating bill - they say it will be a real shocker. I did get our tax bill today tho - merry christmas!!

Sorry for the sick kids etc. I'm off for a rest....

Central, WI(Zone 4a)

sarv,

Glad you made it around o.k. today. TY was a very nice gesture from DIL,,,ooo points for the DIL,,,LOL,,,,,2.03,,,that's great,,wish it would come down to that around here,,were still at 2.20 - 2.24. I am on budget billing and they just bumped my monthly payment from $86.00 to $133.00 Merry Christmas to me,,,don't have my Property Taxes yet,,,,the city of Owen is kind enough to send those out the week of Christams week,,,,nice huh???

edited to add,,,,DH,,,what a honey,,,cooking dinner, enjoy your jammie jams reading night,,,LOL

M5 I hope the tests are over and you are home with clear results. Same goes for Darius.

MG, eeewww, sick kid already? I am hoping that if the kids have to get sick this year they do it after the holidays.

Well I start work tomorrow morning at 6:30am. I am excited and nervous at the same time. I hate walking into a new office where they really dont want a new supervisor telling them what to do. And they all know the only reason I am there is because they don't have a clue and I am needed to straighten things out.

Casey

Starkville, MS

Cranberry relish - 1 bag fresh cranberries (I recommend freezing them to reduce the mess when chopping them) 1 or 2 oranges , peeled close (very little white left on), 1 or 2 pieces of orange peel, 1 small can crushed pineapple 3/4 cup sugar. I use a food processer for the cranberries and oranges. Mix it all up and adjust sugar to taste. The original recipe called for 1 cup of sugar but it was a bit much for me. You can add chopped apples and pecans, too. If you don't have apples in it, it freezes well - I make a big batch before Thanksgiving and freeze some for Christmas. (the apples don't freeze well, but can be added after thawing.)

I opened a closet door one day and I made a disturbing discovery. The laundry monsters were hiding in there playing "games" with the clothes hangers!!! I now have a gazillion hangers, but nothing to hang on them!!!

Well, back to clean up the mess I made today while cleaning up for company. Why do I decide to rearrange the furniture two days before someone is due to visit?!

Good health to those who are under the weather and ((hugs)) to all.
ginni

Phoenix, MD(Zone 7a)

Carat best of luck you will be fine!!!!!!! Straightening out things is what we do best LOL

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Thanks to all of you for your good thoughts and kind words. I'm feeling fine, test results were great, so no rerun for four years! The worst part was the fasting from Monday night to Wed. a.m. and having to go grocery shopping on Tuesday with my stomach growling....and having a no-food headache and feeling cold. (So where's a hot flash when you need one?) On the bright side, I didn't feel a thing!

The Surg. Center has a great staff with good natured nurses, and you do not spend a minute wondering what's next because they tell you every step of the way. The doctor was very pleasant too, but I wonder why anybody chooses that particular specialty? I used to date med students and they would have long intense discussions about specialties, deciding which would have fewer night calls or emergency visits. LOL

DH dropped me off, and my DD stayed with me the whole time. Came home and had a nice lunch, took a cozy nap, got up, ate some ice cream, and lounged on the couch with two of the cats.

Managed to get a check off to Darius, and finished two loads of laundry!! Laundry Monster must have been lurking while I was in lala land, mine throws clean socks behind the dryer where they can get covered with lint and get rewashed. Checked the Elaine thread and it's rolling along nicely! Makes me real happy. What a great bunch of people here on Dave's. !! (Although if Gardengeek doesn't stop sniffling, all her clients are going home with salted hair! ) Incidentally, hangers have their own breeding agenda, mine usually hide in the guest room closet and by the time I look for them, they have multiplied many times over. Might just be a competition with the LMs.

Robert, I don't think they even do sigmoidoscopy much anymore, but because of family history I get the works. My dad developed CC in his late seventies, along with kidney failure, and ended up with a colostomy, and I'm never going down that road!

Sarv ate oatmeal for breakfast? That's a revelation....no Oreos in the house, or leftover liver sausage? No, somebody else had the liver sausage was it Gardengeek? Geeeez, one day outa here and I can't keep up...which is why you don't see me in chat.....makes me dizzy.

Ann, your government can't mess with money any worse than ours. I don't want to get into a rant here but there is money disappearing from our Treasury faster than they can squeeze it out of us. Yesterday I gave DH the heating bill numbers from last winter, and guess who is now turning out lights....we're not on budget, but DD is, and her budget figure just tripled!! I told her to go off budget, and get real readings, because it shouldn't triple, but her DH pays the household bills and he's immovable. So the utility co. gets to keep and invest the excess funds while they pay through the nose. I used to have a time of day pricing while I was working because we used the most electricity in the evenings and we got it cheaper during night time hours. I don't think they even offer that any more.

Maria, friends of ours had a little sweet Sheltie who would bring out his toys and when he was done playing with them, he'd put them back in his toy box. I never saw any other dog do that. Did Samson have another lesson this week?

That storm out in the Dakotas and points west is a bad one. We are expecting snow tomorrow but it may not be the same weather front that's over there. I'm sort of expecting a bad winter here, but I stocked up on food and books so I won't have to do as much running around when the roads get bad.

My car trunk lock has failed again. When I got home from shopping yesterday, the key wouldn't open it, nor would the release by the driver's seat. I just had that fixed last summer, and of course there is no warranty on the repair any more (30 days or whatever). So I had to flip the back seats down and drag everything out through that hole behind them. Using the ice scraper...luckily none of the bags ripped. Really ticks me off, cost $190 to get it fixed. Told DH I'm not fixing it until I need to get my golf clubs in, and maybe not even then.

And a thank you from a DIL, somebody's mother taught some manners! That's a rare event, these days. Even a verbal "thank you" is often lacking in the generation after the GOBs.

tgif, that cranberry relish sounds very delicious, maybe I'll try it out, because we are up for turkey.
My DD is doing an impromptu turkey dinner on Saturday because one of her boys was sick on TG day, and the other went to his inlaws for dinner, so we got invited too. So I'll get to see my GGS, who I understand is talking a blue streak. And we have a company dinner on Friday evening with DH's work group so it won't be long before I fill up all my empty spaces....

Hope everyone had a lovely day, thanks again for your kind words, sleep tight tonight, and no headaches for anybody!!!

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Hi, Gang! I'm home and the results sound good. What that means is that the spot (actually 2) appears NOT to have grown, but the lung specialist is waiting for the report from the radiologist (which was supposed to be faxed yesterday). So... next CT Scan in 6 months rather than 3 months if the report is okay! Yippee!

M5, glad yours was okay, too!

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

Samson had another lesson today, he acted like a wild one when she came through the door, finally he behaved, he is so full of the devil, lol, after about half an hour with both of them my back is about to give out.
The trainer will come one more time next week
We had one of those problems with the hood of a car not opening it, when I needed fuel it was a pain in the neck but used a screw driver, it worked!
Am happy for you, meezer, that every thing went ok ith your test.

Chicago, IL(Zone 5b)

Yippee for the two of you. It sure will be a Merry Christmas now!!

At DD and have a couple of seconds between jobs and thought I'd check in and hugs to all.

Back to the salt mines now.....lol

Hap

Phoenix, MD(Zone 7a)

good news all around makes me very happy!!!!

Lake Toxaway, NC(Zone 7a)

Mary, do you live in an old farmhouse heated with fireplaces? I am out of the loop here....
M5, why are you sending checks to darius? Is she collecting money for someone?
I remember having an ignition problem and used a short, fat screwdriver for a key for ages, lol.
darius, I am glad you are OK. I hope all the reports are negative.
I am still fighting a cold I caught 1-1/2 weeks ago. Coughed so much that I got up after being in bed only 2 hours last night. But I went back to bed later and slept pretty good for about 4 more hours.
The greenhouse is still progressing, but we have to get some building materials Friday. I hope we get this thing finished by Christmas because that is going to be our Christmas present to each other.
