I have not begun to write lol.
Maria I have been busy these last few hours organizing car pools all over the country for dg members to get to the airport this thing looks bigger than wood stock. The guy at the airlines claims it is much cheaper to charter several planes than buy 3000 tickets to the offical Rehoboth Hiking Seminar lol I do believe I gotcha.
After spending a great morning with GD and daddy I took Linda to lunch she had prawns I had breakfast I needed a break from the kitchen LOL. Her prawns looked good but I liked my Ham, mushroom and cheese omlet served with huge sasuage links , breakfast potatoes, enough lean bacon to cause a heart attack and a waffel with butter ,whipped cream and hot cherries and a blue berry pastry. The omlet cooker assured me the waffel was fat free lol. After we ate we played slot machines and I was up 30 bucks a couple of times by the time we were done bankrupting that casino it cost us about 77 bucks lol 27 for food and 50 bucks for two hours of amusement lol we knew that going in. Anyone know why they call it games of chance lol from what I see only the house has a chance.
I bought two pairs of shoes a couple weeks ago and they fit fine for the first week then streached so bad they hurt my left foot so I took them back and the first person I talked to looked at them and said thats not right and said she would exchange them no problem so I found another type shoe and said do you have another pair of these in my size. No but she called the other store and said they have them go over they will be waiting at the service desk. Asked her if we needed something written she said no take the worn ones with you and trade them. When we got there every thing was fine untill the clerk asked for money I said I am not supposed to pay this is an exchange because they streached to much. In comes the supervisor who starts telling me they can't return worn shoes I just stood my ground and told her to call the woman at the other store not my fualt the left shoe was bigger I did not make the shoe. She gave up and told me ok but this time take the shoes home and wear them inside for an hour to make sure they fit lol I told her it was 32 degrees out side how smart is that. I hate sales people who lack common sense. To be sure we are filling out a very favorable compliment for the first stores employees who helped us not one word for the second. Moral of the story when you are right stand fast remain calm and kill them with common sense.
Poohey work again this week sweet dreams. Ernie
Not only am I not giving them my address or phone number I have considered changing our names. These three SIL's are going to drive me insane. What gets me is that they tell everyone that I am as dumb as a bag of rocks but yet I get the credit of being the mastermind behind all their problems. Gosh, how stupid could they be if a bag of rocks is ruining their lifes at every turn.
Okay, I am going to bed and waking up tomorrow with hopefully a better attitude cause this one is making me sick. To everyone that is having a great day I am extra happy for you and pray it continues. To who ever is sick, mad, disappointed, upset or just not having a good day I am hoping the sun comes out and brightens it. As for me I have a date with the sandman.
Casey
You must be lucky in love, Ernie, as the saying goes when losing money, just the opposite is true with me. I went out yesterday and bought some instant tickets, four at first, one had $400.00, the next of an other kind had $200.00. the following of still another kind had $100.00 but what amazed me with the next four I won $1000.00! have to deduct $80.00 I spent but I was disappointed not getting the ticket with the million dollars, Massachustts lottery is very avericious. LOL
Casey, my advice is hang up the phone when they are the callers. I even think there is a way you can negate certain phone calls you do not wish to get from specific others.
Back ache woke me up took some pain killers now am going back to bed, though it is already 5:30, guess I might as well stay up
Maria= how do you do that??? Buy some for me please......I am soooo unlucky. You must be charmed... How many tickets in all did you buy to win that much? I am fascinated by that....
Ernie- did you go to the casino for breakfast???? I have only been twice- and I just cannot go as I LOVE it tooo much.. I would lose everything and be forced to live with each of you for a month.
I am sitting with a heating pad on my arm/shoulder. Hey Ernie, tell me Linda's rotator cuff problem...I wonder if I have that. Sometimes it is ok ( not painfree tho) and other times like now, it is killing me. Seems worse when I hit the sack for some reason.. probably cause I am laying on it!
Have a busy day ahead- workout first thing, then taking MIL for her monthly blood work= think of me please that I can hold my tongue. Then I need to go back into town and get some things at Kohl's that I noticed in their ad yesterday. Wish I could do it all in one trip, but MIL always wants to 'get right home'.
I'm not asking DIL about DS not going to his own gala. No sense getting in the middle of it - ignorance is bliss sometimes!
We put up our tree and two strings of lights didn't work. Grrr, unwinding them is enough to cause me to toss the tree out!! Now I need to get more lights today and finish decorating the tree.
I need some food....see ya later tator.
On my way to work. I couldn't anything for breakfast so I had 7 crackers with braunschweiger on them. With orange juice.
Good Morning. Last day of my long weekend. Nobody home today, so for me this is the best day of the whole holiday weekend! LOL. Got lots of cleaning up and laundry to do, then off to do a little x-mas shopping and grocery shopping.
Sorry to hear some of your are having problems with family! It really stinks when family can't get along. DH's family doesn't seem to be happy unless they have some kind of conflict with someone. I just don't get it?
Very gray here today. It had rained earlier, but I think it's just supposed to be cloudy the rest of the day.
Tried catching up from yesterdays thread, but gave up. Hope everyone has a good day!
Here I am again, good morning
Sarv, I bought 20 Ticket and get 4 in a row of one kind (I have never once won on the first one) If I shold win on these I get 4 of any other kind if not I buy same, and so on. I play once a week, do NOT win every time to that extent !!!! I was always lucky at the casino too, but have not been in a few years
Good for you Meezs. You sure are creative.....what was that I said about the Mother of Invention?????hhehe have a great day everyone and I will be checking up on you all....at least to see if you are behaving......LOL......Dog to vet for check-up and then Miss Molly comes this afternoon....Hee Haaaaa..........
I'm having a terrible time with my posts this am. This was on the Lucy forum and was suppost to be here. Then when I went to retrieve it, I lost all that I wrote here.....UGH.
So, just forget all you didn't read...lol.....wasn't important anyway.
See ya and Blessings........
Hap
Sarv sounds a lot like it but onlt test will prove it hope you have good health insurance you could have other things not as horrible like bone spurs or calcim deposits hope you do not have RC but if you do you need to fix it now before further tearing takes place.
More like lunch for her brunch for me.
Maria it takes a lot of scratch tickets to hire a fleet of 747,s lol better just be happy you have a squatter lol
Wha da ya mean....I'm packed!!!
Morning Everyone!
I'm just popping in to say *HI!* And I can honestly say I have never had to teach a dog to pee. Maria, just take Samson to a dog park, the first boy doggie he sees doing it will teach him. Altho I must say, I think I would like to see Maria and Ernie doing the "Lift a Leg Tango". ROFLMBO
And since Maria is rolling in lottery winnings, she has no excuse for missing the GOB RU. I bet my Rosie would be a wonderful hostess for Samson too. Now we just have to nail down a date!! Come on Gobs, let's DO this!
TTYL
mg
WOW Maria, Massachusetts just paid for your underground fence!! LOL I never win anything, friend of mine suggested I have bought Gucci Moccasins for an entire tribe....buffets are great though! See you tomorrow, which it is already....
What am I saying? This IS tomorrow. Today I mean. hmmmm nap time.
Well, someone heard my plea, and I slept until 8a.m. Almost unheard of. The day has started off good. Ernie, did you talk to my DH last night? When he asked what I was doing today, I said cleaning the house. Immediately he goes and gets the vacuum and does the whole house!!Boy that put me way ahead before I even started.
Ernie, don't you just hate it when you think the problem is settled and then encounter someone with an opposing opinion. I would have given negative comments about second store personnel. BTW, that sounds like a scrumptious breakfast.
Carat, hope you awaken with no family problems, you "bag of rocks". At least you are smart enough to be putting some distance between you and them. Don't give them an address or phone number, just tell them you will contact them, then don't!!
Maria, MG had a good thought on the dog training, maybe "monkey see-monkey do" is as good as human demonstration. Although I sure will miss seeing that.
Sarv, sorry about the aching arm. I agree with Ernie, only the test will confirm it. DH has had shoulder surgery 5 times. 3 on one, and 2 on the other. He is somewhat disabled, as he can't lift much, and cannot raise his arms past chest height. Dang them tangled non-working christmas lights. Just be glad you discovered it before they went on the tree!!
MorningGayle, I am all for the round-up, just give us more time for the full blown cabin fever to set in. I know, when it does set in, let's plan one for a warmer climate. Like the Bahamas!! LOL.
Well, back to finish cleaning the house, then to run some errands. Will check back later.
Morning All
Just checking in quick before I get my rear going. Lots I want to get done today.
Ernie,
Glad you ended up getting some shoes out of that whole fiasco. You have more patience than I would have. LOL
Casey,
Hope you are having a better day today. Ah, the inlaw syndrome,,,,always puts ya *in a mood*.
Maria,
Good for you, that's great. Always nice to win,,,even better when it's that much.
sarv,
I should start working out, maybe I would have the energy you do. Makes me tired just reading what you'r up to sometimes,,,LOL I'll be thinking of you with MIL and hoping that tongue stays where it should,,,,ROFLOL. Better to not get in the middle of the party thing. Good luck with the rest of the tree.
wood,
Yummy breakfast,,,LOL
suzieq,
Glad to hear you have the day to yourself,,,Enjoy!!!!
mg, hap and all I missed, good morning.
Hope everyone has a great day.
Just got a call from the medical machine place and am going in Today to get my CPAP,,,,,oooooo Happy Day. Gosh I can't wait to go to bed tonight,,,LOL,,,Better yet, I can't wait to wake up tomorrow after what will hopefully be a decent nights sleep,,,without a headache and not tired. Don't know when the last time was that I didn't have a headache or have been tired. I'll be a whole new person,,,,I Hope.
Well, see ya later
Kelly
Good morning! The sun is up and everything is sparkley since we had a heavy frost overnight and about 15 degrees this morning. My horses are standing in the sun, soaking up the warmth. I ran out and took a couple of pictures in my bathrobe and slippers so you might get to see (them, not me, silly). LOL
Food poisioning, oh not fun. I knew a whole family that got sick from a fresh turkey one of the guests brought from Seattle to Alaska on the plane. All through the weekend when somebody was feeling well enough to eat they ate turkey sandwiches and it would start all over again. It does make for a memorable holiday, just not the kind we care to remember. I'm glad I wasn't involved in it.
I have to go back and look for and at the wood carving pictures.
Maria, you won enough money to pay for the Samson fence! Good for you. I don't gamble, but I know you just have to set limits on how much you will spend and stick with it. My son went into a casino and was just watching his friend who asked him to hold his place at the machine while he went to the restroom. My son put in one quarter and won $70, then just sat there until his friend came back. The guy asked him why he didn't keep playing and my son said "because I won".
Today there is extra laundry to do and I will continue with my careful weed cutting and hauling job. The weeds should have been cut and taken to the burn pile months ago, and now they have plenty of seeds so I cut them very carefully and take them to be burned, hopefully with seeds intact. I also need to find the bolt cutters and cut a piece of field fencing to wire to the legs of the metal windmill, and find a couple of pieces of old metal fencepost to make it stiffer. When it is put into place in the new flower bed I can get the soil into that corner and put some large rocks on it to anchor it. Have to get on the tractor to pick those up, one of them is about 18 inches each way, a couple of them are about 12 and then I'll have to see what else I find. We have plenty of rocks but I might have to go way down in the pasture and pick some off a rock pile. I think I want about 5 rocks or maybe 7, some to go on the buried wire platform to anchor the windmill and the rest to sort of spill out one side of it. Then next spring I'll plant some alpine flowers for a little rock garden.
Putting a few men together (without beer and tv but with the promise of food) is an effective way of getting some projects done and having a get together at the same time. Of course the group also needs a leader but that is no problem with my DH around. We have had fence building parties, etc. sometimes with a potluck or barbeque afterward.
Ernie, that whole breakfast sounds like a very tasty Coronary Special. It would take me all day and then some to digest it and there's no way I could eat all of that!
My sympathies to those of you with family squabbles. I have found that in many cases it is better to avoid your family and just stick with friends. That way you can choose pleasant people and avoid being involved with the others. But of course, the spouse has to feel the same way about the matter.......... A lot of mileage between you and them would sure help the situation.
It's time I got moving. Have a great day everyone, count your blessings.

Mornin' GOB's... and 'Ettes...
Just back from my CT Scan. I hate the feel of the "contrast" that goes in the IV port.
What a nasty dreary day outside, rain and wind... but not too cold. The rain just makes me feel cold. It's supposed to get worse later today and continue tomorrow, but be clear for my trip to Asheville on Wednesday.
Sarv, I save the cardboard tubes from paper towels and wrap Christmas lights around them when the lights come off the tree. Or cut a piece of cardboard box if I haven't saved a few tubes. (I save toilet tissue tubes too, great for starting seeds that have a long root.)
Maria, sorry Ernie won't make the trip... that would be a hoot to see! Good for you on the scratch-off tickets. I never win anything as a rule... occasionally I get 3 numbers on the GA Lotto which pays $4.
MaryE, heres a rock for you!
Thanks, Darius, but that's a little too big for my tractor to pick up! Hope nobody was under it.
Good morning,
Checked in a few times yesterday, but didn't have time to write anything.
Molly - sorry to hear about the food poisoning. Likely the turkey, but one is never completely sure. While our TG was about 6 weeks ago, I stuffed my turkey for the first time in years. Generally it's easier to do the stuffing separately. And, I guess safer though I've never had a problem, yet..........
Maria - woo Hoo!!! Want to buy some tickets for me? I've occasionally won new tickets and I think I won $50 once. That's it. Of course, I know you have to BUY the tickets to win. LOL
Hi to all the rest of you. I read with interest, but don't always have the time to make detailed notes on all your activities.
DH is still in a medical clinic in Bad Mergentheim, Germany. Won't get to his meetings in Finland. He said this morning that the temperature was almost down to normal, but he won't travel until they give him clearance to do so. Lucky he went early and visited cousins in Germany, I guess. A couple of them are retired medical doctors and they probably got him to medical care earlier than he would have had he gone straight to Finland or possibly even at home.
My handbells played yesterday morning and aquitted themselves well. The piece with the choir was especially popular with the congregation.
After church, I stopped by a restaurant supply place to which I should have gone on Saturday. (Church is about half-way there; so it made sense to detour by on the way home). I bought a pot. It's a bit bigger (deeper) than my previous pot, but the same diameter - 7 inches. Lids come separately at this store; so I didn't buy one and the old lid fits it just fine. My small steamer insert is a bit too small although I could use it in a pinch. But my larger one that fits more than one pot works well. I would just have to use the lid from my 3 quart saucepan.
I've attached a picture. It has a large disk on the bottom of the pan which is steel with aluminum encased in it and it goes right out to the edge of the pan; so it will limit burning in the corners from the gas flame. Used it last night and it seems to heat up more quickly than my older anodized aluminum pan did. I ended up turning the gas way down. Best of all, it was only $60 Cdn less 33%. (The lid would have been another $23). A similar pot in the department stores was about $200 and I could never find a sales clerk to answer any questions anyway. I'm quite happy with the purchase.
Ann
PS Darius - what is the story behind the ROCK?
Ann, what are you steaming? (If you posted it, I forgot.)
The rock was among some pictures in an email, no story. But I had to tease Mary with a BIG rock, LOL.
Darius, mostly I steam veggies. Use it on a regular basis.
Ann
Thanks, Ann. I steam veggies almost every day, in a bamboo steamer atop a wok. I sometimes steam leftover rice or millet, too, and I have a separate one for fish.
http://www.wokshop.com/HTML/products/steamers/steam_hp.html
Darius, I have one I never used....Are they really that good? When I make cooked vegies, I use my pressure cooker and in 2 min or less they are done. Are steamers better?
Hap
Hap, I prefer steamed to cooked because more nutrients stay in the vegetable. But, I've never used a pressure cooker for them so I don't know how much water you use.
Well, I just spent some pleasant time researching bubble lights (instead of packing!). We ARE doing a Christmas tree this year at my sister's house (they usually don't) and I suspect her daughter has never seen bubble lights. (I didn't know they still manufacture them!)
Along the way, I stumbled across 1948's cool fluorescent lights, made by Sylvania and Royal. My aunt (now 92) had a string of them and I was always fascinated. They are white when turned off, and soft pastels when on, and cool to touch. The bulbs are 2" diameter, round.
When my aunt moved out of her house after her strokes, my cousin cleaned out the house and gave me the bulbs, but the wiring harness had been lost for many years. There are actually 3 sets on ebay although with moving expenses, I cannot bid. BUT I will keep a watch for some next year!
Darius.....
1. The pressure cooker uses about 1/2 cup of water in the bottom, but the vegies or whatever rest on a "holy" plate so that they never touch the water....
2. I remember the bubble lights, if I am thinking about the same ones. They had a little reservoir with a glass stem that the bubbles go up.....Are those the ones?
The fluors I can not remember...
Yes, those are the bubble lights: http://www.christmasmoon.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=C&Category_Code=BUB100
Here are the fluorescent lights. I never saw them anywhere but at my aunt's house.
http://www.oldchristmaslights.com/war_years_2.htm
Yup, our bubble lights were the first ones shown. The fluor. I never saw. When I read that in 1940 they were 4 x more expensive, then I knew why we didn't have them........no money.....lol
But we did always have a tree. I still have some ornaments from then. Boy are they fragil glass but so beautiful with hand painting and all.
If our tree now was not so big and take 3 days, and I am not kidding to put up, I would drag it out of the attic. But there is just DH and myself to look at it so we don't bother anymore.
Hap, for the last several years, I have brought in my potted Weeping Norway Spruce to an end table and decorated it. A few days in a warm and dry house didn't hurt it. It got a bad mite infestation last summer and I gave it to a friend who finally got rid of the mites.
Are you old enough to remember how hot the "standard" Christmas lights would get? I think that's why my aunt got the cool fluorescent lights... with 3 small kids in the house.
They were hotter than the hinges of Hades and started many a fire........I remember some of them would even get burn spots on the sides....OUCH!!
LOL, you DO remember!
Sure do, them suckers would burn the paint right off the glass...
hap - don't your veggies get cooked to mush in a pressure cooker? Also, how many are you cooking for? For just me and DH, they would get lost in my pressure cooker. I find most veggies are cooked (al dente) in only about 5 minutes in the steamer. It's GREAT for broccoli.
Ann
Viola,
It's just me and DH...I especially like it for broccoli. I do everything except asparagus.
I have a fairly large cooker too....
I put the SS plate in....1/2 water......bring to boil.........put my vegies in....seal.........when temp stick is all the way up I put my timer on for 2 min. and it is 2 MINUTES. I immediately put the pot under running cold water and open. Broccoli is bright green and al toothy. I don't care for meat in there. I tried stew and it had a funny...steamy taste even though I browned the meat well before sealing.
I love the contraption.
Haha, Darius rocks!!! LOL Glad your test is over, I hate that IV stuff too, but there's no avoiding it. Wednesday you and I will share another exam, but I get the bottom half. Ugh. So, since we won't be here, they can all talk about us!
Dcat, you suggested the Bahamas as a cure for cabin fever!!! I'm up for it!!! Was planning a trip to the UK with my DIL but now that they are saddled with a big fat mortgage, I know she can't afford it. I've been to the beautiful Grand Bahama Island three times, know all the cheap eats places and could be packed in about thirty seconds when Feb/March rolls around. Any body wanna share a room? We liked the Westin a lot, the Sheraton has more families with kids, but either one is very nice. Lush comfy beds with lots of pillows, big rooms, double shower heads....DH hates to travel so I've been going with my DIL.
Good job on the shoes Ernie! Most times you can just put your foot down,(with or without the shoe in question) and be polite but immovable, and finally get what you are supposed to get. The first clerk should probably have called the other store and told them to expect you, but instead you had to deal with the matter yourself. That was a whopping big breakfast..I might have gone for the prawns too, that's a real treat.
Ann, that's a lovely pot. All my sauce pans have that extra thick bottom which spreads the heat nice and even. I've picked most of them up at TJMaxx, and they've held up very well. I had one that had that steamer insert too, but I overheated the base and it separated so I had to throw it out. I kept the insert for a long time but never found another pot that would fit it well, so it finally went too. Now I either use my rice steamer or the little collapsible one that fits in almost anything. My pressure cooker is long gone, I had a Mirro that I used a lot when I was working, but the replacement gaskets just didn't fit well and were made out of some inferior manmade gunk instead of the rubber that the originals were made of. The first one lasted forty years. The replacement, a year. I prefer the steamer for veggies, the pressure cooker cooked them too soft. And you can't check them part way through the cooking.
I remember those "hot lights" you could blister a finger on them.
Seems we buy more lights every year. I try to get the ones that don't all go out when one bulb fails, but even so, they are just a pain. I bought plastic thingies to wind them on, and they work well. I'm not eager to put up a tree this year, since we aren't having any big doings here, so I'm still debating. I don't know. We'll see.....
Sarv, just ask your MIL if she wants to take a quick run into Kohl's, and when she says NO, just say, OK, you can wait in the car, it will just take a couple minutes. LOL What can she do? You gave her a choice! Maybe she'll prevail on someone else to take her next time. Remind her that you are trying to save on gas!!!
Laundry seems to require doing. Obviously someone else has been in my closet and getting my clothes dirty and putting them in the hamper. Certainly I didn't wear three pairs of jeans, and a pair of cords, and six sweatshirts in one week!
Who said they were coming back as a brand new person? How will we recognize you??
Oh right. Laundry. dang.
I might still have some old Christmas lights that originally came in a box like the one on that site that says Noma. They were the hot kind. I also remember the bubble lights, but they might have been on somebody else's tree. Funny, I never thought of Christmas lights and other decorations as antiques.
I cook vegies in a steamer basket that fits into a saucepan. I have two of them, one large and a smaller one, sometimes I wish for another one. Vegies do taste better when steamed, and like Darius said, they retain more nutrients. Cooking them with steam is a bit trickier than boiling them since there isn't much water in the pan, maybe about 3/4 inch to start, and it takes a bit longer. The trick is to turn the heat down after it boils for a couple of minutes. Now and then I scorch the bottom of the pan when it runs out of water and then the contents of the pan go to the compost pile. :o( Checking the water level under the steamer basket can be done easily by running a knife blade down next to the steamer basket, or just by shaking the pan to see if you can hear the water sloshing a little. If in doubt, add more water.
Oh...the bubble lights! I have several strings of them for my tree. I bought them as soon as I saw them a few years back. They always reminded me of my Dad, so I *had* to have them.
Hi Everyone!
Sorry to hear that the free trip to Maria's was cancelled. I was just about to get my ticket, too. LOL
Maybe, since Maria is such a "Lucky Duck" we should have her go to Vegas for US and bring us back Christmas shopping money. :-D
Sarv...I think you might have a bit of trouble surviving at my house for a month. We don't buy Oreos. LOL And there are no Wendy's winthin 65 miles of here. Sorry...;-)
Darius and Hap...I steam my veggies in a steamer pot and love them! Ann, I have a small pressure cooker that's meant for small portions and I use it often. I guess I'm one of those people who aren't afraid of the pressure pots.
Not much going on here today. It's warm-ish...but the rain and wind are enough to make a person *want* to stay indoors...which is exactly where I intend to be.
Tomorrow, we might take my sewing machine into Madison to get it fixed. Something like an expensive but necessary Christmas present. There's no way I could ever afford to replace that machine. I think the newest models are now running upwards of $8,000.00. :-O I guess that what people will pay these days for a sewing/embroidery machine...but I'm not "people". LOL I stopped buying them when they went over the $4,500.00 mark.
Guess I'd better get the kitchen cleaned up so DH can make another mess.
See ya later!
