So Thanksgiving starts soon for us son called and is driving over the mountians tonight bringing his daughter who is four to visit. His trials and tribulations over coustody have cost thousands so far and let me just say Kramer verses Kramer is pale compared to this. This will be her fourth visit and she is such a joy to us. Her mother is so bitter she lost her meal ticket she is at war with the world. She seems destined to bankrupt both of them and has done a swell job of it so far. Son has the ability to recover but she won't and its a shame she can't act reasonable because she is only hurting herself with all her bitterness.

It is also Thanks giving because Linda is off the pain pills at last and is much much better and I am not so nervous about her condition.I have allways known how hard she works here and a full time job to but now have a true apprecation for the things she does so easy that I am so utterley inept at. I have found out I don't like shopping, banking, cleaning, making beds, cooking unless it is for recreational things thank goodness for PB and jam lol. I suppose if I were suddenly alone I would get a nice new sleeping bag and lots of paper plates and directions to lots of places to eat out lol.

Here she is on her first visit late this summer she loves to harvest stuff

Ernie, It is great to hear DW is finally feeling well enough to be off the pain pills. Also wonderful news that you were able to spend some time with your DGD. I remember that picture from her in your garden. What a beautiful child.....

It is so sad that some parents cant see that the fighting over custody only ends up hurting the child and causing grief. No one really ever wins.

Everson, WA(Zone 8a)

Casey TY I cherish these pics sad she had to be almost four before I got any Your right no one wins except the lawers. Ernie

She's a cutie and looks very pleased to meet her great-grandmother. Good luck to you and your son and I hope things will be completed soon.
I have to work today because I missed 3 days due to a cold. I returned to work yesterday only to find both my boss and our receptionist were sick. I hope they have the same cold I did because I do not want to catch another one on top of this one.

Here is the greenhouse as of Thanksgiving afternoon. You can see more windows are in. I will be glad when they're all painted the same color.

Morning everyone!! Back amongst the living. I spent the day trying to sleep after my TG and then the early morning shopping. I just couldn't nod off. But did go to bed at 8:30 and slept until 6:45 - almost unheard of for me. AND I feel like a million bucks today!!! (I could even go shopping again LO) DH and both sons are going shopping for tools today - they have a grand time- the only problem is DH puts everything on our charge and we somehow end up with the short end...happens every year...

Bal - I must own 6 crockpots - one of every size and an extra to keep in the trailer. I love cooking in them... Shame on you for encouraging me to get out the oreos....I haven't restocked my freezer with them and now you tell me to eat some....That paying the bill eating out has always been a problem for us too. It seems when it was OUR turn to pay, out friends would have a zillion drinks (while I sipped ice water). When DH lost his job and I retired we decided it had to stop. Now we say up front - seperate checks please. It continues to be a problem with our children tho -for some reason they think the $$ pot is bottomless. I have tried to explain in private to them, but they say ' oh mom, I know you have millions stashed away' ya right.... When we go to their house and order out, I always pay my share, but when we order our from our house, it continues to be a problem. I feel like such a cheap skate - but it is imperative that we watch our pennies....and I HATE IT!

Babs - thank you, thank you for your job...and working on a holiday. Are you sure some of those gall bladder patients weren't hospital employees?? Eating all that food...yikes...And who could make all those pies>>> I made two and that was enough crust rolling for me. I just don't like the taste of those prefolded crusts -

I'm jealous of all you who have multiple grandkids. We only have one- a nine year old wonderful GS. He is spoiled royally as he is the only one on both sides. I"m hoping for more and am knitting a 'white' baby blanket in hopes~~~

Geek - I hear ya about the husband thing and tipping it. DH came home last night and had a few , but must have had more than I thought. He gets on the phone and talks LOUD, calling both boys. I was really ticked at him - gave him a piece of my mind and went to bed. He cannot hold liquor at all...slurrs is words, acts goofy etc...I'm not a tea tootler, but had a dad who suffered from alcoholism and would rather not visit that scene ever again. nuff said about that~

E rnie - your DGS sure looks like your wife!! Parents spatting makes me so angry....I have told my DIL (the fiesty one) that DH and I had fights (of course...), but NEVER in front of the kids. I am hoping she gets the picture. But I hear her spewing forth nasties when "I" am over there, so I am sure she does it in front of the DGS.

I'm thinking about having a big piece of pumpkin pie for breakfast and some dressing and gravy. Then I am thru with the TG food!! I also have a huge plate of the pecan bars left- they were good, but way gooeyier than the ones I made before. Think I will make a pot of turkey soup in one of the new crocks too!!

Hello to everyone else!!!! Glad you're all well and kicking!! Oh I made DH ride with me to return books at the library so he could experience the 'butt vibration" Before we left, he showed me the problem - heavy build up of wet snow behind the rims - he knocked it out and the problem was solved... whew....I was worried I'd have to stay home and not hit the road!! LOL

Off now to call my sis and talk for an hour long distance- thank goodness for cell phones and free calls on the weekend!

Lambertville, NJ(Zone 6a)

Good Morning everyone!! Got up around 7:00 and put a couple breakfast casseroles in the oven. It's kinda like a western omlet in casserole form. Eggs, cheese, onions, peppers, and potatoes. We are having a family breakfast since my aunt is visiting. There will be 11 of us. There were only 6 of us for thanksgiving.

I have been loving these crisp mornings. For some reason gives me more ambition. Need to get out some more of the Christmas stuff today. I have way too much! I have 10 totes on the attic with Christmas decorations. I don't put everything out every year, but have to go through them all and see what I want to use this year. I don't know if any of you remember a home party company called Christmas Around the World, but I used to be a rep for them and ended up with lots of free xmas stuff. I really need to weed through some of it and

DGS just woke up and is now on my lap. Kinda hard to type with a 3 year old between you and the keyboard. Have a great day . See ya later

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Good Morning... Wow, y'all have been busy! Sounds like everyone had a good holiday.

I had a nice Thanksgiving with my sister but we didn't get to see the movie. After driving over to GA for the 12:30 matinee, found out the winter schedule only has the 3:40 matinee and we didn't want to waste 2 hours hanging around. We will try again today.

Almost 3/4 of the packing is done, and my sister will leave in the morning. Didn't get it all done but I have until Dec. 12 when the movers come to finish the remainder. I now have a "Florida Room" LOL... it's a separate room with all the stuff I'm taking to Florida for the winter so it doesn't accidentally go to storage here... my tools (to help Molly), all the foodstuffs (the 9 x 12 pantry contents), and a small amount of personal stuff. Computer will be added at the last minute.

Monday morning I have my next CT Scan, and Wednesday I drive to Asheville to have the lung specialist review the status. Later Monday Bob will come help me move the boxes of books back to my existing storage unit since there's still the space they came out of. He's less expensive than the movers, and it's only books in 12" boxes.

Chicago, IL(Zone 5b)

It sounds as if you are on a roll, Darius....Moving is such fun, huh! UGH.. I am in this home longer than I have ever been anywhere in my life, 20 yrs...I couldn't even imagine what it would take to get me untrenched here. I'll just leave it all for my kids and they can just set a fire to it all....

eweed...some kiddo....beautiful. You'll have to put her in a convent when she gets about 12.....

Sarv, I have 3 grandkids, but they are 1300 miles away in Rochester, NY. I will get to see them right after Christmas. But only seeing them a couple of times a year, they really don't know me or I them. It's sad...when I think of how close my mother and father were to my kids, I realize that we are all missing a lot. But, I'm not about to move up to the snowy hinterland or are they about to uproot and come to heat. None of my kids like the heat....silly babies.....

Have missed a lot in a couple of days, but it looks as if all is well with all the GOBs and Gobettes. Thats really something to be thankful for.

See ya all later....

Hap

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Ernie - wonderful pics of your DGD. Thanks for posting. I agree it's sad when there is so much fighting between parents but hope that you will be able to remain a stable influence in her life.

woodspirit1 - the green house looks great. Enjoy!

Back to yesterday's thread - defoe - so glad your mother wasn't seriously injured. I trust you'll be replacing that phone that wasn't working.

As to accomplishing things, I'm not so sure I do. I DO know that DG time has cut into productivity. LOL But my house is a MESS. When I finish up at the Food Cupboard, I hope to purge a lot of paper and get the remaining paper at home under control. (Whatever happened to that "paperless society" we were supposed to have??? Sure didn't make it to my life. sometimes it seems that I just move stuff from one pile to another.)

Glad many of you enjoyed the link to the music. I just listened to them again and I think we are going to play "O Come Emmanuel" a bit slower than the sound clip. I don't like to rush through that tune. (The sound clips are for promotional purposes to acquaint directors with ne music releases but they aren't alway the best interpretations). And it will be the focussing music at the beginning of the service. sometimes our organist will play a bit of music while people are Gathering and talking. But the official "Prelude" is after the welcome and people are asked to be quiet and use it to prepare for worship. It has solved the problem of people yakking right through it. And it means the bells can play at that time because when people were yakking, we couldn't be heard.

I'll have to check out sources on-line for candles before next year. There is also a local store, Liturgica, which apparently has candles. I thought I knew where it was, and looked for it on thursday when I realized that my traffic-avoiding detour when returning from DD's house would take me by its location. but I didn't see it. May have moved.

Darius, sounds as though you are making good progress with the packing. Good luck with the rest of it.

Well, I've managed to use most of the morning doing nothng much. Of course, it doesn't help that I'm in the middle of a good book and without DH here to shame me into going to bed at a reasonable hour, I read till 1:30. If I go out, the stores will undoubtedly be crowded. I want to replace ONE cooking pot. I've got a 2 quart Circulon pot which has all the non-stick worn off of it even though it has NEVER had metal utensils used in it. Should be replaced but I don't want a whole set of cookware. And if I can find a pot which can use my existing steamer insert, all the better. Have a gas cook top and have found that stainless steel, unless the copper or aluminum bottom is really wide, burns in the corners where the gas flame licks around them on the smaller pots. I went into one large department store and looked around, but they had no staff to answer questions and most of the stores seem to sell pots just in sets. I think I'll try to visit a couple of cookware specialists today.

Must also drop by my church and finish the set-up for bells. We usually do that on Thursday after practice, but a group was decorating the Christmas tree last evening and the bells tables would have been in the way. We left them up with the pads on them to remind them to leave space for us (keeping my fingers crossed here), but the final table drapes were not on. If I can do that today, we won't have to get there quite so early tomorrow morning.

Just peeked at new messages - Hap, I can just imagine the stuff you might have. But speaking from the position of a daughter who had to clean out, if things mean anything to you, sort out the good stuff and label pictures etc. When my sister and I cleaned out my mother's house in Fairport (near Rochester) in 1993, we had a couple of weeks to do the bulk of it. We got a huge dumpster and had it full. There were things we might have kept if there had been any prayer of identifying people in pics, etc. But DM's mind was sufficiently gone that we could rely on her. To complicate things, I live in Canada and the International border made things a bit difficult and my sister lives in Alaska. We know that we sold or threw away things that under different circumstances we might have kept.

Guess that's enough.
Hope you all have a good day.

Ann

Whidbey Island, WA(Zone 7b)

Good morning everyone! Ti's a fine day even if the wind is blowing and the sky is grey. I've been trying to catch up on y'day's thread. Everyone has so much news and there are so many situations to comment on, but I'll keep my post brief.

First, allow me to say, I send my thanks to all who commented on those of us who work in the medical field. It's always nice to be appreciated or at least thought of even for a brief moment.

Secondly, I'm so grateful to all of you for sharing your lives with each other. It's such a nice place here, enjoying the stories of others, finding out we are so alike in many ways. We all have problems, in laws that make us crazy, neighbours that are nosy, etc. No matter where anyone is on their path in life or in what economic situation, we're all basically the same. It's refreshing reading that people from all areas and all backgrounds share the one common *thread* here....gardening.

Third, the comment I posted about our medical director going out into the ambulance bay and performing the *karma washing and realignment ceremony*, it was all in good fun. At the time this happened, our medical director of the ER was fairly new to our facility having come from a HUGE 150 bed ER in a mid west metropolitan hospital. He thought he was coming to a place where there would be less acuity and fewer patients. Yes, indeed, according to numbers, we saw fewer patients on average than where he had been, but our acuity ratio to patients was much higher. This was a Level I Trauma Center and we saw the worst of the worst, not just the usual stuff that shows up in ER's. It seemed like each time he came on shift, we got slaughtered. It's kind of a joke amongst ER staff everywhere to blame the conditions on the new guy. So, he being the good egg that he is, went along with my joking and finally did go out into the ambulance bay, dressed in a pair of white shorts and tee shirt, walking backwards carrying the white lighted candle, etc., and chanting the little saying. I told him his karma needed realignment and to be washed clean since he tempted the pixies by using the Q-word and he obliged the crew by performing for us. LOL

Now, whether anyone subscribes to this kind of thing, and I'm not casting any aspersions upon anyone's belief system, but I have to tell you, something did work. (snicker) He was no longer the *black cloud* of the ER, we didn't get slaughtered EVERY time he came on shift after this little ceremony.....but he did manage to pass on the black cloud to the next new ER doc that came on staff. LOL. I just made sure for the next couple of months, I didn't pick up any extra shifts when I knew that new ER doc was going to be working. I thought maybe it was someone else's turn to get hammered at work....LOL. So, you can see ER people are as superstitious as baseball players.

I hope everyone has a wonderful day today. WS1, that greenhouse is coming along fabulously! I'm sure you will enjoy it immensely this spring. Good thing your spouse is so handy. Does he hire out? How about you and I striking a deal? I'll trade you one sailor for your builder for a few weeks while he comes here and builds a greenhouse for me. I'm afraid though, I'll be getting the better end of the deal. You'll get someone who's gone all the time and I'll have a wonderful place to grow some fabulous plants.

Hugs to all, ~Babs~

Chicago, IL(Zone 5b)

Viola.....remember it is I who have the sons in Fairport.....they will be helping my daughter...ho, ho, ho. They will be the first to order my dumpster. I agree about marking things....but just for example, I have an old photo album with pics of my Father's family in England. They have to go back over 100 years, daddy is 98 himself. I have no idea who they are, but they are Family so I have kept the album. Silly I know, but I actually look at it every so often.....That's probably even a worse sign....sign of sumptin' anyway.

Also, I have a ? about the candles. I am Catholic and we use 4 candles; one for each week of Advent. You use 5? Howcum??? Curious mind wants to know....

Babs, I give you a lot of credit for working there. My ex and my son are both Internists and I remember both their stints in the ERs...I don't know how you can deal with such crisis' but I thank God that wonderful people like you can bear the pain, (Not to mention the messes) (Shudder)

Woodspirit....do you plan to use the GH in the winter or just in the spring for starting stuff.....?

See ya later...

Well, slept better last night. Even slept until 8 a.m., which is unheard of for me. Made pancakes for breakfast, as DGD requested, sorry I did not get them made in time to put some on the counter. Had some errands to run, so was gone about 2 hours. Stopped by a local florist, who was having an open house. They carry antiques and gifts. Picked up a neat recipe book, whose intended purpose is to write your recipes to give to someone else. Since DGD has requested that I do that, I will begin this for a gift for her next christmas. I would have loved to had one from a grandmother, as I didn't get to know either of them. I also got a CD for DH for Christmas, piano gospel songs by a local person. It is really good. Doing some laundry, so DGD can take home all clean clothes. We need to go to visitation at the funeral home later this afternoon. A dear neighbor passed away. Then probably go out to eat.

Eweed, I hear you about the custody battles. When DS and wife divorced our DGD was only 1. Well to give you the short version, ex-DIL refused to let us see the GD. At that time Kentucky had a law for grandparents rights. We took her to court, and after nearly a year of being in court at least 2 to 3 times a month, won our case, and were given visitation every other weekend. At the time, DIL was so bitter, that she said that if we had to live in court we would. My reply was I don't want to do it that way, why don't we just set up a savings account and put all of the money we are spending on lawyers into that account for DGD. She said that she would spend her last dime fighting us. My very unchristian reply was, I think I have more money than you do, and I'll spend whatever it takes to get to see her. Time, maturity, and maybe regret has seen her mellow, and even asks us to keep DGD during her summer school breaks. Custody battles do nothing but make the lawyers richer. So I hope that your son's battles are short and favorable. Just do a lot of praying for her. God can do more to change hearts than any of us mortals can.

Well, all, sorry not to be able to comment on all posts, but the laundry room is calling. I will check in later to see what you have been up to.

Robert, what a talent you have, amazing work of wood carving

Whidbey Island, WA(Zone 7b)

balvenie,

Holy crow man!!! I can hardly catch my breath looking at those carvings!!! They are magnificent! You've got quite the talent there. My hat's off to you!

Do you belong to any of the art associations here in NW WA? You should be showing your work. If you aren't in any galleries or associations, you should be. With your talent you could get some recognition for your efforts.

Have you ever been up here to Whidbey Island? My sister started the Greenbank Gallery at the old winery down on SR-525. You might want to contact them and show them some of your carvings. I'm sure they would be interested in putting some of your work in the gallery for sale if you are of the mind. The Blue Heron Gallery in Coupeville is also showing local artists work. You might enjoy putting some of your things there. Have you ever thought about going to the Coupeville Arts & Crafts Festival in September? They have a very nice area by the water that features local artists at work showing their crafts.

Anacortes on Fidalgo Island also has a very nice street fair every summer. They have a couple of nice galleries there too. Please consider it, it could be your new claim to fame.

Send me a D-mail if you're interested, I can put you in touch with some of the associations here. Marysville isn't that far away.

I agree with you, Babs, and you are a real sweetheart for taking Bal under your wing......not that he needs it, mind you.....

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

Holy Cow Bal - that is gorgeous. I did woodcarving once - now don't laugh - I started a receipe box and just wanted the words 'receipes' on it and couldn't do it!! My hand kept slipping and it looks a fright (I still have the box for reminders of my failing!!) I admire anyone who has talent to do things like that. Just remembered, I did do a name plaque for each of the kids when they were younger. Still have those too!!

In my next life, I want to have a beautiful voice and be able to dance. I often like to belt out a song, but from the cringes on DH face, I know it isn't pleasant. My kids say I ruin songs....

Had two turkey sandwiches and two pieces of pumpkin pie.

Got out the xmas decorations and sure wish I could just pitch them all and start over. After several years the things looks kinda tacky. Boxes and tinsel are all over- should get things picked up!!

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Wierd - I started a reply and it disappeared. Don't know what I did.

balvenie - great doorway.

Hap - I knew that YOU knew where Fairport is, but I didn't figure many of the others would.

Re Advent candles, the 4 are for the 4 Sundays of Advent. The fifth is generally in the middle and is the Christ candle. Generally white, and is lit on Christmas Eve or Christmas day.

Trapsed all over Ottawa today in boots looking for the cooking pot. Came up empty handed and sore footed. Just enough snow that I had to wear boots and with my narrow feet, it's almost impossible to find boots that really fit well for walking. Also sore kneed from the kind of bent knee walk that one does on slippery surfaces.

Came home to phone messages from DH who is in a medical clinic in Germany. Seems he picked up an infection after his procedure on Thursday. He will be OK, but they put him in the clinic for stronger antibiotics. He won't make his meeting in Helsinki on Monday and maybe not on Tuesday either in which case, he'll just come home.

Holy Hannah,,,,,,so busy everyone is today. I feel like a slug. I worked in the Salon until 12:30. Took Gran to the grocery store. Came home, put my groceries away, spruced up the house a tad and am now enjoying pizza for lunch. Will be doing some more in the house after I stuff my face.

eweed,
Glad you get to see DGD for a bit,,,,what a sweetie. Sad thing, custody battles. Hope all goes well. Glad to hear your DW is doing better.

wood,
oooooo, I'm droolig up a storm over here. Looking Awesome.

sarv,
We have a friend that is like that. When he's here and we order in, he never offers to pay for his share. Told Bill, the next time he's here we Won't be ordering in. Bill can hold his beer,,,,but he Hates the Holiday's so it's always rough on him. Still doesn't excuse his going out all night, ggggrrrr

suzieq,
I remember Christmas Around The World,,,,still have some of the things I got from them. 10 Totes????? Now I don't feel so bad with my 4,,,LOL

darius,
Moving right along there with your packing,,,great. Good Luck Mon. with your tests.

Hap,
LOL @ setting fire to it all. I am Lutheran, we also have 5 Advent Candles, the center one is the Christ Candle, we light it at the Christmas Eve Service.

Ann,
We have a handbell choir at my home church in IL. Wonderful, I really enjoy listening to them play. I miss that,,,being up here now, our church doesn't have that. I listened to the link,,,beautiful.

Babs,
Never did get to tell you how I admire medical staff and all the hard work you all do. Thanks.

defoe,
Glad your DIL has mellowed,,,makes things a lot easier that way. Especially on the kids. And AMEN, you are right, God can do all.

bal,
What can I say,,,,,Awesome, Gorgeous. Excellent work

Well, done with the pizza, have to get some more things done. Bill is at his Mom's, they are having their TG today. So, I can get a lot done while he's gone,,,LOL. I don't go very often. We were involved in a business together and I was left holding the bag,,,so to speak,,,they Bankrupted out of everything and I was left with tons of debt. So, the forgive and forget thing,,,,well,,,,I still need A LOT of work on that one and ask God for His help everyday. So far, my evil twin is winning out,,,LOL

Have a good evening all,

Babs the street fair That takes place In Anacortes is called the Arts and Crafts festival and has a lot to offer. I work at a shipyard on that island. Lol being a former sailor I built my own GH I am sure John Paul can do it to.

Robert I have three quilt racks almost finished in my shop so I have three years to go lol. I compleated two One linda wanted painted Dark blue I said ok and finished the second with a white wash that let the wood show through it was georgeous Linda painted it with a white latex and made me so mad I never finished the last three . I can not stand for anyone to tell me how to build or finish anything .I design and build things to satisfy me and if it is not good enough for me I never give it away and never would sell what I build of wood ,maybe steel, maybe fiberglass but not wood. I find most people have lousy taste when they get involved with the design process most know what they like but don't know how to get it.

Defoecat Wa had that law but it was overturned and we get by with his normal visits he gets her every other week end but can only bring her here every other time because of the length of travel. It would be nice if the nasty princess would talk to us but has not since Linda asked for the babys ss number so we could buy bonds. lol a friend got it by hacking ha ha. I could understand her better if we had ever done anything to her but we did not she is so bitter she stinks lol.

Put a pork roast in the oven this should be interesting maybe with luck it will even be good if not Golden Arches here icome lol. Time for a nap while the oven works

Chicago, IL(Zone 5b)

eweed, you sure did say a mouthful about your wood projects.....and I agree..

Viola & GG thanks for the info. on the candles. Just interested and it sounds very reasonable too.. Also, Viola, I don't remember how big a pot you were looking for. Could you consider an iron dutch oven? That works perfectly on my gas stove. I know what you mean about the gas on the sides of the pans. Burnsville.

I guess everyone has gone to bed, so, so am I......

Night George....

Hap - the pot is just a 2 quart or 1.8 litre saucepan. The one I have is 7 inches across and fits the steamer insert of my previous pot. (That pot was overheated by DD #2. When she moved out I gave it to her, but not the steamer). It is a pot I use daily. Good size for cooking for 2 people. If I can get another which fits the steamer, I'll do so - maybe even if it's not as good a pot. It will still work for steaming and I could consider a different shape of pot for the other uses.

Whoooeeee, I finally saw the movie! If you like country music at all, I Walk the Line is an absolutely marvelous piece of acting and directing. If Joaquin Phoenix doesn't get an Oscar nomination (nomination at least, IF not the oscar) I shall be very surprised.

I'm not much of a country music fan, but grew up with Rock and Roll before I discovered classical music. In the early years, Johnny Cash toured with Buddy Holley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis, Carl Perkins, etc. and the casting for these roles was also superb. ALL of them did their own singing!

Robert, I had to call DH out of his recliner to come and look at your wonderful carving! You did a beautiful job! I don't know how anyone can sell something that they put so much of themselves into, it's priceless. Good Job!! Now come over here and build me one of those garden arches like yours!

Ernie, it's a shame that the little ones have to suffer for their parent's disagreements. In my younger DD's situation, they didn't fight over custody, they just kept dumping the poor kid back and forth on each other because neither one has the ability to be a decent parent. When he was in high school I stuck myself in the picture and he came to live with me and my DH until he went in the Navy. If they had disagreed with that situation, they never would have gotten the money together to hire a lawyer, and DGS didn't want to be with either of them by then.

DH has a friend who always manages to stop by just about dinner time. I'm still waiting for him to take us out for pizza like he promised two or more years ago. I only feed him now when he has helped DH with some car stuff, or the garage. Which isn't completely finished yet. I don't mind sharing our table, but I think it's rude not to reciprocate.

Sarv, it's a good thing you didn't finish the box or the misspelling of recipe would live forever. LOL ( I know, you're not a typist. Just couldn't resist.) You did good shopping though...I think our Christmas stuff is looking shabby too, and I don't think I'll haul it all out this year. Might not even put the tree up, since we won't be having dinner here this year. It's a major space gobbler, and there isn't all that much room for it. Just call me Ms. Grinch. Doing almost all my shopping on the 'net. I just fell far behind this year and don't think my feet would be up to miles of mall-ing.

V,Ann, have you considered looking for a replacement pot on the internet, or would you need to try the insert to see if it would fit? They don't provide the diameter or circumferance on pots except for frying pans, so maybe that would be risky. I just ordered a pasta cooker for my DIL, and bookcases for DH's den on Target's website. Also they do have those little collapsible steamers that fit into almost any pot, and that's what I use since I overheated the pot that had the insert!! Oops. LOL

Maria, I'm glad Samson enjoyed his turkey treat! He's being such a good boy, he deserved it. Does he have another training session on Monday? He really keeps you out of mischief, doesn't he!!

GardenG, I wouldn't sit at the inlaws table either. Don't blame you one bit. Money is only only one of the reasons we don't see most of DH's siblings or his mother. They are a hypocritical, greedy, and unethical mob, and I suspect DH was switched at birth and some unfortunate soul got stuck with her first born, because he is unlike any of them. I am unable to be charitable to any of them, because of their nasty backbiting, and unpaid loans.
I sound pretty grumpy tonight myself, and hope it doesn't come across that way. I guess it was just the subject matter...

Told ya that was a good movie, Darius!! I think it will be in line for awards for sure.

I'll say good evening to all, even though I haven't mentioned everyone by name, just know that I have read all the posts and am thinking of you. Good thoughts!

Edited becawz I cain't speel, either.

Darius, Johnny Cash, my favorite male country singer, and Betsy or is it Patsy Kline, like to see that movie

Patsy Cline. She sang some great stuff, and I have a CD of her old hits.

M5- LOL - I knew there was a reason I didn't finish that 'box' - no spell check on the old crapple, so you'll just have to decipher my misspellings!

DH and I just got back from a trip to Sam's Club. Of course when we got there I couldn't find my card - DH just glared at me....told him he could be responsible for it next time. Spent $100 bucks on nothing (for me) just excedrin, blue jeans, socks and a membership renewal! Easy come, easy go I guess.

Not much news here - house is still torn up from getting out the xmas stuff. I'll straighten it up tomorrow, or the next day.

Darius- glad to hear the packing is progressing. So you think I should see the J.Cash movie? Is it something DH might enjoy?

Talked to my folks today in Fla and they said the weather was glorious - told them they missed another 6 in. of snow here in Mich. Glad they can be where it is warm and nice. They were going out to buy some flowers today to plant - now THAT makes me envious.

Time to hit the chair and watch some more boob tube.

The reason I learned to like these two artists is because Richard bought himself some CD,s he played them in the car and I really liked them.. Richard played the guitar quite a bit. Many years later I bought him a Martin for one Christmas, he let our son barrow it to take to college, some one stole it, it was worth lots of money a bit.
Friends of Richard would come over, one of them used two spoons, I did get a kick out of that lol, Every time they came they would start off with" Maria Elena You" I would just smile and shake my head, at all that strange music to my ears. hate to tell you how many years ago that was, :-))

Starkville, MS

meezer - do what my Mom does. She has NO extra room in her home - so she tapes the Christmas cards she gets on the wall in the shape of a tree. As she puts it, "I'm still decorating my tree New Year's Eve, as late cards come in! Takes up zero space and is coloful and pretty!

Sarv, I would recommend the movie to anyone. The story is quite touching without being maudlin, but it's the casting, directing and acting that makes it.

Maria, I am sure you would enjoy the movie!
