My cold isn't letting me sleep so I thought I'd post this picture from about 4 days ago. We have had a freeze since then.

And this is progress on the green house. Believe it or not, all the windows will match. There will be a 4' roof extending from the kiln shed that will not be glass but in our circumstances, it's necessary.

Good Morning Woodspirit and all the rest of you sleepy heads. I can't crow too loud for I am not us under my own volition. The dog had to go out and the coffee pot started calling to me...Got some Hazelnut from BJs and I love it. Add a little French Vanilla Cream to it and it's delightful....

That GH is coming along nicely. You will be amazed how quickly it heats up with a little sun. Hope you plan on some top vents; it really will get hot in there even in the winter.

Hope DH will finish repairing the inv. dog fence today. Don't want to make a TG trip though the neighborhood.

Maria, you mention, several days ago just before Comcast crashed me, that you thought that what you paid for your inv fence was a lot. I have a small to average size city yard and they wanted about $1300 to do mine. So yours at an acre sounds like the deal of the century. It's great isn't it?

A cold front has come in a it's chilly here, but not bad...The one thing I don't like is the wind; it's moving the pile of metal that used to be the screen for the pool. It is creaking like Twilight Zone. I can't imagine what that sounded like being torn stem to stern in the hurricane. Poor Archie is not keen on the noise either.

Molly and her DS, Jeremy, will be back today to paint. Promised them sandwiches so I have to hit the store this am. UGH. Well, I'll get the last couple of things I need for TG, so not all will be lost. It's just getting my bones out of the house. I'm a home-body and I don't care if I ever leave. My husband's DD calls me a hermit. Even with working, my 15 1/2 year old car only has about 94,000 miles on it. It's almost a classic. Anyone knows how old a car has to be to be considered a classic? It's got a few dings, but I still love it and don't see anything on the market that I want, so it stays here with me. It's a 2 x 2, 1990, Nissan, 300zx, pearl white. It's my baby.......

Got to get to the other threads and also find the stained glass pic. It sounds like a winner.

Have a great am everyone and I will check in with you later.

Hap

Lookin good Wood!!

I'm typing with a heating pad again. Painted the stairs and another coat on the walls. Today I need to fix some boo-boos where the dark paint plopped on the ceiling (drat) and then do the moldings at the bottom. Hopefully I can get it all done today and the mess cleaned up. Because I found out last night at 8:30pm that I AM HAVING THANKSGIVING!!!!

I slept little as I was thinking of everything I need to serve, cook, buy, clean etc. Today I am going to the huff and puff, then into town to get a table cloth that I think I need, then back miles to DS house to sit for several hours waiting for a repairman, then back to the grocery store to load up. I need to plan what I am serving (I thought we were going to DS house!) It will all turn out fine, I just will be in a tizzy until Friday and then will be sick with some type of stress induced illness!! Can you tell I have experience in this LOL

I have a wretched headache right now - feels like sinus stuff coming on.

Darius - oh don't you just hate water!!! It is so sneaky coming in and can do so much damage - dinner sounds delightful tho! DH made fish, fries and spinach (can't get enough spinach - just love it!) for dinner last night- I sat with my feet up as I was bushed from the painting.

Wed I am watching DGS. He is going to be put to work dipping pretzels for me and running the apple peeler.

Well, off to get out the cookbooks - take care everyone!!

Chicago, IL(Zone 5b)

Sarv...use the ol' standbys.....then you don't have to re-invent the wheel. Every body's happy and you will be too. Know about the stress induced crapola....At one time I thought I had the market corned on it. Then my DD started. Talk about the Acorn syndrome. hehehe

Darius, hold on, it's only a couple of more days.....Will you use a Pod like Molly? Moving is sure the pits.

See ya

Chicago, IL(Zone 5b)

Found the stained glass. Boy, oh Boy...what talent....

Schroon Lake, NY(Zone 4a)

woodspirit that greenhouse is going to be wonder ful (maybe room for a little stained glass suncatcher made by Babs BIL? ) Hope you start feeling better

darius and sarv and gardengeek and everyone else with crapola to face - my sympathies and good wishes for cheer and energy and good health!! The holidays just make all that harder. We have a downpour and I've got my 8 hours of driving to pick up my daughter at college. Not looking forward to the drive, but it's easy compared to packing, moving, finding out at the last minute you're hosting TG when you're already bushed or being sick. So in honor of TG I'm counting my blessings and the energy I was going to use to complain I'll convert to good vibes and send 'em out!!

Chicago, IL(Zone 5b)

Safe trip to Rochester.....do you take the T-way?

Schroon Lake, NY(Zone 4a)

hap yes, and it's an easy, if boring, drive. I do enjoy lookin at the farms but get a little drowsy by Syracuse!!
I went to SU myself, so I guess my body thinks that's where we stop and nap!! It's only with the pounding rain and the truck traffic that it get's stressful. I always hate it when the wall of water from a truck hits your windshield and you're blinded for a minute! The blowing snow can get trickytoo, but I'll just take my time!!
(And be glad I'm warm and dry and healthy!!)

Lambertville, NJ(Zone 6a)

Good morning! Just popping in before I leave for work. Gotta be out the door in about 10 min.

Woodspirit - that greenhouse is looking awesome.

Sarv- Sorry you're in pain today. Glad your TG plans are finally settled.

dmc - If you this area a little bit, we are about 3 mi. north of Lambertville. Between Lambertville and Ringoes. This is a great area. You are right there are some wonderful artists around here. I keep hoping some of that will rub off, but hasn't happend yet. My attempts at painting look more like kindergarden work. LOL

Very dark and gloomy here today. One of those days it's not so bad not having a window in my office.

Well, gotta go. Have a good day all. See ya later!

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

Good Mornong every one
I read every word all of you have to say, I like to respond to every body as some of you do so nicely but Samson keeps interrupting and I forget where was at. I agree with you all saying good things about all the accomplishments you have created, paintings, garden work, caring for pets and building green houses, plaing instruments and nursing plus taking good care of the other half, even wood carvings and sewing, what a great bunch you are!
I am going to my daughter's home in the city for thanksgiving, am going to make a pumkin pie and a try a new recipe, a cranberry pumkin cake with ground ginger snaps lining a springform, hope it will turn out OK. Their son and family will also come up from PA, be wonderful to see my GGD again will try to take some pictures.
Samson was finally allowed to be out of doors without a leash but with that special collar, he did not get near the fence. Today it is raining hard, he got soaking wet, hope he does not catch a cold lol my daughter said you look all worn out, Mom, you are worrying every minute about him.
I can imagine every one is busy for the big day, I will not have too much to do but last evening I had DD and husband for dinner, had rosted pork loin with apricott, butter, rosemary, cinamon stick simmered in port and chicken broth then last two removed before all went int to the blender, it was very good with cous cous and snap beans plus a salad for dessert a chocolate mouse pie, it seems I cooked all day but it was worth it.

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

dmcdevitt - I'm another with links to Rochester. After my parents moved from Warrensburg, we settled in a suburb of Rochester. But your 8 hrs round trip is a real sign of the times. Used to take us most of a full day to drive from the east side of Rochester back to Warrensburg for a visit unless maybe that is the perception of a child. But the Northway wasn't built yet in those days. I expect that shaves quite a bit of time off the trip.

I made the round trip from Ottawa to Rochester about every 6 weeks while my mother was in a Rochester nursing home a decade ago. For sanity, I hooked up with a local orchestra in the Rochester-Fairport area. Would drive down on a Thursday and play their dress rehearsal and two concerts with them over the course of 4 days. Gave me something sane to do and gave them a violist. But when my mother was no longer able to go to the concerts, I quit doing that. The trip from Ottawa takes about 4 1/2 hours plus whatever time it takes to clear customs at the border (more these days than before). There are times of the year when it definitely is NOT nice driving down I81 next to Lake Ontario. I once delayed a trip home and when I did drive home, had one lane snow covered all the way from Syracuse to the Canadian border.

Neat paintings in your basement.

defoecat - that trip to Germany was the only time I had packed poorly. Had a briefcase with papers for a meeting (I was treasurer of the International Viola Society at the time) and for some reason didn't pack the usual change of clothing. I had to buy a few things. LOL (We think my suitcase might have gone to Bombay as there were a lot of people headed there on the flight to Heathrow from Toronto.)

I LOVE fresh curd. Needs to be at room temp to get that squeak and that's the way it gets sold in the Province of Quebec. (Actually enough French around here that one occasionally finds it sold that way in Ottawa too).

Hap - It may vary by state how old a classic car is. Here in Ontario, I think it may be 25 yrs old, but I'm not sure. DH has two with Historical plates - a 1955 Cadillac Coupe de Ville and a 1965 Porsche 356C Cabriolet. Both are now under wraps for the winter. Actually, being an engineer, DH installed a system of steel beams. Drives the Porsche onto them, jacks it up and parks the caddy underneath for the winter. Means we can get a third car into the two-car garage. Somewhere, I think I have a picture of this set-up.

Maria, that cranberry pumpkin cake sounds good. If it lives up to its promise, please post the recipe.

sarv - take care of that arm.

I guess some of you will be travelling or busy cooking. I wish you all a happy Thanksgiving and safe travel if on the road.

Have a good day everyone.

wood,
gorgeous Iris and the GH looks like it will be really wonderful,,,I'm drooling,,,LOL

not sure on the classic status, but if you like it keep it,,,no reason to get a new one

I agree, old standby's are the best,,,,and the easiest, LOL. Hope your feeling better soon from all those muscle aches and pains form painting,,,,that's the pits.

dmc,
Thanks, I also try to count my blessings and not give the other stuff much thought. Sometimes it's harder than others. Have a safe drive.

suzieq,

Morning GOBblers!

(I have been saving that, lol!)

The Pack lost a close one last night, so I went to bed bummed out. And I actually went to BED instead of the couch. Big mistake, that mattress has got to go. I think it is at least half of my back problem and it is only 6 years old, and was very pricey when I bought it. I dug out the paperwork for it and I am going to try to get something back on the "20 year Warranty" that Simmons advertises so much. Maybe one of those "Sleep Number" mattresses? I dunno, but I can't keep sleeping on the couch, there isn't enough room for the critters that insist on keeping me company!

"Nuff for now.

Chicago, IL(Zone 5b)

GOBlers?????? Oh, MG.......I really think you need the sleep...lol

Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)

Good morning. Another beautiful sunny day here and I'll either be inside or in town all day. I have to do some shopping for groceries, get a tire fixed that has a slow leak, will have lunch at the Chinese restaurant with my hubby, and then housework after that. You all might be uncomfortable with my lack of preparations for a holiday dinner for 11 or 12 people, house guests for most of the time from possibly tonight until Sunday, etc, but we just have fun, eat a whole bunch and don't worry about the cobwebs, etc. Maybe I provide some balance here at the coffee klatch. It always works out and we have fun, but I will be glad for the peace and quiet when it's all over.

Repainting is something I should do this winter when I have time on my hands. I thought about doing it last winter too........ just call me a procrastinator. I have far too many "someday" projects.

For those of you who will be traveling, please drive safely and take your time. It's better to get there late than not to get there at all. And for those of you entertaining at home, relax, enjoy it.

Time to get dressed, feed my horses and see what I can accomplish before I need to go to town. Have a great day everyone.

Hi y'all
Wish I was good at responding personally to everyone individually ... but just can't keep it all straight. Please know I read each and every post and enjoy all of it. I know exactly what I want to say until I start writing and then ... POOF ... it's gone! :) So, please excuse me.
The last time the DH and I went to Montana we watched our luggage being taken off the plane as they informed us they had gone over the weight limit by putting too much fuel. Tried to entice people to get off the plane by offering to upgrade their ticket to a first class next available to lighten the load ... but when only a couple folks got off ... they took the luggage instead. Didn't have it for 2 days. I had a carry on, but that's when I discovered you can't put everything in a carry on!
Maria, I too would love to have that cake recipe.
Darius, hope none of your things get damaged.
Hope everyone that's feeling poorly today will rest up and have a better day tomorrow. I'll be busy the next couple days. Will try to check in when I can. Happy Thanksgiving to those who will be away.
... Elaine

woodspirit, GH is looking wonderful!

Sarv, last minute having to host TG is no fun. :(

Maria, dogs can catch a cold?

dMcD, have a safe trip.

Mary, Where do you get your energy?

All the rest I've failed to mention, Have a great day! After the water episode of last nigh, my sister and I are going to a movie, either today or tomorrow depending on snow. Neither of us has been to a theater in many years and we want to see I Walk the Line. She's a big country music fan and I actually like Johnny Cash, probably because the first boyfriend and I danced to I Walk the Line at a summer juke joint on the lake near Ocala. : )

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)

Heard on the news that parts of SC got 4 plus inches of rain. That's a lot! Bet part of that was in ur basement, darius? And the NE is getting hammered now and in the next day or two. Please be careful if ur traveling!!

darius, give us a low down on the movie, it's one I'd like to see.

Too many folks to try to remember - gotta start doing the note thing as I read. Loved the stained glass window, it's absolutely breathtaking. And the deer vest is a beaut too!

mg -Yeah, Vikings won!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I went to bed happy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL! (and by the way, Lowe's bulbs in Dubuque are all half price or less. I chcked out the lilies but they were all dried out. The tulips, crocuses and daffs looked good.)

ws - greenhouse is looking great! envy here.......... :)

hope everyone with aches and pains is doing ok and getting better!

later.....

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Well checking in late today. Sorry about the pancakes, didn't get up in time to make them. Had to have DM to the Doctor's office at 9am, and got up at 8. So didn't have the time. Took forever, just to have blood drawn. I came home stripped our bed and the sheets are in the dryer right now. Friends are taking DH and me out to eat tonight. Looking forward to it.

Sarv, sore arm, aches from painting, and TG dinner to prepare. Pssst, I will have a vacant guest room, run away and come visit me.

To everyone else, hope you have a good day, need to go remake the bed, and some other things before the afternoon is gone. Will check in later.

Defoe ... I've been wondering why my tummy won't stop growling. Now I know. I didn't have breakfast! LOL :)

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

I have been gone since 9 this morning---pant pant pant.

Bought myself two new table cloths - couldn't decide on what color - so got them both!! That's how I solve problems like that LOL

Onto to sons to wait for the lazy boy repairmen - they came and left again and will be back next week (another story not bearing repeating)

Then to the grocery store - spend wayyyyyy too much cashola... then forgot whipping cream, so I'll have to make another trip out tomorrow.

I'm looking for a pecan pie bar receipe (I had it two years ago...) that uses a jelly roll pan and whipping cream. Any of you have one like that? It was out of this world and I have torn my house apart looking for it. Even went online, but didn't find one that had whipping cream.

House is a total disaster and I STILL need to finish painting... so gonna sign off and get busy!!

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)

I have a recipe that uses a jelly roll pan but I don't remember whipped cream being in it. LMK

Hey y'all ... I just found a recipe for refrigerator yeast rolls where you mix them up and put them in a bag overnight and then let them rise for 2 hrs and bake. Anyone ever tried this?

Lake Toxaway, NC(Zone 7a)

Here's how I answer so many questions when I return to a thread. After I see the first question, I scroll all the way down to the reply box and answer it. Then back up and read some more until I find another question or something I want to remark about, then back down and answer that one in the reply box.
darius is not moving away permanently so there is no pod, I assume, she's just gonna be away for the winter.
When are you leaving darius?
Thanks to all of you for your compliments on the greenhouse. I never dreamed I'd have one. We only have about $50 in it so far. I got a glass door a couple of days ago for $3 at a thrift shop, the same one where I've been getting all the glass windows.
sarv, you make it sound like you are painting upside down, lol.
dmc, I wouldn't be surprised if my spousal unit doesn't make a stained glass window. He hasn't taken any classes but he has a lot of talent and is a wonderful potter and wood carver.

Painting is all done and cleaned up - looks good too!! I would like the steps a little darker, but I figure dirt will make them darker LOL

Neither tablecloth works- one wayyyyy too huge and the other clashes with my wall color. Guess what DGS and I will be doing tomorrow. He hates to shop, so I will have to promise him lunch out!

No one found my missing pecan bar receipe yet?? boo hoo

off to chat

Sarv, try this site for your lost pecan bar recipe.

What a crappy day. Anything that could go wrong did. The business trip that I wanted to go on to CA was given to someone else. The other person only wants to go so she can visit her sister at company expense. I have been working on a project, trying to get it done so I can get out early tomorrow and the power went out twice this afternoon.

Came home and DH and stepson re-arranged the living room. I don't like it at all. That was just the icing on my cake!

Sorry, had to vent. One more day then 5 days off. Cant wait.

Sarv - glad you got your painting done. Those pecan bars sound good. Hope you find the recipe. I'm doing a pecan pie for TD.

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

woodspirit1 - I often do just what you do, but somebody, don't remember who, had a great idea of opening another window. You can leave one window at the reply box and scroll up and down the other window reading. (In my case, where I have dial-up), I've even opened several windows and then broken my Internet connection to do the reading and replying. Saves me a lot of Internet time.

sarv - glad the painting is done. Let the arm rest for a few days. Also hope you find the recipe.

suzieq2761 - you sound like you need 5 days off. Hope things calm down and that you enjoy Thanksgiving.

Ann

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

What an awfull day you had, Suzie, and the weather was not kind either, poured buckets here too, had to dry Samson several times after he came in not to mention washing the floors from his wet paws.
Don't l blame you about the moved furniture I would not like it either if I was not about to be consulted.

Phoenix, MD(Zone 7a)

must pop back to say Suz rearranging furniture is strictly for the woman of the house on her whim never anyone else!!!!!
I would be livid!
5 Days off is what you need to put things back to the way they were or should be LOL LOL
MY DH knows better!!!

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)

I agree, Suzie - so sorry for ur bad day, enjoy the days off! Ur rearranging furniture story reminds me of one 2x4 episode may years ago. I came home from somewhere to find the whole livingroom rearranged. I hated it, but the point was, that's my area of expertise(or not), and I don't decide where to put stuff in the shop or garage. I was so upset with him for not asking me, we went to bed angry and he tossed and turned. Then he got up at 2 am and put everything back the way it was!! He still likes to tell me what goes where but never does it without rolling it by me first. And most of the time I don't care, I just want to be consulted!

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

Magoo, you said it! My husband would not have dreamed to move a piece of furniture he also knew better, never even asked, guess he was pleased the way I arranged it.
So Suzie, take magoo's advise

Millbury, MA(Zone 5a)

Hi all,

Happy Thanksgiving ----- thought I'd best wish you all a good one now in case I don't have a chance to post again until its all over!

Casey, good heavens, woman! 30 to 50 people? I thought I was doing well getting everything ready for the usual 14! This year it will be quieter here too. There will only be 7 or 8 of us.

Darius, hope the water didn't get at anything you treasure. Our cellar floods every time we have a heavy rain, but at least it's not as bad as it used to be. We have mildew year round but at least we don't have to wear Wellingtons to go into the cellar when it's rainy any more.

suzieq, hope things get much better FAST! Please try to enjoy the holiday, otherwise it's just a lot of extra work for no reward. I once lived with someone who banned all holidays (even birthdays) and believe me, life gets a bit boring with no high points to the year. At least these days I appreciate holidays more despite the angst and fatigue! Have to say though that I'm beginning to dread the run-up to Xmas! I usually bake 5 or 6 different kinds of cookies and distribute them to family and a couple of neighbors. (We even send a couple of boxes off to England --which costs a small fortune!) This year I've started to wonder whether or not I have enough energy to carry it off. I agree with one of my aunts who said "This getting old is for the birds and I'm never going to do it again!"

Woodspirit, your greenhouse is looking great (and much more substantial than my little plastic version).

Ann, GG, kooger, sarv, 101, Robert, magoobu, mg, kooger and anyone I've inadvertently left out, have a great holiday!

Mary, thanks so much for posting your message! I just can't seem to get my mother to realize that people come here to visit US, not to inspect the house to see if there might be a stray cobweb or dust bunny hiding somewhere. I still maintain that they'd rather be fed than spend time in a completely sterile environment! We do what we can, but there are only so many hours in the day. Speaking of which, it's time to go bake the crusts for the pudding pies!

Bye for now.

Phoenix, MD(Zone 7a)

Yup put it back and set it straight we have last call on furniture- lamps - knick knacks etc.... they get the remote!!!!
