Coffee and... For Thursday Nov 17, 2005

Lambertville, NJ(Zone 6a)

Elaine - Sorry to hear about your fall. Hope you are feeling better very soon. Take it easy!

I was also carrot cake.

Vegas,NV Filbert, SC(Zone 7b)

Okay I want every available 2X4 quickly. DD is going to be ambush when she walks in the door.

She was in a small fender bender last night and even after DH and I both told her she needs to notify the police because there was some extended damage. Now today, I find out she not only didn't call the police, she never got his name or information. How did I discover this information you might be asking. From her insurance agent that just called because he called the police after she left and is now filing a hit and run against her. He rearended her in the beginning.....

18 years and she is as dumb as a bag of hammers......

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

do not care for dessert in general but will NEVER say no to Strawberry shortcake, YUM, especially when shortcake is made from scratch

Just came home , I am amazed how much dog food costs, more then what eat LOL

Elaine, take care, it is awful to fall in a bathroom , nothing soft there, My DH feel there many times always ended up in the emergency needing stitches
You are such a good egg, Sarv

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

What no cheesecake?!?

Well, if I have to choose a second best, it was chocolate on chocolate with carrot cake a close second. LOL

Ann

Well, everyone keeps talking cake, so I went back and found out what y'all were talking about. My eyes lit up at the mention of chocolate on chocolate ... so guess that's me. Ain't too sure bout that, though :-D

(Zone 8b)

(((( Elaine))) thats hugs, please take care, bashing your head about is never a good idea. I do hope the headache disappears soon.
Ernie, I missed it too, your wife is sick? I hope she is soon on the up too.

Tha cake thing was a dead heat between lemon meringue pie, as long as the lemon bit is made properly and not loaded with sugar, and carrot cake!! Which I make a total contradiction!
Can't eat chocolate anything - its not that I don't like it, it HATES me. I get the most horriblr migrains if I even taste chocolate!!
Darius when does that retrograde faze end? It would seem I'm missing two or three very important letters, just had the why haven;t you responded phone calls.

We are off for a week-end away tomorrow, heaven knows how I'll catch up when I get back!!

Carat - I think for xmas each one of us should get each other a 2x4. Then we wouldn't have to waste time sending it across cyberspace! Ouch...what are you going to do????

I just looked at an add in the newspaper and found my NEW xmas tree. We have to have a 6.5ft one with lights and it is hard to find that size - we have a real low ceiling in our lower level. Yahoo - I am a happy camper now!!

Just popped a blueberry pie in the oven - like I need something sweet- It will probably be all gone by tomorrow morning and I will be sick. Someone send me some 'willpower' for xmas please...

I want to go on Oprah's show. Anyone know how I can get tickets??

Central, WI(Zone 4a)

Elaine,

Nice to meet you too. Well, don't do nails ,,,,only my own,,,,when I do other's they lift too quickly ;o( ,,,,, but would be happy to make an appointment for your hair,,,LOL

mg,

Are you ignoring me today?

Kelly

Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)

Hello again. I just lost what I was typing here, reached too far for the shift key and hit something below it with a picture on it. Those are some of the mystery keys. When my cat strolls across the keyboard she often turns things off or on, then sits down smugly as soon as she is across while I try to figure out how to get things looking normal again. I'm sure she laughs.

Elaine, Ouch!! Did you hit the front of your head? If so, you may have some colorful black eyes in a day or so, and if not you will just say ouch every time you comb your hair. Do you know why you fell?

Well, Carat, I hope you will tell your DD that it is her mess and she has to figure out how to get out of it herself. Otherwise she will never learn to be responsible. Oh, I know you didn't ask me but there it is anyhow to follow or ignore as you choose. I hope she has her own insurance policy.

Blueberry pie, YES! Sarv, it's my duty to help you consume the calories. I can justify eating some sugary thing when there is fruit in it. My choice on the above list is carrot cake, followed closely by strawberry shortcake, see, there is something healthy in each one. Of course I don't always think like that when there are brownies lookin at me.

The 7 quarts of tomatoes are in the water bath cooker, almost through processing, and when they are on the kitchen counter in a few minutes I'll be going outside to work.

On the Mercury retrograde thing, just for fun I asked my DH how things went at work yesterday because he has to contact a lot of people in the course of doing investigations and he said just fine. He has to wait for people to call him back, send him paper work, etc. He didn't see any unusual delays. I know things get wild with the full moon, but this Mercury thing is a new one, so I am skeptical. I'm not into horoscope stuff.

Tomatoes are done, I'm outa here.

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

IO1... what a scare! Head wounds bleed a lot, I know. Glad you are okay except for a headache!

I finally made some decisions today! Got the CT Scan moved up to Nov. 28, the follow up appointment with the lung specialist to Nov. 30, and the movers scheduled for Dec. 12. The move date gives me 2 "cushion" days in case of snow or ice before I have to pay another month's rent.

Okus, Mercury Retrograde ends Dec. 4.

BTW, I've a toss up between Brownie and Lemon Meringue pie.

Lambertville, NJ(Zone 6a)

Home from work now. Making stuffed peppers and spaghetti. Just waiting for the water to boil and folding some laundry. Tonight is tea night with mom and sis.

Did someone say blueberry pie? yum yum! I've got the vanilla ice cream to go with it

Carat - I'll send you an extra 2x4 in case you break the first one. Kids are so frustrating

It's gotten much colder after yesterdays storms. Why did you all have to send it here! Oh well, when I can't work outside, it forces me to do much needed work inside like cleaning out some neglected closets.

I got stuff to make 2 x-mas wreaths for the front doors. Hope to get them done this weekend. I want sis to go with me to Michaels and pick out what she wants so I can make her one. She isn't too much into the crafty thing.

Gotta go check dinner, be back later.

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

YUCK - what an awful meal I just had. Venison brats (smelled funky when I was cooking them, so I wouldn't even taste them) rice a roni (gooey, but I ate it), corn from the garden that tasted old (it was...) pie that had a charcoal crust- how does that happen - I had one of those pie rings on it. Ate the filling anyhow. Talk about an unbalanced meal....would ice cream round it out? LOL

Darius - glad to hear that you have your medical things moved up on the calendar. Your stinkin landlord wouldn't even give you an extra day or two?

DH came home from work today in a good mood. Got a call from Walters Gardens wanting to order a weeder (they are major flower growers in the area) They only sell retail, but have the most gorgeous gardens. There was a co-op run thru them for jack frost brunnera a couple of years back. If they get the order he is going to deliver it, set it up, show them and I get to go along. Sure hope things work out!!!

Spent the last hour calling back and forth to my folks in Fla. Their phone doesn't work and they kept asking me to call them. I'm sure I racked up tons of minutes on my cell phone. Oh well, I don't use it much, so hopefully I have extra minutes.

DH is snoozing again - I just hate winter as the evenings are so longggggg and boring here. We need chat nightly. Think Dave would have pity on us for just the winter months???

I did whack off three small branches of my snowbank Brug and stick them in water. This is one brug that just sits there for me. I am going to try plant them in several different places in the garden and see if it likes it in a different place.

Time for another small piece of pie!

Vegas,NV Filbert, SC(Zone 7b)

sarv, I am going to do nothing. It is going to kill me to sit back but she has got to figure her priorities out sooner or later. I would rather it be sooner then later. Just in case she decides not to move with us and stays behind.

Mary, thanks for the advice. Yes, she has her own insurance policy. I know that she needs to figure this whole growing up thing but gosh it is driving me crazy having to stand by and watch..

Why is it that an 18 year old that is a straight A student can't spare a brain cell for the responsibility and priority pool???? Sorry everyone, she just sets me off. Okay I am done.

Darius, I am glad that you are getting your health appointments moved up and giving yourself a cushion is a great idea. I really hope that you dont need it...

Well now I am forced to have the stew for dinner tonight since I took out the meat and then had pork loin instead last night. I guess forced isnt the right word but cant seem to get the brain to think of another....

Hope all are having a good night...

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Carat, you are making the right choice. Tough Love works, albeit slowly.

I have more good news. My sister is off all next week so she's coming up Saturday to spend a week helping me sort and pack! Paying her gas is cheaper than hiring a helper here. Plus, she can take back as much food in containers as her car can hold. I cannot put jars of home-canned stuff in storage here because they will freeze and break.

I also intend to send some of my signed prints back with her, don't want to subject them to strorage where they could get damp and ruined. It's the only valuable thing I have left.

Central, WI(Zone 4a)

My, My, Julie is sure keeping a low profile today,,,

sarv,
Wow, about the only thing that sounded good by your descriptions was the pie filling,,,LOL

CARAT,,
That tough love thing is really hard,,,but,,,maybe the only thing that will work with your DD,,,sorry to hear that things are so hard.

Have NO idea when Bill will be home. Him and one of his friends took the friends' camper up into the National Forest tonight to get it set up for their big holiday weekend (opening of gun deer season,,,,which is ALL he thinks about for a month before) that starts Sat. morning. They take it up there every year,,,,all go up Friday night, play cards, drink way too much beer and then wander around the woods Sat. early A.M. and all day trying to find deer,,,,Sat. is a repeat of Fri. night,,,Sun. is a repeat of Sat. and they come home Sun. night,,,,so,,,VACATION weekend for Kelly,,,yeehaa

Well, off to find Something for dinner.

Kelly

Vegas,NV Filbert, SC(Zone 7b)

Darius, that is wonderful that your sister is going to help you. She sure does run the gambit on teeter totter mood swings.

Oh yes do protect your investment with those prints. I didn't even think of the moisture issues with storage compared to here. I have to heavily oil all my furniture when it is in storage here because of the heat drying the wood out. Thanks for the enlightment....

Elaine how is the head wound???

Vegas,NV Filbert, SC(Zone 7b)

Sarv, dont know how I missed your post above mine. Airhead here..
I am so glad the pie filling was good. I vote for the ice cream, it has vitamin D in it somewhere I am sure, and that is helpful with stress...LOL

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Hi, back again, dinner's over Survivor is on soon, and then two more favorites,so count me in as chocolate on chocolate followed by carrot cake, a real lemon pie not the package pudding kind, and throw in a couple of others, too.

Elaine I hope you only ended up with a bump and the headache is gone. Good on Darius for the earlier appts. She'll be having her upper examined the same day I...oh never mind. Yuck.

Yes, where is Julie? Must have had a busy day. And Sarv, what a meal!! Some days it just isn't worth it. Have a scoop of ice cream to settle it all. I'm certainly going to.

Gardengeek, I grew up in Northern Wisconsin, I know what those hunting weekends are like. I'm not sure they even hunt all that much. I think it's like football, a good excuse to drink beer....

Have a good weekend OKUS, )Carol, we'll try to keep it brief. (snort!!! Like that'll happen!)

And hang in there Carat, let her solve it, even though it's painful to keep silent....been there! She will see the light when she gets her next insurance premium!

Hugs to everybody else.... Will edit for coherence...............LOL

Gotta go. See you in the morning.

Night Gracie.....

Hi folks,

101, hope your head feels better. Does your dog accompany you when you're in the house or just when you go outside? Just wondering if you slipped because of something out of place or "just because".

Good luck to all who have any sort of plan for Thanksgiving! It's finally been decided that I am indeed playing hostess to two brothers, and assorted family. I just have to figure out when I can find time to make all the usual pies. DH is usually a big help with the turkey, etc.

I've seen that "what dessert are you?" quiz before, but I just can't put much stock in it because it's impossible to keep DH out of the ice cream, but I've never met anyone with a deeper loathing of sports in every shape or form!

Glad you've got things arranged for your move, darius.

Now for my big news of the day ------ I've just had my very first on-line gift basket sale! I'm sure it doesn't sound like much to anybody else, but it came as a much needed validation to me of both my design skills and all the work I've been putting into my website for the past couple of months. The classes I've been taking have really made a difference. Whooopeee!

No more time for slacking off. I have the biggest craft fair of the year coming up this Saturday and have to go make more candles.

Good night all.

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

McCool, hi neighbor, happy for you and congratulations! Of course it sounds wonderful any success with their own accomlishments of a DGer means a lot to all of us. Good for your husband to help you with the turkey, mine always did plus getting all the vegetables ready to be cooked. Have you ever made Indian Pudding? My MIL always did and I carried on the tradition.

Central, WI(Zone 4a)

m5,
Yep, It's like a national holiday around here. All the guys go nuts.

McCool,
Good for you, congratulations on your basket sale.

Kelly

Hi all
Just checking in before going back to bed. I'd like to say thanks to each and every one of you for your kind wishes today. I've gone through tonight and caught up. McCool, I don't need my dog in the house. I just fell for no apparent reason. Woke up from a deep sleep and guess my feet started moving before my brain. LOL All I remember was hitting the night stand. Darius is sure right about the head wound. Boy do they ever bleed! I am a bit banged up and will probably be sore for a couple of days ... but no worse for wear. I must admit, I went straight over to your web page to see if it was "user friendly" to my software McCool. Just lovely! :) Really enjoyed it. I'm so impressed with all my DG friends. Y'all are all so tallanted.
Julie must have stayed out of the coffee today. Doesn't look as if she's had a lot to say. If you're out there in ciberspace, Julie ... thanks for the gentle hug. I really needed that! :)
I can't remember what else I've read, but again ... many many thanks to everyone for your kind words today. Nightnight.
Hugs&blessings ... Elaine

Lambertville, NJ(Zone 6a)

McCool - Congratulations on that sale.

Sarv- I've tried everything to get the edge of my pie crust to not burn. If you figure out the trick, let me know. Love some good pie!

Had good vist with mom & sis. Trying to make plans to go shopping together. Not easy to get everyone's schedules together. Sis is doing thanksgiving this year. This is the first time she is doing it on her own. For the longest time I thought she would never be able to boil water, but she has become a very good cook.

I think tonight is going to be the coldest so far. It's about 28 right now.

Well, eyes are closing, time for bed. Good night everyone.

McCool what is the URL for your web site?

Kelly

Merrimac, WI(Zone 4b)

Somehow I've missed three whole threads! There's no way I'll ever have time to read them, so I just have to catch up from here.

Back to the dessert question...I'd have to be chocolate on half a brownie with a half slice of carrot cake!

Jody

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Hi folks. I have been super busy today, but more about that later.

Meezer, Please avoid the mirror, especially first thing in the morning. Last winter DS gave DGD and me a perm. The next morning, when DGD woke up and came down the hall to the kitchen, her hair was really bushy, and standing up all over. I had not looked in the mirror, so I suggested that we go look together. We went into the bathroom, turned on the light, and both screamed at the same time. She immediately, turned on the water and wet hers down. I swear, never again. This was only the second one I have had in my life.

Susieq, I don't mean to question anybodys food preferences, but stuffed peppers and spaghetti in the same meal. Tell me how you serve it.

Mary, I just bougth a pedometer. The first day, I walked about 1.9 miles, the second 2.7, and the third day about 3.4. DH says there is no way that you walk that much. He wore it the next day, and when he took it off that night, his was at 3.5. He says, I walked way farther than that!! I didn't know that giggles would register on them. Will have to be more careful the next time I use it.!! I know you corrected that to read jiggles.

Sarv, so glad you mentioned the pizza incident to your work out buddy. That way she will know what is going on when that particular family member is keeping shop. Sorry about your meal tonight. Some days it just doesn't pay to get out of bed. And the DH thing, why don't you tell him to take his work woes out on this mother, since she seems to be the one who is responsible.

Maria, what in the world is Indian Pudding? I have never heard of it. So is Samson doing well with training?

Darius, please stay your distance, unless you have been decontaminated after that garlic. Love it, but hate the lingering aroma. So glad you got your appointments moved up, and that your sister is coming to help you sort and taking some things back with her.

Ernie, Is Linda sick? I may have missed your post. Jenny's pic was so cute. Glad that she is on the mend.

Okus, please have a GREAT weekend. Seems like your schedule during the rest of Nov, and December, requires that you have a cool, calm head, and get away weekends are great for that. Rest for me while you are at it, or do something fun.

101, I am so sorry to hear that you fell and needed the attention of 911. Hope the headache goes away, and that you don't have black eyes as souvenirs. DH is always bumping into things during the night. One night, I hear this "thump"and ask if he is alright, he says I just ran into the wall, in the bathroom. He has no night vision whatsoever, even with a night light. When you get up during the night, does your dog go with you? DH turned on his side of the electric blanket last night, and Mr. B. lay at his feet the entire night. I am hot natured and very seldom use my sideof the blanket, so I guess Mr. B will spend the winter on the other side of the bed.

McCool, good to hear about your order. Have you posted the URL to your website? I would love to see it, maybe even make an order. Ya know Christmas is coming.

Carat, What in the world are you talking about? Silks in the pool? So I understood your dumber than a bag of hammers, around here it is dumber than a pile of rocks. Tough love is hard on kids and even harder on the parents. But I agree, let her negotiate this on her own, as it is all a part of growing up, taking responsibility and becoming an adult.

GardenGeek, it is already deer season here. Started last Saturday. The neighbor next door has about 10-12 hunters at his place, and of course, they tramp around on our back 40, all claiming that they didn't know that they were trespassing. Used to make a big deal of it, but, now just turn the head. But if the situation was reversed this neighbor would raise holy cain.

Well, I stayed busy all day. Didn't really clean, but picked up and straightened. Went to DM's to help her with chores, but DB was there, he is 67, divorced many times, and is currently single, but comes to DM's once a week "to do laundry" The reality is he hits the bed as soon as he walks in ( as he works nights) and DM does a weeks worth of laundry for him while he sleeps. I told her that while he was there, he could do all the chores that I would have done. Checked with her later in the day, after he had his laundry done by his 86 old mother, who also cooked lunch for him, and he slept so late that he had to go before he got anything done for her, as he was going to be late for work. Boy, do I have an earful for him. Will call him tomorrow morning when he gets in from work.

DH went with his good for nothing brother today to take his tobacco to the warehouse for sale. DH furnished the truck and trailer to haul his tobacco (for free), while I was here picking up his dirty clothes and doing laundry. I really have questioned just why it is that I have a DH here anyway. This house doesn't get dirty or cluttered because of me, I am not the only one who has dirty laundry, and I am not the only one who needs to eat. Oh, Oh, I need the 2x4, as I feel one of those administering attitude adjustments coming on. Darius are you sure the moon is not in the manical stage right now?

Well, off my soapbox for the moment, and am going to take Mr. B and go to bed. He is the only person?? animal, who seems to appreciate anything done for him. He gives me many doggie kisses in a day.

Well everybody have a good night, and sweet dreams.

Oh BTW, I am a yellow with chocolate cake fan. That is if I eat dessert at all.

Hi Jasmerr, don't worry about catching up, can't be done!!

Merrimac, WI(Zone 4b)

defoecat - your post really helped me sort of catch up.

IO1 - I'm glad you're feeling better. I'm like a pinball game when I get up in the night; I bounce back and forth from wall, to doorway, to dresser, etc. If it weren't for all the furniture, I'm sure I'd fall flat on my face. Just because you didn't get stitches doesn't mean it wasn't bad. A break in the skin is the least of worries (internal stuff is more important), but they don't use stitches on your face unless absolutely necessary. Stitches only add to possible scarring.

Maria - how is Samson?

Goodnight, everyone! Take care.
