Yellow Morning Glory (i. ochracea) blooming again

Edinburg, TX

Woohoo!!! My yellow morning glory vines (ipomoea ochracea) are in bloom again. Had to show off the photos of these gorgeous bright lemon yellow blooms. The blooms are about 2.75" in diameter.

Again, WoW!

Are these by any chance closely related to I. obscura? The leaf type and flower structure look very similar but the color is just awesome! Am I right in saying that the rays are a slightly deeper yellow than the rest of the corolla or am I just seeing things :)

Thanks ya'll. The color is a bright lemon yellow...so unlike the i. obscura which is very pale and quite small. The throat on these babies is maroon.

Another thing I noticed is that the new leaves have a bronze sheen to them and appear very details...you can really see the veins and ridges...but as they grow out they turn a normal smooth green leaf. I've also seen many leaves where the tops parts of the heart shape overlap each other or come very close.

Here's a photo from earlier this year - you can see the difference in color on the new leaves.

oh boy, this is so pretty. The seeds I had did not germinate this year. The leaves look big. Hopefully this coming year I can get some going here. Thanks for sharing this photo.. just beautiful.

Flowers look great...How about a closeup of the flowerbud sepals and of the developing seedpods to add to the fund of pictorial knowledge on the differences in closely related species...the flowers look sort of like a larger and darker yellow Ipomoea obscura, but the pedicels remain pointed upwards towards the sky,yes(?)...in contrast to the seedpods of the Ipomoea obscura which reflex and point towards the ground...

The large yellow flowers on this one blend well with the nice healthy looking leaves...Nice plant photos...

Ahhh Ron,

It's dark out now...will have to see if I can take photos tomorrow when I get home from work...if it's not too dark - the sun sets much too soon nowadays. Will try to find new buds to photograph but I haven't noticed any seed pods forming yet Will look through all the vines. If not tomorrow then later during the week. Will also use a ruler for a reference point.

Don't even remember noticing if the pedicels point upward - but will photograph them and the sepals too.

It is such a vivid yellow! Do you have any extra seeds that I could trade with you?
