So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Maria, that seems an apt descrption of Thanksgiving as most of us know it!

Last year I had a Cornish hen, baked sweet potato and a salad.

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

Darius,

That sounds like a lovely TG dinner. Since we will have most of our stuff loaded on that day (in the PODS container) your idea is simple yet delicious.

Yum, I must go to the grocer and get some food.

Molly
:^)))

Lambertville, NJ(Zone 6a)

Why is it that everytime i hear one of you mention snow, its getting closer to the east? The only two good things about snow: DH gets good overtime and sometimes I don't have to go in to work.

Darius, I fully believe in the full moon thing. I worked for a social service agency right after college. All the nutty ones came in or called when the moon was full.

ViolaAnn - your right, the store clerks don't know the difference, Doesn't stop my mother though. LOL. She can be a pip!

Our weather is supposed to change tomorrow. Cold front comming through and could be hard thunder showers.

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Well, I am just through cleaning up the kitchen. The wild turkey was really good. Took a bit longer to cook, and darker too, but good taste.

We are having tornado watches, and severe thunder storm warnings. The weather is turning cooler, as this front moves through. This will be going on all night. So if we lose power, will be back whenever they get it fixed.

Mr. B was mad at me most of the afternoon, over the shot, but as I type, he is laying at my feet. Maria, is Samson sensitive to your moods. Has he figured out that you may have something to do with his getting zapped in the yard?

MG, maybe if they go higher, you will get the full benefits of the shots.

Was it Meezer who is scheduled for a colonoscopy? I need to schedule one too. My last one was 5 years ago. Also, while cleaning up the hosta beds yesterday, noticed my purple Jacamani Clematis is blooming. What a pure delight it was to look up and see that. Now that the cold weather is moving in, he will be gone by tomorrow. Maybe just wishing me well for winter, do you think?

Darius, don't know much about astrology, but do believe that the moon does control our bodies, what with being mostly water, it has to. If it can influence oceans, why not these bodies of water?

Well I am going to check out other threads, so I will be caught up if the power goes.

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

DC, I was not in charge to zapp Samson, his trainer did it, he will do it tomorrow, though I take him for a walk I am not allowed to let him get zapped just walk with him on the leash, by now he should recognice the flags and if he gets too close he will get a little buz not a real zap as he did at first.
He seems to be very calm with me now, always lying by my side sometimes his head on my leg for a long time, he is just wonderful

Daries, I remember when you wrote about your TD last year and how delicious it sounded

Vegas,NV Filbert, SC(Zone 7b)

Darius, I made cornish game hens instead chicken when I had my first apartment. They were smaller and fit in my toaster oven, then I would put what I didn't eat in a pot with water and some more spices, boil it down and pour it over beans or rice for the next nights dinner. Yummy memories....

Hi everyone
As usual ... while I'm gone, y'all yap away. :) I had supper to get out of the way ... clean up and some errands. The DH will have a TG supper at work on Thursday night, so I had to go get my stuff to fix. Will be cooking tomorrow. Am planning to take a pot of turnip greens, sweet potato casserole macaroni and cheese along with a spice cake. He is a senior county employee, so I pick up a bit of the slack for the young people. Darius, I also know that the crime rate is higher when there is a full moon. I'm not sure about the communication thing. I'll start paying attention to that, though. That's interesting, as I thought DG was somewhat slow today.
Maria, goldens are very loyal dogs. You have a real winner there. I came in on the tail in of things, but am so happy he's healed your heart!
defoecat, sure hope your weather doesn't get too bad tonight. Y'all stay safe, ya hear! :)
Well, I've never had to have the dreaded colonoscopy, but know it's coming. I did get a letter the other day telling me I was eligible to sign up for AARP. Uggg! Could not believe that! I don't think of myself as old enough for that. :-(
Okay, I know I've missed a bunch, so please overlook my failure to speak to everyone. It's hard to keep up but I read every word.

Millbury, MA(Zone 5a)

Good evening people,

Dcat, I did mention what I was sewing, but it was some time back (not surprised you don't remember ---- it's a wonder I do!) It only took 2 1/2 months for my brother to get back to me with his wife's size, despite the fact that I had a mutual friend who works with him giving him the 2 x 4 treatment every so often as a gentle reminder. My SIL has always admired Native American leather clothing, but it usually costs $500.00 and up ------ WAY out of our price range. This Summer DH and I bought two deer pelts at the big powwow and I'm attempting to make a nice fringed vest out of them for SIL for Xmas. I've never really been that much of a seamstress, but I have my old treadle machine and they are known for being able to sew just about any material, including leather. Now, having said that, it appears that my machine is throwing a hissy fit about the thick material. I just can't seem to get the stich length to stay constant. Oh well, I should work that well if I get to be a hundred years old! Looks like maybe we should have bought three pelts and I'm going to have to piece it and compromise on the length of the fringe, but it's actually starting to look like something.

Phases of the moon, yeah. If I didn't already believe that it affects us my stint of working in a nursing home would definitely have made a believer of me. Darius, please be careful. Wasn't it last time we had this configuration that you were going from disaster to injury to catastrophe every ten minutes or so?

Okus, sorry you've been feeling lousy. The lampshade is gorgeous--- great work! Casey, glad you've been feeling better. MG, what can I say? That sounded crummy and I just hope they can actually help you out next time. Please keep us posted as to what they're telling you.

I haven't a clue about the Medicare/ new insurance thing but tend to look very much askance at anything coming out of the current administration and is supposed to be for the benefit of the not so well off. My mother has insurance and we have none at all and are not quite old enough to qualify for Medicare. Speaking of which, we got a bill yesterday for 1075.00 for my little trip to the emergency room (that's in addition to the doctor's billing, of course) Disgusting! I should have waited longer and then wouldn't have had to go at all, but it's kind of hard when you're not sure that you're going to be able to breathe at all in the very near future.

Hope everyone's okay and not in the path of any of those tornados. I don't know how you guys cope. It would have me climbing the walls. I suppose it's a matter of what you're used to, but honestly, how in the world do you get used to storms that can suddenly crop up and turn your environment into the world's biggest blender? No thanks, I'll take the New England winter over that any time. Actually, you get the winter stuff too, don't you? Worst of both worlds!

Maria, how's Samson coming along with his lessons?

Sarv, what can I say? Men can certainly be maddening, can't they? There have been plenty of times I've started looking for that elusive 2 x 4. At least my DH and I agree about cats --- his second wife had one as well and I think that he's even more of a feline fancier these days.

Can't remember much more about the preceding threads and am too tired to go check back through all the talk of the last couple of days. I didn't take an antihistamine last night and consequently did not sleep at all. I hate being dependent on those things, but I can't chance it for a second night in a row. Good night all.

Phoenix, MD(Zone 7a)

WOW so busy here I could never keep up but know that I try and am here!

Wishing all a good night tonight hopeing all had a good day if I missed so much it is just because with a kindergartner in the house computer time is getting slow.
Tried chat tonight but so fast cannot keep up ---

Off to put the little one to bed and maybe chill by the tv which I do not think I have done in forvever.

Hugs to all who may not have had a good day-- smiles to all no matter what
Love to everybody!

mg,

Nice to hear from you,,,wish it was better news though. I hope you start to feel some relief soon. Was getting worried when you weren't posting. Well, You take it easy and keep up the doing as little as possible thing.

Take Care,
Kelly

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

GardenGeek, I have neglected to welcome you properly. This thread gets fast and furious from time to time, and if I am busy, sometimes new faces don't register with me. So consider yourself properly welcomed. Someone else probably told you that all the cyber goodies are calorie free, and you can vent, cheer, support others, or just tell us what's going on in your world. We do have an official DG 2x4 for use on noncompliant spousal units, unruly teenagers, or anyone who crosses you, and properly upsets you. All you have to do is just mention that you need it, and who ever used it last will pass it on. Thought I was going to need it today, but my dog to the vet situation has blown over. I think it was the fact I mentioned the $4,000.00 horse surgery.

Ernie, I appreciated the ferry boat pictures. However, the explanations about airplanes staying in the air, and ships float without sinking, though nicely done, just don't penetrate that part of my brain. I think it is one of those "faith" issues. I believe they can fly or sail, and that's all the explanation I need.

McCool, I too was in chat, and it seemed like there were 3 or 4 converstations going on at the same time, and I couldn't make head nor tails of it. Although I have had chat sessions that were very enjoyable. When you started telling about the vest, I remembered seeing your pics. I wouldn't dare undertake anything like that. Hope it turns out well. McCool, people in all parts of the country endure their own brand of weather. Here in Ky. spring-April and May are usually tornado season, but this year it has been so warm, that the cooler air moving in has caused November to be a tornado season also. Yes we also have the snow in the winter, and the heat in the summer. Someone once said, if you don't like the weather (in Ky.) just stay a few days, it will change. And change it does. We have clothes for 4 seasons. Today, I have had on a sweatshirt, short sleeves, cotton lounge pants, and a terry robe. This is all in just about 14 hours.|!! And in the morning, probably a winter coat!!

Sarv, that beef stew sounded really good. I have a great recipe where, you just put all ingredients in a dutch oven, on 300 degrees, and cook for 4 hours. Just beef, any veggies you want, canned tomatoes, salt, pepper, 4 tbs tapioca, and wala, good hearty meal, with cornbread. The tapioca thickens it, and you don't even know it's in there.

Maria, when you said Samson lay with his head on you foot/leg, that is just exactly what Mr. B. does when I am sitting reading, or at the computer. I have a house cat, Miss Boots, who likes to cuddle with me in the evening. When Mr. B sees her trying to get in my lap, he just jumps in my lap as if to say, "uh uh you're not getting my mommie" I just sit there and laugh. They are both so jealous of my time with either of them. I usually give her her "mommie" time while he is outside.

101, you could have that TG dinner at your house if you would just throw in the turkey. I understand, young folks, just don't get the pot luck idea do they? DH and I are going to a TG dinner tomorrow night, at the church of a former pastor. Went last year, and it was super. So much food that we could have fed another 75 or so. The provibial fish and loaves story.

DS is wanting us to come to his girlfriend's father's house for thanksgiving. We know and like her, but have only briefly met her father, and there will be other family members there. Don't really want to go, but DS is feeling sorry for us because we were disinvited to my sister's for thankgsiving dinner, and had no plans. We may just go out to eat on TG. Haven't done that, and it may just be fun. The sister who disinvited us, is currently in the hospital with pneumonia. Called today and asked when I was coming to see her. She is one of these people who can walk all over you, and then turn around and wonder why you seem distant. Has not a clue that she has hurt your feelings.

Well, we have had some thunder, lightening, rain, and some wind, but all the storm warnings/watches have been cancelled. So can go to bed and feel somewhat safe. And that is just exactly what I am going to do. Still taking the pm, pain med, and boy it is really helping.

Sleep tight everyone, and will check in with you GOB's in the morning.

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

The storm front with all the tornadoes is now moving towards my area, probably by midnight. SO, the computer will get unplugged before bedtime and I may not have power tomorrow. It goes out so often here.

Nite, Gracie.

Vegas,NV Filbert, SC(Zone 7b)

Please be careful and stay safe Darius

Well, I'm off to bed also. As for the TG meal ... that's a county affair which the ladies are "asked" to bring dishes to. :-D I really don't have a say, so it's just one of those DW things that we do for our DH's. I definitely would not want it at my house. Now my in-laws are coming for TG day, and that's a completely different story. I enjoy having them. That's the only time I have to stay in my own home and make my own memories together with my DH. Okay, I think I've been on that soap box before, so just pass that 2x 6 on over and I'll straighten out. LOL
Everyone have a safe and restful night.
Hugs&blessings ... Elaine

Vegas,NV Filbert, SC(Zone 7b)

Defoecat, wow what a book, I didn't realize I missed so much until I read your post.

I tried to get to chat, my children saw things differently. I was suppose to start back to work today, but my boss wont let me back until I have a written release from the doctor and of course he is out of town and no one in his office. There is that moon and stars proof you all were looking for...
I managed to get all the windows washed, inside and out. Plus all the glass in the picture frames around the house. I usually just wipe them down, but twice a year I will actually clean the glass really well. I am always amazed how dirty it gets.

McCool what size needle are you using??? The minimum size should be a 16 but I usually will go to an 18 with denim or heavier material. Also check the tension to see if the thickness of the material is causing it to pull making the stitches uneven.

Okus, awesome lamp shade. I have redone a few but nothing quite that fancy.

IO1, I understand the DW for the DH thing. I have to make an apple pie, pumpkin pie and Cinnamon ice cream for mine. So far. Oh and we are supplying all the paper and plastic. But then TG party is still a week away. So we will see what else gets added..

Hi to Magoobu and baby bu, Maria and Samson, M-G (hope your back is feeling better),
GG- (Welcome),Meezer ( I have a SIL up for grabs, are ya willing??), Suzie-(enjoy your weather; at least you have some), DR (glad you are settling back in), Molly ( I wish the best TG for you, I love cornish hens), Sarv, having stew for dinner tomorrow night and its all your fault.

Have a wonderful night and stay safe everyone with weather coming at them fast....

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

Is there a new thread for the 16th?

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

Where' Julie??? If I knew how to start a new page, I would....

Well dinner last night was a bust. How can I mess up veggie soup - it was abolutely tasteless!! What a disappointment. Plus I made a loaf of potato bread in my breadmaker and it burned and didn't taste good either. I didn't use bread flour, so part of the fault may have been my own. I was in a snit. Then DH didn't like the show I was watching, made an unkind comment, and the next thing I knew he was in bed!! I hate sitting alone at night - even if he sleeps in the chair it is ok. All in all a rotten evening - was it the moon thing causing this???

Wed, are my do nothing day- no work out - just veg and do what I want. I have a boat load of brugs de-leafing in the barn and I need to get them up to the house for their winter quarters. We have a high wind warning going on, so I may not be able to do it. DH is whining as he needs to get the trailer in the barn and my brugs are in the way.

Need to pickup DGS at daycare today. He told me to be there at 3:39 - always gives some odd ball time. I am fixing dinner for him and DS - DIL is eating out with friends - again. It will either be spaghetti (easy) or burritos (harder and necessitates a trip to the store)

Hope the weather didn't cause too much problem for everyone. No tornadoes here! Off to surf.

Does anyone know if Julie was having anymore problems? Went over to the Parking Lot to see if she started a new thread and forgot to post the link, but she didn't. Hope she's feeling okay. Sorry Julie if you're out there. Cant help being a mother hen.
Hope everyone made it through the threats of bad weather.
I neglected to mention yesterday that one of the DH's people he works with has a birthday so it was decided they'd cook breakfast for him. I don't know who thinks up this stuff. Anyway, the DH wanted to cook grits in the crock pot so they'd be ready when he got up to leave this morning. Great idea for him. I got up every couple of hours to stir and check on them. They're very good, so he'll be a hit. ;)
Will do my cooking for tomorrow today. :) I'm actually tired and want to go back to bed.
sarv, sorry your supper didn't turn out last night. My chick marsala didn't do right the other night either. Made me mad. I usually buy my chick breast in large family packs when they're on sale, divide them up and put them in qt. freezer bags and then place them all in those 2 gal freezers so none will get lost in the freezer. Well, the other night I found 2 lost bags that were a bit buried so I used them in the marsala. It was old, and I couldn't eat it. Took the chicken out and saved the sauce. I cooked more chicken last night deglased the pan again with more marsala and used the sauce and managed to salvage the recipe. It's so agavating, though, when supper's a wreck. We wound up having frozen pizzas that night!
Carat, will you come and clean my windows, please. I hate that job! :)
Okay, I'm off to check my threads. Hi to those I've missed.
Hugs ... Elaine

Hope Julie is OK
Sorry Salv about your not so good dinner, it happens some times to all of us
Never had any brugs, they sound like a lot of work, lugging them in for the winter and again out for the summer
It is very warm here and misty, Samson will have another fence trainingsession in an hour, he is learning fast.

Maria- hang onto your hat -the cold weather is heading your way!! I'm bundled up in my warm weather clothes - fleece tops!! Love them - can't have too many of them!

Crazy cat wants to go out in this weather - I swear she is having a 'cataffair' - crazy girl!! I'm gonna play until 9 - then get the booty in gear.

Oh, we're getting a generator for xmas - can anyone give me tips on what to look for and what size?? I'm clueless

OOPS, a new link while I was gabbing....Oh, well...too lazy to edit the whole thing so I'll leave it as is.

I guess it's still yesterday, so I'll post here. Got a kink in my back yesterday, don't know what caused it but finally hauled out the heating pad and that helped a lot. Doesn't feel too bad this morning but I'm going to give it another heat treatment and catch up on some stuff I recorded. Good excuse to be a layabout for a while. DH did offer to give me a back rub,but I thought...well never mind....LOL Hope you are all are over your various ailments, aches, etc. and today will be a better one. You forget how good it feels to be well, and how little we appreciate it when we are.

Chili turned out good, have enough left over for another meal. The cornish hens sound good for an easy TG meal, I've done that and we usually end up splitting one and saving the other for something else. After you add a couple of veggies and a salad, and some potatoes, half is quite enough.

Why are we so tuned in to our DH's moods and wants? They seem to operate on a different plane and unless we specifically mention we are upset, uncomfortable, in pain, or unhappy, they just go on their merry way. However, they make it very evident if anything affects them and expect us to jump to attention and solve the problem for them.....Must be the testosterone.

I fully agree about the full moon crazies though. It has been shown time and time again that it results in more accidents, violence, instability, and even causes more bleeding from cuts or wounds. I'm not quite as certain about the predictions based on astrology, but I wouldn't poohpooh a warning either!! An acquaintance of mine relies on her mother's astrological charts faithfully, in spite of the fact that her mother has been seeing marriage in her future for the last 30 years and it hasn't happened yet.!! Considering the comments we make, maybe it's a warning and not a prediction!!

Regarding the contribution young folks make to potluck dinners, dont expect much more than chips and dip in my experience. Even for family dinners, grands can't seem to manage more than dessert from the supermarket. Even though I rely more and more on prepackaged meats and such because I am sick to death of cooking and cleaning up, I wouldn't want to show up at a potluck without something home made.

We are getting snow hints from the weathermen, but so far it's just gloomy and nasty outside. Haven't caught any more mice, but when I put the traps down in the lower garage, I checked the doors, and there are such gaps under and alongside the doors, I'm surprised we haven't had more of them. I'm putting magnetic shields over the two heat vents down there, if DH wants to warm it up to work there he can take them off. They close, but not tightly and I don't feel like paying to heat unoccupied space with the expectation of high heating bills this winter.

Dcat, good move on the $4000 horse bill. Pays to keep those things in mind, for use at the appropriate time. They have such convenient memories~~

CARAT, keep your SIL, I don't want her....or anybody elses PITA relatives!! She sounds like a real prize, imagine " Don't come for dinner, but be sure to visit me in the hospital....." !! I hope you are too busy to go! We went out for TG dinner last year, and the turkey was good, but no leftovers.....If we don't go anywhere this year, maybe I'll sign up for one of those turkey dinners at the supermarket so we can at least have turkey sammiches later.

Ugh no more nice ripe tomatos. My last greenies I brought in didn't ripen well, only used one,and threw the other two out as they were not looking good. Last winter I opened a can of whole tomatos and used them in a spinach salad, with a bacon dressing. Not too bad, considering how awful those tasteless ones from the store are in winter.

McCool, the suggestion about the larger needle is a good one, it makes for less stress on the thread tension as it goes through the leather. And if the leather is thick, they get dull pretty fast. I wanted to go back and see the photo but can't remember in which of our gab sessions you put it on....

Sarv, I laughed about your burnt bread but only because it reminded me of my first effort with my bread machine. I messed up the timing selection and ended up boiling the yeast/flour/water mixture!! Humiliating experience for someone who's been baking bread for nearly 60 years!! Dern newfangled stuff!! LOL

I've rambled on long enough....if I knew how to set up a Wednesday coffee, I'd do it, but I, too, plead ignorance. Have a better day and I'll see you all later. If I haven't mentioned your name, know that you are in my thoughts. I have so many best friends here!!

I really do not poohpooh it either, M5, just thast I am not certain about it, I remember fil used to say, you will have this baby when the moon is full, lol, well never had one when this was the case and I had 4 of them. Was always turned into my DH moods, but he was the quiet type, very seldom complained about any thing and when he did I would get very upset to think I did some thing wrong. I remember one thing very clearly after we were married a few weeks, I told him something about what his mother said to me that upset me, he said, to me, if you have a problem with either one of my parents, YOU have it out with them, do not ever put me in the middle, now that was telling me, lo, and I never did complain about them again
Had cottage cheese with pineapple for supper, big deal!
