Hi folks,

Just checking in, but I'm really too fuzzy right now to remember much of what I read in the last edition of this thread.

Hap, nice to hear from you again, but I 'm really sorry about all the damage to your plants and house. I hope at least that you and DH enjoyed most of the cruise. You didn't say much about it at all.

Darius, glad you made it back okay and that the plants seem to have survived the journey well. It sounds like it was a productive trip all around.

Ann, just in case you're not on here much for a while, I want to wish you successful and enjoyable concerts (and no security snafus!)

mg, I can definitely empathize, but hope they can really help you with the pain. I don't remember whether or not you'd had chiropractic treatment. That helped me with some very nasty back pain a while ago.

sarv, seems like your DH ought to know that you can't do too much with your arm in the condition it's been in for some time now. I know that if MY DH even thought about trying to go out and cut wood, I'd be looking for the numbers for the local ambulance services and EMT's! The sight of him with a power tool in hand is enough to scare the bejeebers out of me.

Speaking of that sort of thing, we all had an extremely lousy night last night. I came downstairs looking for my book, having already taken an antihistamine in preparation for going to bed. DH was already snoring. I found my mother with phone book and phone in hand ----- a bit unusual at around midnight, to say the least, so I enquired and found that she was concerned about her blood pressure being too high and her arm felt "funny". The ambulance was called and all three of us spent the entire night at the ER. It became apparent that they didn't think that there was great cause for concern and when 5:30 AM rolled around, she decided that she'd had enough of waiting for a doctor to appear and got ready to leave. The nurse then admitted that all the lab tests, etc. had come back just fine. The main problem is twofold ---- both my mother's regular doctor and the ER nurse told her that she takes her blood pressure way too often. When it isn't as low as she thinks it should be (from all the articles she reads!) she gets all upset and sends it higher. The second thing is her usual holiday tizzy. Somehow I just can't convince her that my brothers aren't all set to come into the house and go directly to her bedroom to discover a stained ceiling tile, etc. OY! We're all about ready to keel over at this point, so good night all.

You all have had interesting times today. I will not even try to comment on all. Except to say, Darius, glad you are home, Hap, so sorry for the damage to your house and plants. Can't even imagine something like that.

Well, my day was, went to a friends craft fair, bought some christmas ornaments, and a snow man figure to post in the front on the house. Then went to the artist guild craft show. Boy were things expensive there. Bought a knife sharpener, and a gallon of cider. DGD had a friend over this morning, DH agreed to stay till I got back from the craft things, to watch the girls. They rode horses, bikes, played "store" and several other things. They really get along well together. Went out to eat tonight, Chinese, a new restaurant, and it was pitiful. Came home and an hour later was eating a ham sandwich. DGD and I did some crafts tonight. I am making mosaic flower pots as Christmas gifts, and she really enjoyed helping. She will be gone for 2 days next week, then will be here for the Thanksgiving break at school. It was a very non productive day. A neighbor and friend, stopped by at 5:00 this afternoon, and left 2 trays of pansy's that her son and DIL had grown in the greenhouse. I will be planting them tomorrow. Well, I am off to bed, as I have to get up early and take DM to church. Got most of my cooking for tomorrow done this afernoon, making fresh yeast rolls, so that will be my MAIN COURSE. Just love bread. Well good night all, sleep well, and awake refreshed.

Gosh, no wonder I couldn't find y'all! :) Started early over here, didn't ya! Well, went shopping and bought a new dress. Had seen it the other day but didn't want to pay that much $$ for it and found it on sale todayfor $31.19 and it was regularly $78.00. :-D Then the DH took me out to Mexico. Bless his heart. He gets a hamburger. Takes me there cause he knows how much I like it.
Sounds like everyone had a busy day today.
McCool, am glad there wasn't anything to your DM's symptoms last night. Better safe than sorry. Going to the ER can sure be a headache. That's enough to drive anybody's BP right out of the roof. ;)
defoecat, sounds like you had a great time at the craft fair. I love going to those things. You can really get some very nice gifts. Several of our local women's volunteer groups do that around this time of year. Doesn't it just make you sick to go out to eat and it turn out crummy! I don't mind spending $$ when it's good, but hate spending even a little when I don't enjoy it.
Well, got to turn in as tomorrow will be here in a hurry and will have to get up for church. Y'all all sleep tight and don't let the bed bugs bite!

IO1, DH took me to Mexico for lunch and then to Italy for dinner. Yummy...And good shopping. I am so cheap when it comes to clothes for me. I start figuring out yardage and material cost and get so frustrated with the companies that I have to walk away....

McCool, I had to laugh when my mom would try and rationize some of her more creative medication dosages. A few times she self medicated herself with a blood thinner that had her wearing a parka in July in Vegas. Going to have to see if I can find that pic for ya all. She looks a bit out of place near the pool. Funny now but those ER visits were hard to handle at times.

Craft fairs are so much fun. We only have a few here a year. Not really a country crafty type of town I guess. I have seen and read of over a dozen in the last few months in the area I am moving too.

Hey I am really thinking of getting a pig after we get settled in at the new house. I need to research some more, but figure I already am getting chickens and goats. Whats a farm with out a fourlegged plow. LOL

Hope all are having or did have a great Saturday night

Hi all
Just checking in.

Went to a "thanks" dinner at the pastor's house with the other ladies who cleaned their house with the Mrs. was carrying a problem pregnancy baby. Baby was born 9/29 and is now up to 6 lbs (my own birth weight) so she's doing fabulously. The kids waited on us (Samuel 7 and Macy Joy 5) and we all got to pass Savannah around.

In a few hours I have to be up and ready to sing and make nice with the other wonderful people at my church but I couldn't sleep.

We had 16 rolls of film developed that were sitting around the house - some from before 1999! Interesting!! I have decided to change my hair back to the reddish blonde it used to be instead of the streaky blonde it is now. I may have the hair lady frost it with reddish blonde next time to get the same effect. Would that work?

Worked outside in the garden today picking bad baby tomatoes out of the garden soil in the raised beds. Pulled out all the marigolds, etc. too and left just 3 brussels sprout plants in one and a cayenne pepper plant in the other. The cayenne is just not red yet - full size, and the other day I bit one to see if it had heat - whew! does it have heat! Should I pick them and pull out that plant too?

We are having Indian summer, what a delight! DH is almost done with the leaves.

Today (the 13th) is my nephew's 8th birthday. Just looked at his 5th and 6th birthday pictures... so cute, and he's grown so much. For those who pray, his mother is the one with parts of her brain dislocated from each other from a concussion. She needs prayer since only God can fix the problems associated with it. Thanks...

OK everyone have a good morning and I'll talk to y'all later when I get home.

Good Morning!! It is SOOO windy again here today - if I fly off, someone grab my shirt tails please!!

Hey, checked out the mug this morning and it's not bad. Final judgement will be when it is light out. I may have just found a new beauty treatment!! I remember a good one tho. When DH and I were dating and decided to spend a day at the beach, he came to pick me up and was dark nut brown. I thought ' man, what did he do' We laid on the beach and then decided to hit the water. Getting out of the water, I looked at him and he was ALL streaks - with absolutely white knees! It seemed he put wood stain on his body...can you imagine!! He still does stupid things like that too....(turpentine on poison ivy etc)

Janie- get yourself a digital camera- it is so much better than a regular one and so much cheaper - you never get pics you don't want! I have an inexpensive one and just love it. Sorry about your nephew - is his mom in the hospital still?

Yikes, spending the night in the E room - not fun. I remember going there with my gall bladder last year - I was having back pains and arm pains with it and they got me in a bed before I could sit down in the waiting room! Then told me the tests showed some heart involvement - 2nd test negated that tho - thank goodness. My MIL fights continually with the doc about her meds. One time he got so frustrated with her, he told her to take what she wanted - she would be dead in a month. That shut her up...

Haven't heard from my kids all weekend. And I've called them both several times- they have caller ID too!! Probably just not answering....LOL

Well, time for me to start eating again - I'm starved...

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

Good morning, every body!
was up at four but went beck to bed, Samsom is so good he does not mind at all when I am doing that.
This is hilarious, Sarv, about your DH an his fake tan, LOL
Good for you, Casey, about getting live stock. When we lived in the old farmhouse we had about every thing there is, milking cows, cattle, sheep, pigs, goats and chickens. They were my husband's hobby and this city girl had to learn fast, LOL

Did you see I posted new pictures in pets?

thanks all of you who welcomed my friend, Debbie, she is away right now but soon you will hear from her.
Sorry about your, Mother, McCool, hard to take care of parents, they always seem to hear a different tune from the rest of us.
See you later,

Mornin' all!

I just have to tell you about where I took DH for dinner last night (his b-day is Monday). We went to Texas de Brazil - it's a Brazilian steak house, but with a twist. You have a disk on your table for each person (about the size of a half-dollar). It's red on one side and green on the other. After you help yourself to this HUGE salad bar (not just the average thing either) - and you're ready to begin - you turn the disk from red to green and men with long skewers of meat - lamb, pork, chicken, beef - come to your table and offer you all these wonderful varieties of meat! Let's see-we had parmesaon chicken wings, pork loin Brazil, filet mignon wrapped in bacon, lamb chops, Brazilian sausage (very good!), top sirloin, leg of lamb and I think that's all. There were other cuts that we didn't get to try ...too full. All of this comes with garlic mashed potatoes, fried polenta and baked plantains covered in cinnamon and sugar (to cleanse the pallet between meats!). Then of course we had to have desert. DH got the biggest piece of turtle cheescake I've ever seen and I got their speciality - Banana's Foster pie. It was quite an experience. Ain't cheap (we spent $130 for the two of us! - only one glass of wine!)....but it was something we'll do again on special occasions. And talk about service....oh my - I've never seen such attentive wait staff - we asked for nothing - it all just appeared! Here's the website if you're interested in seeing it. www.texasdebrazil.com I'd say if you ever get the chance - and can afford it - go! It's something else.

Needless to say - we were zombies the rest of the evening. I'm not even hungry for breakfast this morning.

It's warms and rainy here today - weird weather for November! Where's the cold????? We have one peak on our house that we haven't painted yet - and I was so hoping to get to it today .....oh well.

Anyone got big plans for Thanksgiving? My MIL (AudreyJo) and FIL are coming here - since we've still got Penny-pooch from New Orleans. DH is going to brine and fry a turkey again this year. It's really good - about the only way he likes turkey. This year we're doing an apple cider brine - should be good! I've got to get the house cleaned up before then I guess. Especially since their bedroom has stuff all over the place - can't even walk in that room. I'm such a slob!

Everyone have a great day - hope I didn't make you drool too bad.

Marcia

Silver Lake, OH(Zone 5b)

Marcia that Brazilian steak house sounds fascinating! We'll have to save our pennies.

sarv48- I do have a digital but we had a backlog of these photos that never got developed and finally took the plunge and got them out of our hair. We are hoping to get a new digital with a better megapixel and video maybe for my 50th birthday (but I also want a laptop with wireless, so who knows? Probably will get a plunger.)

My sister has been out of the hospital for a while but she's really weird. She can't taste or smell and she has no emotional highs or lows... nor sense of humor. No short term memory and little long term memory. Can't sleep lying down because she gets dizzy and then gets sick. Terrible headache 24/7. She's a nurse in the special care nursery for little preemies... a wonderful nurse, too.. but she was off 7 weeks after this injury and still had to take an additional week because of the pain and her lack of abilities. The limbic system in her brain jarred loose from the rest of her brain. Please pray for her.

Sorry to hear of the ER visit.. ugh.

I had a rough night myself - lots of pain and insomnia, of course, we have to be at church early this week... figures, huh? Wearing the TENS unit now to get my shoulders to stop spazzing.

Hope you all have a blessed Sunday!

Peace,
Janie

Memphis, TN(Zone 7b)

Janie - yes - save your pennies and come to Memphis - We'll go eat! Also - I'm so sorry about your sister. Have you and her in my prayers. Hope you get some rest later today!

l01, you're my kind of shopper. If its not on sale, I don't get it. I love a good bargain. DH gets a little ticked at me sometimes because I am SOOO cheap.

That Brazilian steak house sounds awseome. I will check out the website when I'm done here.

DH and I had a wonderful evening last night we went to one of our favorite restaurants and had the best dinner we ever had there. One of their specials was Filet Mignon and scallops. It was very very good. The Willie Nelson concert was good also. He did a variety of old and new songs, a couple gosbel songs and a couple Hank Williams songs. DH bought me a copy of his book "The Facts of Life". I'll let you all know how it is.

Sarv, that tannig story is too funny! Men!

Waiting for the washer to finish, then its outside to do some more cleanup. Went to the grocery story this morning and still have a few things to put away.

Hope everyone has a great Sunday afternoon!

BetsyBug: Sounds like my kind of restaurant! (Except I don't eat much at one meal anymore.) I still remember my first "date" at a fancy restaurant when I was barely an adult in Miami. It was Portuguese, with waiters hovering everywhere. Everything was fantastic.

In the 45 years since then, I have travelled and eaten extensively all over the East Coast and eastern Canada to the mighty Mississippi and a bit beyond. Out of all those years and meals (usually on a company expense card) only about 10 restaurants and meals really stand out. So consider yourself very fortunate!

Sarv, the wood stain story is funny!

Maria, guess I'd better check out the pet forum for Samson!

Lake Toxaway, NC(Zone 7a)

Casey, where are you moving to?
Betsy, the Brazillian Steak House sounds fabulous.
We are having a very late fall, here too. My brugmansias were slow growing because of all the cool weather and rain this summer and NOW they are loaded with buds. I keep praying they open before the cold finally gets them.
Following all that rain, we have had a terrible dry spell. No rain for over a month; very rare here. But we have a storm moving in now that looks like it will last for 2 days. Here's the weird thing: we have a very steep gravel road leading into our little development. I am over the fund to have the road graded and have gravel spread. We had it graded about October 15. The steepest part is now very washboardy. But when it rains, the road smooths out.

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

grrr- I have a squirrel that will NOT stay out of my feeders. I just got the bb gun out and it is sitting by the door. Look out Mr. Squirrel!! Normally we don't have any squirrels around here, but we have a nut case neighbor up the road who traps them elsewhere and brings them here. I wouldn't mind, but they run down the hill to my house.

Still terribly windy here and I am freezing. I'd like to touch a fire off, but DH tells me to get my hinny in gear and I will warm up! He's right - I've been sitting on the computer or reading all day long. I probably should MOVE!!

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

I'm cleaning seeds!!! Please, NOBODY sneeze!! LOL

Good Morning...(It's still morning here for 15 or so more minutes!)

Dinner out (especially with Scallops) sounds SO good! Glad the concert was a good one!

Sarv...you sound like me with the rabbits this spring. I accidently *got* one! But I doubt if the community missed it in the least.

HUbby coming up the stairs...I got to get dressed! Ooops!

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Well, I am back from church (DM's). I have been away from my church 3 weeks. The deal was that I would take DM to her church one sunday, then she would go with me the next week to mine. Don't know how that happened. Anyway, her church is an early service, so I was home before DH and DGD, and had lunch on the table. I am doing laundry, only because DGD had nothing clean to wear, so trying to save her mom some labor. Have to have her home by 3:00, so, it will be rushed.

Our weather here is windy and it is misting rain. I wanted to get my pansies in the ground today, but don't think that's going to work out.

Okay who had the fablous meal? Don't want to scroll back, That sounds wonderful. I have had some memorable meals, like Darius, but when you get the good food, and the service, it makes for a pleasurable experience. One that stands out in my mind is a Spanish restaurant in Sarasota, Florida. The food was delicious, and waiters in tuxes, at your side before you knew what you needed!! There was a flan that would absolutely melt in your mouth, and I am not a dessert eater.

JanieJoy, so sorry about your sister. My oldest sister was in a car crash several years ago, and she too lost all sense of smell and taste. Her behavior was very bizarre for quite some time, but eventually she got back to normal. Those head injuries take a long time. DH had head injury 15 years ago, and his personality changed so drastically. From an easy going guy to a very critical, personality. I though, if this is the best it is going to be, I don't think I can take this. But about a year, and he was back to normal.

Well, to Sarv, Maria, Carat, Meezer, susieq, 101, and anybody else I missed, happy sunday to you all. I will check in again tonight, after getting DGD home, and church.

Vegas,NV Filbert, SC(Zone 7b)

Janie - I am so sorry to hear about your sister. Brain injuries are so mysterious to doctors. My prayers are with her and your family.

Betsy- we have a couple places that serve Brazilian cruisine and that is the style of service they all demand. We haven't had one that used the disk before, one here has a card on the edge of the table that you slide back an forth to continue the meal and another uses a light at the center of the table that is also used as a lighting for the table. Was the meat prepared in an open kitchen not far from your table? My favorite, DeLonzo's does that. I love the pork loin.
And it is very expensive here also..Cheaper then Bobby Flay though...and tastes better...

Suzie- how can you listen to Willie Nelson through a whole concert. I love some of his songs, and have his CD's but after maybe two songs of listening to him sing through his nose I have to take a break and then come back.....

Sarv, well I know exactly what your DH's skin looked like all streaked, poor guy. I have to take his side on this one....

Woodspirit, I am moving to a small community called Filbert. It is directly in the middle of York and Clover and about a half hour drive south of Charlotte. Where is Lake Toxaway? We are just in the final stages of closing on a 14.4 acre piece of property there. We wont be moving until January of 2007, but will be doing various projects during the year before we move to get things ready. Such as the massive garage DH has decide is a must. I really am not fighting back to much as I like the idea of how it will be set up also. Just not letting him know just in case I need leverage for a later project I want but he is not thrilled with..

I hope everyone is having a wonderful Sunday.

Casey

Ann, we're going to have you get a cheaper ISP service...70 hours just isn't enough! LOL I know *I* would never make it on 70. And, gee, it just dawned on me...you have to UPLOAD to your site in that amount of time. I remember dialup as being terribly slow on the upload. (Not that my satellite is any better, let me tell ya.)

I've considered more hours, but then I sometimes think of all the things I used to do before I got glued to the computer. I just think I'm going to have to restrain myself until I get a new computer. At that time, I'll most likely go to high speed, always connected. And since this thing runs Windows 98, the time for the new computer may be coming sooner rather than later. Once I retire from the Food Cupboard, I won't have a good reason to keep the real dinosaur which still runs DOS (remember that) and Windows 3.1. LOL I keep it because I haven't found a data base program that works any better than Paradox 3.5 for DOS (Not even Paradox 7 which we have). But when I retire, it won't be MY problem any more. ;-)

McCool - thanks for the good wishes. But I'll check in daily. Reading and responding while not connected will help a lot. And on Thursday, I get another whole 70 hours to last through Dec. 16.

The concerts are Ottawa Symphony on Nov 21. The Daphnis and Chloë is always challenging - in large part, following the road map as it is divisi into 2, then 3 then back to 2 - changing every few bars. Divisi by 2 is done inside-outside on the stand. Divisi by 3 if done by stand. For this concert, I'm in 5th stand of 7 (we also move around in the section) which means we play the middle line when divided by 3. The first time I encountered Daphnis, I cut and photocopied a special part for my stand partner and myself to help with following which line we had to play. It goes so fast, there is not time to think about it as it comes. Then we've got the Weber Jubel Overture - lots of notes, really fast (counting 1 to a bar of 4/4 time), and in a horrible key for a stringed instrument - E major which means most open strings cannot be used as they are sharped. I think BOTH Daphnis and Jubel have sections which will be faked. LOL We'll see. First FULL orchestra rehearsal is this evening.

"Come Sing Messiah" for which I play in the orchestra kicks off the Advent season on Friday Dec. 2. This event is organized by CAMMAC (Canadian Amateur Musicians - Musiciens Amateur du Canada). A large church in Ottawa - capacity about 1100 - is packed with people who bring their own copies of the score and come to SING Messiah. We start with orchestra and soloists rehearsal at 4:30pm. After about an hour, a short break while the 750-800 people singing warm-up. (The balcony accomodates another couple hundred as audience). Then another rehearsal till about 7:30 with the "choir". A break and some sandwiches, and then at 8:00 we run it. Perfect it isn't, but you can't beat it for spirit. A GREAT way to kick off the season.

The handbells at the Embassy are on Nov 9. I expect that as long as we follow their rules, there will be no problem with access. Am glad I gave it a test run so I know exactly what to expect. We also play in church on Dec. 11 (and Nov. 27).

And the second orchestra (Ottawa Chamber Orchestra) has a Christmas program on Sunday, Dec. 18 and Monday, Dec. 19. Music will include excerpts from Nutcracker, Siegfried Idyll, Peter and the Wolf, and some Leroy Anderson fare such as Sleighride.

Good luck with your DM and the blood pressure situation. Has this been going on for long? Hope you get some rest.

IO1 - great bargain on the dress.

Casey - I'm with you the cost of clothing. But what REALLY gets me is the large quantity of clothing that has to have special treatment on cleaning. I've come to terms with not having enough time (or talent, probably) to make all my own things, but I hate paying big bucks for something that's poorly made of crappy fabric.

Janiejoy - don't know much about frosting hair, but to get my reddish blonde color (my original natural color), I mix a couple of colors together to tone down the red a bit. I reckon nobody my age has natural bright red hair. LOL (I'll put a pic below so you can see the color - probably a few weeks after doing it).

Sorry to hear about your sister's problems. Certainly will keep her in my prayers and keep us posted on her progress.

Will send this now. Probably won't get back till tomorrow with the rehearsal this evening. Hope you all have a good day.

Ann

Hello GOBS and a happy Sunday to all of you.

Maria, I looked at all the cute pictures of Samson moving his bed around as it suits him. He is so pretty and seems to have a very pleasant personality.

Wow! that dinner sounds wonderful! I looked at the webpage, the closest one to us is in Denver and that's way too far to go for dinner.

Sarv, there are bird feeders available what are supposed to be squirrel proof. You could keep them out of the bird feed and still enjoy them.

It's winter there today, we woke up to about an inch of snow. I had planned to take two of my horses to a friend's place where a traveling equine dentist would work on them. Yes, there is such a thing. This veterinarian has a customized trailer she works in to do everything and her whole practice is now traveling dentistry in Washington, Idaho and Oregon. She sets up in one place and the horses are brought to her. There is too much snow between here and there for me to take my horses so it will have to wait until spring. Tomorrow she will be in another place. More snow is forecast tonight.

Yesterday my greenhouse fish got a clean tank which is larger than the one they have been living in since last fall. I started with a dozen 10cent goldfish from Walmart about a year and a half ago and have 9 left. They are living in an old stock tank. I use the water to water my plants and also the whole thing is helpful in regulating the temperature in the greenhouse. I need some kind of cold water fish that will eat algae, will have to ask at the fish store since the only ones I know about are tropical, might have to go with snails instead. I had thought about putting a stock tank heater in the tank but they are on a thermostat and only set to keep water from freezing which is not a problem in a heated greenhouse. The heat in the gh is set at 55, that's as low as it will go. During the winter the fish don't seem to be very hungry, probably because of the low water temperature but they grew a lot this past summer.

I have lettuce, radishes and Chinese greens planted in a community bed in the gh, they are slow to come up but one of these days I will see little green sprouts. Radishes will be up before the lettuce. The Christmas and Thanksgiving type cactus are blooming but do not look as pretty as they did last year because they got sunburned and the leaves turned red.

It's quit snowing now so I will go put my garden hoses away. They got coiled up and brought up near the garden shed but never got put inside. The next snow might completely bury them. I've lost a few things in the snow which just had to stay there until spring. That's what I get for putting things off too long.

Have a good day everybody.

Hi all
Back from church and through in the kitchen. I let WM do the cooking today. :-). Stopped by on the way home and picked up a rotisary chicken and bag of salad. Had a piece of whole wheat toast along with it and called it lunch.
Looks like everyone is having a good day so far. I wore my new dress today and was pleased that I had waited and didn't spend that$$ on it the other day.
Am fixing chick marsala for supper tonight. The shrooms were pretty at WM today which is unusual as they haven't been very pretty lately. Now that supper you had last night sure sounds wonderful, Marcia. I've never been to anything like that before!
Janiejoy, I am sorry to hear about your sister. Will add her to my prayer list. That must be tough watching your sister go through that.
woodspirit1, we too are having a very dry season this fall. I don't think we've had a drop of rain since the second week in October. We really need some desperately. It's also unseasonably warm. I'm thinking we'll still be running the air conditioning for Thanksgiving. Of course, we have been known to do that for Christmas, too. :)
Well, I know I haven't said hi to everyone but just know you're all thought about. I've read every single word and enjoyed every tale. I always get a good chuckle and a smile to hear what each of you have been up to. Y'all have a great rest of the day!

Ann~I am partially tone deaf and all of that music stuff just amazes me. I can hear alot of changes in music but not at the level that you are talking about and it is so hard for me to imagine what that sound is like. Ibet it is beautiful. I like to listen to music but can't really feel it like a musician can. My daughter gets so lost in her playing that she doesn't hear or see anything. I envy her for that .
I luckily have been blessed with my mothers love of sewing and can make most items myself, which at times is more of a problem then not. I made most of DD's clothes until she turned 12 and it wasn't cool. I still make all her formals. I refuse to sew denim with my machine so the boys luck out there but They still come running when they want a new holloween costume or a something for a school project. When shopping for me, I know how much the material is per yard and how much is envolved in the assembly of it, so when I figure 50.00 and they have a 250.00 price tag I end up walking away irritated for the day.
Nice picture...
Janie~I have given up on the color of my hair. I just go to my hairdresser and say "fix it please". OH be careful with mixing those colors together. I was in getting my hair done and a woman walked in with Purple hair. And I don't mean highlights either. It was a solid deep purple. The whole shop just stared at her head. She had used a mixture of two colors and somewhere a chemical reaction occured and zap!!!! They had to strip her hair and redye it. What a mess. My hairdresser said what was left of her hair was like wire afterwards.

Lake Toxaway, NC(Zone 7a)

Casey, Lake Toxaway is southwest of Asheville, about 3 hours from Charlotte. You will have to join the GA RU once you're up here. I drive down there and I'm sure it's no further for you. They have a wonderful time down there.
I usually stay at a motel, but other stay at the KOA campground. Lots of fun, food and plant trading.
As for music, well when I was a small child and lived in NYC part of the time, I was exposed to classical music and enjoyed it then. But I really got into rock & roll from about 1955, when Billboard started posting the top hits. We had moved to Savannah and Elvis came to town. He stayed at the hotel my dad managed (and we lived in). The hotel had just put in a new plate glass front. The crowd pushed so hard against it that it broke and caved in. Well, Elvis was moved to another hotel. I was heartbroken.
I stayed with rock most of my life but never could get into rap. Now I have reverted to my roots and am playing a lot of classical. I even look for especially soothing pieces in the mornings, like Clare di Lune, which is always playing when I'm on Dave's Garden. I still listen to oldies on the car radio though, lol.

Millbury, MA(Zone 5a)

Hi folks,

I'm actually feeling somewhat human again since I was able to actually get a decent night's sleep last night. All three of us here are much improved since yesterday! DH and I went to a little family tree farm today and chose our Christmas tree. I meant to go there much earlier (like September) but had forgotten all about it. We were lucky to find much of anything left. They've had banner years for the last two and the majority of the trees are tiny at the moment. Since I'm in business myself, it is absolutely amazing to me that these people don't advertise AT ALL! They're not even in the phone book. If you don't happen to hear about it from someone, you'd never even know they existed. Most people around here seem to pick up their trees just before or just after Thanksgiving, but I grew up with a tree that was brought by "Santa" so we don't usually put ours up until Xmas eve. Today was a gorgeous day for it anyway-- real Indian Summer.

Someone (sorry, sorry, I really should remember who, but memory is not my long suit these days!) asked how long my mother's blood pressure problem has been going on. She had a mild heart attack five years ago and had stents put in. This episode just past is the second time since then that she's ended up in the emergency room thinking that she might be having a heart attack again. Both were false alarms, thank heavens, but I think that its a combination of "holiday stress"( it seems to happen at this time of year) and her habit of taking her blood pressure far too often and reading too many articles on high blood pressure, stroke, etc. She is on medication, but just worries herself to the point where she drives her blood pressure up herself. She announced today that she's only going to take it once a week on Sundays. She'll probably have forgotten all about that by Tuesday. We'll see.

DH and I managed to get a bit of yard work done today. He attacked the fallen leaves again and I finally dug up some of the narcissi from the front garden patch. I've been saying for the past couple of years that I ought to dig some up and divide them so that the row extends the whole length of the bed. I dug up ONE clump and had enough to not only extend the row, but had to put some in the bed on the other side of the house. Hopefully they'll come up next Spring. I still have to pull up all the vines in the veggie garden, take out all the tomato cages, and get the whole thing (except for the area with the kale and the spot with the sage) tilled under. It would be nice if we got this done before the snow starts flying! DH often helps me with this these days since the vibration of the tiller plays havoc with the carpal tunnel in both of my hands.

Hmmm, Anne, stuck in the car for hours and shopping. I'm not sure which one I hate worse! (Actually I like Xmas shopping for other people--- as long as I can come up with an appropriate idea -- and shopping for my business, but when it comes to shopping for myself--- yuck!)

Never could get into classical music. It still makes me itch. I'd rather listen to Rap, though that's not really my favorite either! Folk and rock (60's through modern) is my area. DH is a bit more eclectic. He likes what I like plus a lot more (except for the rap!).

Mary, a squirrel-proof bird feeder? Dream on! They keep advertising them, but I'd bet on the squirrels any time. The odds are much better. One of my brothers came home one night ("feeling no pain" as they say) and spotted a squirrel in his "squirrel-proof" feeder. He went over, grabbed the poor thing by the tail, whirled it over his head a few times and let it go. I wonder if it's been back since. Sarv, a neighbor who imports squirrels? LOL! I've heard of people who try to export them, but never the opposite.

DH has heard of a new Braziian restaurant in our area, but the only one we've been to was a tiny one in the next town. Sorry, to me it sounds like cardiac arrest! I do like the taste of meat (much to my chagrin, since I know that if I had to kill them myself I'd be a vegetarian), but enough's enough! I wouldn't be surprised if we ended up going to one sometime in the near future though. To date, my favorite restaurant is Napi's in Provincetown (Cape Cod)--- pricey, but nice, and filled with artwork, "fairy lights" (the little Xmas tree lights --- all white) and stained glass.

Hi Maria, I took a look at your thread in the pets forum too. I'm really glad that you and Samson found each other. You do "sound" much happier these days.

I'm trying to remember what else has been discussed in this thread lately. Oh yeah, purple hair! I've never used hair coloring and also have no use for hair spray, mousse , etc. My mother did dye her hair for awhile. I still can see in my "mind's eye" the time that she tried to dye her hair "auburn" and the dye reacted with the well water here (loaded with iron) to produce bright orange hair. She wore a scarf a lot for some time. She decided years ago to just let it go gray. It looks much better to me. My oldest brother (3 years younger than me) lives with a woman who is my mother's age or maybe slightly older. She dyes her hair a reddish color and it looks pretty strange on her. One of my other brothers started calling her "Tootsie" behind her back because she really does look almost 100% like Dustin Hoffman in the movie of the same name.

That was probably too much information, right? Guess I'd better say goodnight before I get into any more trouble.

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

You made me laugh, McCool, talking about dying ones crowning glory, never did mine either, guess some do not like their natural colored hair .
Did some one tell us what makes impressions from a piece of furniture on a carpet disappear? Please tell me again since I moved some and it shows where it was.

I know if you lay an ice cube on the spot and then once it is melted rub your nails in the threads to get them to stand up. If you have a steamer you can use that also..

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Well, finally home, and have watched my show Desperate Housewives. Got DGD delivered safe and sound, went to the bread store, and to Office Depot then home, rested about 15 minutes and to church. Seems like everybody had a productive/restful Sunday.

Carat, I laughed about the leverage over the garage. Do all women do this? I pretend to "give in" to DH's ideas, then when I need/want something, I remind him.

ViolaAnn, your music is way over my head. I do know what I like and don't like, on the don't like list is definately RAP. What crap. I can do almost any other type. DH is a jazz affectionado, and I lean more into gospel and country. BTW, cool hair. DS's girlfriend commented the other day about my hair. She said I really like it. I hadn't done anything to it, but realised that she was referring to highlights growing out, and the gray beginning to show!!.

Mary E, don't say the s word here. It will be here all too soon for me. DH commented today on the way to church that it was supposed to "get down" to 60 today. I laughed, because 60 in November in Kentucky is still very acceptable!!

Woodspirit, did you actually get to see Elvis? How cool that would have been.

McCool, I chuckled about your Tootsie comment. I take it it wasn't said in a kind way... Don't we all do that from time to time?

Well tomorrow, hope to get the 2 flats of pansy's planted. We had rain, about 2/10, just made it nasty, but by tomorrow, should be okay to plant. Other than that, don't have anything penciled in on my calendar, so that means someone will call and fill it up!! Well, I am off to bed, as my sleeping streak is still going. I know one of these days/nights, body will say, Okay already I have caught up, now let's do the nightowl thing again!!

Night all!

Bloomingdale, OH(Zone 6a)

Julie, I hope you are feeling better soon!

Iowa's weather this weekend just could not have been stranger. 60's for temps, pretty windy and thunderstorms off and on, and a total of 9 tornadoes counted so far. I think only 3 of them touched down and did damage, and I think there was 1 fatality. And now they are talking about the possibility of the *s* word by the end of the week. I'm sticking to the "Menopause Theory"!!

I'm a country and classical gal, but give me my rock and roll too. I used to be a headbanger, lol, but now I'll stick to 80's pop rock.

For those rap haters, and I am one! From Confederate Railroad:

I HATE RAP

I hate rap, I hate rap
Couldn't drive me crazier with a map
Talk about a generation gap
I don't turn my cap, I don't grab my lap
I don't do like that 'cause I look like a sap
I hate rap, I hate rap
And it don't go good with beer on tap
I hate the beat, hate the rhythm
But I love that melody they put with 'em

I hate rap, I hate rap
One nerve left and it's about to snap
I'd rather hear a little Chihuahua yap
I don't walk that walk, I don't flap that flap
If I talked that talk my lips would chap
I hate rap, I hate rap
And it don't go good with beer on tap
I hate the beat, hate the rhythm
But I love that melody they put with 'em

(INSTRUMENTAL)

I hate rap, I hate rap
It would rip Van Winkle from a nap
I'd rather be woke up with a slap
Than try to sleep through jive so cheap
They have to bleep a bunch of crap
I hate rap, I hate rap
And it don't go good with beer on tap
I hate the beat, hate the rhythm
But I love that melody they put with 'em

Heh heh heh, one of my favorite songs!

See ya all in the morning.
