Coffee and...For Sat. Nov. 12, 2005
Morning Everyone - slept wonderfully last night- only wokeup 4 times with the power surges, but then drifted off again quickly.
Welcome back Darius - now be sure and tell us all about your visit with your sis. Was she decent to you or a rat? I'm not a wine drinker, but would be glad to share a small sip...
Carat- lost papers - so maybe you don't really exist!! LOL In cleaning out the boys bedroom, I discovered their stash of illegal papers (I assume in order to buy booze) If I hadn't been so mad at them, it would really be funny. I promptly burned everything - now I wish I had some for blackmail!! They'll turn up, but AFTER you have new ones made.
Bal - I've used those no cook noodles for some time. I just add more liquid to the receipe. But I don't have a good taster, so don't depend on my taste!!
Wood, your greenhouse looks super. I thought I was happy with my 6x8 one, but now am dreaming of a 12x12 one. It has been cold here, but sunny and I put some geraniums in there and they are loving it.
Hap - where the dickens have you been?
Meeez- caller ID is the best thing since they invented vanilla ice cream. When I see who it is I often don't answer. We have it on all our phones except the one in the barn - and that is annoying. I always have to run (not a pretty sight) to answer it -and it is always someone I don't want to talk to....need to replace it asap.
Well, gals, I got my pizza last night- but what a story. I called the pizza joint with their brochure in front of me. Ordered the buy one, get the 2nd half price. DH went to pick it up and it was way more than I told him - pizza joint said they do the 'buy one/2nd !/2 off) only on Thurs. On their sign outside it said - free breadsticks with pizza order. I started to drive out the drive and said- did they give you breadsticks? NO. so back in DH went. We ordered two pizzas, but they only gave us one order of breadsticks. Got home and got the brochure out again and there is narry a mention of 'only on Thurs' - now I am really ticked!! I'd love to go back in and tell them I'd like my $$ back. (the breadsticks were dry sticks- glad we didn't get the 2nd bunch like we deserved) I get really ticked by things like this!!! Note to self: always ask the $$ before hanging up the phone!
Supposed to be nice here in Mich today - DH and I are going to go out and cut a load of wood. I must go with him as I worry too much if he is alone. I will help some, but take a good book along and dress warm! (and have munchies in my pockets!)
Cat is scratching at the screen - gotta go let her in!
Well, we hit a bonanza! I went by the Habitat for Humanity Thrift shop to look for windows and they had a huge amount out back. I was very excited so Wednesday I took my spousal unit and he was amazed. His eyes literally bugged out. Now he won't have to make all those frames!
Not only that, but the manager cut the price in half. We got one huge window, 4'X7', 2 smaller ones that will open for ventilation and match the big one. Then one large one where the left wall (in this pic) will slant up to the roof, a large crank-out by the entrance and at least one more. Of course, when we paint the frames, they will all look matched. Here is pic of the big window in place. It cost $5. I spent a total of $20.
Edited to say not to worry; the sizes will match when he's done. I hope darius sees this; she will get a big kick out of building methods, but if it works, who cares if it is not conventional construction?
This message was edited Nov 12, 2005 8:11 AM
Wow, spirit - that *is* a bonanza!!! It won't matter in the long how well they match, it will be beautiful! Its sure looking good so far.
Well, once again posted in yesterdays thread which actually was early this mornng
Hi everyone here, WS,.lucky you to get those perfect windows for your green house.t going to loog just great
Glad you slept well though you woke up a few times, Sarv.. and don't get chilled or you get more sick
Wow!! Woodspirit! That looks fabulous! A little tile on the floor, a small carpet, a chair to read in........oh no it's not a sunroom, it's a greenhouse..but my mind wanders.............It must have been the mental picture of Gayle explaining to the security team what a breast pump is......!!
Welcome home Darius, hope you enjoyed your night's sleep in your own bed. I seldom drink (25 yrs of living with an alky quenched my thirst) but of all the wines, reislings are my favorite. I find most any of the white german wines very pleasing and we have occasionally overserved ourselves with peisporter (not sure if I spelled that right.)
Magoobu, whatever you said simply may have been interpreted wrongly or maybe you just hit someone's hot button, I'm sure it will blow over soon. Some folks just seem to look for a slight or an insult when none is intended. Don't worry about it, we love you.
ViolaAnne, I wish you luck catching that mouse! They can squeeze through a crack a quarter inch wide, and in an old building there are plenty of those. I haven't seen another since our first victim, but I put two old sticky traps in the upper garage. Yesterday I noticed that DH has an air hose sticking out from under the lower garage door, which leaves a half inch crack 9 feet across the floor. More traps coming soon. And we heat that garage!! Gimme that 2X4, someone needs my attention.
Sun's up and it looks like a good day to play outside. And why do we say the sun is up? Because it would sound silly to say, Oh, look the earth has rotated on it's axle and we are now in position to see the sun? LOL
Sarv, you have caller ID and you still answer? Let it ring! No call is that urgent, and if it is, you'll know soon enough. If our phone rings after 10 pm we don't pick up....did anyone ever get good news after 10 pm?
Think I'll prune back that frosted geranium on the deck and bring it in. It's a pain to water the stuff all winter as I have to go to an outside tap for unconditioned water and sometimes it's cold and blowing out there in January. I brought in a rosemary, and an oxalis which seem to be ok so far. I'm thinking I'll cut the rosemary back too, and let it get some new growth. Wish I had a greenhouse.
See y'all later, have a good day if the weather is kind, and a lazy day if you are stuck inside.
Sheila
M5- I leave my oxalis in the ground (well this is the first year) Yikes, will it die??? I would like to ring a bed with them as mine bloomed all summer. But if it dies, then that won't work!!
Gosh, how do you gals find all those bargains. I go to our Sal army place and they NEVER have anything like that - just clothes, some houseware stuff and furniture. Never any bikes (which I was looking for)or exercise equipment. Where does that stuff go?? Never any toys either. I have seen loads of people bring in toys. I thought maybe the workers had first dibs and took everything!
LOL- Maria - I saw your post on Fri about being the first up on Sat -- I beat ya tho!!
I had two pieces of pizza and a peanut butter cup for breakfast. Fell off the wagon again! Been busy watching all the birds at the feeders. Saying accumulating snow next week. yuck...
M5- our caller ID isn't in the barn and that's near my flower beds. That's the phone I answer during the day when I am outside. I hate to miss a call!!!
Still haven't gotten dressed and it is 9:30....garden program comes on the radio at 10, so I may not get dressed for a while yet!!
Have been up for ages. Deer hunting season started today, and was awakened by gun shots all around. Seems like the hunters just invade. It is not safe to go out of your yard. Sometimes not in your own yard. Be glad when this ends. I think it is a 10 day seasoon, so it will be with us awhile. DGD requested sausage, gravy and biscuits for breakfast, so that it was. The sausage the friend brought is very good. Going to go to 2 craft shows today, so will be gone for a good portion of the day. Hope I have some neat purchases to share later this evening.
Well, out of here, weather is nice, supposed to be in the 70's today.
Later.
sarv48 - is your Oxalis the one that is commonly used as a house plant? If so, yes, it will die if left outside. I also like to plant mine in the garden but never dig it all up. I have found that I can store the little tubers successfully with my other tubers. And last winter, I just brought in two pots which I had planted and stored them both in my cold storage. This year though, they need to be divided.
Some of my friends at the Food Cupboard (GEFC) are always finding bargains at the Sal. Army store or consignment shops. but they spend a lot of time visiting those places. In the end you have to decide which is more important - the time spent or the money saved.
M5 - I think I'll drop by the Food Cupboard and if we haven't caught the mouse, I'll drop by Canadian Tire for some more sticky traps. I think we are on our last one (and it's several years old). Besides, who knows. There MIGHT be more than one mouse.
Nice weather here to today. Will try to get remaining leaves (except for my oak tree which still has at least half of its leaves) raked up. Need to wash cars and give them a pre-winter coat of wax.
Have a good day everyone.
Ann

Been lurking though.....
Everyone have a great day!

Sarv, I bought the Oxalis for under a dollar, when I got the two Jap. maples. Left it outside for good weather and brought it in at first frost. Have NO idea of how to handle it, doubt it's winter hardy here, and it's small so, I'm just going to keep it in through winter since I dont have a GREENHOUSE like some lucky people....(oops, just a little envy seeping in there) and put it back out in spring. I don't even know what variety it is!
Now where did that hour and a half go since I sat down here!! Gotta get showered and dressed, outdoors is calling me!
Good Morning! Slept a fitful bit, not enough, and then the phone rang early. My small truck sure takes the starch out of me between road vibration and big trucks blowing me all over the road and it will take a couple of days for me to recover.
Woodspirit, give that man a hug for me! He's doing a great job. Molly and I have talked about scrounging windows and building materials for her winter project of a garage with workshop on one end, a music room above the workshop and tacking a greenhouse on the end. When it's not "living space" there are many creative ideas we can use!
During my 13 hours of driving yesterday without even a radio, I had lots of time to think, and plan. Now I am going to try to see if I can get my ct scan and doctor's appointments moved up to before Dec. 15 and try to move by then when my rent is up rather than staying until Jan. 15.
I shall look into renting a U-Haul (or some kind) of truck that can tow my truck and just make one trip to Florida with everything I will need over the winter before I make the decision of how to move the remaining plants (perennials) and personal stuff.
The time with my sister actually was productive. I managed to get into a talk with the kid in front of my sis, insisting my sis NOT interrupt, and some necessary things got aired about their constant conflict and some ideas of resolution. Then the day before I left, the kid actually chose to spend about an hour talking with me after she came home from school and before her mother got home.
Both talks made me realize the conflicts between my sister and me are often a spill-over of their battles.
Anne/magoobu - I read that thread before it was erased - you did not say anything out of line. Now, its over; erase it from your mind and continue to be your warm, loving self.
sarv - that's why I *hate* ordering pizza over the phone! I live too far out of town for delivery, so if I want pizza I have to go get it anyway, so I just go then order face to face. It makes for a lot less confusion (at least on my part) and I'm some what more likely to get what I want for the price quoted on their signs.
violaAnne - I'll loan you my cat to get that mouse under control. I say loan because I'm quite sure that after a few days of her maniacal behavoir, you will be more than ready to return her to me. She is an avid hunter and all too sucessful. My problem is that instead of keeping the house free of stray wildlife that wanders in on its own, she goes out, catches something and brings it in to play with!
meezer - you're right - "sun's up" is a lot easier to say! lol
darius - I know you are perfectly capable of knowing when to stop when you need to, but I still worry about you. Please be careful when you push the driving. I am all too familiar with ballgame fans filling up every room for miles around. I live outside a University town, and always check the game schedule before setting up any kind of gathering that requires a motel room for any visitors. I also make *sure* I have everything I need from town before game days. I hate trying to deal with the traffic of five thousand people who don't know where they are going or how to get there!
hap - been missing ya, glad you're back - now say something!
I know there is more I wanted to comment on, but its all on the earlier thread, and I know if I back track that far I'll lose all of this, so I'll send this much off, and try to check back to see what I missed and make "witty" remarks later.
Its a beautiful day, and I am free to do what I please for awhile. I shall go out and see what kind of mischief I can get into. Have a good day all of you.
ginni
I think Hap was going over to Molly's today for their South Florida Roundup. It was supposed to be held in a park but all the parks are closed due to hurricane damage, so Molly is hosting. The debris clearing priority is getting the streets done first. I saw an amazing amount of damage, very few large trees left.
Morning all
I'm not even going to try to name everyone. There's just no way for me to keep up, so I'll just say hello and I've read each and every word. I too am a wee bit jealous of the green house. Brought in a few of my plants as it is getting a bit cooler at night. I have a shelf unit at the end of the kitchen to put them on, and when I got up this morning ... I had over wartered the plants, so had a mess to clean up. Uggg. The DH is painting again today, so we'll save errands for later.
Maria, give Samson a big pat for me.
sarv, I want to come have breakfast with you! :)
Our meeting at church was great last night. It was entitled "The Perseucuted Church". There were missionaries from Sudan and Indonesia. It really makes you stop and think when you hear what these people go through in other countries in order to be Christians.
Okay, got to get up from here. Haven't dressed either.
... Elaine
Did I tell you one of my very best friend here in Rehoboth became a member not a subscriber, tried to convince her for a long time, she is 'dmagnus' her name is Debbie who has one of the most beautiful gardens in Town, if not the best.
I told her already, she is away right now but I think she will, here gardens ar all over the place you'd love to see them
Hey, did ya hear? Happenstance has a brand new flower, named Josephine, to show off.
Popping in quickly
M5 Thank you!!!
Tgif Thanks and that is sweet of you to say.
Yes I do not think I said anything to heat it up but the end result of that and maybe other parts I am not privy too has ended now.
Sarv thanks as well let me know what you may hear.
Have a great day everyone-- will be (as usual) Popping in and out!!!
Anne
Good Morning everyone! It's already starting to cloud up on this side of Wisconsin. Supposed to have the possibility of some rain...but I think it's just here in the SW corner. Frankly, I'll be glad to see that snow start next week. It will settle me down and give me a quiet sense of peace of mind.
I spent the day yesterday cleaning seeds and getting them organized for next spring. Let's see...nope! Didn't do one darn thing that I could claim was constructive! :-)
I've not been readin the daily's but have skimmed through a little. I'm beginning to understand why some of you guys are asking how I manage to "keep up" with several threads and several forums. hehehe I *don't*!!
Right now, I'm setting up my Picasa/Hello software so I can chat with some family and friends. Now THAT is one cool set of programs! Much easier to use than the MSN and Yahoo IMs...and the pictures actually GET where they're going...FAST!
Well...have lots of threads on my watched list that I need to tend to. There's BBQ pork in the crockpot for tomorrow. (Tonight will be fresh perch fillets, hash brown potatoes and cole slaw...can't wait!)
Later!
~julie~
Darius...looks like they travelled pretty well. I can't even imagine LOADING all that stuff...much less doing it a couple more times. (Feel free to drop in for supper...:-))
Hey! Did everyone but me know that in the subscribers "Extra" area we have a Member Photo Album? It was so cool to go through and see many of the people who visit our thread regularly...some are really sneaky...they have pics of their gardens instead. hehehe
~julie~
Julie, I have been through the Member photos a few times. Now I just go to a member's page if I'm curious to see if they have a photo posted. I meant to take a photo of Susan (IO1) to post... she's so cute!... but never got my camera out of the bag.
Awww...I was hoing you'd remember to get shots of Elaine *and* Molly! There'll be time for that later tho, I'd suppose.
I guess I'm not observant about what's really hidden on the DG. AH! Buried treasures! (Funny thing is, I got you and Blooms mixed up in my mind. HAHAHA)
~julie~
Hi eeryone. It's too late to say good morning, so I'll just say good day.
DH and I went to dinner with friends last night. Had a great time. Didn't get home until 11:30. slept late this morning. Went out for breakfast this morning then came home and made an apple crisp. Come on over if ya want some. Now I need to do a little cleaning.
Tonight I am taking DH to see Willie Nelson for our aniversary. He is taking me to dinner before the show. Our aniversary isn't until the 29th.
Probably won't get back here until tomorrow. I did read all the posts, but too much to comment on. Hope you all have a great weekend!
Hello, and happy Saturday to everyone. Gee, I'll have to check out the pictures. I haven't posted one of me since I am seldom in a picture, usually taking it.
Darius, I'm glad you are home safely. Those long trips can sure wear you out and you weren't 100% when you started. That's quite a load of plants and they do look like they made the trip without much stress. It sounds like your visit to your sister's place was productive, getting to talk with the kid was a real plus, especially if it helps you understand the situation and why your sis is the way she is. Do you think the kid is getting smarter about life and the way things work with relationships? I'm surprised she is still there, since I seem to recall that you expected her to go off and do her own thing soon after you were there the last time. You and Molly will have fun putting things together and probably with far less stress that living with your sister.
Welcome back Hap and BetsyBug, Ive been wondering where you were. Don't stay gone so long.
I'm about to bundle up and get some outside work done. The temp was 28 this morning, now up to 48 but windy. Sunny too and only partly cloudy, so the forecast rain/snow may not happen until overnight.
Have a great day everyone.
Ohhhh...SuzieQ...WIllie Nelson! That's going to be a FUN evening! (Have something GOOD for dinner!)
Hi Mary! And Ginni and Elaine and Magoobu and, and and and...I decided to quite scrolling~! LOL
~julie~
Ohhh, Ive always wanted to see Willie (and Elton John and Cher) I've only gone to one 'show' in my life - and right now the name slips my mind!! Happy Anniversary early tho!!
DH and I went out to the woods to cut wood - never again. Me and my bum arm - I wasn't much help and all the racket that saw makes - no wonder DH can't hear!! He wanted to go back for one more, but I nixed that!! Told him to just order a load of wood - that was way too much work for me. I about broke my neck tripping on stuff. (he's snoozing in the chair now...)
Mary, it's 61 deg here, but they keep saying accumulating snow by next week.
I hate having my pic taken, so you all just get to imagine what I look like. Besides which I can't get a pic on here with my beginning computer skills.
I want to mosey into Hobby Lobby - just for something to do...
Save me a bowl of apple crisp (I finished off the pizza already...)
sarv, I'm with you ... hate having my picture taken so Darius would have had a hard time doing that.
Darius, got my cuttings planted and keep going out there to check on them. I've been sweet talking them. The baby isn't quite sure about that as she's wondering why I'm talking to them and not her. :)
It's beautiful weather here. The temp is 76, and the wind is gently blowing. Wish it wouldn't do that, though, as we have leaves all over the place.
suzieq2761, that apple crisp really sounds great. That's a long way to go for a piece, though. ;) Guess I'd be worked the calories off anyway. Hope y'all have fun tonight and happy anniversary early.
Julie, you're always just blowing in and back out again! :)
Maria, how are you and Samson doing today?
Hi Betsybug. I'm not sure I've been around when you were posting, so nice to meet you.
I've been wrestling with the laundry monster again today, so guess I'd better get back at it. I really think that DH decides I need something else to do so he just fills the hamper up with clothes. :-(
Maybe it's a man thing. Just can't stand to see the thing empty!
I can't remember everything else I've read, so hello to everyone else and I hope y'all have a wonderful week-end.
... Elaine
Elaine...I do have a habit of doing that, don't I? LOL
~julie~
DH just took off for the woods again - alone. As he was leaving, he said 'thanks for all the help' - I think he meant that as a slam. I just waved to him and smiled!! Now I need to stay home and make sure he returns. I give him an hour and a half- then I'm calling in the calvery!!
I've eaten just about everything in sight today and feel like a huge pumpkin. No wonder my clothes aren't fitting!!
IO1 - your DH knows where the laundry hamper is?!! Wow, that's good! I find clothes all over the place, mostly on the floor, and have no clue as to whether I should wash them or not.
Actually, truth be told, he does all of his own laundry (and sometimes even some of mine!) But between the two of us, the dryer always has a load in it.
Take care, and don't let the monster get you.
But between the two of us, the dryer always has a load in it.
What do you mean "between the *two* of us"? There's *always* a load in my dryer, too! And it might stay there for two weeks...until I remember I needed clothes. LOL (In fact...that reminds me....)
~julie~
Dh and I each had a period of time of living alone before we got together - no need to empty the dryer, just take out whatever was needed to get dressed on any given day. Now, we just sort of leave the last load in the dryer to be put away by the next one that does a load of clothes and needs the dryer. (I'm ashamed to say he puts away more clean clothes than I do)
ps - he also cooks about as much as I do! What I'm saying here is - I got Heaven on Earth!
OOPS, that was 38 degrees, not 48. I got all bundled up and was almost too warm working in the sun when it started to snow! I looked at the thermometer again and saw that I was 10 degrees off. That's what I get for reading it without my glasses.
Husbands that cook or do laundry is something that always surprises me.
Gotta get back out there and use the tractor before hubby needs it.
Well, I've got a good DH. I'm not complaining at all, but he throws his clothes around. He just keeps them in his office and I don't pick them up. :) He puts his white clothes and uniforms in the wash. His bum clothes go everywhere in there. Then ... when he thinks about it, or the room gets too messy, he must throw them all in at once. He says "no" but you can't prove it by me. He will also cook from time to time, but mostly grills. He does help out in the kitchen, though. He always clears the table and never leaves until the food is put up. In fact, he'll do just about anything as long as I'm not too lazy and do my part around the house. It might not be in "my time frame", but he'll usually do it. Yes, I definitely think I've got a jewel. :)
Something...................see, I said, "Something" as requested...lol
Yes, Darius is right, I have been at Molly's for the RU and we had a great time. I sure Art will post pictures. Darius is also right about the trees.....gone........
I was on my cruise during the storm and spent 8 of the 10 days worring about my home and my baby Archie who was at the kennel. Both were fine....The screening around the pool and my garden............well......that's another story. The orchids, about 70, half landed in my pool and sat there for a week. May I tell you that orchids do not do well in chlorine for a week.....they are almost all black now....I don't think any will survive. I have cut the garden WAY back and I see some growth on a few things....others were just pulled out. I just cried.....
We had power by the time we got back which meant A/C....but no phone or net until last night. Hence, no me here.....good to feel as though I was missed.
The biggest tragety is my husband...he built this home about 25 years ago and did some of the work himself. To see even any part of it destroyed has put him in a terrible place. I cleaned the entire yard and gardens ALONE....he did nothing but watch a little TV and sleep. He hardly even is talking. I feel very sorry for him....This storm really took a toll on him.
I have missed you all so much and glad to see all is "Normal"....well as normal as this bunch is.....lol
Maria, I am so glad that you spell like myself. I have always spelled the red veggie/fruit,,,,,,tomatoe....and then there is a potatoe....When did we drop the "E" at the end?
Bal. .....I have made lasagna with the regular noodles, uncooked for years....put a little more liquid in my sauce and pop into the oven. I laughed when I saw the "Unboil noodles"..........heck, they all are....plus the old noodles are cheaper....
I must confess, I did not read the 10 issues of Coffee that I missed. If I did, I would never have gotten to write this.
Oh, Maria, I take it you have a dog? So that I don't have to go back and look for it would you mind posting another pic? thanx
Chat later and God Bless you all.
Hap
Part of the yard attached.
Oh Happy, I'm so sorry you lost so many plants. That is a heart breaker. Can't blame your DH for being depressed. I'm sure he'll want to tackle repairs soon but he needs time to get it together.
I didn't get much of my to-do list done today but DH brought in a lot of the clay planters and ornamental stuff, and whizzed around on the lawn tractor and scooped up leaves. I hope he threw them on the garden beds, but it's dark now and I just got home so I can't tell. Hate to waste them.
It's hard enough to keep up with the dailys let alone catch up on ten days worth. Check Pets for a thread Maria started on her new friend, she has put some cute pictures there. He's a fast learner.
Went over to DIL to see how Howard was received by the cats. LOL He loves cats, doesn't chase them and is very gentle but they are very wary, and arch their backs when he gets near. Max isn't speaking to me at all, flew down to the basement and wouldn't come up for me. Maybe he thought I would stick him in the carrier and dump him in some other new place just when he was getting used to that one.
Better start dinner. Yawn. Boring old meat loaf and mashed potatoes with an e, tomatos (plural) has no e, but I don't remember why. The reason has fallen into some dark crevice in my brain, and I can't fish it out. We learned all that important stuff in grade school, including diagraming sentences, which I liked doing, for some peculiar reason. I liked Geometry too, although I hated math. None of it has been particularly useful!!
Don't mind at all, Hap, and I do not think any o fthe others will, so sorry about your home and how upset your DH is which is very understandable, but it could have been a lot worse as so many have found no house left at all.
This is Samson, 11 ms. old and a handful
